[Q] 80048888 email certificate errors - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I guess at some point virginmedia resigned their email certs.
From that point onwards I have been unable to send emails.
I have tried deleting the account, manually installing the new cert, unticking SSL, using alternative smtp servers. rebooting, adding :465, adding :462:1.
None of the above works on my Lumia 920.
The only way that I can send an email is via my Hotmail account but TBH I don't know hat the address of the Hotmail account is (actually Outlook shows me that the address is [email protected])
Has any one managed to get past this issue? I guess if I could navigate to the cert and delete it all would be fine.

Email / Exchange

Having a few problems with email. I can't find any way of managing email accounts in WM6. I am currently trying to sync with my companies exchange server. I have all the details I need but when I try to add an email address via Start > Messages > Messaing > New Email account" I get stuck.
It asks me for my email address. I uncheck the 'find settings on the internet' box thing. It then asks for my name and pop3/imap4 server address. I assume this is trying to setup the wrong type of email as I was expecting to be able to select 'Exchange Server' but I am not getting the option to do so.
Am i doing something retarded?
Thanks
Jon
To connect to exchange server directly you go to active sync on your device and "Configure Server"
Don't know what your doing but for me it works fine.
Exchange for skool mail.
Pop3 for Mobile private website mail.
Outlook sync for Private website mail.
It gave me the option the first time I did it but not anymore. Is it only possible to sync with one exchange server and that I have to delete the first attempt before trying to add another?
Also, is there a way of managing the email accounts in WM6 as I want to delete a couple of test accounts I have been playing with and cant seem to find out how to get rid of them.
Thanks
Jon
Open an email or SMS account.
Tap Menu, Tools, Options.
That takes you to a screen where you can add or delete accounts as well as change connection settings for them.

You can only sync with one exchange server.
Think I have most things sorted now. The only issue I cannot resolve is I am not being alerted when a mail arrives in my live messenger account. I get the alert when it lands in the inbox but am not being alerted if one of my message rules sends it to one of my custom folders.

Sending Email with IMAP

Does anyone know of any bugs/issues with Windows Mobile (or any specific rom issues, for that matter) that exist with attempting to use multiple IMAP accounts? I used one of Dutty's roms before, then Alex's rom (I believe), and I'm back to Dutty's and still have the same issue. I can only seem to get one IMAP send account to work. Basically, when I was on Alex's rom, only my work IMAP would work, Gmail wouldn't. Now that I've re-flashed to
Dutty's rom, I can't get my work to send messages (and I'm certain it worked on Alex's and Gmail wouldn't), but Gmail does work. Any ideas?
Has no one else had this issue? Is there a setting or something that I've missed? I've looked up and down the phone, but see nothing...
If you're looking for issues regarding sending email, you have to search for the SMTP protocol, not for IMAP. POP3 and IMAP are used to receive mail, SMTP to send.
Are you sure the SMTP server you are using is accessible through your internet connection (I mean like 3G, GPRS, EDGE, not WLAN)? Most likely this is where the problem is situated.
Gmail SMTP is accessible through a mobile connection, but most SMTP servers from ISPs are not.
Good luck!
Yeah I'm sure. On Alex's ROM my work email would send ok (which didn't actually use smtp.xxxx.com; instead mail.xxxx.com), but gmail wouldn't send anything (using smtp.gmail.com). But now back on Dutty's, my work account wont send, and Gmail will. Does that answer your question?
In a way it does.
I tried using different SMTP server just now, but one of em didn't work. It might be the exact same issue as you have, but I think my problem has got more to do with the SMTP server itself than the configuration.
Sorry
Basically my issue only exists in SENDING emails. I can receive emails from all accounts fine, but I haven't been able to get more than one IMAP account to be able to send. Anyone else familiar with this issue, or have encountered it as well?
att smtp
I use att and the only smtp that work is their smtp. Even though you can receive any pop, you can only send through them. That may your problem
But that can't be it either. I've gotten GMail's SMTP to work on my latest ROM...just can not get my work, which is just mail.xxx.com instead of SMTP, which doesn't make any sense since I've gotten it to work before; basically I've gotten each of them to work before, just not at the same time. Also while I was at work Friday, I had our IT manager pull up the email server log, and on "send/receive" it shows it me connecting, receiving, but when it comes to sending messages, nothing reaches the server; it's like something fails on the PPC's end before it reaches the server. And I've quadruple+ checked the address, so it can't be that either.
Nobody else know anything about this?
While I was looking for something else, I ran into this:
Q.How can I configure Exchange ActiveSync to support multiple SMTP domains?A.Exchange ActiveSync locates a user's mailbox by using the primary Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address. However, if users have a different SMTP domain in their e-mail address, they cannot synchronize their mobile device with Exchange Server 2003. To address this issue, you must add a registry key to force Exchange ActiveSync to locate the user's mailbox by using a secondary SMTP addresses. For more information about how to configure Exchange ActiveSync to locate users' secondary e-mail addresses, see You receive an HTTP_500 error message when you synchronize your mobile device with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
Caution: Incorrectly editing the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Problems resulting from editing the registry incorrectly may not be able to be resolved. Before editing the registry, back up any valuable data.

It might have nothing to do with your problem, but you might wanna give it a try. Follow the link in the quote.
Good luck

Adding two hotmail/live accounts on Xperia, Possible?

