Hey all
My kindle Fire HD 8.9 is stuck in demo mode.
Please tell me their is an idiots guide to Flashing it back or any bloody operating system cos im tearing my hear out with it..
I can do ANYTHING on the actual Unit itself the demo mode has it completely locked down Its basicaly just a slide show you cant do anything..
I have a factory cable and im not an idiot I could really use a step by step guide does anyone know of one?
Please help guys or its getting thrown of the window lol.
Use a normal cable, and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" while the device is powered off and not plugged in, then once the command prompt says waiting for device, plug you kindle in, it should boot into fastboot, from there I believe you can use kindle fire first aid to restore it to a normal amazon os. If once in fastboot you have issues with drivers, try using the ones in my signature.

Im assuming the command you gave me is to be used with abd ?
But I cant seem to get it to work... I downloaded the Dev kit from android and whenever I click on what im assuming is the ABD exe it just does nothing

Yeah I remember vaguely from years ago.
Also use dosbox sometimes so i get the general gist of it yeah.
ok so basically you need to open a command prompt, and cd into the directory fastboot and adb are in, if you don't have fastboot in the same folder as adb in your android sdk, u probably have to update it first, or just get on of the utilities from the forum that comes with it. anyways once you cd into that directory, unplug your kindle, and turn it off then run this command in command prompt: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
now after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in, i believe it will automatically power on, if it doesn't then hit the power button, it should boot into fastboot mode. From there you can use the kindle fire first aid program to flash the stock rom onto it. Kindle fire first aid is in the 7" general forum (they really should rename it, its more like kindle second generation general forum). I would post a link but i'm on my pc, yea i know that sounds weird but its much more of a pain to do that on my pc when i have as much junk up on it right now as i do, maybe i'll edit the post in a few from my kindle, i'm trying to mod the systemui and framework...

Ive managed to get in to adb and used the command u gave me.
It says waiting for device so i plugged the kindle in (powered off) The kindle turns itself on and just goes straight to demo mode CMD sits and waiting for device
The kindle always seems to install itself on my computer as a portable media device is this a problem?
I did down load the USB drivers in your signature and tried to update to them but the system says they are up to date.
I also tried to uninstall the kindle and reinstall it with your drivers and it still goes to the one windows already has for it.
Well that's odd, that should have worked on a 8.9 inch model, um I don't think fastboot cables work on 8.9 inch models, but that command should work when used like that. A few months ago I found a thread just like yours, I'd have to do some digging to find it. I will see if I can find it.
Edit: found it, you shouldn't need a fastboot cable if its a 8.9" model, read through the entire thread it may have some insights for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096555

Yeah Ide already had it the problem im having is exactly the same but the thread doesent end in a solution.

Don't waste your time with this suggestion. You will need kindlefirefirstaide. There is an option to restore it to stock. You will need to modify the batch file to fix the Dropbox links. All the info you need is in the kffa thread.
Bought a Demo'd Fire HD 6 from Radio Shack during their "Going Out of Business Sale". After tons and tons and tons of reading, and attempting to reflash the boot, I just ./adb reboot recovery, and the Fire wiped clean. Performed a full factory recovery install, and proceeded to register it with Amazon. I have no intention of installing any custom ROMs on it, so now I have a fully functioning Fire for $30. :laugh:
To get rid of demo mode Amazon Fire phone
You can just hold volume up and power while device is off then toggle to wipe data factory reset and demo mode will be gone

I have purchased two original Kindle Fire Demo Units off eBay, rooted and tried a variety of ROMs and really enjoy them. I was wondering how I go about rooted a demo unit Kindle Fire HD and what ROM I should put on it?

use that tool it will allow you to flash the stock retail rom and your kindle. once you flash the stock rom your free to use the kindle as you like
i did have a issue where touch was not working on the first flash but i flashed a boot.img and it cured the problem

To exit fastboot type "fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot"
Now you'd want to install Hashcode's 2nd bootloader and TWRP to flash roms.

You can download the stock kindle fire hd 7.3.1 rom and flash with twrp and the wait for a proper CM10.1 release which is due very soon.

That method is only good if your not running the Demo Rom as ADB is blocked you can not access the settings menu to enable it

Straight From The Top Man who has blessed the Kindle scene. Its Strongly recommended you get a Fastboot cable and then you wont have any problems flashing if it all goes tits up on ya

So I tried your method but my Kindle wont boot into fastboot. It will turn on when i plug it into my PC with the cable but just continues with the demo stuff. Should i try and get a new cable? I have the ADB drivers installed
You have to use a fastboot cord. This is a factory cord not the standard USB cord. You can make one of buy on for 10 buck or so off eBay.
First, you have to completely power down your KFHD. Hold the power button down for 20 seconds if nothing else. Now connect the KFHD 7 to the PC with the fastboot cord. You should see the word fastboot light up on your screen in just a few seconds.
Now follow the instructions provided in your quote. You can also try Kindle Fire FirstAide. The instructions provided are solid though.

For the Faint of Heart
If you're feeling really adventurous and know how to solder, you could try this. I may end up doing this as well, as I bricked my own KFHD and don't wanna drop $13 for a fastboot cable, and can't get the head off my spare micro-USB cable.
Buying demo units is nice, because you can buy the Kindle for less than half the price, put it into fastboot, and have a normal KFHD.
As for which ROM to use, I would go with @Hashcode's CM10.2. But that's just my suggestion. If you want to still have all of Amazon's media services, such as Prime Video and the Kindle Fire reading app, you can use Kinology.
So my fastboot cable will cause my Kindle to turn on when its plugged into a computer but it doesn't go into fastboot mode. Do I need special drivers on my computer for this to work? I tried it without any software on my computer and with ADB + Kidnle drivers and neither works. When I plug the cable into my Droid 4 and my computer it boots my phone into some sort of special mode, doesn't specifically say fastmode though. Do I need a new cable? Or did I buy an lemon of demo unit lol. Thanks

Fastboot cables don't work on 8.9” models, those are much simpler to get into fastboot, at least from my standpoint, you basically just open a command prompt up and CD into he folder with fastboot and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and then after it says waiting for device you plug the kindle in while powered off with a normal cable. You might have to install the fastboot drivers though and that's kinda tricky because the device briefly appears as a fastboot device in the device manager when it first turns on and that's when you would have to update the drivers so it can communicate and send that command so it pops into fastboot. Probably is easier in my opinion to do it from an Ubuntu live CD after installing the fastboot command from the repos on13.10, but i only suggest that if you have driver issues.

to unlock most kindles from store demo mode is easy . simple type in the search bar of the kindle
; demo
a list of options will pop up simple choose the resell option .
or any option you choose to reconnect wifi ect...
1 inserch bar of kindle . type ( ;demo )
2 erase all store info .
3 simple hit erase all info and tap the resll option .
thats it your kindle will be as good as a new product ..

Hi all.
I am experienced with the android phones but i am so clueless with this damn kindle fire hd crap thing so i would like to get some help from the lovely community.
I have just received a kindle fire hd from a very close friend yesterday and have been up all night reading most of the guides here and i am still stuck with the damn boot-loops.
I have installed the drivers for the device and i got the sdk adb package along with KFFirstAide.
Main problem :
I don't know what they did to the device "8 and 7 year old kids" but when i plugged it into the charger it started charging when it charged i moved over to the pc and plugged it into the usb on the pc and used abd in cmd the device is not recognized by the abd on pc so no commands works.
The boot-screen or what ever is a "kindlefire" logo with lights moving from one end to the other and its repetitive and that all the life i get out of it.
I know they didn't try and root the device as they are small kids and have no knowledge of that sort.
I cant give any info on the build or any software related info as i got it in my hands when it wasn't working and i am relying on this community's help.

You are going to need to get it into fastboot and reflash the system image probably, to do that u can try powering it of and running "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" from a command prompt, and plugging the kindle in while it says waiting for device. This command is either part of the android SDK, or you can download a utility that has it such as the one mentioned below in link. I personally haven't ever succeeded getting it I to fast boot using that method so if that method fails you will need to buy a fastboot cable or make one, that will kick it into fastboot mode. If u succeed in getting it into fast boot mode you should use the kfhd system image restore tool, lemme get link.

Thanks very much for your reply but i have already tried the command line you supplied and every time i turn it off and then get the command line ready following by plugging in the usb while the kindle is shut off it just turns on and hangs in the "kindle fire" boot logo.
I cant tell if this is brink or if its just hanging there nor do i know what those kids did to it.
The kindlefire hd is 7" as i got a 8.9" samgsung galaxy tablet my self and kindlefire measured with that seams to be a 7"er.
The main problem is the pc cant detect this kindle device at all its as if i haven't connected the cable at all but the device it self does detect the cable as it turns on and goes into that annoying "kindlefire" boot logo mode and stays there.
Like I said I have never gotten that command to work, just get a fast boot cable they are fairly cheap around 10-15$, or make one if you have a soldering iron. They will make your kindle boot up from off into fast boot mode. This will definitely help you unbrick your kindle.

I bricked my Kindle Fire HD. I now have a factory cable that brings it up to a Fastboot screen. But all it does it stay on that screen.
My ultimate goal was to put Jelly Bean on it, but I guess I wasn't smart enough to do that.
How does this cable work? And is my only option restoring it to factory settings?
What do I do? I have a hard time figuring out what directions to use because it seems like every website says something different.
The factory cable doesn't do anything but put the device in fastboot mode. You have to use fastboot to restore partition images saved from the 2nd bootloader instructions. Once your device is restored, you can start all over again.
Can you point me towards the best set of directions for this Fastboot? I plug it in and all it does it stay in the Fastboot startup screen.

That's exactly what it's supposed to do. It's just a bootmode that waits to accept a certain set of (fastboot) commands. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, do you have the partition images to restore in the first place?
I don't think I have a backup. I really didn't know what I was doing. My laptop recognizes the device as Tate-PVT-08. I have the Minimal ADB and Fastboot software, but that doesn't recognize it yet.
There's a system image restore script in the android development section, but you said HD and not if it was 7 or 8.9 inch. Pretty sure its a 7 inch since it says Tate, think 8.9 is jem, so here the link if its a 7 inch version. Oh and ignore the stuff on step 2 about running an adb command, that's only for if Ur kindle is actually able to boot up all the way.

My Kindle Fire only show Kindle HD in 6 seconds and turn off after that. I don't know how to fix it

You need a fastboot cable. Odd that it shuts off, I don't think its a sign of a bad bootloader atleast, maybe a bad kernel flash or something. My post above applies to you as well, get a fastboot cable and try that utility. Think it should do the trick. Keep in mind that link is for the 7 inch version of that utility, you didn't specify which kindle it is so if its a 8.9 then post another msg because u might not need a fastboot cable and you will need a link to the 8.9" version of that utility.

So I rooted a kindle fire hd 7"? on 7.6.4 successfully then used fireflash.
I rebooted as instructed and held the volume up button to get to recovery.
it just sits at the fireflash logo now and when i try to boot regular it takes my to a "kindle Fire System Recovery" screen where I choose to reboot or reset the device.
I already tried the reset option with no luck.
How do i fix this.
You didn't flash twrp, run a "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" on your PC, then plug the kindle in while its off. If it has 2nd boot loader on it and the fastboot drivers are working, your kindle should go into fastboot, from there you can restore with kffa and start over again. If the logo never turns blue you will need a fastboot cable.

Yea it is a command you have to run in a command prmopt, but you need a copy of the fastboot command though for you to be able to run that, you can pull a fastboot command out of one of the utilities on the forum like kindle fire first aid or system restore utility, or just download the android sdk for it.

I have android sdk on my pc right now.
would i navigate to the sdk folder like cd c:/program files/sdk/platformtools/ and then run the command?

EDIT- I just ran it through there
command worked and says waiting for device but when i plugged the kindle in it did the usual orange logo to blue logo back to orange and then system recovery thing.

I'm guessing your fastboot drivers aren't installed, when it goes into fastboot your kindle will say fastboot on the screen in a small logo. Download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere. Open the device manager and plug your kindle in while its off, at some point if you see a tate-pvt device show up you will have to right click it and hit update drivers and point it to the ones you extracted from the zip file in my signature. If your on windows 8 you will have to disable windows driver signature enforcement first though... Once the drivers are installed the fastboot command should work on the next attempt.

So.
I am in KFFA and selected the Kindle Fire HD 7" then the 7.2.3 option.
I skipped putting it into fastboot through KFFA since it is already there.
Then it tells me there are 3 files ready to flash so I type y and it does it's thing and tells me this,

I type y and hit enter.
It does it's thing again and reboots the kindle, it goes orange, blue, orange shining, fast black screen, orange logo then to this screen.

So I just reboot and hold the volume button and it comes up with this fastboot logo.

In haven't used it myself, just run the runme.bat and look for a system restore option.

Sounds like kffa didn't download the images it needs to flash. I would try again and see if you can get it to.

I have tried 3 or 4 times now without success, I will try one more time from the beginning and see what happens.
If kffa won't work you can always try the system restore utility. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254

Well I just tried with the system restore utility and now I think it is worse.
Now it just flashed the orange kindle logo.
No blue logo or nothin.
Would this be because i was not using the original cable?
I didn't think it mattered that much since it was already going into fastboot and all.
Plus i rooted and installed CM9 on a nook with the same cable without issues.
Well because that failed you will now need a fastboot cable to fix it...

You should have had a fastboot cord before using system restore utility in the first place. Often things go wrong.
I have Kindle Fire HD 7 - 11.3.1.0
I am an adb users. I know how to use it. If that helps. My problem is that I cannot get the device to boot into fastboot. I run the command adb devices and it sees my device.. I reboot it, shell, etc. But when I run the "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" command it stays on wait for device. I am using the factory cable that came with the device. It is new. I have run out of ideas... I start with a powered off device (adb is enabled in the settings).. I run the command on the command line.. its now sitting on waiting for device....I plug in the cable .. it powers up.. but just boots. I was able to root the device.. but will NOT boot to fast boot...
Please let me know if I am missing something..

What exactly are you trying to achieve with fastboot, that's a 2013 HD, we only have root access so I don't know what you want to use fastboot for.

I want to flash it back to the earlier version .. is this not possible.. it seems to be...reading that it needs to be reverted to 7.3 or something..
And no.. running that command doesnt work either.. It reboots, but only boots up to a normal boot..

Woooo, slow down. You have the 2013 Kindle Fire HD 7 and there are no exploit for the bootloader yet. You're gonna brick your tablet. That exploit is for the 2012 Kindle Fire HD 7 only. Stop now and know there is only root available for your tablet at the moment.

I've got the same problem - but got 2012 device ( no. D059, camera on left (or right/down/up if you like ) side of screen )
I use typical usb cable, got root acces, adb see my device. But when I plug after typing "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" its normally booted up to system
any advices?

Woa there don't attempt that. 2013 kindle fire hd's aren't supposed to run a 7.x.x os, that's the version used on the previous years, your is supposed to be 11.x.x.

I look for factory cable, but in Poland it is unavailable anywhere is there possibility to do something with normal usb cable?
"adb reboot bootloader", also what are you attempting to do with fastboot, just wanna make sure you aren't trying to downgrade to an os not meant for your device (aka anything besides 11.x.x is not meant for your device and will brick it).

I want to flash custom rom.

Eh I would just use the fireflash method as it doesn't require fastboot access, though if you don't see the checkbox next to the red text and leave it unchecked your kindle will have a red screen that only a fastboot cable can fix. Might be less dangerous for you to just use the method you are using then, as long as you check everything's md5sum then its a lot safer for you since you can't get your bands on a fastboot cable.
