Apparently Google announced the next version of android will not be key lime pie 5.0, instead Google plans to launch KitKat 4.4 and they seem to partner up with Nestle and will be coming out with a special edition kitkat with a chance to win a nexus probley with 4.4 I assume. Here's the kicker like the movie willy wonka they will be placing golden tickets in a few selected bars. What changes will 4.4 have or when will it be releases is still up in the air yet but I'm sure Google will announce there big changes by the holidays.

Never heard of Meego? And you're calling yourself a geek/nerd. GTFO!
i think LG Meego handset will come first before this Nokia N9.
But seriously i m amazed by this Design, first time By Nokia.
As we all know How much hype created during N8 this seems far more better than N8
this will decrease Nokia's Falling reputation.
Best of Luck Nokia.

Meego is an Open Source Project and some developer has already
ported Meego on Nexus One and other devices with snapdragon processor similar to Nexus one .
Its a dead horse, but nokia tries to ride it...
I have to admit that it looks pretty good, too bad it comes out so late.

Agree, but Android won't happen. WP7 on the other hand would be better than MeeGo - much better.

The problem with Nokia is that it's too stubborn and old fashioned. Good they signed a contract with Microsoft though, at least they have one REAL OS on their smartphones.

Methinks that I might consider it if it comes in silver, and Android. It's MeeGo, how hard would it be to flash a new ROM?
I guess it'll be pretty easy. But time will tell!

I completely agree. That was my first thought when watching this video. If it doesn't have an ample amount of apps available to users, it'll go no where even if it is a fantastic phone.
MeeGo doesn't really matter. When the phone comes out, the main question will be "When will somebody put CyanogenMod 7 on it?" Notice I didn't use "how" or even "why". It's a when. And WHEN that floodgate opens... we just might have a bonafide camera phone.

I had a Nokia N900 for a while. Good phone, really good developer community. It's just a shame that they've stuck so firmly to their own OSs for so long. If they're going to go WP7 that's a step in the right direction but android would win them a lot of good favour.

IMO it's much easier to write apps for MeeGo than Android. MeeGo uses the cross-platform (read: porting of desktop KDE apps to the mobile has already started) Qt Framework, which has a really nice API (Qt Mobility espacially for smartphones). It's really a joy to use this toolkit. All your developed applications can run on your desktop OS (Linux, Windows, Mac OS) and on your phones and tablets (Android, MeeGo, iOS port is currently developed..).
I'd love to see a port of this OS to some (more) Android phones. I tried to run it under my Desire HD, but I can't get the software rendering to work.

Hello there,
I am using my HTC Desire with android for nearly two years now and I really like it. I've installed a lot of apps in this time and I noticed, that some of the apps have a really strong IOS influenced look, even if they're android only.
So what do you all think about that?
Cheers
Yes they do. Lots of average people choose Android because that lots of their devices are cheap. That is why lots of apps have an iOS feel and look
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I would have to say no. Alot of people choose android because they don't like apple at all. The main people that use IOS looking apps and roms are normally new smartphone users.
That or people who appreciate decent design... even a design aesthetic.
It's a trait /many/ android apps (and sometimes the OS in general) appears to lack.
That's the great thing about android. You can make it look anyway you want. I mean sure alot of people like the iPhone look I guess but most hardcore android users don't. Personally I don't like how IOS looks at all. Everytime I see it it makes me think of my kids toys.

So basically we are too cheap to buy iPhones ?
If that is what you want to imply, then I call BS (if not I apologize).
For me it's a difference of philosophies between the two companies, and even though iOS is at times easier to use or at least more accessible for new smartphone-users, it's not the system for me.

Yeah and you can get an iPhone for less then that as well. It all comes down to what you want.
A good number of interesting upgrades and enhancements were announced at the opening day of the Google I/O conference, but I am very surprised how wrong the Technology press was with their predictions regarding 2nd gen Nexus 7, Babel, Android 4.3, etc.
Additional announcements are possible, but I doubt it.
Maybe these reporters/bloggers just make stuff up to drive traffic to their sites to bump up ad revenue.
Who ever these tech reporters were getting their info from must have zero cred now. I guess its time for them to cultivate new sources.

I don't know, the leaks surrounding the iPhone 5 were for the most part pretty bang on. Same with other Apple products, and they are known for their secrecy. I agree that the rumors were way off, even considering that they were just...well...rumors. Maybe 4.3 is coming soon, who knows...

Uhhh no, the first rumors for the iPhone 5 were way off. The iPhone 5 was supposed to have a totally revamped design with a larger screen and a rounder design. Instead we got the iPhone 4S which looked exactly like the iPhone 4 and it wasn't until next year that the iPhone 5 came out.

I think Apple leaks a lot of their stuff out so people aren't disappointed which would cause their stock price to go down. I think Google's stock price is actually based in reality and not speculation like Apples (this is why Apple's dropped 50% in the last couple months).
An upgraded Nexus 7 was impractical I think just from a cost benefit perspective. I don't think there was any chance of KLP coming out when a lot of people just got JB upgrades.
I do like a lot of the developer stuff that was announced. I am so happy that there is now a way to beta and alpha test apps and app updates both from a dev and user perspective.
You can't really compare "early" leaks of the iPhone to leaks just days before Google I/O. By the time the iPhone was released, the tech sites had the iPhone 5 pegged.

Who knows if the sites got bad Intel or made stuff up to get hits or maybe they was right but Google ran in to snags and the stuff wasn't ready and they didn't want to release stuff that wasn't ready yet. In the end it doesn't really matter and like they say if you want to know the truth get it from the horses mouth. You can tell Google has something planned when they phased out the 16 gig nexus. It was like when they phased out the 8 gig version when the 32 gig came out. I hope they come out with a CDMA version of the nexus 4. I know its a pipe dream after what Verizon did to the galaxy nexus. Its interesting to see what Google has planned for the near future.

The Nexus 7 seems fairly likely and 4.3 is bound to hit at some point (especially given the leak of the Google Play Edition ROM). I'm just hoping this isn't another example of what they did at Google I/O (announcing the new Maps for Android 2 months before actual release) and with the Google Play Edition phones (saying they will come on June 27 only for that to be the pre-order date). I just don't want to wait excitedly for next Wednesday only for them to mention that the Nexus 7 will be on the Play Store in 3 weeks and Android 4.3 will be released on that day.

I doubt Moto X will be mentioned. Motorola is its own division and Pichai doesn't really have anything to do with it. Guy Kawasaki had the recent intimate event with the press that Leo Laporte, Robert Scoble, etc. were invited to. However, Kawasaki actually serves as an advisor to Motorola, so that makes sense. The leaked videos of Moto X show something close to stock, but it's still skinned; unless a Google Play Experience version is released, I wouldn't expect it to come up at all.
It's still pretty new but I was wondering what if anybody has seen Android Auto?
What do you think of it?
Do you think it's better/worse than Apple's CarPlay?
It seems pretty cool from a developer's standpoint - you can actually create apps to use in the car!
I've seen demonstrations of both at the Chicago Auto Show. To me, I don't see why you would compare one to the other. I think early adopters that are going to want this at this point in time are well established in the ecosystem of their choice and they are going to pick the one that matches their ecosystem.
Well i just have to say it... The design of carplay is catastrophic compared to auto... There i had to put that out
I haven't seen it in person, but it looks pretty good in my opinion.

I agree that people who are well established in their ecosystems will pick one over there other -- but is that really good for innovation? It seems like we aren't really pushing to develop new interactions but rather trying to shove the same ideas into a car ecosystem... just a thought

The pioneer head unit supports fully both AA and Carplay. Either way, it's a win, win for me. I've been using sync up until now, and unfortunately many of my mobile/auto apps do not work as expected with the new lollipop. So far I am impressed. How developers will use this should be interesting. My phone as always been part of my car so most things are already out there for use, but who knows what other great features have been overlooked and are waiting for creative development.
