Hi all,
ADB works fine on my W8 box, after some playing around with getting the drivers to work.
However, when I try any fastboot commands such as fastboot reboot-bootloader <waiting for device > stays on the cmd prompt no matter how long I let it sit there.
EDIT: I used the below to force the kindle to go into fastboot mode:
- Opening a debug shell with ‘adb shell’
- Within the shell, getting root with ‘su’
- Entering ‘reboot bootloader’
Now a new device called Tate-PVT-08 appears in Device manager, with no device driver assigned to it.
Can anyone help please?
OK for one thing, when using fastboot with the kindle fire, you have to start it off with the syntax "fastboot -i 0x1949” or it won't recognize the device. Also now that its in fastboot try the drivers in my signature for the tate device, it should work, however if you are on windows 8 you will need to boot up with driver signature enforcement disabled or it won't let the drivers install. One last note, on the 7” kindle you typically can't get into fastboot using the fastboot commands like you can on the HD 8.9" model when its powered off.

If it is appearing as Tate-PVT-08, I think he got it into fastboot. That only appears when it is in fastboot mode correct? But what I do think he got wrong is updating on what happened...lol.

I have a rooted Kindle Fire HD 7, running 7.4.6 stock android. I am trying to install CM using this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909. I am also on Win 8, with driver signature disabled. In normal mode, the driver is Android Composite ADB.
Using the KFFA tool, I tried to get into fastboot mode. But kindle gets stuck with orange fastboot logo. It doesnt go further. At this point, the device manager shows "Yellow warning icon" near Tate-Pvt-08. Also none of the fastboot commands are responsive. Since it is my first time, I am not sure how fastboot would look like? Can the device function normally during fastboot or does it remain stuck at this logo?
Also using KFFA, the option to reboot into normal mode from fastboot is not working. It is getting stuck at <waiting for device>. Also downgrading it to kindle 7.2.3 is not working.
I suspect it is some driver issue, but have no idea how to get it fixed. Please help.
You are completely right it is a driver issue, you need to install the drivers for fastboot, if the ones you have didn't cover it, update the driver of that device with a triangle next to it to the ones in my signature. And yes that is what fastboot mode looks like on the kindle fire hd's.

Thanks for the reply. I updated the drivers with the ones I have. Just posting the method for others with same problem. In device manager, Select Tate-Pvt-08 -> Update Drivers -> select "Let the computer choose for you" options -> choose kindle fire
Now I am trying to downgrade to 7.2.3 using KFFA tool. The console seems to be stuck at this message. I have waited for more than 15 minutes to go through. The internet is working fine. But I dont see anything using the network in the process manager.
I have fetched the recovery.img. One more to download.
What to do now? The kindle also doesnt show any popup. Just shows the fastboot logo.
So I rooted a kindle fire hd 7"? on 7.6.4 successfully then used fireflash.
I rebooted as instructed and held the volume up button to get to recovery.
it just sits at the fireflash logo now and when i try to boot regular it takes my to a "kindle Fire System Recovery" screen where I choose to reboot or reset the device.
I already tried the reset option with no luck.
How do i fix this.
You didn't flash twrp, run a "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" on your PC, then plug the kindle in while its off. If it has 2nd boot loader on it and the fastboot drivers are working, your kindle should go into fastboot, from there you can restore with kffa and start over again. If the logo never turns blue you will need a fastboot cable.

So I put fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product into cmd or what?
I have no clue what that is.
Yea it is a command you have to run in a command prmopt, but you need a copy of the fastboot command though for you to be able to run that, you can pull a fastboot command out of one of the utilities on the forum like kindle fire first aid or system restore utility, or just download the android sdk for it.

