Yes, it would have been better, but you don't have to make a thread about this...

Well even though it doesn't I've found this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/qi-micro-usb-wireless-charging-adapter-clip-p37404.htm , so technically it could. And appologies.

It doesn't have wireless charging but the dock that comes free with the phone in some areas doesn't need to plug into the phone and must do it wirelessly or via pins just beneath the backing I suppose

There are 2 contacts on the left hand side of the phone which get used with the dock. They are power only - not USB or HDMI. There is *no* wireless charging in this phone.

Nokias wireless charger works with all phones that have NFC, looks like i will be buying that then!
From what I've seen wireless charging is presently a bit dodgy anyway, perhaps Sony are just waiting for the tech to settle down a bit before introducing it. I don't think I'll be going for wireless charging with my N4 any time soon.

I don't think so. It has NFC so that you can launch a task when you put your phone to charge, but it's still based on the Qi wireless charging spec which means the phone has to be compatible too.

just looked in to it, sorry your right, i had read somewere without looking it up. My bad!
@OP: Why would you want wireless charging in the first place? It's just a gimmick it might be nice to have but, when you don't have it you won't miss it either way.
Same with 3d also a gimmick, we can live perfectly without 3d movies etc. Even though 3d movies can be quite nice to see.

wireless charging is not comfortable for daily uses
I had a Droid DNA and hated the wireless charging. For one you have to pay upwards of $25-$50 for a wireless charging pad, charging takes several times longer, the phone/battery get hot while using it, which will probably lead to shortened battery life, and it's not like you can use your phone while wireless charging since if it moves more than a few millimeters off the pad it stops, versus wired where you are limited only to the length of the wire.
Isnt wireless charging jsut putting the phone on a "dock"? Like my cordless phone? or the old nokia's where u had to put it on a charging dock? Ppl behave as those it is sending microwaves to your phone within a certain radius and the phone magically charges...and if it were like that I would be afraid of nuking my insides lol

Exactly my thought. It's wireless, but you have to put your phone on a mat... i really prefer putting my phone on a dock, and the one for Xperia Z is very good because there is no "port" that might go loose with time, just two metal pins that are touching the charger pins.
For those in doubt - here is the dock Sony will release to go with this phone - Not quite wireless charging but nearly. Having seen this it has convinced me to get the phone - the thought of fiddling with the port covers in the dark every night to conect the charger was putting me off (my gf goes to bed before me so I can't put the light on).

I can't confirm, but others on XDA in the G2 forums have used a case with success. Qi technology should not be affected by even the likes of an Otterbox. Search the threads, someone has confirmed it already.
I just got the LG wireless charger from Amazon and it works even with the quick window case flipped back! I'm surprised at how well this charger works.

Verizon LG G2 cradle
I use my phone as a clock and alarm clock at night, so I needed a cradle.
I just got the EZOPower Micro-USB Dock Cradle Desktop SmartPhone Charger for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 III / Galaxy Mega Android Cell Phone from Amazon for $20 after shipping.
Sorry I can't submit a link yet, I'm too new, but copy/paste this into Amazon:
EZOPower Micro-USB Dock Cradle Desktop SmartPhone Charger for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 III / Galaxy Mega Android Cell Phone
It works great, however I don't have a case for the G2 yet. I'll report back when I get a case.
The phone will slow charge when you use the USB cable and AC adapter that were provided with the cradle. But, if you plug the LG USB cable and AC adapter into the cradle, it will fast charge. Also, if you plug the cradle into the LG USB cable and the EZO AC adapter, it will also fast charge.
Hope this helps somebody,
Mike

I'm using a RAM X-grip in my car and it works fantastic.
I just started looking for the same thing again today and found one good candidate;
http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/product/lg-g2-desktop-dock-charging-cradle - supports cases too...
Here's another: http://www.clove.co.uk/konnet-icrado-neo-smartphone-desktop-cradle-black
not my thing but does offer some flexibility if you change phones a lot
Similar to my first one (very similar) from Amazon:

This one is intriguing (also supports big fat cases)

I personally think the iQ stuff is junk.

Feb 12 2014 Update:
I bought two of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390738004029
from China - delivery was slower than some but very average BUT this DOES not work for my D803.
The usb plug is extended to allow for a phone with a (fat) case and therefore when I put my naked phone on it is suspended in the air by the plug outlet. I contacted the seller and in addition to the language barrier they want nothing to do with the problem and, frankly, I don't have time to bicker over $20
Back on the hunt
Old thread but I will chime in. Lg g2 vs980. Using the amazing tylt qi charger. Its not junk at all. Expensive, yes. Down side: daydream only recognizes it charging. Not as a docking station. So it goes in and out of daydream when it goes back and forth between charging states. Looking for a way mod the charger or the phone to address this issue. Chime in if you have an idea. Peace outside!

OK Last one is a fail... apparently there is a LG-G2x and I missed the distinction.
I had the official Samsung dock for my previous Galaxy S4.

It works great on my LG G2 (LS980) in terms of charging but the speaker function is not functional though.
Hello. I recently got a mycharge amp2000 as shown in the photo. I have problems with it charging my moto x. When I plug it in it charges for a second then turns red an stops charging. Now normally this would be a problem with the charger but I have tried it with two other devices including my nexus 4 and it worked perfectly on those. That is why I am concerned it is a problem with my moto x. Any ideas?

I have the same exact problem. My wife and I both have the Verizon Moto X and we each have two external changers. These chargers work fine with our friends' phones and with our Nexus 7s, but they don't work with either of our Moto Xs. I don't seem to see much about this issue around the internet, maybe we just have rare bugs?
Strange. I've tried charging my Moto X in my car the other day and for some reason it refused to charge at all. I think it was because I wasn't using the OEM cable. I don't know but I'm curious if the charging port is just touchy on cables or that certain voltages aren't accepted by this phone.
P.S. My sister charges her phone in my car with the exact same cable almost every morning so there is no problem with it as far as I'm concerned.

One of my other usb cables won't charge the moto x but works fine with other phones, not sure why but it's a longer than normal cable so maybe that has something to do with it. In any case, my moto x charges just fine with the oem cable and a couple other cables I have laying around.

Thanks, I think you're right...just tried one of the externals with the OEM cable and now it's working. I wonder what the difference is, shouldn't a cable just be transferring the power from charger to device? I always thought a cable was a cable and it was the power supplies that differed. Either way, it's obnoxious to always have to carry around the long cord. On of the benefits of external chargers is compact portability.
Only complaint about the Moto X, otherwise this thing is great.
I've used my old HTC cables from the Thunderbolt, Motorola cables for the Xoom, LG cables from some LG phone, and Samsung cables from the S3 and Note 2. All of them work with the wall plug, computers, VZW car charger, and my Jackery charger.
What's the difference between the OEM and other cables? All I've used are OEM-labeled cables but have been looking at a 6ft cable (Monoprice, Amazon brand, Mediabridge or something braided/jacketed) off Amazon.
ive been using a motorola phone for a while now. Idk if it is moto specific or not, but some cables work and some don't. I know on my prior phone some cables would charge but not transfer data. Then some would say on my screen (not a compatible charger or not authorized charger or something). Those wouldn't charge most of the time, but sometimes if i turned the phone on then off or did certain weird things they would end up charging even though the not authorized prompt was still on the phone.
I think it probably has something to do with whether the cable can transfer data correctly for the moto phone. If it can't then it won't charge the phone. never had a problem with higher quality cables or cables that came from high quality phones. Only had problems with no brand name cables or older cables.
my two cents.
Alls I know is I've got a bunch of cables and wall plugs laying around and I just use whatever and it works. I've got cables and wall chargers from Samsung phones and tab, nexus tab, kobo, kindle, Motorola (old flip phone), iPhone (wall plug anyway), a Sony camera, Samsung camera, leapfrog tablet, a car diagnostic computer.....um ....that's all I can think of......and they all work and in any combination. LOL

Seems like very little anticipation for this.
Is it the lack of features people may have hoped for or the price scaring people off?
Seems like if it can be rooted a whole bunch of possibilities open up.

I want one, but waiting to see what interest there is from developers. I have a pebble that I'm pretty happy with. Neptune pine looks good too
Price isn't to much of an issue - it's a new technology, and they are still trying to figure out a good pricepoint. Just light when lcd/plasma screens came out; they were 10's of thousands of dollars
I see a lot of people who were interested using pebbles and Sony. I just thought the Camera function and the syncing features were quite cool in comparison to the others on the market.
I want one, but the price and the proprietary charger are making me think twice.
If the battery life was longer, the charger might not be as big an issue, but if you happen to stay overnight away from home, you can't just plug in any micro USB charger to top up your Gear.
Sony got it right with their 2nd gen smart watch. They switched from a proprietary charger to generic micro USB.

An opening for a micro USB port on the watch would defeat the water resistance feature. I might need to buy a second charging cradle.
The anticipation or potential lack there of is due to the fact that it will only pair with the GN3, GN10.1 2014 Edition and won't work with the GN2, GS3 and GS4 until they all get 4.3. It doesn't work with any other phones which I don't think was smart. Samsung should have made it more open to get more users into it. It could have been a gateway drug into more Samsung sales.

The new Sony watch has a better water proof rating than the Gear, whilst still having a micro USB port.
Same with the Experia Z1.
Maybe Samsung wanted to put some of the charging circuitry in the cradle instead of the watch. Good to reduce weight and size, but not very practical...

It's hard to be sure as there are likely other things that could cause the issue with the cables, but the fact that you mentioned the connector is loose and moving it can stop charging it certainly does seem to be related to the charging port. If the connector were to short I imagine it could draw more juice than the cable is designed for and cause the cable to fail.

If it were me I would look into having it done. I haven't found a phone that I like nearly as much as the Nexus 6 and I just had my battery replaced so I plan on hanging on to the phone for a while. I've read in other posts that there are places found on Ebay that will fix the port for around $30, which to me would be worth the money.
I've have gone through cables like water. It stopped when I spent real money on a replacement cable. I have two Anker nylon braided cables that I use now and all had been fine ever since. The connector is designed to be not durable than the cable end so I would always try a good quality charging cable (sounds like you have) before taking the phone apart.
I'm sure the wear on my charge port makes the use of a good quality cable more important than it was early on.

1. Getting the charging port replaced which is costing 9-10$ here.
2. Sell the phone for 100-120$ and buy new Samsung Galaxy S9+ (but thats too expensive for now, I must wait for it to come down)
