[Q] HELP with bootlooping please - Sprint HTC One (M7)

So I was trying out different ROMS on my HTC ONE with sprint. But now no matter what rom i try, it bootloops withing less then a minute. I have even tried the most stable version of cyan... I do not have s-off.... This is my first HTC root and never had to mess with that in the past ... could this be my issue? and if so... how can i get s-off when i cant keep the phone on for longer then a minute

List of ROMs you installed while "trying out different ROMs". Nine to ten odds you accidentally grabbed something out of the international forums.
Either way, you will likely need to RUU to stock.

More information please. Are you rooted? Do you have a custom recovery? Which is it? Have you tried to access your recovery? If you can get into recovery, you can flash a new ROM, if you have one in memory. If not, you can sideload one. And as the guy above posted, what ROMs have you tried to flash so far? You cannot flash any ROM that does not specifically say m7spr in the title. Ours is a different device, regardless of how they are the same hardware.

Incorrect. S-ON and custom works fine as long as you're not trying to make changes to /system during runtime.

Which to me is essentially the same as saying "a case is not necessary to your phone until you smash your phone." Bad flashes do happen, I'll admit that, but they're rarer than they used to be. Flashing the wrong ROM has basically always been a cause for problems, and people need to take more care not to do it to begin with.

Wow, talk about hyperbolic exaggeration. I'm well aware that people are being idiots and flashing GSM ROMs, but if you don't know what you're doing you're just as likely to screw up getting S-OFF or fail to do an RUU. The point is that no amount of precautionary measures are going to save someone from carelessness.

Magical S-Off

Hi,
I am in no way a dev, but this seems to be the best place to post this...
I have never done the wire trick or used Juopunutbaer software.
However, I recently noticed that my boot loader/hboot screen displays S-Off. What does this mean?
More importantly, I am wondering if it might have to do with WCX recovery, in which case, S-Off got a whole lot easier...
I am posting this semi-question because I think the Devs can use this information to good ends.
Cheers,
Please don;t ban me,

There have been a few of these phones in the wild with S-Off, it probably came like that and you didn't notice before now.
How can I screen cap HBOOT screen?
And the weird thing is, I don't believe it has S-OFF. I tried to flash a rom, and it gets stuck in boot animation until I fasboot flash boot.img...
Any thoughts on this?

[Answerd] S-OFF ???

Ive been looking around for s-off instructions and all im finding is Moonshine. Is this the only method available? Thanks

I mean no offense by this but if you need a one click method, then maybe s-off isn't for you. There are plenty of maybes that come with s-off. With revone all it takes is a few commands in terminal emulator. Takes about 3 minutes.

You assume too much. I have no problem flashing and what not. I originally rooted my Evo with the original root methods. That took 45 minutes. I knew/know the risks associated.
The reason I am waiting for the 1 click is that is a refined process, meaning they have all or the majority of the bugs worked out. I could honestly care less about brioking my phone. My insurance plan gives me a new phone whenever I want with no deductible...I just don't want to go through the process. By the time 1 click is ready, the development community will have progressed to the point where most ROMs are fully functioning. At this point, flashing would be for flashing sake. I am past that point.
We probably won't have a one click.
How can we all help make life easier for you.... Read the instructions, don't ask questions and if thinking it can be made easier, do it and then share.

When i tried the Revone it wouldnt run in terminal dont know why, just wouldnt. Iwas kinds leary about the moonshine method, was readng that people were having difficulty. Further reading i noticed that the ones that had the best results were the ones that were bone stock (unlocked and rooted of course). Give it a shot man. Read the last couple pages of the thread. Alotta good info there.
If you do get stuck where it says Moonshining<1> .....................etc. just manually reboot your phone and it'll finish. Hope this helped. Later ,,,,,,
Try the Moonshine and make sure to do a manual reboot through the stages - its really simple.

Hey everyone I'm new to HTC one, got a couple questions

I am gonna root this later this week when I have spare time. I wad wondering what's the best time available and any useful mods or something that may be required or anything I should stay away from. I'm use to the Samsung galaxy from s2, s3, and s4 so this phone is like a whole new world for me lol.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't know what you mean by "best time available"
You should stay away from roms and kernels from the International HTC One board (Includes T-Mobile, At&t, Verizon), unless your 100% sure that it supports Sprint.
Do not wipe Internal Data in your custom recovery (kinda obvious but some people still manage to do it.)
that's pretty much it for the don'ts I think...
I would recommend the latest TWRP recovery, ViperOne 3.2 RC2 (even though it might have a few bugs, it has mods up the butt and it's my personal favorite rom.)
And lastly, RUU's are your best friend when your having huge problems with your One or just want to go back to stock; Its sorta like Odin :good:
P.S. Even though its not required, I would recommend achieving S-Off while there is still a working method.
Lol sorry on the good time part.. I meant best roms. phone autocorrects me all the time. Only had the phone for about 10 hours now so I doesn't know my typing. I ended up having the iPhone 5 for like 2 months.. needed something new. I remember using RUU on HTC eco shift but that was a long time ago lol. Thank you for the info

this is why these BEST threads are frowned upon, I actually prefer philz cwm recovery and would say steer away from viperone because of the bugs. ecliptic one is literally flawless. see everybody has a preference. best advise is to read everything you can handle and find something that has the feature YOU desire. definitely get s-off, no custom kernels, and as previous post stated keep ur flashing to sprint threads only. there are a few roms in international thread, just read carefully and confirm sprint support! Bigdaddy619 is a wealth of knowledge, check out his faq's thread at the top of q&a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277892

I've been rocking the Google play edition Rom by team nocturnal and I love it. Very stable.
Learn and become familiar with how to root, flash, etc and most importantly RUU.
And most importantly read read read... I try to make it a habit to read posts for like an hour or so before doing anything to my phones even tho I've been doing this since the HTC hero days.

If you're on the latest HBOOT, which is 1.55 I bellieve, then use rumrunner http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496687. I dont think revone has been updated in a while

ok so Rumrunner is not working. ive redownloaded it on 2 PC's and it ends up saying i need to download a updated package on rumrunner. any tips would be awesome.
I think you need adb and fastboot working. And one windows 8.1 had had problems getting the duvets for those working. I'm not sure if there is a fix or workaround for it add I am still on windows 7. But that might help with your tracking down the problem.

HTC One (M8) Assistance

Hi guys, I'm long time reader first time poster. I usually like to blaze my own trails, but I think it's time I got some help. I have a HTC One (M7), it is or was rooted. running android 4.3. It's an O2 Ireland phone. Any other details you need quiz me!
The problem I am having is that I have wiped the OS off the phone (foolishly) while playing around TWRP. I have been trying to sideload a stock ROM (4.4.2 stock T-Mobile) onto my device in attempt to save the day, alas could not.
I won't try to pretend like I know what I'm doing, infact I know very little about android... So.
Could some kind individual please step me through what I need to do before I do more damage? Thanks in advance!

If you don't care about loosing your data, flash an RUU which will re-install your OS, but wipe everything else. Your title says M8, but your post says M7. If you have an M8, just use an sdcard to put the tmobile rom zip on and flash it using twrp. If you have an M7, that isn't an option.
Just search around for instructions and downloads for the RUU files.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. I have an M7. That is why this is sort of above my skill level. Backups never bother me. As for RUUs? Does it have to be an O2 RUU for my O2 phone or can it just be an RUU of another network? I'm finding it hard to get my hands on the particular one I need. Yeah you do need to flash the RUU that has the same CID (carrier) as your phone. This works if you're on O2.

HTC ONE M7 Custom ROM issues

I have been using this forum for years and just now am posting for the first time.
I have a HTC ONE M7 originally from ATT that I used rum runner about a year ago to flash android HD which worked on the TMobile network about a year. Last month my phone went into bootloop and I could not flash a new rom or put any data on the internal storage at all. Long story short I used mkfs.ext4 to remount the data and no I can flash roms with no problem.
The issue I am having is that any rom(cyanogenmod,Viper,Android HD by Mike 1986) I flash just bootloops and wont load EXCEPT PAC-MAN pac_m7-lp-mr1-official-20150611.zip plus gapps. This load and run like a normal rom except the dialer doesn’t work, no sound, no video. It’s basically useless as far as doing anything other than playing a games and sending text messages. One more thing cyanogenmod will load but keeps resetting setup and if I push really fast I can get past the set up but will reset before i can really do anything.
I’m pretty much stumped at this point and any help is appreciated. Also my phone is S-On and using TWRP. Thanks advance.

it's about the unsecured bootloader. *Htc *won't allow the phone to install unsecured... IE: non htc signed firmware, *if the bootloader is secured. So, *if you are installing a modified htc firmware, *it's okay.. But when you go to install aosp, *htc doesn't recognize that as legitimite firmware. Quoted from a dev that makes both sense and gpe/aosp roms. Go argue with him.

Because you are giving incorrect information which could confuse the OP of this thread, even if I know you have good intentions and only wants to help him. Giving clarifications to avoid confusion is a contribution.

it's about the unsecured bootloader. *Htc *won't allow the phone to install unsecured... IE: non htc signed firmware

Right, you can't install an unsigned firmware on a s-on (secured) bootloader but a ROM is not a firmware. A rom is only flashing on the /system /data and /radio partitions which can easily be flashed with whatever you want as long as you have an unlocked bootloader, there is no htc signature needed to flash these partitions (and the recovery partition). Anyway, the signature verification is disabled when you unlock the bootloader (hence why you need to relock the bootloader if flashing a firmware or RUU on a S-ON phone)
The firmware contain the hboot, adsp, secondary bootloaders, drivers, etc... The official firmware is signed with HTC key and can be flashed on a S-ON phone + locked or re-locked bootloader. An unofficial/modded firmware (firmware is not a rom) can only be flashed on a S-OFF phone.
So in short, you don't need S-OFF to flash a rom, a recovery or a radio. These partitions are not secured.
*if the bootloader is secured. So, *if you are installing a modified htc firmware
*it's okay.. But when you go to install aosp, *htc doesn't recognize that as legitimite firmware. Quoted from a dev that makes both sense and gpe/aosp roms. Go argue with him.

I'll be more than happy to talk with this dev. You have probably misinterpreted what he said.
depends on how the dev signed the rom.

No...
Btw not trying to be rude with you and I hope you understand the difference between firmware/roms S-OFF/S-ON now. If not clear I'll be happy to answer your questions.
Now back to the OP
@insanitey1 can you post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (don't post your imei/sn). Also need to know what recovery (name + version) you are using.
Roms based on CM must be flashed using at least twrp 2.7.1.1. All Sense based roms must be flashed with least twrp 2.6.3.3. Also , all newer Sense roms (lollipop versions) need one of the latest(7.xx.xxx.x) firmware version( or version-main if you prefer) installed on your phone You can see your version-main when booted in the bootloader menu or from the "fastboot getvar all" output.
