School is starting soon, and I listen to alot of music while at it, so I need your help choosing the best ROM with better battery usage for music, etc.
What I need is a fast and stable rom, lag free, that lasts for at least half a day listening to music, and that it' capable of sending multiple text messages, take some pictures and sometimes surf the web while at home.
So, apart from that and all the basic stuff a phone does, I don't need anything else like OC and stuff.
Post down with your opinions, please.
Like you see in my signature i`m using CM since Version 9 ...and i`m very happy with it ...
Acutally i`m using nightly of CM 10.2 ,there are some bugs, but the stable versions are very good !!!
CM is faster than stock rom, have more features and for me it is very stable ,when you use the stable versions ...
Hope to help...

I've had the oportunity to test a few rom's myself before, CM is the most stable i've found, but the battery life isn't that great.
I've also used Gamerz Rom V3 and V4 for a while, and battery life was slightly better, along with better performance, but sometimes it bugged out with some widgets.
Right now i'm using the latest stable version of CM, but if anyone knows a stable rom with better battery life for music, let me know
This may be exactly what you're looking for.

Hi ....
Perhaps you can help me and say which rom is the stablest and smoothest and fastest for the LG Optimus 2X P990 ... i have tried a lot of roms but they all have bugs ...
The fastest and stablest for me was this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032419 and then the 1.5 a version i think but the new version should be fine.
CM7 is also good since it uses less battery but there are some bugs in it still.
I'm a bit of a newbie to the O2X but I've tried a few roms and I've found that the modaco fr15 fear edition is pretty much like stock with a few nice tweaks so it's very stable from what I've seen so far, they've stripped pretty much everything out that you don't need so it's pretty quick too (well very quick).
I've put the over clocking kernel on too and with it over clocked to 1.4 ghz I've got 3976 on Quadrant. But after a while I started to get a few fc's so I put it back down to stock and everything was fine again.
I'm not saying this is what you should do, but I'm just letting you know my experiences with what I've tried so far.....
Also new to this forum. Anyway, I am using Fear r15 and have no problems at all. Very smooth, although I am missing some of my favorite LG Widgets ( Memo and Calendar ) , it is the stability without lags that made me switch to Fear ROM.
I'm on Modaco FR16(beta 4), and it's fast & smooth, and kind to your battery. My only problem is that my Exchange account keeps on disappearing, but it could be my Exchange server.

I'm thinking of going onto this rom cos I have noticed the fast battery drain on fr15... But i have only had the phone for a couple of days and i didn't really get a chance to see what it was like on stock, so I don't know whether its normal.
One thing I did notice was the fact the the music app is constantly running and even my task killer wont stop it. I know I probably dont need a task killer but its habit since I had my G1 many moons ago...
I'm using the CM7 nightlies and am very pleased with them. There are a few bugs and issues to be worked out (eg: no 801.2x support for WiFi), but for the most part, I'm very satisfied.
I only lost 5% in 10 hours with GMail push on .

Thanks a lot. LG Memo and Calendar is up and running.
I'm running CM7 nightly as well. The battery drain is basically non-existence and everything running smoothly. It also has quite a nice collection of customization options. If you can live with a few bugs then it's the rom to go!

Install Battery Calibration, charge to full then calibrate battery
You can also do the same by charging to full then wipe battery stats in recovery.
CM has a full list of APNs if there are some which aren't in use delete them off.
Flash your Radio to 0218, seem to work better than 0405 regarding battery issues. This will be at the expense of some call quality, to me it is worth it.
I am using CM7 at the moment and I have no intention of switching back.
Ive been using CM7 build 20 for some days and there was several things that was missing. It was stabel, but was using a great deal of battery.
So I switched over til BlazingDragon v1.7. This one is working wherey nice. Its based on the stock LG ROM so its only Android 2.2.2. CM7 is ver. 2.3.4.
Now i see that Modaco fr17 is out, but there is so many custom ROM out there so now Im not sure what to.
CM7 is getting better for every built they give out, but its not that good yeat, but Im sure it will be great when RC versjon is ready.
how about WGSPOELSTRA?
Im very happy with the latest madaco. CM is still way to unstable.

