[Q] no sd card access - schizoid 4.2.2 - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed jcsullins schizoid 4.2.2 (version 2.11, the latest) and everything went fine, I made a backup, I was on 4.1.2 jc sullins cm. I wiped the cache and the dalvik cache and everything works great except for the sd card, it does not recognize it. The icons for the apps that were on the sd card now say app is not installed, should I wipe the system data and the caches?
Reflash schizoid?
at this point I am thinking of flashing another rom using the pc since the tp will not let me d/l anything, I had default location set to sd card, do not know how to change it.
thank you

BTW, jcsullins probably deserves credit for Schizoid more than I do...

That is where i got the rom (schizoid 2.11) that I flashed and ended up with no access to the sd card. I performed a restore on my nandroid backup and so have access again. Was going to try the evervolv rom or the 0808 test build by jcsullins, what do you think?
Also should i only wipe the cache/dalvik cache or do a wipe of the system also, want to be able to restore backup if I do not care for the newer rom and not sure if I will be able to if I do a system wipe

No advice on the ROM, pick whatever makes you happy, but I've had no one else report issues with the sdcard on Schizoid. Doing a system wipe will not prevent you from restoring a nandroid backup.

[Q] Phone crashes during apps installation

Hi everyone,
Since a month I'm trying some custom ROMs, but I'm experiencing the same behavior with every ROM (but one, CM Build46), the Phone crashes and reboot when I try to install an app.
I tried :
- flashing the kernel to HCDR4.1
- installing the apps using Titanium Backup (installed through Clockwork Recovery)
- ROMs :
- CM 6.1 RC2
- CM 6.1 Stable
- Builds 48,50,52,53,60 (until today)
- Wildpuzzle
- DK Custom Froyo
I'm tired of the Build 46 now ! And I accidentally erased the Original ROM
Please, tell me someone else got the same problem and found a solution !
Thanks
The solution was to wipe the dalvik cache & format the SD Card.
But please, don't make the same mistake as I, save "your" files, but also the Nandroid backups, it's safer

Do you use an ext Partition ? -> >Yes, is the partition full or Corrupted ?
Did you done a full wipe / clear cache and clear dalvik cache before install ?
If all not help. Backup your personal files from your SD-Card and reformat the card. One time , i had a similar problem, which i solved with formating my sd-card. DonĀ“t copy the . Folders . Backup only your Files (Titanium Backup etc.). Try it first without an EXT Parition. Format the Card with Windows to FAT32
I don't use Ext partition and i usually wipe cache partition and factory reset but didn't try the dalvik wipe cache ...
In last ressort i will try the format.
I'll inform you if it works.
Thanks

Ok! Just try Clearing all the 3 things (Clear Dalvik Cache, Clear Cache, Full WIPE),after that Reflash Custom Rom, then clear Dalvik Cache and normal Cache. Then boot an wait. First boot could take a few minutes. After full first os loading (another cup of coffee later , ~5min) try App Installations again.
Damnit ! Still the same problem after the clear cache etc !
last option : I'll format the SDCard and reflash the rom afterward...
It cost me so much time :-(
OMG, I saved "my" files from the SD Card before formating it...
but I obviously forgot that the Nandroid backup was ALSO on the SD Card...
I'm gonna cry
Lucky !
The format worked perfectly and now the phone does not crash when I install an app !!!
For the moderator : you can close the thread because it's fixed !
Thanks for the help Deep-Knight and Thanks for this answome ROM (v4.2) ;-)

Constant android.process.media force closes [CM7.0.3] [4/24OC][verygreen SD]

Does anyone have any advice? My system was very stable, then I upgraded my uboot and flashed the 3.1 beta. The beta performed terribly, so I flashed back to the build in the title, and now all these force closes. I did install Pure Messenger and Pulse in the meantime and put up some widgets.
I'm planning to try out Phiremod on eMMC and see how that works out, but if there's a fix for this issue, I'd like to try it out. I have CWM on eMMC, but I'm thinking if I clear caches in there, it will be the caches in my stock OS install on eMMC, correct? Can I point it to the SD install?

Boot into Clockwork. Under Mounts / Storage wipe cache, then go into "advanced" and wipe dalvik cache (will cause your device to lock & need hard reboot). Then boot your machine as normal. Load time will be a little on the long side because your Nook will be rebuilding cache...perfectly normal. This has to be done when going back to the stables from the Beta CM7.

But again, with CWM on eMMC and CM7 on SD, won't that wipe the caches for the stock install on eMMC rather than for CM7?
That method did not work, btw, I'm guessing because it wasn't wiping the caches for the ROM on the card. Any way to do this for a verygreen SD install?

In terminal emulator, su then rm /data/dalvik-cache/*
Just go to settings, applications, manage application, in the all tab, find "media storage" if I remembered correctly, then go in and clear data, reboot then you should be fine.

[Q] Apps from older ROM still in SD card after flash

I flashed my i9000m from Stock ROM to a i9000 ROM, then to ICS (CM9). Everything works perfectly. No complaints. The only thing that bugs me is I still have 1GB left of space, when I have no access to the older apps that I had previously. Could they all be backed up somewhere?
I made sure to Data Wipe and Cache Wipe before installing ICS, before and after. Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks

Yup. I data wiped, but I guess that didn't work properly.
Any other way to remove excess apps? I don't know which is which using file manager.
By "Data Wipe" it means deleting files from /data, /system, /datadata, /cache and dalvik cache. Not Internal_SD and External_SD, as it not picks which file is used or which not.
If you want to clear EVERYTHING (all data on phone - to make as "just bought") you need to tick Repartition in Odin. That removes every piece of info on your phone.
simply do factory reset/format before doing any firmware update and after update, after update u can delete all sd-card files or do format it by going into setting sd options.

[Q] My phone stuck on android logo [CM10]

hey people.
first sorry about my english.
I have a problem when I install cm10 [the last nightly build] its stuck on androig logo.
I try more nightly builds and also them stucks.
what can i do ?
Which rom were you using previously? Stock, CM7, CM10 or other?
If not CM10, you need to create and ext partition on your sd-card! You will find a great tutorial in my signature (or use MiniMod OR's SD Tools Menu).
So all you need to do is:
1) Create a decent (at least 512MB) sd-ext partition.
2) Wipe everything (cache,dalvik-cache and even data). (Backup all your data before)
3) Install the latest nightly and GApps.

i want to install CM10 .
If there is a better Rom tell me..
Follow the guide in my signature. It is for CM7 but the process is the same for CM10.
The only difference is for CM10 the sd-ext partition is a must. (At least 512mb)
....
I dont understand this.
I was used CM10 14/8/2012 and it work well but it have bugs and i back to CM9.
Now have alot of new builds and they have the same promblem with the android logo.
Tell me what your CM10 build ...
Create an ext partition on your sdcard.
(Follow the guide to know how to do it)
Make sure it is at least 512MB.
After it is done, flash the latest build and your good to go.
....
Hey again..
before i do this levels and wipe my phone i wanna to know if CM10 worth that.
have any special bugs?
your phone carsh alot?
thank you !!
Make a nandroid backup and see for yourself.
If you're not satisfied -> restore the backup

[Q] Cleaning up the system?

I have flashed a bunch of different ROMs lately. I always wipe cache, dalvik and do a factory reset but maybe it may no longer be enough. Currently, my phone is rooted with Cocore and CWM. I am thinking about going to CM11. Last time I tried that, I noticed some stuff during setup was overlooked because it already seemed to be there. So I think some bits and pieces are left in the phone. Therefore, I want to "scrub" it before trying another ROM (thinking CM11 this time). I know the CM kernel comes with it.
questions:
1) Can I just mount and reformat system, data, cache and preload to clear everything out before flashing a new ROM?
2) Will the kernel be protected (in this case is CoCore) after reformating or should I worry about it?
3) When I flash the original stock 4.1.2 from Odin, does it completely reformat everything when it loads onto the system?

Some information are stored on internal SD memory. Maybe it was there. Try to delete it. Backup SD to PC, format it - do factory reset and see if it is happening again.

If I backup the internal SD card to the PC and then restore after a reformat, won't the offending bits come back again?

I did not tell you to restore it. Keep it on PC, in case you need some of data from there. Maybe you erase some picture that you need or something like that. And not to blame me later. :fingers-crossed:
