[Q] NOOB here :) Wi-Fi not functioning on custom ROMs - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hey there,
I have a factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy SIII, international, GT-I9300, freshly rooted and using CWM-based recovery v5.5.0.4::CF - v1.5.
Today I've flashed 2 custom ROMs, by following some guides that I've found (cannot post yet links):
1. Android 4.3 via SuperNexus: URL hidden
and after the SuperNexus this one:
2. Android 4.3 via ParanoidAndroid 3.97 ROM: URL hidden
Managed to flash these two successfully, but with both of them I've faced the same problem during initial device setup: could not connect to my Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi signal was strange too: strong, then suddenly weak. Could not authenticate and connect. :crying:
So, fortunately, made a backup before these two ROM flashes, so I guess I'm back with my stock Samsung TouchWizzy ROM (Android 4.1.2). That I hate. I want something bloatware free, stock-android feel, something like my Nexus 7 tablet.
Can you suggest me a "Wi-Fi capable" Android 4.3 ROM or am I missing something? Maybe a Radio flash (have no idea what's that) but maybe that what I was missing? And if I do that somehow, is that reversible?
Thank you in advance for any help and suggestion! :good:
Best,
sz
**EDIT: Oops, maybe this is not the best place to post, because it's not Verizon, it's international, unlocked.** sorry, delete this thread

Some early 4.3 ROMs for the Verizon S3 had singer WiFi connection issues. They were fixed simply by rebooting.

[Q] SGS I9003, please assisst me, total noob here

i'm a total noob at SGS and Android.
can anyone tell me what things i need to do to use most of my SGS?
and also tell me about rooting and updating the Android OS, do i always have to do the rooting process everytime i update my Android OS?
i just totally need someone who can guide me from the very start.
EDIT:
Model Number: GT-I9003
Baseband version: I9003JXKP3
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-CL694758
[email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.JPKPA
i can't seem to find any kernel that is suited for my phone in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225879
does this mean i can't root or install custom ROM's?
I suggest you start by reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939752 and

Yeah there are many threads to read from. I suggest trying either DarkyRom 10.4.2 or CyanogenMod 7.1
ICS isn't really noob friendly atm.

give me a good reason why i should stay with a stock firmware?
what about those Custom ROMs?
some of them are very interesting to try.
i might even re-partition my SGS, so i can learn how to update, root, and install ROM's myself.
i'm not even sure if my phone already has a MOD in it or if its already rooted, i still don't have it now. but i'll have it this weekend.

+1
Each ROM is customised differently with different features. Basically stay stock if you do not know what features you want.
DO NOT flash a any ROM until you have backed up your EFS folder (google hint = IMEI).
If you ask what is your EFS folder you are not ready for a non stock ROM.
On most proper instructions for flashing a rom, EFS backup step is compulsory.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
If you really need a reason to stay on stock:
1. You need to get used to the phone.
2. You never flashed SGS until now.
3. You have not read anything the other forum colleagues gave you.
4. You did not even tried to search the forums before posting this.
5. You might brick the device and then get back here and complain.
Need more? Sorry, but before posting you, and others that want everything on a plate, should use search and read everything posted here.
The "Galaxy S I9000 General" section clearly says: Discussion about the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 (tips & tricks, etc)
Every custom rom has a "How To" section in the OP. Also, every rom has a "What to do in case of" section. So you can try it on your own. There were cases in which the owner hardbricked the device in the first 45 minutes after he received it. So be careful.
i don't know what EFS even mean.
i'm just lazy to read all of it and there's not much i can understand.
so maybe you're all right that i stay with the stock firmware.
my phone still hasn't arrived, i'll just post here again what firmware it has and how should i update it.
btw, one more thing, so custom ROM's acts like a customized Android firmware, is that right?
and thanks for everyone who replies here and gives me their advices.

dare i say it and get flamed you should use Samsung Kies to get the latest Firmware available for your handset. If Kies says no newer updates available and you want a newer ROM you will have to get un-lazy and READ

will Android 4 (ICS) ever come to SGS(1)?

