Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Stuck in Demo mode.

Hey all
My kindle Fire HD 8.9 is stuck in demo mode.
Please tell me their is an idiots guide to Flashing it back or any bloody operating system cos im tearing my hear out with it..
I can do ANYTHING on the actual Unit itself the demo mode has it completely locked down Its basicaly just a slide show you cant do anything..
I have a factory cable and im not an idiot I could really use a step by step guide does anyone know of one?
Please help guys or its getting thrown of the window lol.

Use a normal cable, and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" while the device is powered off and not plugged in, then once the command prompt says waiting for device, plug you kindle in, it should boot into fastboot, from there I believe you can use kindle fire first aid to restore it to a normal amazon os. If once in fastboot you have issues with drivers, try using the ones in my signature.

I wonder if you could dumb that down a little bit more for me.
Im assuming the command you gave me is to be used with abd ?
But I cant seem to get it to work... I downloaded the Dev kit from android and whenever I click on what im assuming is the ABD exe it just does nothing
I need a little more hand holding lol

OK you can't just click that, its a command line program. Do you know how to use the windows command prompt?

Yeah I remember vaguely from years ago.
Also use dosbox sometimes so i get the general gist of it yeah.

ok so basically you need to open a command prompt, and cd into the directory fastboot and adb are in, if you don't have fastboot in the same folder as adb in your android sdk, u probably have to update it first, or just get on of the utilities from the forum that comes with it. anyways once you cd into that directory, unplug your kindle, and turn it off then run this command in command prompt: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
now after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in, i believe it will automatically power on, if it doesn't then hit the power button, it should boot into fastboot mode. From there you can use the kindle fire first aid program to flash the stock rom onto it. Kindle fire first aid is in the 7" general forum (they really should rename it, its more like kindle second generation general forum). I would post a link but i'm on my pc, yea i know that sounds weird but its much more of a pain to do that on my pc when i have as much junk up on it right now as i do, maybe i'll edit the post in a few from my kindle, i'm trying to mod the systemui and framework...

Ive managed to get in to adb and used the command u gave me.
It says waiting for device so i plugged the kindle in (powered off) The kindle turns itself on and just goes straight to demo mode CMD sits and waiting for device
The kindle always seems to install itself on my computer as a portable media device is this a problem?
I did down load the USB drivers in your signature and tried to update to them but the system says they are up to date.
I also tried to uninstall the kindle and reinstall it with your drivers and it still goes to the one windows already has for it.

Well that's odd, that should have worked on a 8.9 inch model, um I don't think fastboot cables work on 8.9 inch models, but that command should work when used like that. A few months ago I found a thread just like yours, I'd have to do some digging to find it. I will see if I can find it.
Edit: found it, you shouldn't need a fastboot cable if its a 8.9" model, read through the entire thread it may have some insights for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096555

Yeah Ide already had it the problem im having is exactly the same but the thread doesent end in a solution.

They found a solution' did you read the second page, more than one person was able to do it, using different methods. This is a weird round about method but you could look into it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39133145

Don't waste your time with this suggestion. You will need kindlefirefirstaide. There is an option to restore it to stock. You will need to modify the batch file to fix the Dropbox links. All the info you need is in the kffa thread.

Bought a Demo'd Fire HD 6 from Radio Shack during their "Going Out of Business Sale". After tons and tons and tons of reading, and attempting to reflash the boot, I just ./adb reboot recovery, and the Fire wiped clean. Performed a full factory recovery install, and proceeded to register it with Amazon. I have no intention of installing any custom ROMs on it, so now I have a fully functioning Fire for $30. :laugh:

To get rid of demo mode Amazon Fire phone
You can just hold volume up and power while device is off then toggle to wipe data factory reset and demo mode will be gone

[Q] Stuck on Kindle Fire Bootloop

This is my 1st time asking for help since I really have never needed it. I got a kindle fire HD 7" and rooted it. I added TWRP and a 2nd bootloader. For a long time I was stuck in TWRP and every time I tried to reboot it would just go back to TWRP. This morning I tried using the Kindle fire utility and selected option one. It seemed like it worked. I then rebooted and now I am stuck on the Kindle Fire boot screen. It shows Kindle fire on the screen, goes black for a few seconds, then back to the kindle fire, then goes black again. It keeps doing this over and over again. I am not able to get back into TWRP now. I am not sure what to do at this point. I have read just about every thread out there and cannot find a similar situation to mine. Any guidence would be appreciated.

