[Q] nexus one frequently popping power menu after flex cable repair - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was rooting and flashing ROM on nexus 1 for the first time in my life, so i ran into some troubles but i managed to run cyanogenmod 10.1 by vj.
everything worked just fine except the power button. Checked the forums... and found it might be the flex cable. I sent the mobile to service center and i was told they replaced the flex cable. Okay fine. Now the issue is that the power button menu keeps popping up even without any touch/press on the button. If i just press the upper body of the phone itself this menu pops up. I cant play videos in landscape mode without popping this menu. Its killing my day and experience of the awesum rom. I checked it with the service centre and they say i need to change the panel. I dont know but i feel like they are ripping me off. If i deliberately power off, it somehow gets to boot up with the slightlest touch or shake :crying: Guys please help me.. thanks in advance..

Nexus One Power Button Issue

I have read many threads about the issues that the Nexus One has with the power button. I feel that my situation is a little different, so I wanted some opinions on this. My power button is completely unresponsive. I can't use it to turn the phone on, wake or lock my screen when the phone is on, etc. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently using the track ball to wake my phone, so I'm not having any real issues with day to day operations of my phone. I was completely convinced this was a hardware issue (and still am), but I wanted to be 100% sure it was a hardware issue before contacting HTC. I downloaded Quick Boot from the android market which allows you to reboot your phone, boot your phone into your Bootloader, and boot your phone into Recovery. I decided to boot my phone into Bootloader mode to see if the power button would work there. The power button didn't work in the Bootloader, but neither did the volume button (prior to this test, I had no issues with the volume rocker at all). I pulled the battery and let the phone boot up to check and make sure the volume button was still working when the phone was running. Once the phone was booted up, I had no issues with the volume controls. My question is why would the volume rocker not work in the Bootloader? Also, could the issue that prevents the volume rocker from working in the Bootloader be preventing the power switch from working while the phone is booted up? If there is a chance that it's a software issue, how would I test/correct the issue? Thanks your help.
Most people I have seen complain about that problem, send the phone back for a free repair because it's a hardware problem.
The best way to test it is to flash a stock rom.
Thank you, I will try reflashing the FRF91 stock firmware and see what happens. Thanks.
Definatly sounds like the power button is broken. I had one like that. Send it back for a repair/replacement.
I've checked my immediate suspicion, and it turned out to be correct - so I'm posting the result:
Your power button is actually stuck in "ON" position (pressed).
Anyone can test it, press the power button to wake up the screen, keep it pressed, every operation is allowed in the system and volume buttons work. But when you reboot and try the same in bootloader, having power button ON disables the rest of the buttons.
My screen doesn't wake when I press the power button. Any other ways to check if it's stuck in the "ON" position?
It's 100% determined by your description. The only other check would be running any kind of SW that shows the current key states, and I'm not aware of any such SW.
I've posted the checking procedure for people with working power buttons, so they can verify the findings.
Any way to fix the issue?
If you're technically inclined and can't use warranty, I suppose that getting to the power button and repairing/replacing it wouldn't be very difficult. But no other way I can think of.
has anyone tried to repair this?

A DIY can not be too difficult and you may be best to search YouTube. It can not be too terribly difficult as long as you can open it up and remove any connecting ribbons (I've had to replace my girlfriends iPhone digitizer due to phone falling out of back pocket onto concrete from three+ feet up). As long as you can open it, you're fine. Just going to need to re-seat the button. Good luck!
Greetings,
I had the same power button issue. I was able to wake my phone using the usb cable whenever the screen timed out but otherwise the phone worked 100% of the time in all ways. I got an RMA and label and shot the phone to them in an anti-static wrap with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides and foam padding on top of that. The phone was in perfect condition. Well to cut to the chase. I got a quote of 196.00 because they said there was water damage!? I treated that phone better than I treat my own body! There was no water damage when I sent it in. So one of their folks send me images of a phone that has a broken screen, water damage in the base usb port and no inscription. Interestingly all of the angles avoided showing the ein or s/n. My phone has a laser etched inscription with my name and a couple of bible verses. So what am I supposed to do here? Pay another 196 for an 800 dollar phone that had nothing wrong but a power switch? I am a T-Mobile customer and an Android developer in good standing. What the heck!? Can anyone give me a suggestion on how to get this squared away? My only other option is to send them $28 to get the phone back with the same power button issue. It's even under warranty until Jan 28th.

[Q] Galaxy note functional but screen stuck in 'sleep' ?!

Hi Guys,
I have a frustrating situation whereby my Galaxy Note powers on but the screen appears to be in permanent sleep mode - I get nothing but black on the screen.
You can here the Samsung chime as the phone powers up, I can adjust the volume button and hear audible tones. I can also call the mobile from another phone so the underlying phone/OS is working fine.
I can also connect the device via Kies USB and copy images/music with no issues.
I have tried removing the battery and replacing, I have also tried giving the device a full charge however I still get nothing on the screen.
Does anyone know if it's possible to perform some kind of hardware reset to get the screen to power back on? If not I guess i'll need to return the unit
p.s. Stock Galaxy Note
Thanks v much
Jeremy
Same problem for me , i have test many ROM and kernel but i still get the black screen. it's generally when i haven't use my phone during a couple hours.
Same issue here. The screen remains black and not responsive to front button or power button. I still am able to hear notifications (e.g. calendar reminders, plug in power, etc.).
Long press of power button to reboot is the only solution I have found in order to clear.
First occurrence yesterday after owning note for 1 month.
Second occurrence today.
Stock device. No root. KL7.
No newly installed apps prior to first occurrence. I will cross-check to see if any apps updated yesterday.
I have also disabled Green Power.
guys i have been owning note since past 45 days
and suddenly i faced the same problem today
when phone is in sleep and i receive a notification and press the home button
to wake the phone
i see only a black screen with a minute pink dot at top right
and the phone wont respond
however pressing the power button it brings the menu to switch and etc
so i can select power off and then again switch on the phone

[Q] Volume down button "stuck" /Hardware button is not stuck itself/

Hey guys, I got my Incredible S a while ago. It's a splendid phone. My dad gave it tome as a gift, he bought it from Singapore. I rooted and installed many roms over the course of having it. Up until today I was using the Revolutionary 2.3.0 rom. I was browsing a Diablo 3 app on the phone when suddenly my volume down button (without me pressing it) began to function on its own. I was like "Ok, just restart the phone, probably something bugged." After the restart nothing happened for a while until after 3 minutes its started vibrating in Vibrate mode (Displaying the volume rocker on-screen) I decided to change roms since I have some .zips laying around. I installed MIUI 2.1.16 (a fairly old version I know for certain is working) Still, the issue persisted and after another restart I cannot get past Hboot. My phone is stuck in Hboot cycling the options on its own (without entering them). All my other keys function perfectly except the media button. If anyone has experienced similar issues I'd love to hear some feedback. I've also searched other threads on here, NOTHING found so far.
Cheers,
d.lesov*
Take the back cover off and examine the actual hardware button that sits under the rocker switch. Perhaps it is stuck in the down position. See it you can get it to pop back up.
That was the first thing I did, the key is not stuck and I can freely press it. As a last resort I can send it to a local service shop but I'd like to see if I can manage this at home first. =)
Ok, fast update: by pressing the Volume UP button while pressing the Power button I managed to boot my phone into the rom itself. Now the Volume Down button does not function at all. I'll just run it through a local service shop and see if they can fix it. I was looking to buy a new phone anyways. Might keep this one as for my other carrier's sim card. =)

[Q] phone will not power off or on properly. Shut down menu pops up constantly

I have searched this exact title and came up with 10 pages and I never saw anyone else with this problem. Surely I cannot be the only one.
After the Gingerbread upgrade I was getting the tethering message/force close, during that time my phone started to randomly shut off ( settle down Beavis, this isn't the same question thats been asked a thousand times ) and reboot. I lived with the tethering message problem for as long as I could but my phone became more ignorant day by day. I finally found a fix for the tethering issue and haven't had a return problem with that but now my phone either stays in standby mode ( dark screen ) and refuses to respond to the hard button to wake it up OR once on it refuses to go into standby mode and stays on until I pop the battery or I go into settings and time the screen out in 15 seconds ( often times this doesn't shut it down either ). Sometimes I can get it to come on by multiple pressing the power button ( this can't be healthy ) and the lock screen will flash momentarily just long enough for me to unlock the screen. Other times it will go to the lock screen while I'm in the middle of something.
Every day at some point while it's on and I'm using it, the power button option screen pops up ( silent mode, flight mode, power off ). When I'm done with a call I try to go into standby and it just sets there...ON.
The thought has crossed my mind that the button doesn't work or has a short but I really think it's something else ( I hope ). Can somebody help me? I am not very techie although I have updated the phone three times myself. It is unrooted and 2.3.5
Thank you in advance
I would go with the power button. It's a known issue on captivate.

I stopped by the AT&T store the other day to check on insurance (ends up I didn't have it) and told them about my button not working properly and how the Captivate was notorious for this problem and they all said "We've never heard that". So the gadget gal is in there so she offers to take it apart and check it. She claims there isn't anything wrong with it and that it has the same amount of spring as the volume buttons. She then noticed that when she put the battery back in the phone came on automatically, I said it's not supposed to do that and she agreed but fortunate for me since I cannot turn it on. She then says I'm eligible for an upgrade and try's to sell me a new phone. I don't want a new contract.
So should I try and buy a new button and change it or could it be something else? Thank you in advance.
Are you using a case for your phone by any chance? If yes, is it too tight? Maybe the power button gets stuck because of that sometimes? Just a long shot! You stated that power menu pops up once in awhile when you're using it, is it possible that the way you grip the phone causes that? (Just trying to help and not trying to offend you btw.)
You might want to try flashing UCKK4 with bootloader(use it from the one click master collection of stock rom's) just to make sure that there is no issue with the firmware. It is not likely to fix your problem but it's good to have a clean start. At least that's what I would do to begin with.
Since you're willing to change the power button, why not do an experiment? Remove the power button and see if there is any change? If it works fine then it's the power button that's faulty else it's a hardware problem.

[Q] Power button broken, another way to boot the phone?

As the title reads I am quite sure that the power button is broke in some way or another on my HTC Desire C. I believe this since the phone is off and I cannot start it up with the power button. The reason I think that it is the power button that is broken and not something else is that when I plug it into the charger the battery shows up on the screen as always and says its charging.
Now, I wont be able to have it in for service in a couple of months and I really need the phone right now.
I could probably live with a broken power button if I just got it to boot up, which is the big problem here! I have googled for answers and found some saying for example that to charge it while popping out/in the battery in different ways will make it automatically boot up but nothing seems to work.
Is there any way to power it up without using the power button?
(Probably a good thing to say that I am not using any kind of custom rom or whatever, everything is stock)
Would be really awesome if someone could help!
