Good For Price? - LG Revolution

Is this still a good phone for an average user who only uses it for basic phone features. Sometimes browses internet and checks emails. The reason I ask is because I bought this phone for 27 bucks and am giving it away to a friend. I have the Note 2 so I know my opinion on the speed would be biased. Was it a good buy? Can I root it to get Jellybean and stock android? Thank You for your help.

The Revolution doesn't have ICS or Jellybean, only Gingerbread at this time.
There were attempts to get them on the Revo but they are for the most part dead. This phone is over two years old. Most people have moved on.
27 bucks though isn't bad.

Yeah. 27 shipped. The guy I am giving it to has the droid x. He doesn't even know what rooting is. I was just gonna do it to enhance his experience. Like I said. He will just use it for basic functionality with a few smartphone type things.

How Often Do You Get A New Phone?

I got an iPhone 3G in November of 2009 (On contract) and last September I got my SGS (New off of Craigslist). I keep seeing these new and better phones coming out in the near future and I am saying to myself.
"Self, you want one of those phones".
Examples of said phones:
Galaxy S 2
i997 Infuse 4G
Optimus X2
Optimus Black
Anyway, do you get the newest thing out there or do you stick with one phone for a while?
$500-$700 is a lot to spend on a phone every year, but I love the newest gadget
If it works and does what i want then every ten years or so .
jje
for me, it is every time there is something better for my carrier 1700+2100 AWS, which usually there are not many
I usually hold as much as I can, usually it's 2 to 3 years so I can have the contracts promo's and rebates.
My last one was the good ol' HTC Vogue. Even tough HTC wasn't supporting the device since a while, XDA Devs was and I was running latest android built on it.
Since the popularity of the SGS is pretty more than the HTC Vogue, I assume we'll get amazing support from the comunity also! So I don't think I'll change until another year or two!
I must be sick or something. My SGS works great (Stock JL2, no lag fix, no custom kernel, only rooted). But I still have this little thing about wanting the newest and best.
What will the new Galaxy S2 (Or any listed phone in the OP) have that my SGS doesn't? 4.5" screen, faster CPU (By only a small bit), more MP camera, a flash? Do I really need these things?
Maybe it's a disease or something. Why can't I be happy with what I have? Maybe a woman would help? Anyone know one available?

The phone revolution has finally come to the U.S. so things will have to change...
Before all phones were crappy so it didn't really matter...now every 6 months a phone that was once new will be old news and the new ones will be must haves...
This has been the case in europe for years and so service providers can't force customers into 2 year contracts like here...most contracts are 12 months(and you can upgrade to a new phone practically free in 10mnths) and just to get people into 18 month contracts they have to offer great incentives...hopefully that will become the case here..
But to get to the point..with phones finally getting better you do feel the need to upgrade all the time...don't get carried away...think of it like with a new tv..new ones..bigger ones, faster response time, more color,3d, internet apps, usb ports...they keep adding stuff making you want the latest and the greatest...you don't need it..you want it...but don't need it...
See what your phone has..how you use it and evaluate of it meets your needs...granted now you are using it for a lot more stuff than before...gps, internet searches, facebook updates etc...suit down and think what you use your phone and if it lacks in any department...make a note of all the areas where you would like improvement and then start researching which phone would cover those specified areas..don't get carried away by features that seem cool but once you have them you will not use...(video calling for example..it is a phase..just like it was in europe and it went away fast..not everyone has it here..its not cross platform...ie pc to phone...and it telies on spotty 4g coverage or wifi..). Once you know what you need and find which phone had that...get that phone and stick with it...
I bought the g1 when it came out because I knew I would love android..I was right..after having it for almost two years I found that it was lacking speed due to cpu and lack of memory for installed apps...granted I was using apps2sd to over come its issues but this was a bypass got an issue that was there...i researched and found that the vibrant had exactly what I needed..1ghz cpu and 16gb internal memory for apps and storage...i was right..with nero v5 rom on it and an 8gb card it is amazingly fast and it does EVERYTHING I need...i don't need anything now for a long time...i want the new stuff..i don't need them...now I will wait for a phone that comes with honeycomb and performs well with it...it will be at least 6 to 8 months before I see something worth investigating which will be near my upgrade time so I don't have to spend too much money to get it (i got the vibrant for 99 bucks through amazon wireless with a2yr contact...)
Patience, good research and will power are all key...

