Q - mod/tweak - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hi... just wanna know ur opinion about mod/tweak that u guys had used on our tab...
For example the CrossBreeder..etc
I had install CB on 4.2.2 and its really reduced lag, make more smooth + the adblock features...
But didnt try yet on 4.3 (currently on cm10.2)
Saw some people said that we didnt really need it, not help at all and bla3...
So maybe anyone can share ur experiences/info about mod/tweak that really help to improve our tab...
Thanks... :good:

Hi, I was using crossbreeder on CM10.1 and was very noticable the improvement. I am now running the SGT7 version of CM10.2 (Android 4.3) by DemonGloom which is really good. I just put CrossBreeder on last night and it was still noticably smoother. I followed the manual update to get the adblocking working on 4.3. Seems good so far.
Cheers,

Just to update, battery life with CrossBreeder is excellent.

Anyone tried Operation Killerjoy on our tab? Will it worked well with CB?

is there any way to speed up my nexus?

im running cm7.2.0 and it gets kinda laggy sometimes when i scroll up and down in my app drawer..
is there a kernel besides the stock cm7 kernel that i should flash?
I noticed a significant increase in the speed of the OS when I switched from CM 7.2 to ICS & JB. Most JB Roms still have a few bugs, but if you like cyanogenmod, SpazeDog ICS is based off CM9, is fast, and pretty stable.
If you would like to try an ICS update but are unsure how, I wrote an update tutorial that has all the links for everything you will need in it here.
Hope this helps.
I know how it feels on cm7.2 it was so laggy especially using browser. ICS is more stable than jelly bean, but my phone using jb is faster than ICS. If you don't need camera I would recommend upgrading to jb.
Its very easy to install ICS/jb. Do a search on black rose and learn how to partition you system.

I just did your tutorial Yesterday ) thanks alot again! ICS is really fast and stable, running texaics. is spazedog's ics rom better though? the only downside is the camcorder.. its not big deal but kinda sucks that we don't have the option of recording good vids. is there no fix for this?

thanks just upgraded to ics, its way faster then the cm7 rom. feels way different going thru the UI. i'll just wait till the JB roms are less buggy. btw which JB rom would you recommend?
I've seen some success using V6 Supercharger script (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16635544#post16635544). Its a script that is compatible with ICS and JB. Check it out. :good:

The roms are both good, just different - its a matter of personal preference. You should try them both and see which you like better. I prefer spazedog because it is more like CM which I have used for a long time. Also, I like the disk manager (spazedog version of app2sd script) as it is totally automatic - it moves apps to your ext partition in the background... you never have to mess with moving stuff around manually or running a script.
I do not know of a fix for the video recording issue.

A ROM without bugs?! Hah! It's right next to the pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow (just to the left of the unicorn).
Marvel 11 is highly configurable, with a few (minor) quirks. I'm thinking that v12 is coming soon, at least that's what the tea leaves are reading. There were a couple of scripting issues, mainly with boot animations (you don't necessarily get the one you ask for).
I played with IZS, but I really appreciate the AROMA installer that Marvel uses.

Hahaha...
A different recommendation in almost every reply... Will throw my two cents in.
Currently running Mackay ROM v2.7.6 (JB 4.2.2). Works great in general but has a few of the common snags as all the JB 4.X.X roms. Camera issues, bluetooth is mute and any apps installed tot he SD card get uninstalled on every reboot (solution is to install to internal memory) are the only main things. I'm looking for something a little more stable and need bluetooth to operate properly for work when I'm driving.
I'm about to try Marvel ROM v11 (ICS 4.0.4) today. Will post up later and share my thoughts.

