Hello,
I'm having a problem right now with my htc one.
One night, I installed es file manager and stream music, video and other stuff through my windows 7 pc over lan/wifi share. Everything is great. Then, some time later, I try again and my phone either simply say failed or the apps sit there saying "loading".
I have 2 htc one running both latest stock telus rom. I launch es file manager on the other phone, it work flawlessly. I tried uninstalling es file manager, installing other apps that claim it can access samba share, nothing work. They are both on same wifi network, using same username/pass (even anonymous that I activated for testing), one of them still won't connect.
Is there known program that could do that? I had the same problem with my one x+ in the past, and my other phone as well.
Thanks

I would like to know what is the quickest way to root a HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1? I started out on "bluetooth file transfer" by "medieval" from the market, and I am trying to get other devices to connect with mine, and the error message says that I DO NOT have root permissions, anyways I went to the help section and it sent me to an "android" development forum, and it had a pretty simple way to do it,get "astro file manager" (got it) get flash recovery (I did), and get a ROM, they suggested "cyanogen" (I downloaded CM3.6.8.1). I have yet to do anything till I finish researching this, and just a few moments ago, I googled DMD64&firmware v1.6, and this was one of the results... can anyone help me on this? I am not a developer, and I am completely clueless about much of this. My main goal is to have other non-android and "dumb" phones be able to connect to my phone via bluetooth, like my mom's Motorola QA30 (HINT), so that she can send me contact files, because if she just sends the files via SMS, they never come thru.
Use this. It's not too bad to do, and it won't take you more then 20-30 minutes to do. And download 4.2.15.1 instead of the 3.6.X, its the most current. Follow the steps, and ask here if you get lost or need help
Is that the QUICKEST? I just want my G1 to have "root permissions" like it asks for on medieval's "bluetooth file transfer" app. I just want any other phone, smart or not, to be able to connect with my device, and to recognize it as a cellular phone, not a "misc. Bluetooth device", so that I can get a contacts list or any other file sent from ANY other phone....
this is a faster method, but i used the one i linked to above ( you only need to root once, so whats the point of trying other methods?)
I just moved from an iPad WiFi to the DS7 for use in my work. The smaller size of the DS7, FLASH, and the camera sold me. I have read everything I can find (untold hours) here and elsewhere trying to solve my issues, with not a lot of luck. I even called Dell Mobile Support. I did get some help from a nice lady in Texas, but my second call was a waste. Anyway, on to the issues at hand.
1. Dell sync sucks! Life with the ipad was wonderful in this regard as iTunes syncs perfectly with outlook and IE9. I have installed MyPhoneExplorer and it does get the job done, except for IE9 bookmarks. Any help on this? Any other sync app that you use to do this better?
2. DS7 will not recognize adhoc WiFi networks without rooting and installing new files. I use my TP2 with the HTC mobile WiFi router app for wireless on the go. Again, no problems with the iPad or laptop just DS7. Anybody know of a Wmo router app that creates a regular network?
3. FroYo 2.2.2 can't be rooted (see above fix needed). I have read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084526
If I understand this correctly, this is a way to root 2.2.2? After this is done then can I mod the files to get the adhoc issue fixed?
I would rather change the router app on my phone while the DS7 is still in warranty. I have only had it a week, but I would really like to have WiFi on the go. The lady at Dell told me that these problems were Google mandates for the OS. I guess Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are better friends than Michael Dell and Sergie!
Thanks to those of you with the knowledge to make our devices work better for us.

problems solved, partly
I got brave and rooted the Streak following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084526
No problems, quick and easy. I downloaded the Super Manager app from the market for making changes. After playing around to figure it out (not at all like Windows) I made changes to the wpa_supplicant and can now connect to my phone's wifi! Hint to those new like me: I downloaded the wpa file to my laptop and unzipped it then copied into the dowload folder on the Streak via USB. I tried to download to the Streak and open/copy/paste with no luck. I also changed the phone files mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123249
I renamed them to .old and left them where they were. I now have a cell signal bar with an "x" over it and no power usage in the status.
One issue that I now have under settings/about/status, I get an error message that process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly with a "force close" button. Is this a product of Clockworkmod?
I installed Task Killer and it works fine, but I thnk I need a start-up manager to keep apps from starting until I need them. Any suggestions?

I'm running with CWM and I don't get that force close issue, for what it's worth.
Task managers are a mixed bag on FroYo+ devices, but they're generally not needed. I used to use one because I thought that, coming from a Windows world, if an app is under running services it's taking up battery and processor resources. This isn't the case with Android. Try running without your task manager for a while and see if you get better performance and battery life; I certainly did. The only thing I use a TM for now is to kill a bunch of apps prior to running something extremely memory intensive, like Galaxy on Fire 2 or a benchmark test (but this has very little practical value in day to day usage).
You can find a CPU usage monitor instead of a task killer; those are much better. Look for apps that use a lot of processor that you don't want to and uninstall them (products of poor coding). But as for memory management (aka task killers), you're almost always better served just letting Android do its thing.
I found the problem on the status issue. By renaming the phone files it created an issue. I have not tried moving them. Not sure if it really was that important since not much is under the status anyway.
Thanks for the info on the task manager. I installed Super Manger because that was recommended in one of the threads to edit and make changes after root. I installed Advanced Task Killer after much reading as well. I notice that when I kill task the available memory increases a lot. There seems to be too much BS that just starts on its own, thats why I thought a startup manager would help. Again, I am windows oriented I suppose.
First of all, my HTC One is not rooted. My PC has Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit.
Here is how my problem started (the phone not being seen problem may have existed prior to this). I connected my phone to my computer (a sound played during connection). Autostart opened Windows Explorer showing the phone storage. I double clicked to find the folder where my videos were. I right clicked the video I wanted to transfer to my PC, chose 'cut', right clicked the desktop and chose 'paste'. The video disappeared from the folder on the phone, but was not on the desktop. I refreshed the desktop, but the file still did not appear.
I restarted both the PC and the phone. Tried reconnecting and started getting notifications in the taskbar 'installing drivers', as if the phone's driver's had been uninstalled. The driver installation failed. I tried a Windows update and found updates available, but the installation failed (code 800F020B). I ran System File Checker and repeated the above, but the update failed. Strangely though, if I opened Explorer, the phone showed up (however on some occasions it didn't).
I therefore installed 'Undelete 360'. Tried to access the phone to retrieve files, but the program couldn't see the phone (even though I could access files via explorer). I thought it may be the software, so I tried 'Remo Recover', but the same happened again.
I have also tried uninstalling drivers (unknown device in Device Manager) and restarting, but to no avail.
I have the latest version of HTC Sync Manager installed, but this program seems to be of no use.
The phone is in USB debugging mode and when attached to the PC is showing 'MTP Enabled' (I can't find anyway to change this). Android version 4.3. The only other noticeable problem on the phone is that HTC Sync, which was supposed to be in sync with Gmail, is hsowing 'Sync Off' and I can't switch it back on.
I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this. My objective is to retrieve the video files I tried to 'cut' and 'paste'.
You probably can't get the file back, sorry. The device connects with MTP which does not support the required low-level operations. I highly doubt an app from the Play store would work, but its your best bet.
In future you'd be better off copying and then deleting.

Thanks for your reply Ben. That's bad news.
So the fact that it only connects with MTP means that the device may not be visible in certain circumstances and I'll have to live with that. This doesn't explain why from time to time when I connect the phone, my PC starts to install drivers and sometimes the instillation fails. There seems to be something else afoot.
I'm on firmware VTR-L29 8.0.0.367(C185)
NFC sharing worked for me before. Last time I tried sending files through ES explorer to a Samsung device, it hung up. After that I'm not able to share anything using NFC Huawei Beam, even pics from galleries. I instantly get the error "Beam is busy..." (screenshot attached)
What I tried till now:
Restarting Phone several times.
Uninstalling ES Explorer
I'm trying my best to fix this without formatting the phone.
Hi,
So i found Sony Ericsson Arc (LT15a) running ice cream sandwich 4.0.4. Which surprisingly still worked.
Poking around i see i had deleted most of the apps, but the app i had used to save my texts was gone. It took a while, but it eventually connected to my local wifi. This is where the problems started
First, it doesn't recognise my google password for that account. actually, it's more complicated than that, it recognised it once and sent a text to my current phone asking if that was me, once i confirmed it. It asked me to log in again and ever since says my password is wrong. So i can't sync nor download anything through the play store or my account
I dug around online and found a syncing program that would install via the USB cable. unfortunately, it seems like the program was bigger than the 60mb i had free. so i have a half-downloaded program that i can't find and delete. i've cleared many caches via the apps menu, but phone storage seems to be almost full despite the fact i've deleted the majority of apps i downloaded.
I then tried the Xperia companion, hoping for something. i tried a software repair which again, only made things worse. i now randomly experience "android is updating" but it doesn't seem to change anything.
The one that really stumps me is i can't view the file directory through my pc. This makes me wonder if the apk it tried to install never worked anyway and that the phone has been trying to download something once it connected to my wifi. The light plugged in is orange, meaning it's only charging. At one point the phone was recognised by the computer but putzing around seems to have screwed that.
i'm literally only trying to pull the text messages off this thing. i can't believe i've tried to jump through so many hoops. Many links i found were dead and I'm kind of stuck Any help would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime I'm trying to find an older laptop I had that may still have the old companion software installed
Try this:
MyPhoneExplorer Client - Apps on Google Play

I'm unable to download, since it's not recognising my google login and so i can't access the google play store.
And i only have 4.3 mb free until i get rid of the half-installed/downloaded items
Sorry, i realised that's also a desktop app. But i still have the same problem. connecting via bluetooth or wifi requires you to have the app on your phone, which i can't do
And the computers i have access to aren't detecting it. it could be a driver issue, but i don't know where to find a safe driver that old

You can download apk files from mirrors to the reader with microSDHC and install from the microSDHC placed in the phone.
