i think its a bad board but anyway i was filming a video for some freinds at a local football game and it was hot day and had the screen on full brightness and set it not to turn off and was directly in the sunlight battery life is terrible and phone runs hotter than what it used to see ive flashed back to the stock firmware shipping it back to att but i need a phone do you think it would be okay to use it with a messed up battery/board dont want to die
I read this extra quickly because you used no punctuation.
You're not going to die.
You could have easily fried your board. Were you using an overclock kernel like arrrghhh's?
Sent from my MB886 using Tapatalk 4
no i was using pac 4.2.2m1 with the normal kernal
Did you open it up and check things out?

The obvious has happened. The cat ate the battery and died of lithium poisoning..
My girlfriend and i both have captivates and she said hers was getting hot. I didnt think of anything as all phones get a little warm while charging. However when i grabbed it last night, it was so hot it could have burnt my hand. It feels hotter than most dinner plates at resturaunts. New battery does the same thing. What could it be? Two bad batteries?

If it's still under warranty, I would suggest taking it back in to AT&T. (If you've modded it, make sure it's back at stock first, of course.) It sounds like a hardware issue, and if you explain it to them, they might swap it out for you with one that doesn't behave that way.
Someone else may be able to offer a different/better solution, but if you've got hardware getting that hot, that signals to me that it's going to be trouble down the line, and it's better to take care of it now.
Not under warranty. Took in to store and att rep said something inside smells like its melting.

could be alot of things. first try changing the ROM on your device. How's your battery life? which part seems hottest?
Battery life sucks. Rom is stock froyo rooted. battery life was worth with other custom roms and stock seemed best since shes not into the whole modding scene like me. I think were just going to get her a samsung infuse probably.

My battery has been sluggish right after updating 4.0.4. Right after restarting my device, i left only 20% of battery instead of 90% before restarting. Im getting sick n tired of samsung. Thers always a problem after software update. Im wondering wether they ever tested their software before releasing it to consumer. LOUSY

Calibrate your battery.
Let it empty untill blackout. Take out battery for 2 min then put it back again, and charge it to full, do not push the on button while charging.
My suggestion is to install and SPYCPU podesiš processor clock so you would not spend the battery more than they need. We also have a large selection governo, naćićeš best balance of performance and battery life.
Thanks jonpaslim! i will try to do that and will update the results

The total of 1 week I was on both OS builds I had these issues that I identified to be the battery:
Facebook
GPSD
and then not going into deep sleep (the phone gets warm)
Badass Battery (now another name, but you can still search Badass battery) and BBS (Better Battery Stats) helped me.
Thanks zkye.
So far i hv been using pretty alot of apps. Been using carat, netqin and cpu spy. Well the batt is still i would say average.. Im wondering how to read this thing on cpu spy. Especially the deep sleep graph. Is it sufficient? Or am i doing the wrong thing or what?

You can check version in settings, then about phone in bottom Guess you are on stock. Be carefull wiping, factory resetting and deleting large files as kernel can trigger a bug in emmc chip, corrupting partitions.
good you started analysing root causes. Always best case.
now if you dont care for warrantee you can follow directions from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29139461 to get back to starting point of install. Or to install the awesome speedmod kernel.
Alteratively you can add apps one by one and together with battery usage analysed you can fin culprits. With tools like betterbatterystats, cpu spy and badassbattery monitor

did you try re-calibrating your battery?
Hi xfox,
Done with calibrating as in let it empty, take out the batt for a while then turn it on again. It seems okay for now. Is there any other way instead? Im sorry for asking this stupid question again and again. And thank to all of ya for replying my so called newby question. Lol.

Thanks baz,
How i wish i could use those speedmod kernel and so on. Well im quite afraid to root it cuz im not too sure that im gonna use this phone for a long time. As the phone value will decrease if i void the warranty. But thx for replying my post tho. As for now im still monitoring my batt behaviour.

this done it for my brothers Note
thanks
Galaxy Note problem
When I got my Galaxy Note, the battery used to last for 10 hrs on GB. After upgrading to ICS, that time dropped to 8 hrs. And after ICS updates, it went down to less than 4 hrs since it was discharging much fatser than charging, and it was the same whether I used the original power charger or direct USB cable.
The original charger is an adapter + USB cable.
Everything went fine when i changed the USB and used the one originally used to charge the Sony 3D glasses.
Now it's charging normally and the discharge rate is around 8% /hr with WIFI and mobile data ON.
Hope it will work for you.
Hey guys,
In some cases my display heats up very fast. Can't touch it for a while. Can anyone confirm that? I don't do a lot, just text a SMS or something...
Thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
Is the whole screen heated up or just a part of it (possibly only top or bottom of the screen)? What were you doing before it started heating up? Playing games while charging can sometimes cause the whole device to heat up, at least it does on my SGS.
Did you accidentally drop your phone in some water or something? That's the most common cause for such problems.

Thanks for your answer. The hole screen is heating up very fast. If I play 3d games it is usually but I just look at the time or chatting with some friends. My phone never dropped into water and I don't overclock it.
I'm on JB Rom right now but had that problem in GB and IcS too. Just wanted to ask if it is normal for 2 years old devices
My device is running great but the fast heating is wired ;/
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
While playing 3d games heating up sounds quite normal, but it should not happen when just chatting or similar stuff that does not use loads of system power :\
If you still got some warranty on it, you might want to send it to some repair center to fix it. (Remember to flash back to stock rom before doing so )
Haha my phone didn't have any warranty anymore
I could buy me another but I love the style and great support of the I9000 ! it seems like I have to live with the "heat issue" until my phone burns haha
Thanks for your advice again.

This problem could be could be due to the rom that you are using, although it seems strange for it to be that bad.
One thing you could try is underclocking to save power, it wont make too much difference but it is a start.
A second solution is to simply buy a new battery as your current one may just be old.
there is also the obvious basics: low screen brightness, stopping any unwanted services and try to steer away from live wallpapers
hope this helps.
You should test another rom
Change your ROM brother !
I've tryed a few rom's since I posted this battery must be done in. It fully charges in less than 10 mins and runs out in just over an hour fed up charging my phone lol

yes, its probably best to get a new on then, be careful though a lot of the ones on sale are fake so make sure that you find a real one.
hope you get it sorted