I have 3 different accounts set up on live and hotmail. I would like the emails from all of these to be accessible on my Xperia. Sadly every time I try to add the second one the phone does nothing.
I have tried two different ROMs neither of which changed the result.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.
I'm not a hotmail/live user but i think that the phone wants to associate your live account with windows live. and you can only ad on windows live account. what you cold do is forward the mails to on account. i have 4 email account and i have them forwarded to an gmail account so i only have to ad on account for everything.
like i sayd i'm not an live user so i don't know if there is something you can do i never had this isseu.
ive got 2 hotmail accounts working on mine
Do you have live messenger installed on your phone? as a program not a panel.
You can do it, but you'll get push mail only for ONE account. This is how it works: Set up a new e-mail account, enter a fake e-mail address. The domain-part is important (The thing after @). DO NOT WRITE HOTMAIL OR MSN OR LIVE THERE! Enter correct PW for your e-mail. Then choose POP3 Servers. Servers are: pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com. Make sure you check ALL checkboxes you can, also in advanced, enable SSL, outgoing mails authentication etc. When you're done, EDIT the account you just created and put in the correct e-mail address. Now you can use it
Sweet. Thanks a million.
thats how i got mine to work
but i cant get push email to work how do you set that up?

Access MS Exchange webmail

My employer hosts a webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange mail server. I am able/allowed to conntect to this server using https://webmail.myemployer.com from all web browsers and from all locations I have ever tried (I travel a lot), except ofcourse from my X1. Neither Pocket Internet Explorer nor Opera works; same result (Error Code 500: Internal Server Error).
I have retrieved the certificate from the mailserver, copied it to the X1, installed it and restarted the phone. Same result (doesn't work, same error code).
Is the access to webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange servers restricted on the X1? Can Exchange block access from cellphones? Is anyone reading this able to access Exchange webmail via SSL?
My ultimate goal is ofcourse to get the mail/calendar/tasks/contacts setup via ActiveSync but realize that I probably need to get this part with the webmail to work first. Colleagues of mine have successfully set it up on their iPhones, but ever since my first encounter with McIntosh back in 1984 ("an error of type -1 has occurred - Abort - Retry") I just can't stand that crap. I have no idea, but I doubt iPhones use ActiveSync.
if you know your Exchange webmail address, a WM phone can automatically configure Exchange. Open ActiveSync and on the right softkey menu, click "Configure Server" and type in your webmail address, username, pw etc and it'll automatically set up your server for push sync. If it works on an iPhone it is definitely enabled.
Close, but no cigar. The ActiveSync setup doesn't work and returns 0x85010004 "Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator." I have verified the right settings at least five times. It doesn't work.
Activesync needs to be configured separately on the exchange server to work wirelessly.
Have you tried to put /owa/ at the end of the URL in your browser?
Yes. No luck. When I enter the URL above in the address field of a browser and press enter it eventually (in the successful case) changes into something like https://webmail.myemployer.com/exchweb/... but this is not the case when trying to access same URL from the X1 (then it simply stops with the 500 error code).
Is anyone reading this able to access MS Exchange webmail over SSL with the X1?
This is strange. Have you tried your account on an iPhone? There might be a problem that is isolated to your account only.
Edit: If you are using Exchange 2003 this might be a server problem. Refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379
Yes, I Have
I access my company email account via MS exchange webmail on my X1. We dont use a 3rd party website, just type in the IP address of our server followed by "/exchange", dialogue box pops up for username and password and im in. Nothing had to be set up on the phone but, IE does not work ...has to be Opera and Im currently using the version that came with the phone.
I also had the same issue of Outlook Mobile Access disabled at Exchange, but Outlook Web Access enabled. Try Seven"Out Of Office" OWA connector or eMoze, both of them worked for me. Seven enabled GAL/Directory lookup as well...
Thanks. I tried adding /exchange without luck but was able to atleast get to the login page with the following URL (which I copied from my laptop after successful login): https://webmail.myemployer.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogon?curl=Z2F&reason=0&formdir=2. I can enter my user name and password and even click on "Login" before I get the 500 Internal Server Error message.
Strange...
I've also looked at Seven and emoze. Didn't even know they existed. Thanks for the tip! Seven seems operator dependant and as my operator charges €10 per month for it, it kinda fell out of the picture. Emoze can successfully fetch my e-mail through the OWA (webmail.myemployer.com + usr + pwd) and it works like a charm.
Almost...
Emoze has some pretty severe issues with its calendar synchronization in that it handles repeat calendar entries incorrectly. Emoze will keep adding duplicates of these in an eternal loop (about one duplicate per minute). I had to use a tool called Allcleanup to wipe all calendar entries. So a warning there. Also, emoze will add some corny "this mail sent by emoze" on all outgoing e-mails and this seems to be unavoidable, even in the pro version. Plus emoze handles character sets incorrectly (Scandinavian/German characters like ÅåÄäÖö are not translated correct). But if you "just" want to be up to date with your inbox, emoze works fine I guess. I now use GoogleSync and ActiveSync with Gmail and Calendar, emoze for work mail and contacts.

[Q] "Not trusted server certificate" exception with K-9 email

Does anyone know how I might go about solving this? I get this error in the log when I try to download mail from my Exchange server using K-9 email application:
IOException: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate
I am able to configure Touchdown as an alternative email app and it can successfully use SSL to retrieve my email from the same Exchange server. Also the standard email client app supplied on my phone is able to sync with Exchange ok.
When I had a Windows mobile phone previously I had a similar issue with Exchange syncing and it was solved by installing a copy of the certificate the Exchange administrator provided for me. Do I need to do the equivalent of this on Android to allow K-9 email to work?
Is there any reason you arent using the default client? Ive not had an issue with the one on 2.1 and Exchange 2007.
The default app doesn't show mail in html format