"Wish in one hand, **** in the other. See which one gets filled first."
Lol, wish I had every new one that came out
But I renew my phone once every 2 years.
@Ian/w98seng, nope it doesn't change much with a woman around either!
I have a Nokia 6120 Classic right now from 2007 I think , but I LOVE SGS. Hope to get one as soon as possible with a contract. I didn't know about SGS 2, which is nice
Either when something better comes out or when O2 offer me an upgrade
Pretty much only upgrade when my existing contract expires and I get a discount on a new phone
OK, I'll be patient and wait a couple of yeas before I get another phone. It'll be hard and I'll cry a lot, but I'll be a good boy and wait. (Maybe)
you know you can SELL the phone, and upgrade to another phone....
that's what most people do to keep up with the latest and greatest
sell it meanwhile it stills hot (6 month to a year)
then upgrade to the next phone will not be as painful
it's like leasing a phone
you pay a $100 give or take every 6 mth to get a better phone
My job allows me to change the phone every year and I think its an ideal duration to play around, fiddle and poke around in a phone, especially when my company pays for it But exceptionally, Galaxy S keeps surprising me every now and then keeps me busy. Its like a woman, once you conquer it you will get over with it and get bored of it BUT not yet!! Unlike iPhone 3GS where I was looking to move on after 4-5 months.

Wait until your plan allows you to upgrade at low cost (usually after 18mnths on t-mobile) and go for a phone that had honeycomb and decent hardware to run it...I'm thinking 6-8 months from now there will be enough info on the models that are out to make an educated purchase..

The current rumor on the sgs2 is 1.2 ghz cpu, 8mp camera with lcd flash, capacitive touch screen,2.3 gb on it, fm radio with rds, hdmi output, 16gb memory,ffc....
if you have have the current vibrant I suggest trying nero v5 with voodoo lag fix.. ka5 with proper flash support...it will completely changer your phone experience...trust me...make a nandroid so you can give it a try and if you don't like it...restore...it feels like a new phone...search for sbg.v2.4 from jdan as well and that will make it even better...

[Q] The time after 4.2

Hey there,
I'm thinking about my last weeks with my O2x, my Nexus4 is already ordered.
But what will be after CM10/4.2, is there anybody who will use this phone after 4.2
Is there anybody who will create Android 5.0 for this (stupid) phone?
What do you think?
I suppose that me and many other people will use it till it works. If it will work next 30 years, i will probably use O2x for next 30 years.
Yop, I think I will buy next phone in 2014. O2X works, still 2 cores are enough.
N4 looks good, but not for 500€.
yes of course i also use my phone for 30 years if needed, i'll only a buy new android if i seen a smartphone that will satisfy my needs

In germany the Nexus 4 is cheap, so I will buy it from the market for 349€. :silly::silly:
I am so glad if have my new phone, the LGOS is a mess...
for me,its time to try new OS.i am w8ing lumia 920 to be available in mine country.I'am tired of lags, slowness, flashing roms... and all about Android seems to be. There is lags 2 in top models like S3 with pr.butter so... android still need a lots of improvement in terms of smoothness,bugs....

I will use it of course, hoping it will became better every day with new roms! (as it is happening)
havent you learned....
history repeats itself..... there will always be software faster than hardware.......
unless you want to buy a new piece of hardware every 2 months.
Ordered my N4 for 350€ in germany, but I still love my 02x and I will give this phone to my mom because its good... For a normal user like my mom this phone is great with ics.

I am on the same opinion
10 years average, as long as it dont get wrecked or broken. i'll have it for a long time. new phone will come when i need it, not when i want it =P
4.0.4 is good enough for me.
I guess I'll keep using the O2X until it doesn't work anymore.

My thoughts exactly.
As for the OP's question re: Android 5, might as well think about v.10 or whatever, it would be as (ir)relevant... I am pretty positive v.4.x will be the last for this phone, but I don't care, as long as it works. Even earlier this year I was still using Treo 680 with PalmOS 5. Great phone; the only thing that sucked on it was the internet access, hence my move to Android...

the two phones before this one, was a O2 Xda (Qtec 2020), and a Nokia 7110 i bought 2 extra batteries for each phone over the years to keep them going, and except for a bit of a clean, they are both in pretty excellent condition. i thought i'd get with the times and buy a decent phone.
and i went for something i thought was build very well, with lots of ways to customize, with many possible configs, soon after getting it, i was on the same wagon as the auto reboots and other problems that LG dug themselves with updates. but i'm happy with my purchase. its been worth the cost. and the outcome after the amazing help from the devs here my phone is F*cking awesome. my younger brother has a S3 and its a very pretty phone, i've done my work on it rooting it and moding it for him. and i do like it. but i see my phone as something that works and does not need replacing any time soon.
I am happy if I get my Nexus 4.
My o2x broke with ICS four times, and I must reinstall all apps.
Really annoying if you need your phone for your job.
I'm really really curious about the Nexus 4, will be my second Christmas if it arrives in January.

I just don't get it...

I have tried to convert 5 people which some had iPhones and rest Samsung and HTC phones. Now in every case I sold their old like 2011 phones and got them a nexus 4 and spending no more than 50 bucks tops to get a nexus 4 8gb. Almost every convert is a failure, most would prefer there old phone back. THIS IS INSANITY!!! now the I sheep I can somewhat understand but the Samsung and HTC just boggled the mind.
Now maybe I'm biased but I hate everything Samsung and HTC does software wise. Its like skinning windows I just don't see the need and why add more code on top and your not even a software company. Most buyers know nothing about android so does it really matter if android was just stock. Maybe work with Google on something's but these ui's just suck in my opinion. All I see it as a forced attempt to be different. Who is forcing this I don't know.
Now I know people don't want to take the time to learn and get used to their ways but something must be wrong ( definitely with those people ) with android. Sometimes I think its too advanced. We talk about isheep but a lot of them know how to use their phones well. Maybe this is why apple keeps iOS the same.
I bought a used nexus 4 for 240 the other day guy told me he couldn't sell it higher I was shocked. This is an unlocked phone and its cheap. People are going into these stores signing two year agreements on already over a year old phones.
Is Google afraid to educate people and push stock android forward. Tell people the truth you can do prepaid and get the same service and stop getting raped every month. All these other hardware makers need Google there really is no other os ( windows phone, yeah right ). Say what you will about apple they get there updates all at the same time and they know when the new iPhone is out. All this different ui stuff just confuses people.

i recently tried to convert my gf's sister from iphone and failed miserably. She really hate the phone coz apparently she was having trouble with group text and the battery couldn't last her a whole day. I sat her down and reconfigure her phone as much as i can in addition to showing her all the cool things androids can do. All i get at the end of the day was: i still like my iphone better i think i am gonna use that instead of this phone.
i cried :crying:
Used Nexus 4 phones around these parts go for a mint; often more than what the Play store sells them for! As far as converts, some folks are just really "hung up" on their current devices; whether it be with the operating system/their own set o apps (iOS), or they are caught up with the high specs/sensationalism of their current devices (S3, HTC One X, etc). Hard to say.

Yeah once upon a time I swore by blackberry until it came time to buy another phone and 4g was out. I said I'm not paying 200 bucks and sign a new agreement for this. Got a Samsung Galaxy 2 then one day rooted. Then ice cream sand which came loved that over crappy touchwiz. Then I learned and waited for Samsung to release new kernel and eventually realized that if I want stock android buy stock android. If I want updates some time in the same year buy a nexus. Gal nex then to 4. There is no better option for me, I wish I had choices but right now its one nexus a year.
So in a lot of ways I am just like an iPhone user.

I don't even try to convert people...I tell people about it but everyone is like "I never heard of it" or "but I want the galaxy s3" or some crap...hell even phone salesmen have never even heard of this phone in these parts...so I just say OK what ever keep your subpar phone or phone that your stuck with for 2 years I have a bad ass phone that that I didn't get suckered into for 2 years and paid the same price for...and it has a better processor with more ram and it gets updated software in a timely manner...though that's not much of a selling point for most people I know since they all ignore the updates any damn way.

If a phone is doing what a person needs it to then what reason is there for them to change to a new one?
Normal people will want to stick with what they want if it's working for them (to an extent, advertising will usually motivate then to "upgrade"). If you try and convert then from iPhone to Nexus or even TouchWiz to Nexus, Joe normal won't like having to go thru that learning curve of figuring out a new phone ui again.
It's just how it is. Joe normal just wants to text, make calls, receive emails and watch porn on their phone. They don't give two hoots if another phone opens apps 0.5s faster or not.
Stop trying to convert people. It's great you enjoy your Nexus 4. It doesn't mean everyone else has to.

Ive had enough of the people around here. i think im just going to get the HTC One and live a normal life again
You gotta hand it to Apple that iOS is simple, colorful and intuitive. It's like being locked up in a golden cage and Apple decides what you are going to be fed, but still it's very simple to handle.
Samsung and HTC are trying to accomplish the same, their interface is a more colorful and simple approach to the Android experience. Not everyone likes the stock Android look! There's an enormous difference between the unexerienced and the advanced user!
I say, why bother? Coming from iPhone2g,4,4s,HOX, I love Nexus 4 the most. Android matured, it's on par with iOS and in many aspects bests it. So why bother and try to convert people. Let 'em be & just enjoy yourself. That's the way I see it.
Still the worst encounter I ever had was with an iPhone user. Me and 3 friends were just having a drink, me being the only android users the rest iPhone. So without the intention of bringing any os war up I simply said, arrgh I need a screen protector, (HTC one x back then) getting a crap load of scratches.....
Here is how it continued:
Idiot1: omg get iPhone its the best
Me: I'm happy with android its just scratches
Idiot2: man get iPhone they have best screens ever, they don't scratch, here look no scratch..
Me: *thinking: what an idiot we both have Corning gorilla glass*
Third guy was talking about how epic its features are.
In this whole conversation however, I remained calm and didn't mention anything about either phones. Cause alone the argument they had shows they have not the slightest clue about anything , not even hardware wise. They are loyal to apple and whatever they release is god sent. So there was really nothing I wanted to say. Not that I care what phone they are using, just people with no clue saying things they have no idea about
Edit: idiot2 broke up with his gf just cause she replied to s guy who asked her a question. Lolol

i miss some of the sense widgets but thats all i miss and only cause they polish them up a little better and it doesn't look bare but it's honestly no where near enough for me to consider buying that HTC One " " especially with that whole blink feed crap (personally i hate the tiled view) but point of the post when the N4 first came out I got one for a iSheep and to this day he is way happier with it. people who are cool with going outside of their comfort zone and aren't scared to try new things will see it for what it is while people who don't want change will call out the negatives and run to their old phones again . . . ..
i really don't get why people liked their old androids better than the N4 though that does boggle my mizind
I was pissed because I saw some 65 year old dude at Chick-fil-a using a Nexus 4 and I couldn't have one. Once the supply chain got fixed and I had one of my own on stupid cheap pre-paid I was no longer mad.
I don't care about people using other phones as long as it doesn't prevent me from using mine, that is their prerogative. Ill tell them about my setup though, a bit of an evangelist, and they will still willingly sign up with AT&T to be bent-over on a plan so they can save $100 on a phone. Not my problem though, I dont pay their phone bill either.

Originally I did too but then HD Widgets came along (now I only use the lock screen widget though) and Google added a ton to vanilla in ICS.
Some people it's not about the phone, it's about what the phone says.
They won't buy a Nexus because they have never heard of Nexus and don't know about the image it portrays.
They buy a Samsung because it's not an iPhone, they buy an iPhone because iPhones are what the hipsters have etc etc.
I think it's funny hearing iPhone people talk about features android has had since ICS like it's a brand new thing because it just appeared on iOS.

its ultimately about uniformity. all apple devices have the same layout, feel and functionality. all android devices arebso different that no one knows whats going on. if all android devices were offered as stock there would be no real problems. you can really blame second hand companies for jizzing up the layout and trying to be "innovative." best thing though is that apple is no longer the leader in mobiles. theyre playing catch up to android, because even with all the differences other companies are offering better specs at better prices faster than apple can keep up with, which makes me happy
why convert people to nexus? worry about your own problems

I tried to aware people but my threads are beig closed. N4 is the most failed phone and google hid it nehind a cheap price tag.
But cheap price tag doesnt mean that the device will always help u. In this fast tech age i am using my note for over a year now. Even today i am happy with my phone which has tasted 3 major android flavors.
This is what i call a fururistic hardware and vendors dedication in making it better and better.