OK mistake number one, do not use kindle fire utility on a kfhd, you could easily hard brick the kindle. That was designed for first gen it's and they work a bit differently than yours. OK now that I got that out of the way, does your kindle still have the logo turn blue?

Thanks for the quick reponse. When I installed the 2nd bootloader and TWRP I got into the bootloop. At that time when it would bootloop it would go from orange to blue twice before going back to TWRP again. After I made the mistake of using the Kindle FIre utility it now just keeps on the kindle fire start-up screen and it is always orange.

You are either going to need a fastboot cable to fix or have some luck getting a command to work... If you open the device manager, and plug your kindle in while its off, does a Tate device show up for a few seconds? If so try updating the drivers on the Tate device to the ones in my signature. From there you should be able to use a fastboot command to get the kindle to boot into fastboot. The command would be "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product", but if your not seeing a Tate device then this command will be useless, and I don't wanna finish explaining how to use this command until I know your PC is detecting it, assuming you don't know how to use the fastboot command by itself from a command prompt since I don't know your skill level with android stuff and windows command prompt stuff.

Thanks again for replying. I would say my experience level is low when it comes to command prompts. I get the basics though. I will check when I get home if I see if a Tate device shows up when I connect with my usb and get back to you. Even when I was in TWRP I was having difficulty seeing my device on the computer to add a custom rom to the sd card. I tried sideloading and tried mounting the sd card but nothing worked. I wish now I would have just left it in TWRP and did some more research. Live and learn I guess. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks again.

Ok. I turned off the Kindle and then attached the USB to the computer. Nothing is being recognized. I see now too that my adb interface is also gone. It appears the computer is no longer picking up anything. When I attach the Kindle to the computer it starts the bootloop again flashing the kindle fire screen over and over again. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks again.

I think your only hope is a fast boot cable, and honestly or just depends how broke it is whether it works or not

Ok. I wanted to clarify what I did to get in the situation that I am in. I rooted my device with no issues. I then decided to install a 2nd bootloader and TWRP. After all was done my Kindle Fire HD 7" booted to TWRP. I could not get my computer to show my device so I was stuck. Every time I would reboot it would flash kindle fire in orange, then in Blue, then in Orange, the in Blue then would go back to TWRP. I then put the device with the USB attached to my computer and from TWRP I put the device into fastboot mode. I then used the KFHD SRT v1.3.5 tool and opened the SR.Tool.bat and chose option 1. After it was done I rebooted and now I am stuck on the Kindle fire screen (in orange) and it will show for a few seconds, turn off, then go back to the kindle fire screen again (in orange) and just keep repeating. I ordered a factory cable to try to get back to fastboot mode but since it did not work for me the 1st time I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it is a factory/fastboot cable? I would either get them from skorn or proxenusa since I know they are reliable.

Hello again. I don't have the factory cable yet; I just ordered it yesterday. When I used the fastboot mode the last time I entered the mode from TWRP and was connected to my computer with a regular usb charger. When it was in fastboot mode I selected the option 1 from the tool I mentioned in my previous post. I am just wondering if the fastboot did not work with the KFHD tool I used because I did not have a factory cable connected hence why I am stuck on the Kindle fire screen. What do you think?

No, typically it is said to use a fastboot cable just to get the device into fastboot, then plug the normal cable in afterward.

