Hi everyone,
So I picked up my Xperia Z a week ago to replace my HTC one, yes I gave up those dual speakers and snapdragon 600 hardware and camera lens cracking eventually.. Anyway for a while I was puzzled as to why my phone wouldn't unlock bootloader, followed all procedures as the OP asked and still bootloop, When I checked *#*#service#*#*, rooting status said "Bootloader unlocked: yes". I didn't know my bootloader was indeed unlocked from the previous owner. Now i'm using "RomAur v8.1" unlock bootloader selected. Now back to my question, in settings -> display "Mobile Bravia Engine 2" shows up and I didn't restore my TA partition. Is it normal for Bravia Engine 2 to be there after flashing unlocked roms?
Yes, it's normal, unlocking bl doesnt remove the be2 window, however youre not able to use it anymore (probably works in movies) unless you have TA partition

I backed up my TA partition when it was on factory firmware. What is weird was the bootloader was unlocked when i got it and it. Anyway thanks for your reply!

Tried searching, but didn't find a clear answer to the disadvantages of unlocking bootloader for Sony Xperia SP.
Am really interested in unlocking bootloader, mainly coz I am a fan of CyanogenMod ROM's.
If an when CM arrives for SP, I will have to unlock bootloader.
If some doubts are cleared, will unlock it right away. May be.
Few questions, simply answered would really be appreciated.
1. We lose DRM is sure, but can we manage to add DRM keys back on unlocked bootloader?
2. Do we lose Bravia Engine 2?
3. Do we lose front camera?
4. Any other disadvantages? Or something I need to know?
Thanks!
1. Yes, backup TA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
2. Yes (unless you follow step 1). I prefer not having bravia engine because I noticed it made pictures taken by our camera look a million times more noisy
3. Well that's just a weird thing to lose... No we don't
4. Not really... Apart from the warranty void stuff of course
Not sure if you need to unlock bootloader to install CM though. If they made it work with stock kernel then you won't need to unlock the bootloader, if it only works with modified kernels then yeah you have to unlock
Unfortunately I did root my phone and unlocked bootloader without paying much attention to backup TA partition and possibility to lose Bravia engine
I should have done more reading instead of rushing to root my Xperia SP
can I know what is DRM keys that have been lost ?!! and if i relock bootloader will I restore Bravia engine.
also if Bravia engine is lost, how come i still can select it in Settings --> Display
is there anyway to test if it is there or not?
Thanks.

Yes bravia engine is lost
It still appears in settings but u will find the difrence in pictures that the bravia engine doesnt work after unlocking bl
Heres the thing guys, I unlocked bootloader on My V and J and still found Bravia working on the albums, I did not backup TA or whatsoever.
Its just placebo that it will be gone. I unlocked bL on both V and J because warranty is gone after a year.
The bravia engine only makes photographs look better on the phone. Sometimes think Sony chose less bright screen hardware just to make BE look good.

Hi!
I think you will find an answer of these question in this thread: link
1.Yes, you can restore the DRM keys if you made a BACKUP! Just flash stock firmware before you do that.
2.Yes, but thats only counts for stock rom.It works fine on custom roms.
3.No.
4.I dont know. My bootloader is unlocked and I have no issues so far.
I hope that helped!Press thanks if it did!

Yes
Hey guys I got a simple question about the bootloader on the XZ. I just unlocked the bootloader after keeping a backup of my TA partition and rooted the stock. 101 firmware. What I want to know is, do I lose anything (except Bravia Engine and TrackID). Reason I am asking is that I saw a discussion about camera quality being lower on unlocked BL. Is that legit?
Another quick question:Is there any way I can go from locked to unlocked BL and vice versa without using a PC? That would be very convenient.
Thanks
sorry sir..as i know,camera's quality down on 4.3 version..i use bootloader unlocked on 4.2 version and i don't lost my camera's quality
Hi I just unlocked bootloader on phone by this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721 . As I read after the unlocking I should lost DRM keys and because of loss of the DRM keys the services as a Bravia Engine 2 ,TrackID and such Sony stuff shouldnt work. However after the unlock it seems these services still works. In configuration it says "bootloader unlocked: yes"
If the unlocking was succesful ,shouldnt be the box of Bravia Engine 2 in the settings be grayed out and unresponsible? How can I be sure if its unlocked? I dont want to mess my phone when I flash a new ROM on it.

You looked in the Service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) that means it is unlocked. Box with bravia engine 2 shall function like before, there is just no effect. If confoguration sais that the bootloader is unlocked it IS unlocked! the Sony stuff only doesn't work if you didn't root before unlocking the bootloader

I've recently bought a used xperia z but I'm not sure if the bootloader is locked or unlocked.
So my questions are:
1)How do I check this?
2)If the bootloader is locked does this guarantee me that the (stock) rom has not been "modified" previously?
My concerns at security related.

type *#*#7378423#*#* in the phone dialer
then service info>configuration>rooting status
we will have locked bootloader when we bought it
and no bootloader can be unlocked & relocked so don't know,or you can check if the BRAVIA Engine works on Sony Album app or not

According to this link you can but not entirely sure since I've never done it before..
If this if not the case, could you explain to me a little bit more?
It's possible to unlock and relock the bootloader without leaving any trace that it was done. You can check if it's currently unlocked by looking in the service menu. Enter *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialler, then look in Service info - Configuration.
If you're worried just repair the phone with SUS or the PC Companion. This will completely wipe the phone and reinstall the software from scratch, therefore ensuring that nothing is tampered with.

Hi all, probably been asked and answered many times but Id like an up to date answer please..
New Z3 Compact arrived today (secondhand off ebay UK), it was Vodafone but I unlocked it and to my surprise, it has a locked Boot Loader that "can't" be unlocked as I really want ROOT and always had a rooted Android since I can remember! Sony seems to be different in this sector and might have to sell it otherwise which would be a shame!...
Any fixes for this issue, being September 2015? Cheers in advance.

I got mine from O2 and it can't be bootloader unlocked, but I still managed to root it. Followed the steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
Which lets you root and take a copy of the DRM keys, you should not bootloader unlock it first as it wipes the DRM keys permanently, resulting in the loss of the camera low light algorithms and Bravia engine software.

Thanks mate I will give that a go! Found the Vibration doesn't work either so might go back anyway if Root doesn't work lol...
