[Q] T-Mobile Tethering

Is anyone on T-Mobile and able to tether successfully? I recently picked up the developer edition and am unable to tether on Android 4.4 Kit Kat. I used to be able to tether on my Nexus 4 running 4.3 without a tethering plan.
Yeah... Google broke (or fixed depending on your point of view) this in 4.4. No longer works without a plan on both my Nexus 4 and Moto X.
One less reason for stock Android.

Were you able to find a workaround on your Moto X? Or are you just accepting that it is no longer there.

I used it so rarely I don't really care. There is a workaround if your rooted (changing an entry in an SQLite file). Try a search.

Wi-Fi tethering without subscription?

I have a short trip coming and would like to have the WiFi tethering if possible. My current data plan does not have the subscription.
And my phone is not rooted.
Is it possible to have by-pass check for a week?
Thanks

Havent seen any nonroot tethering working, i know Verizon will let you for $1 a day if you call ahead.
Since the T-Mobile version is basically the same as a Developer Edition phone, can you enable WiFi hotspot on that one without additional fees?

With the Moto X, they seem to know that you're tethering... I as able to do this on my Nexus 4 running < 4.4 but once I upgraded, I wasn't able to anymore...
I haven't found a workaround right now.
My understanding is that there is no work around under 4.4 without root.

Just root and get it. rooting this device was pretty easy. if you do not have the developer edition it will void your warranty though.

I use GFE. Until that thread sorts out KitKat, I'd have to wait.

what about the moto X and 4.3? Were you able to tether with t-mobile without a tethering plan before the kitkat upgrade? Thanks.
I'm on the $30 T-Mobile plan. Tethering worked before 4.4.

Wifi Tether?

Hey, are you guys able to make your phone a wifi tether/hotspot? I have VZW Unlimited and I currently use the tethering feature all the time on my GalaxyS3, is this an option on the MotoX?

Only if you're rooted or you subscribe to the tethering feature.
So it is possible to tether for free with root? And I presume root is possible on "non-dev editions"

The only devices that cannot be unlocked are: VZW (non-dev edition), AT&T, and Republic Wireless. All other variants can be unlocked/rooted.
ALL devices (every single one) on 4.4.2 or lower can be rooted.
Search is your friend....

Does anyone know if FoxFi works for this phone?
Or any other tethering apps?

I dont own it but guess this depends on what carrier? I was told by ATT that all their phones with the new plans have unlocked tethering since you buy the data....otherwise not sure.

[Q] Wifi Hotpot - Do we have any options on a NON Pure Edition?

So I am running the 2013 X, unlocked bootloader with xposed and can tether via a the xposed module. Is there a way to tether on the new 2014 Moto X on Verizon? NOT the Pure Edition, im talking the 'regular' Moto X (Verizon.) I am going to order the new on on Monday but this is really the only reason its holding me back. I don't want to root or anything like that, but I rooted my 2013 just to get tether. I know Lollipop will make it difficult, but I know the community does not like to be told NO!
Anyone have anything working with Lollipop on non pure edition? Would love to hear, thanks.
Bump
Yeah, pay for it. I have no trouble tethering on my VZW variant.

Ooooohhhhhhhhhh a smart guy huh? I appreciate the reply, you certainly contributed to this thread and judging by the response, you must contribute to the human race too... Jackass
I was always able to tether on my carrier devices (without any additional fees) with Telus. Same goes with my Moto X 2014.

Me too! Nothing disabled on the Telus version. As a bonus it shows the connected protocol, not stupid 3G or 4G.

Telus isn't Verizon - that's where the problem lies. Only Verizon is the NON- Pure edition Moto X - they lock it down like fort knox

I hope PDANet USB tether at least works.

AT&T has a variant that is not Pure Edition, and so does US Cellular. USCC's has unlockable bootloader. Finally some benefits for sticking with US Cellular! (even though XDA continues to refuse to acknowledge our existence).
Drop Verizon.

Grandfathered into an Unlimited plan from nearly 10 years ago - the National Guard would need to take this plan with a big goddamn army if I am going to dump this.