For future reference, when you get your kindle back up and running again, you need to flash a custom ROM to boot. The TWRP boot loop stems from trying to boot into stock ROM, it won't work. So just put a ROM on your kindle before you flash bootloader + twrp next time.

It had no error, it acted like it worked but was still in fastboot mode.

I would try it again, did you do a system restore to one of the older versions listed or restored to a backup? If that stills doesn't work I would try the kindle fire system restore tool. It's in the android development section I believe.

That doesn't work either.

What exactly happens, because I need to know if its flashing successfully, if it is maybe you have a different kindle than the image you are trying to flash, that would explain why it still isn't booting. When you put it in fastboot, CD into the directory of either kfhdsrt or kffa, and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and tell me what it outputs.

Tate-PVT-08, also it says like finished, it doesn't give any error after it finishes.

Yea. When it turns on it goes right to fastboot.

OK I think I took the wrong approach, your problem might be simpler than I thought it to be. Type "fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot". I'm thinking the idme got set to boot loader if I think I know what I'm talking about.

Have you tried pulling the USB connection as quickly as possible when the screen goes black after issuing the command? I do that with my fastboot cable and it's what I like to do

i'm having the same problem too.. i tried following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909 to flash TWRP and then hopefully a ROM. After running the FireFlash app and rebooting the kindle it was stuck at the Kindle boot logo. i powered it off and later that night i tried turning it on and this time it boot into TWRP which was great but i made the mistake of not copying the rom file to the kindle before rebooting the first time so now rom to flash in recovery and the use mount feature int TWRP didn't work (couldn't pick up the kindle when connect to the computer) i then power it off again and the next day i tried to turn it on again and give it another try and this time it boots to Fastboot mode instead and thats were i am not. IDK how come it keeps changing
Edit.. ok now i got fastboot to work. i tried flashing TWRP recovery with fastboot. it looks like it works but when i reboot it goes back to fastboot mood. even if i hold down the volume up and power it still goes to fastboot mode..

Amazon Kindle Fire HD Stuck In Fastboot Mode HELP !!!

I moved into a new house yesterday and when un packing I found an Amazon Kindle Fire HD that was basically left behind I went to plug it in to my phone charger Micro USB and it began too boot up but then stopped at the Fastboot logo with Kindle Fire under it. Ive never had a Kindle Fire before so not really sure what to do tried connecting it to my Laptop but nothing shows up i.e installs etc. I don't know if it would be bricked or a software fault and tried Power and Volume Up and Down to see if there is a recovery system but they isn't.

Once the drivers are installed I would suggest trying a simple

tried the driver but now in device manager the kindle has that yellow triangle and fastboot is stuck on waiting for device

Yellow triangle probably means the driver is still not installed...

First of all, i'm kind of a noob as far as kindle development issues concern, but i managed to install custom roms before (in fact, my brick problema began when i tried to upgrade to CM11 from goo.im). I am really desperate right now because i followed all the instructions in several threads but nothing helped me so far.
Here is my situation:
My kindle fire hd 7" is stuck at Fastboot mode after my failed attempt to upgrade from CM10.1 to CM11. My computer recognizes it as Tate-PVT-08 but it's not accepting any fastboot commands, except for "fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot". When i run this command, my kindle actually "reboots" but goes into fatboot mode again and again. When in "cmd", it doesn't recognize the devices either, but when run command "getvar" shows Tate-PVT-08. In conclusión, i want to know if there is a problema with the instalation of cmd in my PC, or if you can recommend any tool to restore my Tablet, even if it means going back to stock OS.
Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Are you using a fastboot cord? If so that's why. Use that command and then pull the cord from the computer as soon as it restarts.

If you see the blue TWRP there may be hope without a doing a factory reset. Press the power button for 30 seconds and power down the KFHD7. Now hit power to turn the Kindle on and as soon as you see the yellow Kindle boot animation hold the volume rocker up and continue to hold it there until until you see the blue TWRP boot animation and continue pressing for three seconds, then release. Do you boot into TWRP? If you see the blue TWRP boot animation you should have it.

Mr LinearEquation, thank you so much for your advice.
Following a different thread i managed to boot into TWRP by flashing images of "Freedom Boot" and TWRP itself via fastboot commands. Now in theory i can flash a .zip of any ROM but the thing is that i cannot load zips to the Tablet. even though it's recognized now as KINDLE instead of Tate-PVT-08 in the Device Manager, i'm not able to see the kindle as a Pop-up window where you can drag-and-drop files to the Tablet.
The question is: How do i push a ROM via adb as you mentioned in your previous message? Do you know which file do i need and the proper command to push it?

Help! Mine was stuck in fastboot. When I hit the power button it boots up automatically in fastboot with any device attached to it. Then after a few sec it goes off.

I have also noticed if you scroll down to troubleshooting section on the first page of first link it lists your problem and the steps to resolve it

Thank you for the reply. Well, my first problem is the kindle doesn't stay on fastboot. It shuts down after a second.

Hi I locked mine up also and used a program called
Demo Mode Restore. Basically you shut off your kindle and unplug the charge/data cable run the program and click enter once then says plug you kindle in and when it boots the program catches it before it starts up and all you have to do is follow the directions and when it restarts its like when you first took it out of the box
You`ll have to do a search for Demo Mode Restore

Ive never had a Kindle Fire before so not really sure what to do tried connecting it to my Laptop but nothing shows up i.e installs etc. I don't know if it would be bricked or a software fault and tried Power and Volume Up and Down to see if there is a recovery system but they isn't.

[Q] Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Bricked... Super lost need help

So I rooted my device, and tried to unroot it because it was stuck at the blue kindle fire logo and wouldnt boot up to the actual os. Now the device only shows the orange logo, but won't go past that. Additionally, the volume up button does not make it enter fastboot. Oh and to top things off, the ADB doesnt recognize the device anymore. Instead of doing the logical thing and stopping at the first sign of an issue and coming here for help, I tried a few kindle fire recovery things from this site, but none of them seemed to make it work.
Here's what (little) else I know:
Superuser is no longer installed
I tried reinstalling Superuser.apk a while ago but system/app was read only

You need to enter fastboot mode, if it is a 8.9" model then a fastboot cable won't help. When it turns on it should initially show up as a jem device in the device manager, you have to install the driver when it shows up briefly, once you have the driver installed you just need to run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and then plug the kindle in while it is off, it should then go into fastboot where you can restore it with kindle fire first aid or SRT.

I have a similar problem with mine. Could you explain a little more clearly?

Do you mean that you cannot use fastboot over a terminal/command line on a computer connected to the tablet via a USB cable? Because that has not been my experience

Okay, so I got into fastboot mode on my computer and it sees the device when I input fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product. I used SRT to flash the second option, images/system2.img and I got this confirmation:
sending 'system' (907264 KB)...
It's been 40 minutes and I haven't gotten any change/update in the command line output. How long should this take/will it make things worse if I stop it?

I don't think things can get any worse if you pull it when it's not finished since it is the system partition, you will just have to try reflashing it again.

I mean a fastboot cable normally puts a kindle into fastboot mode, that's the purpose of it. On a 8.9" model they don't do this, hence the method I mentioned. This is what I have learned from all the resources on xda, I don't have a 8.9" model to test for myself though.

So just close the window doing the flash operation and try again?

Sure, wouldn't recommend it if it does that on a boot partition but there's not much else you can do when it hangs.

I can't get any fastboot commands to actually do anything! I enter them all correctly and nothing works. Any ideas?

If it says waiting for device and never did anything check the device manager and see if there's a jem device sitting there with a yellow triangle next to it. I'm about to nod off so let me say this, if you already did this I am half asleep so sorry for mentioning this again. Did you run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" then plug the device in while off and it show a fastboot logo? If no then its a driver issue.