You should go for IZS, but Marvel is also a great ROM
Zeus 7.06
I also would recommend zeus 7.06.Best battery, fastest, most stable ROM (for me anyway). :good:
Also, flashing the latest Diana kernel is easy:just flash it from CWM with "install zip from SD" option.
Good luck!
I'm happy with the jellybam 6.7.0 rom.. Only bug i can find is that the dolphin browser wont start.. Everything else works fine..
Just installed Marvel v11 and WOW!!! It's awesome!
The level of customization is almost overwhelming, (but that's ok because I like lots of options...lol). It runs fast, smooth, stable, looks great and only a few minor issues thus far, but I believe these issues have solutions (I just have to sift through all the posts to find the answers...).
Im really enjoying SlimBean, its thin, the camera works on a great quality, no chipmuk voice, the video recorder works fine and all on jelly bean. After test ICS and JellyBean, i will never back to ICS. Dont know why, but seems lightier than other versions of android. :cyclops:

You're saying the camera in Slim ROM works well? Is video recording smooth and not jumpy (low frame rate or high)?
Also, do you know if bluetooth works properly (not mute)?

on specs of slimbean shows that the video recorder is on 720p, but i dont know if it is. And i dont tested the bluetooth, i already back to stable cm10 because i have an issue with battery drain on slimbean, almost got 7 hours, maybe is a problem with my baseband version, but is a great rom. Well, i found a apk of stock camera of ICS and works well...
Ive installed 10 min ago this:
cm10-stable + gapps
zero gravity kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082740
and cm10-lge-camera that i found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091599
with cm10 stable i can get 1 day and 7 hours of battery, with another roms, less then 8 hours because i not use 3g, wifi sometimes.

[Q] Best ROM/kernel for gaming

Hey guys, i'm newbie to these parts. I have galaxy not N7000 stock, but the graphics quality on Real Racing 3 sucks. AND it's a bit laggy (maybe 18fps or so) so what's the best ROM/Kernel to use?
I'm on Gingerbread 2.3.6.
And i want ROM that have working camera and Wifi..
Battery consumption? As long as it's the same as default, i'm fine
Thank you so much

Hey Bro, I would advice you first update your device to Jelly bean.. it increases your performance.. maybe you should try the stock rom first which you can get from sammobile.com, and then if it still doesn't work then try XXLT6 rom by Thaidai. That's the perfect one.
Hit THANKS if I helped

Yes buddy it is.. you get a lot of fluidity...
a performance boost too..
if you want I am providing you the link where you can update your note.. the full procedure..
http://techtactics-by-rbhk.blogspot.in/ use this blog..
and try it once..
Thanks
I reply not only because of naming my XXLT6.
XXLT6 is removed from my list of Roms, so you will not find it (it only made problems for me and other members).
And if you want to try to upgrade to JB you are at the right place here in XDA - no need to switch to other websites.
Use Dr. Ketan's standard thread for updating your Rom with one of the available JB stock Roms.
Or switch to a Custom Rom of the "color and taste" you like. Look in to the two development forums here and always follow the installation instruction of the specific Rom.
You'll get some nice features with JB (many of them I personally do not use).
But: I'm not convinced that you get increased performance with JB, I still think GB is the one to choose.
But 2: you have to check and compare this yourself.
But 3: I do not talk about battery life. My only answer to a reduced time of battery life is always: buy a new one.
If your device is too slow you could also try with a factory reset in GB and start with a clean device (after saving all your important data).
Well thank you very much.. i'm looking for the Fastest ROM for Gaming, f**k the colours, i'd rather play Windows 2000 with GTX titan card, rather than windows 8 with bad graphic card. I hope you get my point
So, any suggestions which ROM has the fastest performance?

phone is getting slower

Hi guys. I'm using cm mods for like 2 years. But it seems that it's getting slower and slower. I guess the new apps need more ram or something. Is there any way I can make my i9000 faster? Should I go back to gingerbread? Or any rom you can suggest for faster use?
It's really annoying to use the phone lately. Always lag.

For my phone helped me wipe cache/dalvik cache/fix permissions and factory reset... After these wipes my rom runs fast and smooth but after 2-3 months I need to do it again because the phone getting slower again Try it if you want I hope this can help you
I just use CM7.2 stable and no lag plus I can use chainfire3D in some games which gives them an extra boost... not sure if chainfire3D is compatible with any other version
I am using GamerzROM and the Fly-On Script and I can tell that it's super smooth. I also ticked GPU Rendering in Developer options, it seems to me that it makes scrolling so much smoother and basically everything is working fast.
Thanks for recommends. I installed gamerzrom and it's really good. I mean it's like i bought a new phone. I hope it won't do lag again after a week or so. If it will, then I'll try to add fly-on script I guess.
What is the difference between gamerzrom and CM???

Hi!
Have tried many ROMS(including Slim, CM, GamerzROM) and at this moment I have only few favorites:
Supernexus - clean AOSP ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219235
MokeeOS - has a lot of features and very fast(I wondered how )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352448
GearKernel tastes good with ROMs listed above
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330446
[jOP40D] OFICIAL ANDROID 4.2.1 <RC2> (JB) GALAXY NEXUS STOCK ROM by ELITEMOVIL - old but good one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004906
CM 10.2 - testing it on my old i9000 and it feels like fast and stable with good memory management.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385178
Listed ROMs gave me about 4000 or better in Antutu Benchmark.
Hope this is helpful.
Also recommend to set "Background process limit" to 2 or 3 in Developer options

I tried hellybean once again. I had been using cm7.2 and cm10.1 nightlies until 20130723 build was released. this is the best release of the devilkernel and hellybean in a long while. This is probably because cm10.1 is pretty darn stable right now.
Anyways, with hellybean you need the devil kernel manager app to configure it properly. You can also use nstools to undervolt, but it's alright even if you don't.
It's basically cm10.1 but you get the devilkernel and the xposed framework with the rom. You'll have to install the gapps for android 4.2 separately.
http://hellybean.com/I900042.html
It's really a great kernel (right now, semaphore is good too), and the 20130723 release is great. Battery is decent, performance is flawless if you tweak it. Use the dkm app and also enter Systemsettings -> System -> Find "Build.prop Mods" -> set wifi scan interval to 150, pm sleep to "power collapse", dalvik cache to 48m and enable gpu acceleration at the bottom. These tweaks might be "placebo/sugarpills" but it shouldn't cause problems. You can check "optimize tcp stack" too, not that I notice the difference really.
In DKM app, you could set ram setting to "XL", enable zram and set zramsize to 150. on the cpu tab, use smartassv2 governor with the powersave profile, or normal difference is negligable. Enable deep idle if you want. next page, enable fast charge if you know to disable it when you want to transfer files over usb. On the misc tab, make sure bluetooth kill is on, fsync control is off and dynamic fsync is on. Smooth ui should be on if you feel it's laggy otherwise.
That's how I've configured it for now. I don't think I'll upgrade hellybean for a while, that usually leads to unstability and/or performance loss.
ThinkingBridge ROM
ROM: ThinkingBridge ROM Stable-1
Theme it with : SGS IV - TW + AccuWeather S4
Mod with: Fly-On Mod
And finally install Greenify for better RAM management.
And you are good for a very long time!!

Hi guys great topic, i'm deeply interested.
A friend of mine gave me her i9000 to "repair" because it was laggy as hell.
I tried few roms last week with her criterions :
Not laggy for common tasks (almost no gaming) even with few widgets on home screen
Good battery life is a plus
I first tried some JB rom (C-Rom, SuperNexus) great experience but they were laggy as hell with few apps installed (i had about 5sec lag between each action). I see that you guys recomment hellybean, would you feel that the smoothness would be better?
I did'nt try ICS roms as i see in the dev section that most of them are abandonned.
I finally tried a GB (JWB), the smoothness is better but i experience big lags on the calling apps (remake all my call multiple times when i finished it...). I guess the best option would be the GB smoothness without this laggy call app.
What would be your recommendations? more searching in the JB roms (hellybean etc.)? or trying CM7, or other GB stocks?
thanks in advance for your recommendations,
CM7 is great in performance - fastest ROM i've tried for i9000, but if no new features needed.
Using CM 10.2 for about a week and it feels good and have some battery-friendly features.
Better to make full wipe before installing any of 4+ roms