This has been covered on many threads/forums. Samsungs stance is that the hardware in the SGS 1 can not run with Touchwiz on top of ICS

Again many this has been covered on many threads relating to flashing ICS ROMS in particular. Flashing can result in the IMEI number being over written Your IMEI is stored encripted in a file contained in the EFS folder (IMEI = unique number that identifies your handset on the mobile networks) and then not being able to make or recieve phone calls in extreme examples to random apps downloading from google play or not able to access google play at all.
For more info on this i strongly suggest that you google "backing up EFS folder" and "backing up IMEI"

but there's a custom ROM that has been leaked that looks like Android 4 (ICS).
will there be a Android 2.4?
i never knew that Android needs a lot of work compared to iOS where it just needs to be jailbreak for you to have the freebies and to be open source.
Iphones run on a common HARDWARE
Android have many different versions of hardware ie Samsung, HTC etc etc etc
Each android phone requires the base code of Android to be customised with device specific drivers etc hence the difference between Android and Iphones.
Your wording is exactly that "CUSTOM" meaning not a Samsung ROM.
As stated before Samsungs stance with the SGS 1 is that they will not release ICS for the handset as there is not enough available RAM (memory) for ICS and their Touchwiz apps
i think i want to install a ROM if i get my Galaxy S by tomorrow.
which one is much better?
CyanogenMOD or DarkyROM?
is this link below the instructions on how to root my phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7152078&postcount=2
should i root my phone first?
or should i already go with the install of CyanogenMOD or DarkyROM?
how do i even know if my phone has already been rooted?
I updated the 1st post with more details.
i have my phone, its model is SGS I9003.
too bad Lexrsk can't help me further but i hope someone can guide me in rooting my phone.
please look the updated details on the 1st post.
can i even do the rooting on my phone?

[Q] Galaxy Tab p1c CDMA constant restarts

I have tried numerous roms with this tab since I have bought it, all 4.0+.
I didn't try any Gingerbread roms much, and flashed cm9 almost as soon as I bought it.
No rom remains stable without force closing every app upon launching for more than a week. Even the stable 9.1.0 CM9.
Is this a frequent problem with ICS/JB? I had the same problem with a family member's Ainol Novo Elf II, which i just shipped back for returns because of it.
Or is this problem hardware related, being that no rom will work?
Also I tried to flash Galaxy Cubed from the latest CM10, but it gave me an error.
Is there a file to restock this tablet? Such as an sbf file like some phones use?
Please don't flame me for not researching, because I tried with google, but it left a lot to be desired, and much of the info is now outdated.
Thank You for your help in advance!!
you can try EF17 stock rooted rom from this one.

Thank You! I will try that tomorrow. My tab is Verizon CDMA, that shouldn't make a difference even though that says sprint correct?
should not matter, but actually I don't have a CDMA device.
Only so far seems like that thread has the working stock rom for CDMA.
I guess you can use it just to restock, put CWM, then you can put Galaxy Cubed
Thread moved. Please post in the correct section in future.
Thanks

[Q] Telstra GT I9305T Roms

I'm just wondering if there were any ROM's that supported the GT I9305T and where can find them. If at all possible, how do I install them as well.
Another thing would be that I've already rooted my ROM with Chain Fires Auto Root Method. Was there a proper CWM recovery anywhere as well?
Any help would be appreciated.

I put CWM Touch, latest build on mine and am running txr33's Ripper Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943099
Found I had to reflash the kernel each time after a new flash build as it wouldn't connect to the radio for some reason.
Absolutely loving it though.

Yes, same once again =) it will work with the i9305T =)
EDIT; the only minor thing you may have to worry about is the modem, as some i9305 ones may not give you as good coverage/ data speeds... however all ROMS iv'e come across have no included a modem so i still have the stock modem that came with the phone which works best (Telstra AUS)

The Recovery worked and I'm going to back up my IMEI / NV Data before I try a custom ROM.
HTC Desire was a lot easier than this.
Just backed up everything and I'm going to try a Custom Rom when I find one I like.
I'm also wondering if we should make an INDEX Thread for all the I9305 - I9305T Devices for things like latest ROMS and How To's. It would make finding everything easier and we would be able to keep up to date.

Hey, everyone! This is my first post on XDA, though I'm a long time reader. These boards have been very helpful to me but there are still some questions that I haven't been able to find the answer for, with one of them being the topic of this thread.
So, I also own i9305N version of Samsung Galaxy S3 and since there are no custom ROMs made specifically for my version of the phone, I was wondering if flashing a ROM made for i9305 (say, PAC-ROM or Carbon ROM) would result in my phone malfunctioning or becoming completely unusable.
Thank you in advance for your help.

First thing you have to do is install CWN recovery, you can find all the info you need in this forum.
Make sure you have the correct Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G also, this forum is for the SGH-T679. I think there are a few different versions of the Galaxy Exhibit now. You can check by going to Settings > About phone and looking at the Model number. You can also check the label that's under the battery. It will brick your phone if you flash anything from this forum and you don't have the T679! If you do have the T679 though, follow the link that @Dvarl posted to get started. The version of CWM that is linked there is kind of old, but once you install that you can use it to upgrade to one of the newer versions in the Android Development forum.
The first thing you should do once you get CWM installed is use the backup feature to make a copy of your current stock ROM in case something goes wrong!
All of the custom ROMs should already have root access included. Let us know how it goes.
