A while back, I tried to flash Arrgghh's latest CM 10.2 kernel (Aug 21) on CM 10.2 ROM. I ended up with a black screen on reboot, and now I'm a bit wary about flashing it. I didn't clear Cache and Dalvik Cache beforehand though, is that reason why? I've been wanting to flash this kernel on a lot of the 4.3 ROMs but I'm kinda scared after the last time and need some clarification. BTW, I got the kernel off of the Photon Q 4G LTE thread. Also, under what conditions can a custom kernel hard brick your phone? I was under the impression that kernel flashing can't hard brick, just fastboot a different boot.img, right?
I'm running it fine on the latest pac.

Where did you download the kernel from? If it works on PAC it should work on any other 4.3 ROM, right?

As long as none of the versions of his CM 10.2 kernel are able to hard brick my phone, i'll try out different ones and see which I can get to boot.
New Aug 31 build of the kernel is running just fine for me, Wheatley governor is great!

I'm on the Icy Glitch V14 Kernel at the moment with AOKP ICS Milestone 6.
My current plan is to install the first Milestone release of AOKP JB.
Does anyone know the best kernel to use with JB? I'd like to know the person opinions of a few people, thanks.
Basically I want the most stable possible, with good speed. I don't really want any overclocking though,
Then just use aokp stock kernel that come with it I don't think there any over clocking in it

How do I flash the stock kernel? It's not when just flashing a zip file in the recovery because I had this Icy Glitch kernel BEFORE I ever flashed AOKP and I still have it after AOKP.
Do I just extract the boot.img out of the rom zip and flash it with fastboot?
OK what you need to find out is what is jb stock kernel on jb aokp then you find that kernel they should have a flash zip then go in to recovery and flash it I think they are using cm 10 stock kernel am not for sure tho

That's because glitch was the kernel for aokp. I think you'd be fine staying with the stock kernel. Also, this device doesn't have fastboot.

Oh lol my bad I knew that. I was super tired yesterday haha. I use Odin right?
And wow I didn't realize glitch was the kernel for AOKP. Knowing that makes a lot of sense now.
Just to be sure though... Just flashing the new AOKP will install the new kernel with it correct?

Well no, you probably won't need Odin, only CWM. But yeah, roms always come with their own kernel.

This is an unofficial Jellybean 4.1.2 AOKP build for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-T879. Its compiled straight from aokp git sources with the only change being adding support for quincytmo kernel configs. Its extremely fast, smooth, and stable.
Installation Instructions:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Flash Rom with twrp2
3. Flash Gapps
4. Profit!
What works:

I was also on paranoid's ROM before. As for Kim's comments I'm not sure as to why he couldnt get it to boot... My recommendation is to backup your current ROM, and give my AOKP a flash. Its easy to go back just recover with twrp2.
LMK what you find.

Sounds like you're s=on.
Here is the boot.img from this AOKP build - use this. It will fix your wifi issues.
liam821.com/aokp/boot.img
You can also find the boot.img inside the ROM zipfile.
So...
Do a factory wipe/wipe cache, flash the aokp rom, then install the boot.img with odlin after all that. It should boot then! LMK if it works out for you.
thanks!
liam
So I was finally able to install this.
I couldn't use the boot.img above with odin. odin would only take .tar files and I couldn't figure out how to convert it.
I kept getting the boot loop. What I ended up doing was. I installed the "ps_quincy' rom from another thread. Then I backed up only the boot file. I went back installed
this rom and restored only the boot file from the other Rom. I'm very new to this so there may be a easier way but its def worth the hassle i'm loving
this rom.
Saved for later

The new touch cwm works real good and I run PACMAN.
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX
My current favourite is HoloBlur with PurePerformance. The battery life is quite good, it's fast, and stable.
I run CWM touch recovery.
For ROMs: HoloBlur X (PurePerformance) is a beatiful stock based ROM to get your feet wet.
CM 10.2 and BeanStalk 4.3 are the 2 best custom ROMs I have ever had the pleasure of using. Carbon is great but the battery life just isn't up to par with BeanStalk or CM for me, plus since Carbon jumped ship to 4.3, a lot of features don't work like Trebuchet settings and PIE. PACman 4.3 is awesome but I would wait for a new nightly from Skeevy that reports better battery. As it is now, it is too laggy and unstable to use everyday (for me at least). Don't even mess with Uxylon or SLIM, play store and mobile data are broken on those.
If you don't mind freezes/crashes once in a while, you could run CM10.2 nightlies and automatically update them using Cyandelta. If you want to go CM nightlies, use CWM 3.0.3.4 (in the last 2-3 pages of the 3.0.3.2 thread) but if you're going to use PAC or Holoblur, you can use CWM 3.0.3.6 touch.
