UPDATE 14/9/2013
I have managed to fix the problem!!!!
Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441854
What I did:
1-Flashed fresh uk generic 254 ftf. with full wipe. when done, confirm offline charging is working. WAIT FOR STARTUP CHECKPOINTS TO FINISH! and a big POWER OFF button will appear, Press it and phone will reboot. power off normally and check offline charging, if not try repair with SUS or PCC. ***VERY IMPORTANT! Confirm offline charging is functioning before going any further!***
2- Download vroot from link above, unzip it and run it, allow it to update.
3-Connect your SP to PC (maybe important? make sure PCC/SUS/flashtool are not running)
4-Click the ROOT button in VROOT - wait for confirmation - phone will reboot
5-you will now have root, but the superuser app is chinese.
6-Download Superuser by ChainsDD from playstore (superSU and cwm superuser caused rebootloop in my phone - ChainsDD did not)
7- open ChainsDD superuser app, chinese superuser will ask to grant superuser permissions - accept it
8- in ChainsDD superuser, go to info, tap to check for updates, then click update button - this updates superuser binary
9-uninstall chinese superuser app. i used titanium backup.
10- ENJOY YOUR ROOT WITH OFFLINE CHARGING WORKING!
I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU MESS UP YOUR PHONE - THIS HAS WORKED FOR ME - IT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU.
Please press thanks! :good:
Ok, so some of us are unable to charge the phone while it's switched off after rooting, the phone turns itself back on.
There must be 1 common factor why this is happening. Let's try to find out what it is, and hopefully devs can help us.
Please report the following :
Is offline charging working:
Model number:
Bootloader locked/unlocked:
Bootloader unlock status (yes/no):
Simlock:
Rooting method:
Now, I don't know if any of the aforementioned are possible causes of this issue, but they could be.
Please keep the thread clean and simple, I don't want any arguments, or people saying it can't be this or that, I had enough of that when I was trying to prove that unlocking bootloader broke bravia engine in Xperia s. And it turned out I was right.
This is just a simple data gathering exercise to attempt to determine a common factor for this issue.
I have had this problem with both 245 and 254 fw.

Well, it seems so far there isn't a common factor...
@zolaisugly, yours is working, did you start with a fresh/clean install? I.e. No user apps, nothing set up? Wonder if that's it?

Are you saying root 254 then flash 245 without kernel? so your running 245 fw with 254 kernel?? Or is that 245 a typo?

why should Battery Calibration wipe our data ? it just doesn;t make sense but i just want to confirm if it is inherent part of flashtool battery calibration.

Here's what i did when I got my Sp from 3 store UK. I was excited that there was updates available i was on .211 at first, but sad as no root or cwm available, but still updated to .257 using Russian ftf. (Then when available I updated to .245 this was after root and cwm were available) From this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44550360
After upgrading then loaded all my apps and data etc, then came root using doomlord method, then installed cwm. I have deodexed using a deodexed ROM but still based on Russian firmware.
Maybe that is the key...use Russian ftf
I have not tried any of the mods posted here but do use the xframework and modules to get the phone how I like.
Guess I have been lucky as regards the offline charging, but not so lucky as i suffer with poor WiFi signal.
Sorry for the long ramble but just thought I would write the whole process of how and what I have done.

Battery calibration is nothing to do with flashtool and it doesn't wipe data. When you flash a new fw the phone will go through a self test process, then come up with a screen with a big button saying POWER OFF and a little one saying use phone.

ok. Thanks. my thought exactly. we could just untick and tick the boxes of items we want to keep or wipe. Hopefully, there is a way to resolve this offline charging issue soon. I had the same problem but it is much less of a problem to me as I hardly power down my phone.

Hmm, it's not worked for me...
I first rooted when 257 was latest fw, which was ok - no offline charging issue, but nfc wouldn't work.
I then flashed the Russian 245 with flashtool (with full wipe) - which caused me to lose root, this is where I first got charging issue.
Repaired with sus and all good.
so I tried again, rooted by rolling back kernel to 257, using the doomlord method then back to 245 kernel, charging issue came back, I also had issue with nfc again.
I then repaired with sus and went back to 100% stock (Russian 245) and all was working ok, but no root.
Next, I went to a generic 211, updated to 245 with pcc (this was before 254 was available) rooted again by doom method, charging bug is back. But nfc ok.
Most recently I've flashed a UK generic fw but did ota update from 211 to 245, rooted by doom method again, bug is back. I've then updated to 254 with pcc as no ota notification, so I now have no root and no offline charging! Again, nfc ok.
I'll have a bit more of a tinker this weekend. Might start from scratch with my original Orange/ee fw and see how it goes.

I had successfully upgraded to Android 4.2.2 using PC Companion. I decided to install CM10.1. So I backed up my TA Partition, unlocked the bootloader and installed CM10.1. It was running fine but I noticed that my phone cannot connect to my network. Baseband is shown as unknown and there is no IMEI. So I reverted back to .307 TW version and relocked the bootloader. Now when I upgrade to 4.2.2 version, my phone boots and after few seconds it tells me that system has stopped responding and if I want to wait or reboot the system. No matter what I select my phone reboots. This keeps on happening. I've now reverted back to .307 version. Please help!!!!

It happened to me as well, SUS won't help. Follow this steps and u shud get ur dead device back to life.
1. Flash .307 TW ftf (wipe everything) (Indian ftf recommended for u)
2. Root it using Doom's tool kit (connect it to flashtool to get device busybox n bla bla)
3. Download ta partition tool v8.0 (this version worked for me, i tried all from v9.3 to v8.0) (Ver 8.0 asks for IMEI no. used to unlock, keep ur IMEI no. (15 digits) handy
4. If ta restore is successful and still u don't get ur baseband back, do this: Flash .307 EXCLUDE PARTITION
5. Reboot and u shud get ur IMEI, Baseband and ur XZ back
try it...
PM me if u need any help.
Good Luck!

It didn't in my case. I upgraded my phone from .434 (Indian) to .423 using PC Companion. The phone reboots every time.
Just to be sure, please give Update Service a try:

It's a lot more robust than PC Companion.
Yes right, or else just flash with flashtool...

I have a c6902 in the USA on Tmobile. I used Pc companion to update to stock .290 firmware (Jellybean 4.3), lost root (and thought I was fine without it).
I read a thread about downgrading using FTF on flashtool and that your sim card won't work correctly? (I think that's what i read).
I just wanted to know is this correct or did I misread something?
I'm wanting to revert to the firmware before .290, looking at the FTF thread it looks like .257 is what i need, but Which of the three?
my software id is: C6902 R4B
C6902 14.1.G.2.257 Commercial/Journalist 1277-1348_R1A
C6902 14.1.G.2.257 Generic IN 1277-2364_R5A
C6902 14.1.G.2.257 Generic TH 1276-7160_R4A
Is there anything else I should know or do before downgrading? (aside from making a TA backup?)
I want to downgrade to gain full root again, and the minor annoyances I'm encountering will go away too (mainly sound output issues since upgrading; i.e lost the stock tones i was using for alarms and phone has been rebooted a few times to make notification/ringtones output {stock and custom})
Sorry for my noobishness, (cut my teeth on android using htc phones for the past 3-4 years, this Z1 is slightly foreign to me)
That is correct, you'll lose sim card detection like I did. I used the sony PC Companion to reset my phone (so I got sim detection back), then followed this guide:
http://techbeasts.com/2013/12/19/in...ng-latest-14-2-0-a-290-firmware-how-to-guide/
Took less than 20 minutes and was so easy.

So you downgraded, used pc companion to repair your problem while on .257, rooted, upgraded then rooted again?
Following that guide, I have a locked bootloader currently. If I unlock it on .290, do I lose any functionality or does the phone just factory reset?

I tried flashing back to .534 from .290 after I upgraded to 4.3. It kept boot looping then bricked.
Simply, you have 2 solutions to downgrade without losing SIM signal.
1- Downgrade from 290 to 257, then from 257 to 534 (then root then OTA to 257 if you downgraded to root it).
2- When downgrading from 290 to 534, exclude "Baseband" in Flashtool and you'll be good to go.

The only problem I have is I can't find ftf in the ftf thread for my c6902 that matches my id
sent from my rooted Xperia Z1
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* then go to service info then software info and see what is your customization number and look for that number in the ftf thread.
If you want to go back to 257 for root, then you have 2 options:
1- flash 257, then 534, root and OTA to 257.
2- flash 534 and exclude baseband then, root and OTA to 257.

Yes, and I'm not sure if the initials in the files stand for the region it is from.
there are three possible files for me to download for the c6902:
IN
TH
journal/commercial
No idea what the differences are.
By the way...unlocking the bootloader did wipe my phone/factory reset it. Oh well I was prepared none the less...
I just realized I didn't reset the usb debugging/dev options, which is why the fastboot isn't working damnit lol...
EDIT----got fastboot working, just can't get the recovery to work. I press up then down, blue light flashes then phone boots to home screen, not recovery.
EDIT---- apparently the key sequence is hold up then press down but keep holding up? can anyone confirm this for me?
Final EDIT-----GOT IT ALL WORKING.... thanks for the help everyone...

After deleting the screen you will get a blanc black screen after sony logo or you can replace it with something else but actually I don't know if it's that easy to do.
If you are on 4.2 you can flash a unbranded FTF Android 4.3 update without unlocking bootloader or rooting and probably you will lose the screen after sony logo.