Nexus 5 Love thread

Well... I'm going to try and balance the score sheet here, as it seems to me, only the people who are dis-satisfied take to the internet to tell people how they feel, I thought it needs to be shown that there are many more who are happy with their device, and so I'm going to share my experience so far... Ok, so just a mere 2 full days in to ownership.
Firstly, I mentioned in another thread somewhere, that the absolute best thing about buying a new phone is the wait. The anticipation for it to arrive. That feeling of excitement is the best that being an owner of the device is ever going to be... and to me, that remains true. I for one, loved how this device was "announced" the leaks, the rumours... everything. Pure genius from Google.
So, it arrived first thing yesterday morning. My first thoughts were how nice the device felt, solid build quality, a perfect size, and very understated. Just what I was looking for.
As the day went on, I started to worry about battery life. Coming from a Note 2, which with some custom kernel and rom, I could use it all I liked all day and by the time I was going to bed I was at like 30-40% remaining, it was never a doubt for me that this was going to be an issue.... and compared to that, yes, it is an issue.... I'd like it to last all week, who wouldn't? At around 8-9 hours of ownership, I had a feeling that perhaps I should have bought the LG G2... but more on that later. Id be in heaven if that G2 battery would actually fit in there, but alas, it looks as though I'll be rocking 2300mAh for a while.
With my personal battery life reservations aside, the speed, the smoothness, and silkyness of the phone is amazing. If I picked up something with better battery life, I doubt i'd experience the same joy that this thing gives the user. I repair phones etc as a side hobby, so I see a great many of different devices (including the latest from apple) and this is the first time I can say that an android device can match, even the iphone 5s in smoothness, and that is saying a lot.
Hardware wise, I'm not seeing any negatives as I've seen reported by other users here. My screen is vibrant and clear. It beats all my previous devices, and seems to be as vibrant as anything else otherwise touted as "better"
The camera.... well, I'm no photographer. In this department, I guess I'm what you would call the average user. In phones I've actually owned, my favourite camera has been the galaxy S3. Overall image quality aside, the thing that won me on it was the shutter speed. Zero lag. On that thing, I clicked the screen, and that was the picture I got, no messing. Not so fast with the N5, but image quality wise, I can't fault it... It certainly knocks socks off my wife's galaxy nexus, and it is high quality enough to make me feel that I have no need for an actual camera for all my photoing needs. In fact, this video: http://youtu.be/Qp6clWG-b5c seems to mirror my experience with the camera here... not too shabby by my standards. I'm exceptionally pleased with the low light shots without a flash.... just the typical real life situation I find myself in when I want a photo!!
So... as the end of day 2 draws to a close, my battery life woes seem to be fading... stats like those in the attachments really give me hope... and that is still on the standard kernel and rom, although it is now rooted.
At the end of the day, when I made the choice for my next phone, my last two choices were between the N5, and LG G2... I made my N5 decision without viewing anything official through fear of it selling out. I pulled the trigger on this little sucker as soon as it went live in the play store (No way was I selling out to CPW for a 16gb) At the back of my mind, having the nexus device where I could play with all the dev's work won me over, compared to the only benefit I could see in the G2, the battery, and I'm happy to say that all feelings of doubt over whether I should have bought the G2 have gone. I'm happy with my nexus, and I feel that I will be for a long time to come. In fact, id go as far as to say, that despite the "development scene" being a major factor in my purchasing, the user experience is so good at this point, that I don't even want to flash any ROMs yet... I know the time will come for that, and that will provide me with good longevity for the device, but for now, the pure Google experience has it all... and at a bargain price too
With you, love the device.

I'm really loving the device as well. Google did a hell of a job with 4.4. Can't wait for more custom roms!
Unlike so many others, I know how to keep my expectations in check. This phone is amazing for the money, nothing even comes close. In fact, even if it cost the same thing as my Xperia ZL ($600) it's still better.
Finally a thread that praises the Nexus 5
I swear all the threads in the last 2 days have been so depressing-- thank you for this man
ps. am also in love with Nexus 5
I think a lot of the negativity is coming from people that have the ability to buy a new phone four times a year so they're really not happy with anything. These people coming from the Moto X baffle me. I guess if you have the money to spend that's your prerogative, but it skews your perception of value. I'm coming from a One X that I bought on launch day and I'm still not eligible for an upgrade so the Nexus will be a nice bump up.

