My brothers htc desire c is stuck with the phone saying it is charging while no charger is plugged in. Have tried reset, battery pull, and hard reset. We are thinking its a hardware issue due to the fact that it does not charge while the cord is plugged in. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks I advance.

Have you tried flashing a custom rom?
Anyways, I had a Sony Ericsson that did that. It said it was charging but it wasn't, it had one of those weird set of copper (I think) plates that were used for USB connection, charging and headphones. It derped and it was showing a charging animation constantly.
It was an old phone so I just used clean alcohol to clean the plates and it kinda fixed itself, although I do not recommend doing that for your device, because it has a different hardware setup.

With stock sense and a stock kernel it may also be a kernel issue as the kernel contains the Charging Animation configuration and stuff, although flashing a custom Rom would probably solve the problem, although if still under manufacturers warranty send it back and get a new one before voiding anything..
No the phone is not rooted. It will not even connect to the computer through usb. I am beginning to think its somthing to do with the usb port on the phone. I might go ahead and try the alcohol thing. Thanks will update.

Before you do whatever, send it to the manufacturer if in warranty. Also USB ports work different from Sony erricson connection thingies, so be really careful what you do with it.

I was flashing my MS and the battery was pretty low. The phone went off and now. it goes to the bootloader screen and it says "corrupted Code" Battery Low. Cannot program.
Any help?

is there anything i can do about this?
Easy... try to get a full battery...
Is there a way to reinstall or recover a verified signed bootloader maybe?

I think you've got a few options.
One is to find another charged battery.
Second is to find another Milestone to charge your battery in (in which case you'd probably have access to another battery anyway).
Third is to supply power to the phone directly bypassing the battery.
There was a thread about this when I got my first milestone (which was 'broken' with these same symptoms). Basically you can chop off the end of a USB cable and stick the red and black wires in with the battery to supply 5V directly (I soldered them directly to the battery to ensure they didn't cross, but I'm quite good at soldering/desoldering). Then the phone thinks the battery is full and allows programming. And after it's programmed charging of the battery through the phone will work again.

red goes on + black on - of the battery. easy.
oooh nice I did CPR on my old old HTC Wizard - it was shipped with empty battery and couldn't charge without the system running.
However - I've used an old PC PSU, because I was afraid to short circuit the USB port on my notebook
I would recommend buying second backup battery, even those chinese are doing pretty good for the price.

Normally in that hole there is a little socket, I'm pretty sure it is for testing purpose and it is not used normally. So nothing to worries about

look in controlpanel -> find device manager and see what it calls the phone when it is connected.
is screen always totally black after you have cleaned it and it was not black before you cleaned it ? if you took phone apart, something is not sitting correctly for sure. that should not be able to brick phone that way
well i tried dismembering it again an reattaching everything again to no avail. BLACK SCREEN.. i took a photo of the phone before doing any soft updates to it and i noticed now it said it was s-on, now i am a hd2 user and at that moment didn't realize.. so is it possible that it is bricked because it got flashed with a rom on a s-on mode? cause any other thing is that testing point that i am missing that was strangely connected with a small wire in the middle but it worked with that so... any repairman around or something like that ...help..please
So, I got my HTC One 3 days ago now, and it's amazing. I'm in love!
I switched from an old HTC Desire Z which was just getting too slow to do anything, and I don't regret switching at all!
There's only one thing that really annoys me.
The HTC One came with in-ear headphones, whereas the ones from my old phone, are standard headphones, or whatever they're called.
So naturally, I figured I'd just use my old ones. However, they don't work. The plugs appear to be identical. (Despite the red rings on the ones from the One.)

I should probably note that the in-ear headphones works fine, although they're uncomfortable.

I have the same problem with my Klipsch s4i, they work fine with my PC, Laptop and iPod. Phone just does not detected a headset when they are plugged in. Stock headset works, so do my Razer Electra. Funny thing is my brothers Klipsch s4 even work yet my s4i don't.
I've given up at this point but will keep eye on this thread and hope you find a solution to the problem.

I'm super glad to know that I'm not the only one with that problem! However it still sucks that we don't have a solution.
I'll try to drop by the local phone store tomorrow to hear if they have any ideas.
sorry, i posted but then after going back to read OPs question, i think i should start my own thread....
Okay it seems as though my headphones are the culprit, bending the wire at the top of the jack makes the phone detect them so it's a loose wire, once detected they seem to work fine.
I have a Google Glass unit, and it reports the software version XE13. This same Glass unit doesn't have a working USB port either (it's broken).
Is there anything of interest I could check out?
As for what I noticed:
- The shutdown screen sometimes (maybe always) shows an outline of red and blue

This is a Home Trial device. Google breaks the USB ports, so they can't be charged. The XE13 software is a slightly updated version of XE12.
Did you buy it from Google, or from someone on ebay or such?
TheManii said:
Not really related, but could you dump the rom if it first?
(im not sure how easy this part would be without a working usb port, you would normally simply "adb pull /system" if it worked)
I doubt that there is an ota for it to begin with, they likely never made a patch for it since it isnt public.
(unless the glass team's policy differs from the standard android one) they generally do not make otas for combinations that they would not expect in the wild
Normally if this were a nexus device, the course of action would be to just use the factory image, but like you mentioned the usb port isnt able to be detected by a pc.
If you can root it without using the usb port, it might be possible to manually get CWM loaded on it and update with a manually made update zip. But without a usb port, if anything goes wrong then it would be very difficult to recover from that.

When you say 'I got my kit from google." Do you mean the explorer's program, or did you buy it for the full price? You can't update/flash from XE13, since the USB port is broken. Neither can you set up ADB over TCPIP. OTA's are unavailable too, since XE13 is not allowed to receive OTA's.
I got in from google with the home try out kit.

Is their another solution that doesn't take much time to test/try until then?
