Now that we have root, does anybody know if there is a way to adjust the intensity of the haptic feedback/vibration via a build.prop edit or the like? I remember back in the One X days we could adjust the brightness of the capacitive keys by editing the build.prop so I was hoping we could do the same for the vibration intensity. Any ideas?
Bump. Anyone? Is there a way to just disable the vibration altogether? Any devs know? @jcase perhaps?
I'm assuming it's going to be somewhere in /sys/devices but there's a lot of stuff to go through. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.
Going to bump this thread daily until someone chimes in. So..... BUMP.
I know trickster mod has the option but the kernel needs to support the feature. I took my back plate off and tightened the screw and theirs a difference. That will for sure void any warranty you have but I couldn't stand the wonky vibrator. You should be covered by warranty anyway so you could always unroot and send back

Thanks for the tip but I'm not about to open this bad boy up. Sending back isn't worth it considering I would likely get another one that has ridiculously loud vibration. Gonna keep my fingers crossed that someone has an answer for me.

Hi, I am sorry if this has been posted before else where on XDA but i cant find anything on the development thread.
Is it possible for someone to make a G-Sensor calibration app that works globally for all apps on the phone?
I have the problem where if you say, use the layar app, the horizon is not level and driving games always go to the left for example.
I have rooted my phone now so cant send back for warranty. Surley a global calibration app for rooted users would be quite simple lol? not that i am a developer haha.. i have no idea, but surley its just a case of adding a number to part of the code for the g-sensor driver heh heh
Hope someone can help!
p.s Who else has this issue?
P.s. I just read on this this thread that Modaco's alpha 14 ROM contains g-sensor calibration in 'settings, sound and display and @ the bottom G sensor calibration'??
Is is possible for someone to get the bits requred to enable this on any rom that we can just flash an update.zip to get working?
sorry for putting this post in the development forum, i saw some other requests and assumed that was the place for it
so, Bump, any devs have any idea if its possible?
Bump
Calling all devs! :O) Does anyone know if its possible?
not one single person has anything to say about this? sigh...
bump from me too...
lastes cyan has issues after laying on a table.
It won't go to portrait mode.
i'll see if i can find a way to pull that little tidbit from their code. i found this while trying to find a way to unscrew my compass. i thought there was a way to calibrate it.
does anyone know where the g sensor or compass physicly is in the phone? i'm guessing in the gps box, but i dont know. in the early days of my G1, it sailed across the room a plenty due to the lightsaber/sword/fishing/gun apps. some call it Wii syndrome. i may have broken the damned thing.

Woah, I thought I was the only one with this problem.
Setting the phone on a table pretty much guarantees it going into landscape and I have to tilt it back up and forward to get it back into portrait before laying it down again.
Every 2.2.1 ROM I have ever flashed has this problem and I have never found a fix for it yet, the haptic feedback straight up sucks. On both the capacitive buttons and the on screen keyboard the vibration is just super weak and faint. Yes I have my haptic intensity all the way max, I can post a screenshot if you don't believe me. If there is anything that fixes this please let me know. Thanks

It's a known issue with most 2.2 roms. Cognition 4+ and fusion fix this issue probably due to the fact they are based off captivate kb1.
Actually there is a way to do it. DesignGears did it with Cognition 3 before KB1 was released, but good luck getting him to tell you.

There has to be a way to increase the maximum... Many like to shut off the feedback, but I liked the feedback that came with 2.1 Samsung keyboard. Maybe there is a way via HEX editor if someone knows the address....
It's fixed in CM7 as well so it's definitely a 2.2 problem. I had the same annoyance when I used 2.2 but just got use to it.
I think this can be adjusted in the system table of settings.db... you are probably better off getting a dev to do it for you in a ROM instead of trying to adjust it yourself.

O.O..Sorry if my english is bad and make you funny but mine is a serious question..
I think that the hardware of vibration is not set up correct in my phone and take me the sensation i described in the first post.
Any serious answer?
Now that you mention it...
I don't think it's a hardware fault. It's probably meant to happen.

Mate, mine does the same thing. Sometimes if I knock it gently in my pocket I think it's vibrating for a new sms or email!
I think all that is inside our phones is just a giant spring
It's the same for mine too, and it was the same on my old Nokia as well. Never really worried me, springs must be what people want these days....
yup same here. completely normal on all sgs

Personally, I find it to be *incredibly* annoying and pretty much ruins the experience of using this otherwise good phone. I have already been to the Sprint store to possibly exchange it, but their demo unit had the exact same problem (and the employee I was talking to had also noticed the problem). I have also ran "getevent -lt /dev/input/event6" from adb shell (/dev/input/event6 seems to be the raw output of the touchscreen, some people said it is event5 on theirs rather than event6). This shows you raw data every time you touch the screen. However I noticed that when my touches of the home button go undetected, nothing is read from /dev/input/event6...so I am afraid it may be a hardware problem. I have 11 more days before my 14 day Sprint satisfaction period ends, so I'm on the fence on whether or not I should return it and wait for a better phone, or exchange it and probably get another with the same problem, or...wait for HTC to try to fix it with software.
Some have said a recent update to the Taiwan version of the One solved the problem...:

doing a bit translation from Taiwan version if you guys can't wait. not sure if I used the correct words though, hope you don't mind.
1.29.709.12(214.04MB)
1. virtual button sensitivity adjusted
2. slow motion video quality improved under low lit
3. better Beats Audio experience
4. better background noise when using headphone
5. better bluetooth device matching
some said back button issue fixed after upgrading.

Further evidence that a software patch fixed the home button:

After the update the virtual keys become normal
There is a need to go faster

Here is the response I got from HTC:
Thank you for retrieving the information for me, [xxxxxx]. I did some research and there will be an MR update to fix this issue with the virtual keys. We do not have any information as to the date the update will be released since it will be released via Sprint your network provider, and it is currently being worked on.
I realize that not having the specific details such as the date is annoying, but we do appreciate your patience. I want to thank you again for sending me that information because that really helps us out a lot. Let me know if you have any other questions I may be able to address with you at this time.
Sincerely,

Most likely what you are actually noticing is that not all presses are registered and you are rationalizing it by assuming that you just missed the target. In reality, there is a problem with the home/back buttons that HTC needs to fix, soon.

I prefer to tap with my fingertip and this is rarely detected by the home/back buttons, which is SOOOO annoying. I'm debating trying to swap it out for a new one. From what I can tell the problem seems to affect EVRYONE, although many people might not notice or be annoyed by it. So the question is, is it truly a pure software fault, or is it a hardware fault that software (ie, an OTA) can mask or at least partially correct.
That's my preference as well - it has been an adjustment and one that I'm not terribly pleased with. I'm surprised the issue didn't show up in pre-release testing but I have to imagine it's something that software can fix with a remap of the area the system recognizes as buttons.

It's really not an issue with the "area", as I can touch the dead center of the home button and it still won't work. Seems to me that it is either not sensitive enough, or some other problem.
Regardless, word is that an OTA fixed this problem on the Taiwan HTC One 2 days ago, so now I guess we just need to complain loud enough that HTC/Sprint pump out the fix to us ASAP before we all return our phones.
Mines like this as well, you can hit the back button dead on and no response. Hopefully they issue a fix somewhat quickly.

Having this problem as well. My device was built April 9th 2013. I can sit there and tap on the home button for 30 seconds or more in every way possible and have no registration of the contact.
This might just be wishful thinking but for some reason clicking the app drawer icon seems to fix the issue right away making me think this is software.
Other than this the build quality and everything else seems perfect.

HTC needs to admit they have a problem here and advise us whether we should be returning these or waiting for an OTA patch which will be coming VERY soon.
I saw some people talking about this and didn't know what they were referring to.. I got my phone on launch day and have no issues with it, that looks super annoying

No, AFAIK.
A lot of crap can get in that hole, though, you can try GENTLY cleaning it out.
I had to replace the screen, which dramatically improved the LED visibility.
I know, it's quite old and for ION/S, but you could give it a try:
