Have you turned on USB Debugging under Settings>Developer Options>Debugging ??
If you haven't, then turn it on and then try rooting :silly:

Tried Connecting the USB cable to some other free USB port in your computer??
Or you could try uninstalling the drivers under Device manager...and then reconnecting the USB cable..:fingers-crossed:
By the way, i followed DoomLord tutorial to root the phone. Is it possible to "unroot" the phone then ? Without losing the change ?
In fact i needed to be root to change a system file to fix wifi

Turn on USB debugging, while connecting your device to system, reboot it without disconnecting. Also if it prompt for RSA key access check always allow this computer and accept it....

Can you give details as to what computer/os you are running?
Does it charges when you plug the phone into the computer?
With or without developer mode enabled, your computer should still respond to the phone. If it doesn't then the problem is the computer.

Yeah its charging. Drivers tried installing but it says that it was not successfully installed. It also shows as unknown device.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. It can detect fine back when it was stock. The problem only showed up after I installed PAC rom
The drivers can be corrupted for no good reason try deleting and re-installing.

Can't use MTP or Camera mode (at least on my linux box I can't). All I know is adb doesn't work and that's the only reason I have to plug into usb...I unmount my sd and plug it into my PC to do file transfers (or adb push from recovery)...adb does work in recovery, just not the system.

I had this problem.
Step 1: Enter system Settings>Developer options.
Step 2: Tick "Android debugging", "USB debugging notify" (makes it easier to know if connection is successful), and change the "Root acess" setting to "Apps and ADB".
Step 3: Reboot Phone and connect to computer.
This is what I did and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps

Hi guys
Really need urgent help on this one
I wanted to update my nexus 6 to latest5.0.1.
Usually i flash factory images but this time i tried to sideload. This is what i did.
I wanted to factory reset my phone and wipe everything and then side load. so i used TWRP and wiped by mistake the android OS. Now im left with nothing but twrp which also deleted my recovery file.
Now i can access my bootloader and twrp.
My main problem is that when i plug my phone to my pc it does not recognize it and i tried every possible way suggested by NRT tool to update my driver and no luck?
When i plug it to the pc it charges and i get baloon message that pc did not recognized the device.
Im using original cable.
Any help is really appreciated
Thanks

Debugging is both impossible and useless.
Can't set USB debugging if android is not installed. USB debugging only works in android anyway. It has no affect on bootloader or recovery

I'd uninstall, then reinstall, or try the universal ones.

Hi guys
Check the attachment
And let me know if u found the problem.
I've been trying to get a ROM on my nexus 6, but as I go to unlock the bootloader, I enable usb debugging but get no prompt to authorize my computer's RSA Fingerprint. Any Ideas would be helpful. I've Tried all different combinations of connections (MTP+USB Debugging, etc.), and it still will not prompt me to authorize it. Thanks.
Have you tried Nexus Root Toolkit? I used that back in January to unlock and root my Nexus 6.

Reboot the device. Set switches for USB debug and bootloader unlock. Plug in phone. If don't work there a driver problem. If see your drive on PC don't worry about it. If it sees adb and/or fastboot don't worry about it. Don't use toolkit unless already know how to fastboot. If it screws up you are screwed cause don't know what happened.

For those who happen across this thread but cannot be bothered to read the link above, here is a little note. You do NOT need USB Debugging to unlock the bootloader. USB Debugging is an ANDROID setting, for use in Android. It has no effect on what happens to USB connections made in the bootloader or recovery.
EDIT> Actually that thread says you do need it. You do not.

For that thread no you do not need it if boot into the bootloader manually. For others that use the adb reboot bootloader command you will need it.

I know you said you already did, but uninstall every android driver you find on your PC. Then connect your nexus, while booted to android and let drivers install. Then disconnect, boot your nexus into bootloader, and reconnect again to install fastboot drivers.
So basically I searched everywhere and found many people with this issue.
I tried everything everyone said.
From installing the drivers, to turning on developer mode.
Also fastboot mode is not working.
I hope my is not a hardware issue. I tried a new cable with the same results.
Anything else I can try?
I have been using FTP to transfer files but I want to root my phone and I can't.

The last time I read about someone having a similar problem it was resolved by using an original cable. But I can't find the thread where this was discussed.

Just to rule it out, after you connect your cable are you seeing the Notification with USB options and have you selected 'Data Transfer', (or whatever it's called)?
If you are seeing the Notification and the PC still can't see the device, uninstall whatever Drivers and ADB packages you currently have installed. Download the ADB package from Google and, when prompted, say 'yes' to installing the Drivers.
Make sure you try all your available USB ports.
Are there any Yellow exclaimation marks in Device Manager? Do you have the most recent Motherboard drivers from your Manufacturers website?

If you have a can of compressed air, try blowing out the USB port. There may be debris up there. It does sound like a Hardware problem. You really need to try it on another PC to know for sure.

So, I still have this issue and I wasn't able to solve it. Pretty much the phone only charges, doesn't get recognized by any computer. I also tried my laptop and same thing happens. How do I find out if it's a hardware issue?

You can connect your PC to your phone without cables using ADB over wifi provided your phone is rooted and on the same wifi network as your PC.
I know this won't solve your hardware problem but it does allow you to move files between your PC and your phone using ADB.
Note that this doesn't work in recovery or fastboot modes.
Here's how:
On the phone using Terminal
su
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555
stop adbd
start adbd
On the PC in a command terminal
adb connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555
...
adb disconnect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the phone's IP address
To set the phone back to normal (optional)
On the phone
su
setprop service.adb.tcp.port -1
stop adbd
start adbd

You could also try using flash drive via OTG. This won't help you connect to PC/Laptop in any way, but could at least progress a bit that the phone hardware is okay for data part.
This problem start again , fortunelly im in nougat so if i go to dev options and change the usb charging to mtp his comes to charging again . I think this is the problem , the phone dont comes to mtp so dont "have" a device in windows to connect , with this im unable to make root and do anything in fastboot because my phone lock to usb only for charge