I am seriously thinking about instalying cm7 nightly on my phone. But before i do i have some and i was thinking maybe you can help me out.
1)I was readying that everything works exept for the radio. Is that true? and how does the gps work as good as in gingerbread?
2)How is the battery life compared to the stock gingerbread rom?
3)Is it stable enough for every day use?(i don't mind if i have to "adjust" something here and there i just don't want to miss my cals amd sms).
Thnx in advance.

hi.
1) everything except radio is working. Radio is even semi working on the latest builds.
GPS is sometimes stable and sometimes not. Can't day it was better when I was on stock ROM.
2) there are some battery issues, but I can make it last a day with moderate use
3) wouldn't say so. It is still in nightly build and no stable release is available yet.
I'm using it as my daily driver, but I don't mind some bugs here and there since the ROM is blazing fast.
My 2 cents on the matter
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I had it installed for about a week. Didn't try the radio but everything else seemed to work.
Was a bit unstable at times but I could live with it. I couldn't live with the battery life though so reflashed samsung firmware.

To answer all three questions ...
1) FM radio works in the most recent builds. As GPS is about the same as on stock roms. The hardware is the hardware after all.
2) battery life is just? Like on the stock rom ...it depends on a lot of factors. If you are one of those people who claims to get three days on a charge, then you will disappointed. Most users get between a day and a day and a half of normal use per charge with much greater performance than on stock roms.
3) I feel it is ready for daily use if you are the sort who enjoys regular updates and tinkering . However ymmv so the only way to know how you will like it is to flash it and see.

what he said ^^
battery life was fine for me and i last used CM about 2 months ago !!! so it must be even better now
its the same as MIUI except from the layout, and i been on MIUI since CM7 - 2 months. and it is definitely stable enough for day to day use.
everything works for me and fm radio does too !! but if it acts up, i just switch data on and listen to radio online, so thats no issue for me.
I would HIGHLY recommend you try it, the speed is well worth the little bugs. it will blow you away compared to stock / samsung based ROMs.
and if you like CM7 soooo much, take 10 mins to switch to MIUI and you will be even more amazed
and if you dont like it, just go back to stock. at least you can say you have tried it
Big thankyou for everybody that answer my questions.

True.
I will try it first thing in the morning. since i have to recharge my phone.
rschenck @ i am going to fallow your tutorial, but i noticed you sad that you need a froyo bootloader, why is that?
And 1 more thing: If i want to update cm7 do i allways need to reinstal all the apps or i can update the phone without wipeing all the data?
you can update without losing your apps, thats not a problem
and as for the froyo bootloader, you need this for sd card reasons mainly, amongst other things.
sometimes people cannot use internal nor external sd card, because of not having a froyo bootloader, thus resulting in most apps not working, camera not working and so on.
I was just like you... and i have decided to flash CM7 two days ago:
Really surprise, it's fast and stable.
No problem with call/sms.
Gps and battery life is ok like samsung rom.
Heavy 3D games like Dungeon Defenders work well.
But no TV-out, it's my only problem with this rom...
well i don't use the tv-out feature so i think it is ok.
So, i got my handset like one hour ago, and so far i gained root access and made a backup of my original rom. Now it's time to install CM7. So, i found this link, and Nightly 20 seems to be the latest version out there. Nightly, that word makes me think that it is kand of a unstable beta/alpha version? Any experiences with any of these versions? And also, what is the NOVA rom i keep reading about around in here?
Well, novaROM is another rom based on froyo, cm7 is based on GB and it seems that the most stable is n17
As said elsewhere nightlies are something like debian testing... the dev makes improvements, corrects bugs... the dev's guru validates by reading the code of the commits... the bot (alas down this time...) builds it... and we guys use it and report bugs.
Can't be said stable but working. Read all threads and make your mind. Oh, and since the bot is down, someone built the code himself, with the dev's agreeing. Call that private build 'kang'... seems good with aprold kernel v10. Give it a try. Make your own mind.

Thanks for feedback guys. ATM, i'm not sure if i need to change rom, i mean, i've gotten to change so much of the original rom now that it is beyond recognition. These are the apps i used so far:
- GO Launcher EX (With Notifications-extra)
- Minimalistic Text
- Super Status Bar
- WidgetLocker Lockscreen
I've also deleted a huge amount of LG stock apps using ES File Explorer, and i'm pretty happy about it so far. What i don't like is the colorful Dailscreens, i might have to look for some alternative there...
You can have them, I think. For example I made myself a zip with google's and my favorite apps so I don't have to reinstall and delete stuff everytime I try a new nightly. Next step is to backup preferences of each (and even put it in the zip...) and evetything's fine.
You'll get what you want by tryin. At least that's how I see it.
Well, after some more playing around now, i think i want to flash CM7, but i don't feel like using a nightly build, sounds to unstable for my taste. However, i'd really like a stabile GB rom (or ICS ). Isn't there any other one providing a stable solution? As stock or stripped as possible. Battery time is horrible with stock rom, hope this helps with a different rom...
Try cm nightly 17 with huexxx kernel... seems the less unstable but nothing more: no stable cm yet and maybe there won't for the dev seems to work now on ics... and still no lg stock gingerbread...
It's adventure or 2.2...
EDIT: In fact, redy's KANG seems the "stablest" or the less unstable with incomming call audio bug half fixed. Wifi bug with Nova or Huexxes...
I think we all need to accept the fact that battery drain is never going to be what we hope, it is the nature of the beast. All smartphone users (including iPhone) have the same complaint, but particularly our phone with its slim design (and therefore smaller battery) will never have long life unless you never use it!

please..the only thing i like about apple and its products is battery life..est they are just crap..with all those jailbreaks n ****..android rocks..and optimus black awsm..
bt i was thinking why devs left cm7 on nightlies..at least 1 stable rom should have been cme..well..its good to hear bout ics rom..hope it will cme soon
Well, how long will it take until Optimus Black gets CM w/ICS? I don't think P970 is on top of their priority list. About the battery, my LG lasts about 24h, while my HTC Desire lasts for 2-3 days, both sporting a 1 GHz cpu. Also, P970 has a marginal bigger battery, and HTC Sense is "bad for battery", that is common knowledge. I did read something about Beautiful Widgets draining battery as well, might uninstall it and see how it goes...
My little review about CM7 #20 with NOVAV11c Kernel by knzo. Sorry if it look like a noob review.
Overall nice, just like what I want of how android should, but without all google product of course.
Bug I got, quite laggy when OB connect to PC via bluetooth , wifi error when I turn it off meanwhile it connect to my PC via bluetooth, but when not, wifi are good
Battery: drain a lot in default governor and quite save in LIONHEART governor.
Antutu score: 26xx in default launcher and 2492 in GO LAUNCHER EX.
Btw anyone knows how to make it battery saver?

Hello all
So basically, I've never been settled on a ROM, why? Because all of them gotta have one or more bugs that can't help but abandon it.
In general, I just hate how 80% of all cooked ROMs DO NOT support Video Calling via CDMA
in here are some details:
CM7/7.2 is awesome but it drains battery pretty fast and Video Recording doesn't work for me "it glitches" so i ditched it.
CM9/10 briefly.. They AREN'T stable. How? It might suddenly turn off and show you a bootloop or maybe a kernel get wrecked! that happens every week for me so I ditched this one.
AOKPs the're cool and amazingly fast, battery's life is great! and I just love em but for example. the best AOKP imo is XI9000 ROM but too bad that the Google Play Store is kinda retarded in this ROM "unable to find Facebook, YouTube, Thumb.. etc..in an inside search" I dunno if that applies to all AOKPs. Plus it might wreck when battery runs out xD
Gingerbreads! are just not suitable for a 2012 use! and STOCK ones are majorly slow on my device
So i'm gonna sum this all up by asking some couple of questions:
1- How to keep your ROM stability!, and how to avoid getting it wrecked?!

It's really weird that you're having issues with any ROM.
Using JB atm I flashed a stock 2.3.6, CM9 (TeamHacksung's build 16) twice and Mackay ROM afterwards and it's really stable for me. I don't see how your phone would just turn off or some other stuff.
Do you modify it much (undervolting, etc)?

What do u mean by the underlined sentence? I don't flash more than ONE zip file at a time!
He means two times in a row. Some recommend it, and sometimes it's necessary when flashing a rom with a different partition layout.
I think your issues either come from not flashing properly, or not spending enough time to learn about how processes work.
No offense intended, really, but this is a developer forum, and while most of us cannot ornament ourselves with that title, it is expected of us to read up on how everything works and spend some time working out basic issues ourselves.
For example, if you experience lag, fc or other unexplainable issues with a rom where few have the same problems, you should take the time and start flashing jvu with Odin and going down that road until you've got a clean install. Most people will just pass judgements and decide that the rom is buggy.
Not saying that you do this or that, but from your op it seems like you spend more time annoying yourself than trying to fix the issues

Hey guys, i know many of those threads came here in the past time but i have a question.
I want to give my i9000 to my mother. I need a stable rom which doesnt need to update daily or weekly. I know from many roms that they run VERY fluid in the first few days but barely a week later they begin to lag, stuck, etc.
My mother wants to make calls, maybe whatsapp, facebook, etc.
In addition to that my little brother will pick the phone up and want to play some games likes jetpack joyride or something.
The Rom mustnt be 4.2.2 because i know that many 4.2.2 roms are getting laggy after some time of usage. even slim bean which i used a lot and love it.
anyone any suggestions?
thank you!
why don't u use the stock 2.3.6 rom ? it's ok..plenty of features, god battery life and enough new apps that can run on it. At least you know it's stable and bug-free. After using slimbeam for a few months i went back to stock...it's better for me because i want a stable rom, fast, vith little customization. Slim it's ok but i had some bug's and if u are on a trip or u need to use the gps to go somewhere u don't whant to get force close or other things.

Agreed, stock, or a debloated/optimised stock is the best option. I tend to go back to stock because its rock stable, without losing on too many things.
Especially considering GPS and battery life, stock does incredibly well.

okay thanks guys so the majority sticks for gingerbread. i'll stick to the stock rom since my mother never had a smartphone till now and will be surprised positively anyway
@bialabs. CM10.1 is nice but i think the batterylife is very poor on every cm rom since the gingerbread roms. i dont know why but on the i9000 it uses a lot of battery for some reason.
maybe we can leave this thread open for some other user experiences for people who want to live without bunch of extras and customizations
Great question OP. Just giving my mother an old SGS from a friend which runs CM nightlies. Wanted to find a simple, stable rom for her, as she doesnt have a smartphone. Came on xda to find one. Thanks for the replies.
Try Sexynogenmod 2.5 It's rock stable(don't bother with any changes to governor or OC) battery life ,in my case, is similar to stock, gps working fine and very smooth. It's odd that it's based on cyanogenmod 10, maan it's so much different(better). I personally recommend it, and i flash ROMs since 2010

My experience
I am using Supernexus 2 M1. It is almost Stock for Samsung Galaxy S I9000. It working really good. Stable, good speed, etc...
Slimbean 6 i use and no big problem.
All great suggestions. But i finally decided on a gingerbread, because i believe it is more intuitive for a beginner. Stock was a bit laggy, so now i use Saurom ROM 2.3.6 (JWB) with Menu addon pack + Semphore 2.7.4 kernel. Everything is great and have no issues so far.
I use JB 4.2.2 - CM10.1 + Sempahore, all working great..