I also get the feeling that there are a lot more new people who are hear to complain, much more than before. I got mine today and love everything about it. As much as I love my 2012 Nexus 4 & 7, this year's 5 & 7 have been outstanding.

i bet you 100 dollars that the one x had better viewing angles lol
I upgrade three or four times a year.. But I think this is the greatest phone I've used yet. It helps to resell old devices to offset costs

I dont know why you guys need 54543 threads to both praise and hate the device. There should not be a "Love" thread because nobody cares if you guys like it or not. People who like it will get it. And for this matter, you can write reviews in amazon or anyother place where people will actually care about what you say.
A nexus 5 review thread could be useful here but hey, I am no mod, just keep "lovin"!
Anyway, smart people usually wait and see the reviews-issues before they buy a device, you wont convince them to anything and the ones who buy the phone immediately usually dont care about opinions.
I am a potential buyer but I am rather interested to buy it much later, thats why I lurk here.
^ Well said.. Who cares if someone else likes it or not.

I didn't think I was going to be as impressed as I actually am with this device. It is like a work of art. This is totally a flagship device. The build, screen quality and 4.4 what can be better then that. This is probably the first Nexus I would really recommend to someone wanting to try Android or even leave iOS. Usually I would always tell an older person to stick with their iPhone and a not so techy person who wants to go with Android to try an S4 or HTC One. Not this time. This device is the whole package.
Anyway, to much positive talk going on in here....This phone truly sucks.

Nicely said. Have Nexus 4, loving it. This Friday, Nexus 5, can't wait.
I have to say for all the trash being talked about the camera, I just took some low light pictures and was greatly impressed. Blew my S3 away.

Why not practice what you preach and keep your opinions to yourself?
Most definitely will love it specially when I get a custom ROM on it and add that pie control. I also would wish I had that control from the movie click which I could just click to November 8th on Friday already

i dont get whats not to love about the device. you get top hardware for 300+ dollars. KitKat which is so fluid and a joy to use. i am loving every minute of having this phone. i had the lg g2 awesome phone sucky skin. note 3. awesome phone sucky unstable skin. overprices. wayyyyy over priced.
but yet instead of enjoying the device. they take it out of the box start shaking it. wiggling buttons. tapping on it. swinging there arms. taking it apart and putting paper inside LOL. i put a spigen case on it. with rubber buttons. no rattles no shakes. no nothing. and even if it did. i loveeeeeee this nexus. best yet. enjoy your phones people.

I never said that. I only said, nobody cares if you love it. People wiho care already know why they care and anyone of you can name those things.
Its like buying a porsche and saying: "I might aswell go in a forum and praise it!". Everybody knows why its good. You know, its also a part of sending a message. Maybe goog and LG should withhold the selling of the devices to "Fix" them, and release a revision. Like the Nexus 4 did with a bumper in the back.
You will get over it eventually....eventually.
But hey, I know the feeling. Having to praise the phone and others agreeing with you and boosting your self esteem. Yep, magical. Except that when you think about it, you kinda lose the charm when you realize that you are doing so because you are unsure if you have made the right decision. So you need some external confirmation.
Hey, if I could buy this phone, I would not complain about wiggly buttons, 1-2 dead pixels and so on, because how amaizing it is. I prefer to wait after Christmas.
Would have been nice if google wasn't that cheap to save on the speaker and wifi antenna.

Switching from the S5...

Ok so..
Its been about 12 days since I have had this phone. I thought I could be patient enough with it to maybe wait for a root (if developers are even still working on it.)
Turns out I am not so patient.. I would rather switch to a company like HTC who is kind enough to give tools to their customers who want the option to do what they want with their own ****ing cell phone that they purchased. :highfive:
Anyway..
My question is: Is anyone familiar with the return policy? I am pretty sure that it is 14 days and I can trade it back in hopefully for an M8, but if someone that has experience or knowledge with this can shed some more light I would be very grateful.
Second question would be do you guys think the HTC One M8 is the best option for me right now? Ill be going through at&t and I want to be able to root and flash roms. Preferably some of the more popular ones like AOKP or Pac-Man etc..

just go do it. why do you need to ask about it when you already know the terms. simply call them or go to the store.
Later.
I am not sure about the terms, that's why I posted on these forums asking. That's why I said "I'm pretty sure" and asked if someone who knew for sure could give me more details. :good:

what's the point of posting anything here. whats the point of even sharing your thoughts of switching. if you made your decision, just go and do it. why ask us when you can ask AT&T? just leave man
Because I bought it on launch day and I am not sure how many days you get before you can return the phone. A lot of people are switching too or getting the TMO version, so I think a topic like this could become helpful to others as well.
Not sure why you are being rude, if you aren't going to help or say anything worth reading just stop typing. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings in showing that I think owning a locked down device isn't for me anymore.. it's still a great phone. I just thought I would be more patient or enjoy stock more, but I was wrong.

14 days from purchase to return and a $35 restocking fee are basically the terms.
Personally, I wouldn't switch. I think the S5 is a superior device even without root (for now). but you gotta do what's best for you. Good luck.

Thank you for a real reply and for the information, its really appreciated.
I think the S5 is a superior device too, but I really need root for certain apps. Not to mention flashing roms can be pretty fun.
Also sooo much bloat I just want to remove, not a big deal, but prefer a clean device.
Pretty sure mine will be going back in the next few days as well. I love the camera and the water resistance is great, but for the price, with the ehh battery life I've been getting and some annoying software stuff, it can't do anything that my international Note II can't.
In the future if/when someone can find an exploit and get root, I would definitely give it another shot.

Yea I completely agree. The cons just outweigh the pros for me personally in this situation!
The bloat you can disable until root comes out

I'm enjoying all these people giving up its really quite amusing. I had a backflip and an atrix your puny 12 day wait has nothing on the wait for those phones to have root.

Well the reason for the rush is I can return it for something that already has root and more development. I'd rather get more enjoyment now rather than hope and wait. Although if the return policy stated like 2 months or something, I'd honestly probably still wait those 2 months because I do enjoy this phone.
It's also the principal of the situation too though. I'm not ALL FOR companies that sell overpriced phones that, when bought, are just so locked down that i don't even feel like it's actually fully mine.
I've got a week to decide, I may stop in to have a look at the competition.
I've been seeing a lot of people posting that they aren't getting that great of battery life. I'm getting about 36 hours uptime with about 6 hours screen. Is that better or worse than what you guys are seeing? TIA.

There only seems to be a handful complaining, even on other forums people are getting crazy good battery life. Heck I can have on screen time of 4-5+ hours, tons of email, text, phone calls etc, all sync is on, gps is on etc.... and still have plenty life left at the end of the day, actually as I type this in similar situation I have 22% life left and been off the charger for 33 hours, and even browsing I still have 4 tabs open. First phone where the thought of not having enough battery doesn't even occur to me, going to be nice on trips lol.
Far as the OP, do what you have to do, though I don't know why you'd think root would've been available by now on this phone, this isn't the old days where people could crack same day. I liked the M8 but couldn't put up with the camera and bulkiness plus no water proofing.
I have the M8. If you like flashing and customizing it is a no brainer. I myself am running stock and still enjoy the device.
My wife has a S5. It's pretty and white and shimmers like nail polish. Perfect phone for a beautiful girl.
Also as far as the discussion of superiority of either device. It's an opinionated one. Each excels at their own intended goals.
If the camera of the M8 is scaring you, just ask yourself . " will I be on assignment for national geographic where I will need to take epic photos on the go?"
If you answered no, then this camera should be good enough for your personal use.
It seems like you're just asking for that little push for you to make the trade.
I am giving you that "push". Everything will be okay in HTC land....be free...
Oh yeah. Have fun with the raised speaker grills. The gamble on receiving two variations of the LCD screen and ... Yeah that's about it.
HTC UltimEight ?
It really depends on where you bought the device. Typical return policy would be 14 days. Some vendors do not charge a restocking fees on returns but "I heard" AT&T can charge you. This was forwarded to me from the sales rep. I got my S5 at Target and returned it. I was not charged with a restocking fee by them or At&t that I am aware of.
I got myself the M8 since I wanted root.

I have both, a gunmetal grey m8 and shimmery white tmo s5 sim unlocked for ATT, The m8 is great if you like to mod/customize, you can run Sense, GPE, or AOSP (cm is already being worked on)...The s5 (ATT) obviously is locked down....both phones are very nice it just depends if you need the ability to customize.
