[Q] Note slowed down after upgrading to Jelly Bean. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I use Galaxy Note-N7000 and the issue with my device is ever since I upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.2,my device has slowed down,I am now starting to think its because of Note unable to handle Jelly Bean.I even tried factory resetting and re-installing Jelly bean a couple of times, but it hasnt helped.I also see RAM consumption being very high with only a few apps on my device.
What could be slowing down my device?I was told Kernels speed up our devices, will it work?If so can you guys recommend me any good kernels and steps to install them?
I would really appreciate any help, guys. Please be kind
Thank you!

That's normal. Whether use ics or higher than 4.1.2.
It will always lag.
To flash custom kernel do it via Odin or root Your phone and install kernel from cwm.
Sent from note, a phone like never before

That's stock jb for you, it sucks. If you want jb then go for cm or paranoid.

Stock samsung jb ate bloated to the max and buggy as hell. There's no fixing it, that's just how they are. Try a custom rom for better performance on jb.

Flashing through Odin shouldn't need root, just USB debugging enabled. I have never flashed anything via goo manager, but if You will get the flashable file You will be able to flash it then. And it will change the cwm.
To download kernels just go to android development section for our service and search the forum for "kernel" in the topic. Our You can also Google "kernel n7000"

How do I fully root the Note?

Hey guys, Recently my dad got a Galaxy Note (N7000) and he has been complaining about The Note 2 getting jelly bean and stuff.
I already rooted it for him with Superuser.
I want to install a custom rom for him but I read a lot of topics saying that theres a very high chance on bricking your device using CWM and stuff.
If anyone could post a step by step guide, That would be super-appreciated, Thank you in advance.
Phone info
-Android 4.0.4
Baseband - N7000DXLR1
Kernel - 3.0.15-N7000DXLR5-CL968032

Search for liquidsmooth rom and flash it. It's a great rom and very smooth as it's name.

He's already rooted and on stock kernel, if he tries to flash a ROM using above CWM.zip or does factory reset on it, he will brick his device.
Best advice is to go Here, download PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-2.7-signed.zip (that's the one that is compatible with his ROM) and put it on external SD card. From there, boot into recovery mode, and flash Philz kernel from external storage. (It's the only one that can be flashed from stock recovery). Then phone will be fully rooted with safe stock kernel and safe CWM recovery. Only then should any attempt be made to flash ROMs from recovery.
Re: CWM.zip READ THIS
Easiest for me is to flash ICS of your choice using Odin. Then flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar using Odin. Select PDA in Odin to use this file. Google it up. Double check that the file you get is for ICS N7000 and that it is the Odin version.
The end result will be a rooted ICS that you can safely wipe. It also has Clockworkmod installed. This allows you to flash custom JB roms. You may get a yellow triangle upon reboot. Just buy Triangle Away on Google Play store. Reset the counter using the app.
But flashing philz from stock doesn't result in triangle, raised counter and need for triangle away. Surely easier

Sell the Note and get your father a Note2. Chances are, he will complain of so many things "not normal" once in custom rom, etc.

What does all this terminology mean?

Hi so i just moved from my iphone to the note so im a little nooby with andriod again, im trying to root and install a new rom but half the stuff im reading is all gibberish LOL. For instance what is GB, JB etc its all confusing at the moment
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Man now i sound silly, gb is gingerbread and jb is jelly bean. What is xxsl7 though?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
You're right on the first two... As one that came from an iPhone, i know how confusing it can be...
When people mention xxls7 or something like that it's usually rom related. Take the first two letters, xx gives you location, not 100 percent sure but think that's open europe, then the last three are the important ones, that's rom version.
It's incremental so a before b numbers higher than letters. So lc1 is earlier than ld1 or lc2 or lcz. They range amongst overall versions, so gb has its on range, ics (ice cream sandwich) has its own, and now onto jelly bean with the lsx range.
Get my drift?
There's also kernels which are the package that performs connections with the hardware, same deal, later generally better.
On ics, Stock kernels are dangerous and can brick your device instantly, read stickies about that, so we usually flash a safe kernel if we're on stock ics. There's hydracore or phillz amongst others. Each have their own benefits/drawbacks.
Hope that helps, read all the stickies initially, it'll help alot, especially on ics kernels and bricks as we have a lot of people skipping that and coming here complaining of a dead phone after first flash.

Thanks for an awsome reply! It makes alot more scense now lol. Your saying when rooting on 4.0.1(ics i think) i need to also flash a safe kernal so that a rom can be installed?

all stock ICS kernels are unsafe for WIPE as when installing a new ROM you need to do a factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik cache ( Clockworkmod recovery terminology)
thats why spyde adviced you to install a safe kernel before going to install a new rom..
---------- Post added at 06:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:51 PM ----------
its very simple to root a 4.0.4 these days and safe as well..
check you rom build number and download the kernel corresponding to your rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1901191
then place the zip file in the ext SD.. boot into recovery and update from external SD and point to the Zip file.. install and done..
Rooted, safe kernel and CWM for installing new roms as well...

Just take a time to understand the importance of the kernel and the process to root via odin and then flash a rom via recovery.

Ultimate cause you can install cleanest. Safe kernel and format system and data.
Alliance is good, but I always had issues cause I couldnt format. Also not everything was installed as I liked, becausebsome options for install are available onky throught scripts called upon bij installed app, which is why formats arent possible for mounts.
What's good for me maybe your poison, but ultimate is way the best

[Q] GT-N7000 Root Issues

Hi Guys,
Probably typical Noob issue here but i will give you a run down on what my problem is.
Followed Rootmygalaxynote Video.
Downloaded
CWM.zip
CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip
franco.Kernel-r5.zip
All seemed ok except
1.Phone will now not find IP address and is always trying to verify.
2.Cannot connect to my computer via usb.
Downloaded Busybox and Rootchecker and it says my device is not rooted.
Question is, is there a way to sort these issues without having to use my cellular data to download something to fix it?
1. Attempted to repair by resetting modem/router
2.Tried to reinstall/update drivers but keeping getting device driver problem notification
All and any help would be appreciated.
What rom are you on? The simplest root method is to download the corresponding PhilZ kernel and flash it through recovery mode.

Choose the one that is for your kernel(not baseband)
And for rooting I used rootmygalaxynote.com (or something like this)
There was a method that used only one time flashing a zip
Since I did not buy this phone with guaranty I did not read about raising flash counter. But make sure you do

Once again, you don't need to root your device if you flash the PhilZ Kernel because the PhilZ Kernel is already rooted. Just flash it through stock recovery and your phone is rooted.

You said you used rootmygalaxynote.com to root your phone. That's not necessary. Coming from a stock rom you can simply flash the PhilZ Kernel through stock recovery (volume up, home and power button). That's all you need to root a Note.

[Q] XXLSA to Official Stock/Factory ROM

1. I have the International version of GT-N7000
2. All official until I manually updated to XXLSA JB 4.1.2 using Odin (I cant wait for official to come via OTA thats why)
3. Now I cant use Kies as it says it dont recognize it (you know what i mean)
4. I dont care about kies enyway.
My question is, can I,
1. Let say remove this XXLSA ROM and go back to Stock (i think its ICS or something)

YES, if you flash back to stock ICS, you will get official OTA again. You can also visit sammobile.com and download and flash stock JB 4.1.2 which is now available for almost every region. This will put u on stock rom and do not root if you want to get OTA update.
