Does anyone know if FoxFi works for this phone?
Or any other tethering apps?

I dont own it but guess this depends on what carrier? I was told by ATT that all their phones with the new plans have unlocked tethering since you buy the data....otherwise not sure.

Since the verizon version is out,can anyone speak on this?
I've got a T-Mobile Moto X (XT1053) on the way. I didn't do the dev version since I wanted to customize with motomaker. I'm intending to use it with AT&T though in the short term.
I'm curious if anyone else doing this arrangement can comment on the native tethering experience on AT&T? Since it's the T-Mobile model, does it bother with an entitlement check? Does it just work? That's pretty much the only reason for me to bother rooting since I wanted to stay on the stock rom for this phone. Would be pretty sweet if tethering just worked
Whoops - noticed this is general. Mods please move to Q/A section

If you're planning to root it, you can solve the problem easily...otherwise, at least my att phone tried to check with net10 (my carrier) when I triT
There is a thread with the instructions for wifi tethering w/out the check.
If I could get away without rooting it i'd rather skip doing so, but if the check is still happening than I guess that's a good reason to root. Saw http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544679 is how to get around if rooted.
I just got the dev model this week and native tethering works perfectly on AT&T, no need to root.

Awesome, thanks!
Just got my MotoMaker T-Mobile model today and popped in an AT&T nano sim. Tethering indeed works perfectly on it! YAY.
I have a short trip coming and would like to have the WiFi tethering if possible. My current data plan does not have the subscription.
And my phone is not rooted.
Is it possible to have by-pass check for a week?
Thanks

Havent seen any nonroot tethering working, i know Verizon will let you for $1 a day if you call ahead.
Since the T-Mobile version is basically the same as a Developer Edition phone, can you enable WiFi hotspot on that one without additional fees?

With the Moto X, they seem to know that you're tethering... I as able to do this on my Nexus 4 running < 4.4 but once I upgraded, I wasn't able to anymore...
I haven't found a workaround right now.
My understanding is that there is no work around under 4.4 without root.

Just root and get it. rooting this device was pretty easy. if you do not have the developer edition it will void your warranty though.

I use GFE. Until that thread sorts out KitKat, I'd have to wait.

what about the moto X and 4.3? Were you able to tether with t-mobile without a tethering plan before the kitkat upgrade? Thanks.
I'm on the $30 T-Mobile plan. Tethering worked before 4.4.
Hey, are you guys able to make your phone a wifi tether/hotspot? I have VZW Unlimited and I currently use the tethering feature all the time on my GalaxyS3, is this an option on the MotoX?

Only if you're rooted or you subscribe to the tethering feature.
So it is possible to tether for free with root? And I presume root is possible on "non-dev editions"

The only devices that cannot be unlocked are: VZW (non-dev edition), AT&T, and Republic Wireless. All other variants can be unlocked/rooted.
ALL devices (every single one) on 4.4.2 or lower can be rooted.
Search is your friend....
Hello,
I've seen post about VZW and Tmobile how to enable it without the plan. Does anyone know how for AT&T? I assume that it would be like Tmobile.
Thanks