I have android sdk on my pc right now.
would i navigate to the sdk folder like cd c:/program files/sdk/platformtools/ and then run the command?
Sorry for the newbie questions, this is my first kindle.
EDIT- I just ran it through there
command worked and says waiting for device but when i plugged the kindle in it did the usual orange logo to blue logo back to orange and then system recovery thing.
What did i do wrong?
I'm guessing your fastboot drivers aren't installed, when it goes into fastboot your kindle will say fastboot on the screen in a small logo. Download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere. Open the device manager and plug your kindle in while its off, at some point if you see a tate-pvt device show up you will have to right click it and hit update drivers and point it to the ones you extracted from the zip file in my signature. If your on windows 8 you will have to disable windows driver signature enforcement first though... Once the drivers are installed the fastboot command should work on the next attempt.

So.
I am in KFFA and selected the Kindle Fire HD 7" then the 7.2.3 option.
I skipped putting it into fastboot through KFFA since it is already there.
Then it tells me there are 3 files ready to flash so I type y and it does it's thing and tells me this,
imgur.com/JidXOIG.png
I type y and hit enter.
It does it's thing again and reboots the kindle, it goes orange, blue, orange shining, fast black screen, orange logo then to this screen.
imgur.com/Qhv7yGj.jpg
So I just reboot and hold the volume button and it comes up with this fastboot logo.

Sorry about the links, I can't post full links yet.
In haven't used it myself, just run the runme.bat and look for a system restore option.

Sounds like kffa didn't download the images it needs to flash. I would try again and see if you can get it to.

I have tried 3 or 4 times now without success, I will try one more time from the beginning and see what happens.
If kffa won't work you can always try the system restore utility. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254

Well I just tried with the system restore utility and now I think it is worse.
Now it just flashed the orange kindle logo.
No blue logo or nothin.
Would this be because i was not using the original cable?
I didn't think it mattered that much since it was already going into fastboot and all.
Plus i rooted and installed CM9 on a nook with the same cable without issues.
Well because that failed you will now need a fastboot cable to fix it...

You should have had a fastboot cord before using system restore utility in the first place. Often things go wrong.
I have Kindle Fire HD 7 - 11.3.1.0
I am an adb users. I know how to use it. If that helps. My problem is that I cannot get the device to boot into fastboot. I run the command adb devices and it sees my device.. I reboot it, shell, etc. But when I run the "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" command it stays on wait for device. I am using the factory cable that came with the device. It is new. I have run out of ideas... I start with a powered off device (adb is enabled in the settings).. I run the command on the command line.. its now sitting on waiting for device....I plug in the cable .. it powers up.. but just boots. I was able to root the device.. but will NOT boot to fast boot...
Please let me know if I am missing something..
Thanks

If its rooted run this
Code:
adb shell "su -c 'reboot bootloader'"
What exactly are you trying to achieve with fastboot, that's a 2013 HD, we only have root access so I don't know what you want to use fastboot for.

Woooo, slow down. You have the 2013 Kindle Fire HD 7 and there are no exploit for the bootloader yet. You're gonna brick your tablet. That exploit is for the 2012 Kindle Fire HD 7 only. Stop now and know there is only root available for your tablet at the moment.
Hi.
I've got the same problem - but got 2012 device ( no. D059, camera on left (or right/down/up if you like ) side of screen )
I use typical usb cable, got root acces, adb see my device. But when I plug after typing "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" its normally booted up to system
any advices?

Woa there don't attempt that. 2013 kindle fire hd's aren't supposed to run a 7.x.x os, that's the version used on the previous years, your is supposed to be 11.x.x.

anybody?
I look for factory cable, but in Poland it is unavailable anywhere is there possibility to do something with normal usb cable?
"adb reboot bootloader", also what are you attempting to do with fastboot, just wanna make sure you aren't trying to downgrade to an os not meant for your device (aka anything besides 11.x.x is not meant for your device and will brick it).

I want to flash custom rom.
Read my first post in this thread - my Kindle is 2012 device.
But problem is same that adkg12's so I post here, altough write new one
Eh I would just use the fireflash method as it doesn't require fastboot access, though if you don't see the checkbox next to the red text and leave it unchecked your kindle will have a red screen that only a fastboot cable can fix. Might be less dangerous for you to just use the method you are using then, as long as you check everything's md5sum then its a lot safer for you since you can't get your bands on a fastboot cable.

So I rooted my device, and tried to unroot it because it was stuck at the blue kindle fire logo and wouldnt boot up to the actual os. Now the device only shows the orange logo, but won't go past that. Additionally, the volume up button does not make it enter fastboot. Oh and to top things off, the ADB doesnt recognize the device anymore. Instead of doing the logical thing and stopping at the first sign of an issue and coming here for help, I tried a few kindle fire recovery things from this site, but none of them seemed to make it work.
Here's what (little) else I know:
Superuser is no longer installed
I tried reinstalling Superuser.apk a while ago but system/app was read only
:crying:
Is anyone capable of helping me?
You need to enter fastboot mode, if it is a 8.9" model then a fastboot cable won't help. When it turns on it should initially show up as a jem device in the device manager, you have to install the driver when it shows up briefly, once you have the driver installed you just need to run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and then plug the kindle in while it is off, it should then go into fastboot where you can restore it with kindle fire first aid or SRT.

I have a similar problem with mine. Could you explain a little more clearly?
"You need to enter fastboot mode, if it is a 8.9" model then a fastboot cable won't help."
Do you mean that you cannot use fastboot over a terminal/command line on a computer connected to the tablet via a USB cable? Because that has not been my experience

Okay, so I got into fastboot mode on my computer and it sees the device when I input fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product. I used SRT to flash the second option, images/system2.img and I got this confirmation:
sending 'system' (907264 KB)...
It's been 40 minutes and I haven't gotten any change/update in the command line output. How long should this take/will it make things worse if I stop it?
I don't think things can get any worse if you pull it when it's not finished since it is the system partition, you will just have to try reflashing it again.

I mean a fastboot cable normally puts a kindle into fastboot mode, that's the purpose of it. On a 8.9" model they don't do this, hence the method I mentioned. This is what I have learned from all the resources on xda, I don't have a 8.9" model to test for myself though.

So just close the window doing the flash operation and try again?
Sure, wouldn't recommend it if it does that on a boot partition but there's not much else you can do when it hangs.

I can't get any fastboot commands to actually do anything! I enter them all correctly and nothing works. Any ideas?
If it says waiting for device and never did anything check the device manager and see if there's a jem device sitting there with a yellow triangle next to it. I'm about to nod off so let me say this, if you already did this I am half asleep so sorry for mentioning this again. Did you run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" then plug the device in while off and it show a fastboot logo? If no then its a driver issue.

Is it possible to root the Kindle Fire HD 7 2nd Generation?
I have been attempting to do so for the past week, with no success. Don't know if I'm not searching hard enough, or if it is simply not possible.
The first problem I had was that I wasn't able to have adb access to the Kindle Fire HD. I finally got that down, and now it works. I am able to use the "adb devices" command and my kindle appears.
I cannot report the same thing for fastboot, though. I bought a fastboot adapter for the cable from Team Blackhat and the devices goes into fastboot. Unfortunately, command prompt just says waiting for devices when I try using the "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product". I don't understand why fastboot is not accessible. (The fastboot logo does appear on the device screen.)
I have been trying to use KFSOWI All-in-One Tool, Qemu's and other well known rooting programs for the past week with no success. I simply want to root it, but I can't get it down.
If I could get some help with that, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

If the commands aren't working you probably don't have the fastboot driver installed. Look in the device manager for a device with a yellow triangle next to it, probably called Soho (I could be wrong), download my drivers and extract them somewhere, and hit update drivers on the device and point it to my drivers. If it can't find a suitable driver tell me because I don't remember if I ever added 2013 kfhd support to them.

There is no bootloader access for the Soho and the root tool you're using is for the 2012 KFHD and will not work on the 2013 KFHD.
Edit: The link in my signature will lead you to the root process for the Soho.
