How to add more languages to moto x? - Moto X Q&A

just four languages in it,someone knows the way to add more languages, like chinese?

I bet someone knows it cuz I ever met with this issue on another motorola-phone. They managed it great!

I would really like to know this aswell.
There has to be many other europeans and people outside the US, who are planning to buy this phone, which would like to know how to install a new language?

Looks like if you update to 4.4 Kitkat there will be more language available.I just got my new moto x and it's on kitkat.It has more than 4 languages available.

Yes.I took a look at a Moto X running 4.3 earlier at a store and there are only 4 languages but it's AT&T though. Not 100% sure if they're the same

It's an odd thing, but Verizon is the only Moto X carrier which features all native Android languages. T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint etc. only has 4 languages installed. That's why your phone has all of them. It has nothing to do with KitKat. I'm sorry

Yes that's right. For some reason only Verizon compiles with all languages, even the Dev edition has only 4 languages.
I don't want to flash a whole VZW ROM on my moto x DE so I've tried a bit, messing around with framework file and system apps, but I simply can't get it working. If I replace all file with "framework" in the name in /system/framework and set right permissions, the phone boots up and shows "Android is upgrading". After that the screen turns and stays black.
Also just replacing systemui.apk/odex causes problems.
Maybe someone have a idea how to get it working, so that we have a flashable multi-lang zip.
(I've got the files from official VZW KitKat update zip)
Edit: is there any way to see which dependencies framework-res.apk has?

This is interesting work. I was hoping all along someone would dig into this, cause that was also my initial thought. I can't see why it shouldn't be possible to extract the language files from the VZW ROM and add them to the other ROMS. It seems like a pretty easy task, if you know where they are stored, but I might be mistaken.
On the other hand, Moto X has been launched in EU now, so those will probably contain the different European languages one can hope.

EU version does contain bunch of european languages. I have EU firmware installed on my XT1053, works perfectly, does not contain any bloat. Had to flash XT1053 modem to get it work though.

Hi Ujoty,
Would you help to advise?
1. After flashing EU firmware, can I select Chinese as system Language?
2. Would you tell me how to flash "XT1053 modem"? Any link or reference teach us how to do that?
3. I just wonder if the LTE Band 7 also enabled on XT1053 after flashing EU firmware? (dreaming..)
Thank you!

Awesome! What's the difference between the service version and the full version? Do you have to be bootloader unlocked for both?

I'm already on JB, can I re-flash the Full Version with locked bootloader?
The thing is after JB my phone never sleeps, stay "awake" all the time, draining more battery...
Thanks!

You can't perform a downgrade with locked bootloader but you can reflash the same version, i supose. About the sleeps you already try configurations -> display -> sleep? Good Luck!
I may sound noob... but can you please tell me what's the difference between retail and carrier version. Any benefits other than no carrier bloatware? I am looking to flash my Phone and considering telstra version .. what i should expect from this ROM?
For info : English - Spanish - Portug.... Onluy this 3 languages available on this rom ...

If I understand things correctly the service version is required to keep root (you need protected root on 4.0.4 before you upgrade to JB then restore root)
If this is the case is there an ETA on service version of this firmware?
Don't keep the root you must root again... flash cwm and super su binary after

Can't change DPI setting on JB
Just a small problem. I can't successfully change DPI settings on this. If I change DPI from 320 to perhaps 240, cell stops booting, then only RSD Lite to solve (flashing everything back to stock). Does this happen to anyone else?
EDIT: Solved. Wasn't a problem with the ROM at all. Density modders aren't prepared to JB yet. Changed build.prop and everything worked well. Thank you anyway!
Sorry about the noob question but Does this flash via RSD right?

Yes, RSD 6.
But if you want it rooted: as JB Service version is not available for download yet (just the full version), in order to not loose root, I advise you to flash 4.0.4 Retail Brazil and then update through Settings to Motorola's JB 4.1.2.
If you don't need root or if you know some other rooting method, go ahead and flash JB Full Version with RSD Lite 6. It's your phone so you take the risk.

[Q] Root moto X 4.4 Tigo Colombia

I want to change my nexus 4 for a moto X but I hate to lose the "nexus liberty", in other words I don't want go back to a smartphone that I can't get root. I read in XDA forums the jcase root for motoX 4.4 version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896) but in the first step he said (I quote):
"You need to get the camera update from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php and flashing back to it. You must be 100% stock before continuing."
I'm from colombia and i saw that Skrilax_CZ have the ClaroColombia image, but i'm not have that carrier and if I get the motoX will be from other carrier named TIGO Colombia, so my question is that the ClaroColombia image works with the TigoColombia phone. If not, someone can help me to find the TigoColombia image?
Yours will probably be boot loader unlockable so you can just flash root
If you are bootloader locked then it will not let you flash anything other than what you phone is supposed to have to feel free to give that a shot. You can probably bootloader unlock however and save yourself the trouble of using the exploit to gain root. Also once you are bootloader unlocked if that devices is model xt1053 you can flash just about every image out right now for tmobile or other xt1053 carriers.

OK, finally I have all the information.
The motoX of Tigo Colombia with the camera update patch is:
Model: X1058
Baseband version: MSM8960PRO_BP_2323.020.90.00R
System version: 139.12.37.ghost_row.Latam.en.CO
Compilation number: 13.9.0Q2.X-116-LCX.37
The phone is from a friend of my
So as i see it (correct me if i'm wrong please) I have three options for root:
1- Don't do it and life with that
2- Do it via Custom recovery and superSU-chainfire
3- Via SlapMyMoto xploit with the images of Skrilax_CZ (http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php)
The option #2 implies the use of TWRP or another recovery. I actually have a nexus 4 with a custom recovery and when I upgrade android via OTA the phone goes to a bootloop, with the nexus it's easy to solve because google publish the factory images. With the motoX it's another question...........
The option #3 implies use the factory image of Skrilax_CZ (http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php) but as i said when I open the [Q] i don't know what factory image i can use. Hopefully with the info above someone can tell me what image i can use or if i can't use any at all.

Carriers only greenlight updates for the model they sell. So for AT&T they will only approve updates for the XT1058. It doesn't matter what phone you are using on that carrier (or no carrier at all and just WiFi), it's the model phone that the carrier sells. AT&T phone updates approved by AT&T for their model (XT1058), Verizon phone updates approved by Verizon for their model (XT1060) and so on....
Using a non-AT&T phone on AT&T, the update is approved by whichever carrier that phone model belongs too, not what service/carrier the phone is being used on.

Flashed 4.4.2 sbf over 4.4.4

My bootloader is unlocked. My stock rom was messed up with system modifications and I tried to go back to pure stock. So i tried flashing 4.4.2 sbf file but i am already on 4.4.4. I didn't know that before that you cannot downgrade from 4.4.2 or higher.
The thing is I run the following commands
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
i didn't run the subsequent commands
and tried rebooting phone immediately
the phone is working fine as such(system modifications are still present and i want to get rid of them).
I read somewhere that if you try to downgrade you may/will brick your device. And also of a guy who did something like this (downgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 and it was working fine until he took an OTA, that OTA bricked his device)
Are there any chances of me bricking my device?
Your system shows 4.4.2 now? If so, yes....taking an OTA will very likely brick you. And those ones are much harder, or impossible to fix.

You'll be eventually able to flash L manually too.
But as long as you are confident you've never downgraded your bootloader version...you'll be fine. If you have, or are unsure....best not to OTA.

I'm in a similar situation as op. reason why i don't do what you say is: there is no official 4.4.4 image from Motorola. and i have no idea where rdslite came from nor its source code.
what i did is email Motorola support repeatedly for an official 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 images because they sold us developer devices and promised support. it's ridiculous that they only offer 4.4.2 to download for restore.

nothing yet.
and please. for all that is holy, everyone minimally interested in this, move your ass and also email them!
i went via the site, logged in with the same account i used to purchase directly from them. i got an automated response from the email
[email protected]
saying "Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within 24 hours." because i also believe in Santa Claus.
here's the message in using. feel free to reuse to spam them.
I have the developer edition.
I need to flash the original system image to re lock the boot loader.
but since my phone was sold to me on android 4.4.3 (or I accepted a OTA update from Motorola as soon as I received it) I cannot use the old android 4.4.2 system image you provide.
since Motorola is already even providing updates to 4.4.4 I demand at least the 4.4.3 to be made available. if not the 4.4.4
thank you,

Samsung Note 4 is getting Android 5.1.1 update
It is already known that Samsung is going to release Android 5.1 to Note 4 by the end of this month. Samsung already began the rollout of Android 5.1.1 for Galaxy Note 4 with Model no. SM-N910C in Russia. But the rollout hasn't started in any other countries yet. So it seems that Samsung is going to rollout Android 5.1.1 to European Galaxy Note 4 unlocked editions in the next week. American carriers like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile may rollout the update to their Galaxy Note 4 devices in August.
In India and Middle East countries also Samsung may start the rollout to Retail editions of Note 4 in the next Month. In Australia also, Samsung will begin the rollout in August. The exact change log of the update didn't reveal yet. But according to analysts, the South Korean tech giant is not going to bring big changes in Note 4 phablet with this update and it is not like the Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 update. So we won't see the addition of features like option to remove S Finder and Quick Connect toggles in the notifications, or advanced camera features like RAW support in Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 update.
But Android 5.1.1 update brings HD voice calling facility and fixes for some bugs. With HD voice calling users can talk in calls with HD quality over supported carriers. App crashes, Phone restarts and Battery drain bugs have been fixed in this update. Touchwiz user interface also will be improved after updating to Android 5.1.1. So this update is worthy to install and we are recommending it.

I don't know this firmware exists or not. But I'm sure it's modem exist and has better reception. And build.prop trick doesn't effect it after just modem installation.

For the love of likes, don't make such threads.
The 5.1.1 system dump is available on a Russian forum. If you search you will find it, unfortunately it doesn't boot so it looks like we need the kernel or bootloader too. I have it downloaded and deodexed already

I would not call it "system dump".
It is a compressed file of "app" folder.
Also, 162mb for a system dump? seriously?

Obviously you've not read it properly there are 20+ files there and the full system. If you join you get the entire system dump as one file which I did . If its not there why is it on my pc as a flashable zip and fully deodexed?

The only problem is it won't boot even with a custom kernel so we either need the 5.1 1 kernel or bootloader or maybe both

Mod Edit