No, official 4.3 (290) for you will still have the T-Mobile boot animation. You will need to flash a generic 290 FTF. Because you are flashing a stock FTF, it is not necessary to unlock BL or root.
I don't think you should lose warranty, but if you take it back into T-Mobile they'll probably wonder why all the T-Mobile stuff is missing.

You will lose Warranty if you Unlock Bootloader Only. You will not lose your Warranty if you will root your phone or deleting T-Mobile bloatware.
Yes, Official FTF in your case will have the T-Mo logo and all the t-mo bloatware.
The solution if to flash a Unbranded Generic TFT .290, it's a full rom 4.3, and flash it via Flashtool v0.9.13. To do that you don't need root or unlocked bootlader.
Doing this you will not have T-Mo logo and bloatware but you will lose all the data on your phone because is raccomended a fresh installation with wipe Data, Cache and Appslog.
You can still not losing your data if you uncheck Wipe Data but is not recommended.
I brought the phone in Poland and I flashed a generic NCB FTF .290 and is working flawlessly in all europe.
All what you need is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
Good luck.
There are apps to change the boot animation but requires root, go to pay store and search "change bout animation" and select the app you want.
Don't forget that it requires root.

Yes, like the instructions. I give you few tips: backup all what you need to SD, switch off your phone and keep pressing volume down and connect to pc via usb, keep pushing the volume down all the time when do this, let windows install the drivers and when your phone will be connected in Flashmode open the Flashtool, select the firmware (put the firmware in the flashtool folder) leave the flashtool in default and flash the FTF, remember to keep pushing volume down all the time, when the green bar of the progress will start you can leave your phone alone.
All the FTF XXX.X.A.0.290 in the list are Android 4.3, download Central Europe if you are there and flash. You can use also NCB.

Not yet and no guarantee it will be. BTW, this Kitkat at the moment is not a big deal. Have a lot of issues. Stay with 4.3 for now. It's just an advice.
Hello this is my first post , I am a newbe.....

could you give me an help please ?
No easy method work for now. Only solution is downgrade to 4.1, root and flashing some rom based on .199 build. Or there is some script that should help you retain root with OTA upgrade, but you still need to downgrade to 4.1.

I am very grateful to you. you saved me from headache....
I would like to take advantage of your willingness to ask a few questions....
I have done a firmware backup using the SUS and Flashtool.
Bootloader is locked at this time on my V.
I would like to know if I can install cyanogenmod 11 and in the future I can back to previous original firmware "tft" using this Flashtool procedure ?
-how to install the newest Android 4.3 for Sony XPERIA V LT25
-paste the ftf file downloaded in step c) to folder „Firmware“ included in the XPERIA Flashtool.
-open the XPERIA Flashtool, click on flash and choose downloaded firmware, than click ok.
-turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button
-after few minutes all is done and your phone gets the new firmware
Installing CM11 Xperia V is automatically rooted ?
Back to previous original xperia firmware, using flashtol, remains something of CyanogenMod ? Device returns unrooted ?
Thank You

First of all CM won't work with locked bootloader, and you can't install it using Flashtool. It contains Superuser app so it's rooted.
You can always flash your device with Flashtool using .ftf files to return it to stock firmware.
If you choose to unlock bootloder consider backing up TA partition of phone (there's a tool for that here but the phone has to be rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598) so you can restore your DRM keys later (if you return to stock firmware and you want to have Bravia engine and the rest of the stuff dependent on DRM).

yesterday unfortunately, I made confusion between ROOTING and UNLOOK BOOTLOOADER so I have unlocked bootloder using flashtool and the day after I have re-locked it. Have I lost sony DRM ?
I think no... becouse I don't make changes that affected device partition, is it correct ?
So I ve got to wait for better and simple method to root my device before make other experiment, what do you think about it ?

I think you lost it when you unlocked it cause TA partition got formated, it doesn't matter if you relock it afterwards.

Check if in the Album app if pictures change when using Bravia Engine; if you didn't back up your TA partition before unlocking, as far as I know, you lost your DRM keys forever, relocking won't change a thing.

CONFIRMED I lost DRM keys...
At this Point I decide to dance, I' ll downgrade to a version to root device by doomLord patch first. I found a post in which users explain how to install Bravia Engine 2 using PimpMyRom App. Finally I Will upgrade to Last Xperia firmware.... And I' ll do a big backup!!!
Are you according to me? You suggest to me something different?
I'd not worry much abt Bravia Engine. The pics appears slightly brighter, shadows are therefore a bit better, and the colours are a tiny whee little bit more vibrant. If I had to put it into a number the difference is somewhere below the 10 % mark %. You get better results by taking pictures properly in the first place.

It would be better to unlock bootloader again and then root flashing some custom kernel.
Something like this:

Mate, if you don't understand what's written there than consider not to play much with your phone. It's still an expensive peace of hardware to get messed up.

I'm sorry for my bad English ....
I have not paid enough attention this morning as I read the post.
it would seem easier after reading the post a second time...
- I NEED -
SuperSU Install zip
Doomkernel v08 kernel.elf file
" ATTENTION Doomkernel v08 is for xperia T while Doomkernel v07 for xperia V according to the post : forum.xda-developers.com - Doomkernel v07 for xperia V & require stock JellyBean FW (9.1.A.1.140) "
Sony stock 4.3 kernel, attached to the post.
Flashtool to Unlock Boot Loader
Fastboot mode -> Holding down the power and volume up
A brain and common sense.
1) by FLASHTOOL -> install the stock Android 4.3 FTF*
2) by FLASHTOOL -> fastboot mode and install the v08 Doomkernel kernel.elf
3) by FLASHTOOL -> upon boot, go into recovery**, and install the zip SuperSU normally
4) by FLASHTOOL -> fastboot mode install the provided stock Sony 4.3 Kernel
5) Unplug your phone, boot it, and there you go, rooted stock Android 4.3.
* Which version of latest stock rom do you suggest for my V :
- the first that I downloaded from xperiafirmware.com 9.2.A.1.199.
- the second created (after installation of the first) with Sony Update Service SUS , decrypted by Flashtool and saved into .tft format ?
** ..."go into recovery" is automated upon boot ?
At the end can I lock the boot loader to recive pc companion updates ?

Doomkernel v8 is also for 4.1.2. As far as I understood you don't have to power on your phone completely in step 3, only to boot to recovery.

You just use exploitability of custom kernel with recovery inside.

Hello,
I have a Bell Canada Xperia Z1 C6906 (Locked Bootloader) on 14.3.A.0.757 that is unrooted and I would like some help/advice about rooting it with the least amount of distress since while I need the features provided by rooting I cannot afford to brick my phone. So any help would be very much appreciated.
I have looked through the information and I will provide what I know below - is it correct, is there more I need to do?
Install Flashtool and all drivers.
Backup my TA partition for future reference/restoration.
Download FTF firmware that is version .534 - I found C6906 14.1.G.1.534 Rogers CA (which should be compatible even though its Rogers and I have Bell?) and flash it via flashtool.
Root the Xperia Z1 with 360Root.
Download the NUT's latest locked dual recovery
Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.123-BETA.installer.zip (10.22MB) and follow the instructions from [DEVDB][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery 2.7.1XX RC
Download C6906_14.2.A.0.290.flashable.zip and C6906_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf, place *flashable.zip on the SDCard and *Stripped.ftf in the Flashtool/firmware folder.
Create a full backup of my phone through TWRP
Wipe Dalivik-Cache, System, Data, Cache.
Flash " C6906_14.2.A.0.290.flashable.zip", power off. In Flashtool flash everything (check mark System, data etc ?) for "C6906_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf". Reboot and on language select reboot into TWRP and restore DATA backup. Wipe Dalivik-Cache and reboot.
Update to the newest version of Android - download C6906_14.3.A.0.757.flashable.zip and C6906_14.3.A.0.757_Stripped.ftf from [STOCK][C69XX][4.4] Update to 14.3.A.0.757 [Root & XZDR][DE-/ODEX] by NUT. Place *flashable.zip on the SDCard and *Stripped.ftf in the Flashtool/firmware folder.
Repeat step 7-9.
Should have a rooted newest version of the Xperia Z1?
Did I miss anything or make it too complex? It seems like a lot of steps just to have a rooted and up to date phone.
Don't use 290 version, use 534.
There's a lot bricked device reported when guys flashed 290 over 757 and version before 757 (can't remember number of that version).
Also, if you don't plan to unlock bootloader there's no need to backup TA, it's OK to do that but it's not necessary.
You can't lose DRM keys as long as you don't unlock it.
And yeah...use binary root method (just Google "binary root method xda" and pick first result.
360 and Kingo are banned from XDA because they read and store your IMEI (and that's totally unnecessary)

So I should just stay with .534 and not upgrade at all? I was hoping for an up-to-date version since some of the features in 4.4 are really useful to me.

Hehe....no
Just use 534 to downgrade and root and install recovery.
Then flash NUT 757 prerooted ROM from recovery and flash stripped ftf (kernel) using flashtool.
Only thing what I wanna said is - flash 534 and root it don't use 290 - downgrading from 757 to 290 could brick your device...

Ok!
So downgrade to .534, do binary root, install DualRecovery and then just flash .757.
Also I keep seeing you need to reflash DualRecovery, would I do so after flashing .757?
No need to apply a root process if you are installing dual recovery
