do kernels that are overclocked to 1.7 ghz like WerewolfJB and iodak make the phone heat up and consume more battery than kernels that are not overclocked?
also another question, will i be able to get official updates when my bootloader is unlocked?

Heat up: Yes, if you clock it above 1.5ghz, if you don't plan to OC use non OC
Consume More battery: Yes, if you clock it above 1.5ghz, although roughly the same, if you dont plan to OC then use non OC
About the official updates i don't know, if NOT, someone is bound to release a thread saying theres a new version which means you can flash the kdz files :highfive:

I don't plan to OC as i'm not a gamer so i should use optimus prime kernel as it is not over clocked?

yes, you should or any other non-OC kernel for that matter. :victory:

Hi guys,
I've searched the forums and unfortunately have found nothing about the title.
Is there a known or upcoming overclock for the Galaxy S on Froyo 2.2? Obviously the Kernel Overclock below is only for Eclair but Froyo with 1.2GHz would be sweet!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746343
Thanks!
the thing is we all use the samsung kernels and the froyo kernel is not released because firmwares aren't official so they're not forced to distribute the sources (leaks = mostly illegal - it's even breaking gpl)
i suppose u could get a 2.1 kernel to boot somehow, its probably mostly the init ramdisk which changes (?)
Until they get stable setcpu that works even with stock kernels overclocking is next to useless

How about now?
There is just one topic on this. And if you read atleast a couple of last msges you would know.
Just curious, is that overclock means drain more battery power? Then I guess it not good for smartphone isn't it?

Geeeezzz..... People here who want to overclock do not care about battery drain.
In most cases (use the Nexus One as a good example) they modified the kernel to undervolt to acceptable levels, and they were still able to overclock to 1.2Ghz stable. I saw no change in battery use when I had my Nexus One and overclocked with this UV method.

Underclocking is always possible, just get setcpu (or similar) off of android market, and turn down the max cpu frequency. Overclocking requires either a different kernel or a kernel module. We are currently working on kernel modules to be applied, but we need an unlocked bootloader to achieve a fully "overclockable" kernel.

We really need an unlocked bootloader cuz development would be so much easier
Overclocking Droid 3. The thread title says xt860 but if you read through the posts many other users are reporting success as well, no modules/custom kernel needed.
which program i use to clock my o2x? i have rooted ics v30b (india)
setcpu doesnt work
You can't overclock with the stock kernel. Go to the development section and pick a custom ICS kernel, then you will be able to overclock.

do u have any suggestion for kernel/rom? stable, and all functionality?

You can try kob 0.5, or civz kernels....but if you have no init.d support....not sure if all the functions would....
Better do a nandroid backup and then try this.....just to be safe

Try CivZ SkyWalker, you can OC up to 1.5Ghz (but it's too high, i recommend 1.3 Ghz) and you can OC your GPU up to 400Mhz.

If you install my kernel init.d is supported and the needed files are installed, but the user of a full stock rom will need to install busybox and be rooted .

GPU scales itself to max 450MHz it is not something the user controls. Read info in kernel thread.
i am trying to overclock my bionic to 1200mhz or more. im running CM10.1 and when i go into cpu settings it just says max is 1000mhz and i cant mess with the minimum clock. ive tried setcpu and no luck. any help. is there a kernel i need or what? or is it even possible? Please let me know

Right now you will need to install a Kernel that allows for OC on top of your current custom ROM. OC Kernels are marked with "OC" so that you can find them easily.

you can overclock your device here http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/16813-kexec-code-kernel-42413/ i hope it runs good for you just flash in safestrap
Will look into this

This kernel is no longer being developed, so it does not incorporate any recent changes from the Cm builds.

Blurry 2.5 has a oc kernel built in with it. 1.2gig. Has CPU sleeper an custom governers with it.. Only bad thing is its on 4.1.2 not 4.2.2. In my opinion I'd rather be on 4.2.2 then gain 200mhz
Can anyone help me i am looking for a complete benchmark of Motorola droid 4 (any rom) the web reviews cant help me so much i want to see if it suits of my needs so i can buy it !

If you need benchmarks, the droid 4 is not for you.

i had xperia pro(its nearly broken) i just want to compare the results to see if they are similar because they are both old phones and i need the qwerty keyboard...and some basic multitasking without lags, it would be helpful if you can give me a screen shot of anutu benchmark of your phone or droid 4, numbers always help to decide when you compare 2 phones.

John
Antutu v5.2.0 on my Droid 4 with Slimkat 8.8 and Lucize jbx kernel scores 16504 @ 1300mhz CPU / 384mhz GPU, and with the CPU fully overclocked to 1404mhz it scored 17112
1200mhz is stock on the CPU and 307mhz on the GPU.

did you compile it by your self? because i am not able to change the gpu/cpu values with root explorer/terminal
*i flashed lucize wip kernel
if its a custom build by you with oc,can you share it plz? thanks !

It has to be the "JBX" kernel, lucize has decided to remove this file from his post for some reason, I've attached it to this post. It's based off dtrail's JBX kernel for the motorola RAZR, you can flash that kernel to the device too but I found the radio signal level would read wrong, so I have always used this one.

seems okay it has overclocked gpu and uv/oc-+ cpu plus governors :good:
i will see the battery now

Hi!
Is it possible to use "JBX" kernel with stock ROM? Or maybe only module that allowing GPU overclocking?

You need to be rooted and have a recovery installed like TWRP / safestrap, you install that kernel zip just as you install a third party ROM through recovery. If you just want GPU overclock don't bother, the increase from 307 to 384mhz only increases GPU performance by maybe 5%, it's purposely set to 307mhz stock because the GPU is bottlenecked elsewhere (ie: memory bandwidth), 384mhz increases battery drain and heat without much performance gain.

How much you can overclock CPU?

After much testing I could only get 1391mhz 100% stable, regardless of voltage settings. Could get 1.5ghz to benchmark, but never fully stable. It does speed up the phone quite a bit, but the biggest improvement is simply using a debloated ROM with every APK removed that you can.
