[Q] HP Touchpad Not turning on - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a HP Touchpad which was running on CM9 nightlies. A few weeks ago it ran completely out of charge. When I tried to charge it, the low charge icon displayed and the screen just went blank.
I am still having the same problem. I have tried several button combinations that I found on different sites, but not a single one worked.
My charger is not causing the issue; I have tried using an alternative one. So whenever I hold the power button for about five seconds, the low battery icon shows up, and the screen goes blank. I have also tried charging through the USB port on my computer.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Try this: type "HP Touchpad Not turning on" in the "Search this thread" box at upper right..

I have already gone through every single thread about HP touchpad not turning on.

Are you using the stock charger? Do you have a touchstone?

Yes, I am using the stock charger. I have also tried using my xperia charger. When I connect it I get a message saying 'to charge reliably, use the charger that came with your device'.
I do not have a touchstone.
I have a feeling that my device is bricked and my charger is not causing the problem.
Sent from my Xperia Miro using Tapatalk 4

How long have you left it on the charger? I've had mine come back overnight. Or even a full day.
It's not that there's a problem with your charger, it's that the Touchpad's charger delivers a different level of charge from most other cables/bricks. If the TP's battery level falls below a certain level, it gets tough to get a charge to it, and usually only the stock charger or touchstone work. A lot of people have had this issue, so searching for them would probably give more info about it than me.

I had charged it for about ten hours. I think I'll try again. Were you getting the low charge icon first and then the USB icon?
Thank you.

My Nexus 7 fizzled and died!

I was using my Nexus 7, playing a game. It then static-screened and hissed for 2 secs and then died! It was charging through PC USB.
It won't power up anymore.
WTH?

You may have overheated it. Wait a few hours and try again. also, depending on the USB charging, the charger may not have been able to keep up with the battery drain of the game and it shut down for a low battery. Use the OEM charger whenever possible.

If the device actually made a "fizzle" sound then I recommend sending it in for a replacement. Sounds like a battery leak. Was it overclocked?

I had the same problem yesterday, my battery was very low and I was using it while plugged-in a PC USB.
I was playing reckless racing, i left it on the desk for awhile when I went back to my PC. the device was on, but all of a sudden it fizzled and static screened.
I freaked out and unplugged the USB. then the device shut-down(turns black) immediately. The device was a bit hot on the back bottom. I tried to turn it on, NO GO. I plugged it in the OEM charger, NO charging screen. tried turning on, still no go.
then i look in xda. and found out someone said to hold the power button for 30s.
So, the device was plugged in OEM charger. I sat it there for like 5 mins first. then try to do the 30s.
It boot up again on like 35, or 36 second i counted.
I bet it was a low battery problem, since charging it from a PC doesn't provide enough power.
The method solved mine, and i hope it solved yours too.
Gd luck!!

But why a "fizzle " and static? Is this one of JB's idiosyncrasies?

I meant to say a I heard a fizzling sound when it static screened. Almost like the sound you hear with TV static but more... fizzy? :silly:
lol
If you heard a fizzle I'd definitely still send it back in for RMA, better safe than sorry down the road.
just looping the sound file from the game before shutting down not a issue. watch that battery icon in the future.
playing nova 3 on full 1600mhz oc N7 did the same on a freeze and reset. (; have to find the settings that work right. nova 3 1500mhz with the gpu oc at 500 screams and is stable on my N7. spiderman became a fun game after the kernel flash.
Just to say it again - plugging the Nexus 7 into a PC USB port will not keep it charged during high current usage.
If you drain the battery completely - don't expect any display until you have charged it for probably an hour.
Funky noises from your game when you flatline the battery is no cause to return it.
Use a dedicated charger for game play, preferably the one that came with it.
Didn't fizzle here, just turned off and no matter how long I held power button or left charging on mains connector or on PC, the tablet was completely dead. Returned to Argos and got refund and now waiting on another Nexus 7 to be delivered but via Tesco direct this time.
Fingers crossed this one lasts a lot longer than the hour the first one did

I had this exact same problem except mine wasn't plugged into anything and my battery was not near empty. When I finally got it booted back up it was at 27% so for me it wasn't low battery. I only ever use the charger that came with it - unless I'm connecting it to my laptop for a few minutes to transfer files, etc.
This is my second Nexus 7. The first one got returned because it had problems with the touchscreen on occasion. It actually did do this static/fizzle/crash once or twice as well.
I wonder if the static/fizzle/crash issue is being addressed in hardware and/or software with a newer version of either one?
Pls tell me Asus representatives are reading these threads in xda. I can see lots of problems with the device. Google should take serious actions on this
That would freak me out my dizzle...I hope my Nexus doesn't ever fizzle.

Maybe, but I had more than a quarter of my battery left and had very similar symptoms. I think it might be related to heat generated by gaming. Maybe with low (but not out of) battery, maybe not. The touchscreen issues I experienced on my first N7 seemed to only occur after hard gaming. Maybe there's a heat dissipation issue? (Wild speculation)
Mine did exactly the same last week, thought it had died altogether but holding the power for 45 seconds sorted it.
I need help too.
My N7 turned off when the battery ran out. So i plugged to charge through PC USB and immediately when that great charger icon apear in the screen i pressed the button power, and so it go black. No more signals. Dead... No charge, no turn on anymore.
I tried to hold the power button for 30s a lot.
I opened the N7, unpluged e pluged again the battery. Nothing.
I let it charging, in the OEM charger, with OEM cable, all the night, for more than 12 hours. Nothing.
And it has a "fizzle" sound. It can be heard better when its open.
When i disconnect the battery the sound stop. If i connect the charger, even without the battery, the sound come back.
When i hold the power button for 30s the sound stop for about 3 seconds, and then restarts.
The Windows manager device recognizes the N7 as a weird "APX" (image attach).
In from Brazil, so for now will not be easy to return to google.
Any ideas?
Thx in advance
---------------------------------------
Update:
I discovered that the unit does not appear to be charging.
Before, the OEM charger became a little hot, and now nothing.
I instaled today the program "Asus AI charger" that lets you charge a ipad in USB, and the icon charging do not apear when i connect the N7, only when i connect other devices.
So mine just fizzled and died not connected to any power source. I was at 9%. It was running a bit warm but no where near relatively hot. Will update...

mysteriously dead IncS

Yesterday my phone shutted because my battery, I connected to my car and charged a while, I got out from charging and using 2-3 minutes more and battery died again. When I got home I connected it to AC power and powered on, It was working without problem. I left my phone maybe 1 hour charging and when I took it again it was dead: screen dead, no life signal, just the led blinking slowly when connected to power (either AC and USB)...tried to take off battery but nothing. Today I connected it to PC and windows has recognized it but cannot identify it (on the PC the classic USB device not recognized error with yellow triangle on top) and the led is always blinking.
Any idea? should I have to buy a new phone?
thanks

Try Running some POST tests. As in, Power off your device and wait for few seconds. Then Press and hold your power key and your volume down key. You should be able to access your Bootloader. (If you have Rooted your device, you could access your recovery and clear the battery stats although your device's condition seems peculiar/critical). Its worth a shot If you ask me.
I have already tried it but nothing, cleared dalvik and battery stats..I cannot understand whats going on. Now phone is working again but it cannot maintain battery, I mean I kept it in charge all the night but when I power on the phone it shuts down just when it starts android (thats strange because I went to a store yestarday and tried a new battery but it didn't worked, when got home I tried to power on it again and it started)...this is driving me crazy!!
edit: I turned it on, plugged in AC charger and phone after some minutes told me that (I don't remember the exact message) power needed by the phone is more than the charger could provide...
edit2: now it is on and it is charging (USB) and it doesn't charge more than 21%...really strange
Odd that this hasn't been mentioned but perhaps try a different usb cable? Different port? Seems obvious but you never know. Cables can deteriorate.

Nexus 7 is not charging anymore

Hi !
So my nexus 7 is not charging anymore... 3 days ago I took it outside ( it was -20°C in Montreal) and tried to use it but it did not start ( I think the battery went off because of the cold).
When I went back home I plugged it to the AC charger but nothing happened. I checked on several forums ans finally succeeded in booting the tablet. But the as soon as the tablet is on, it displays the message that the tablet is shutting down. I can see that the battery is empty and it is like the tablet is not plugged to the charger(the icon displays a red exclamation point instead of the charging indicator)
When the tablet is off and I plugged it to the charger it displays the charging icon for a 10 seconds and then it disappears. During those few seconds I can launch the boot loader. I tryed to shut it down, de plug and re plug the charger. The charging icon appears and then disappears again after a few...
Any advice on this one ? I don't think the tablet is totally dead but I don't find the way to make it charge again.
Thanks a lot,
Guillaume

Does the charger get warm at all when you plug it in? Not that that's necessary but curious. Try charging on a different charger. Perhaps a local BB or similar would let you try plugging in in lieu of buying one. But trying a different charger/cord would be my first step.
Usually it's heat and not cold that devices hate.
HTH
Have you plugged it into a computer and left it that way for a few hours?
Did you tried pressing Power button for 30 seconds ?? It worked for some people, I was not even able to turn on my nexus 7 when its reached to my hands, i was so unlucky, today i given it to Asus service centre as its has international warranty, i lives in india & bought from US, they working on it,hoping for best.
You might have to take the back off and check the battery connector, some people have had them come loose.

These things are freezer tested and they work. Worst comes to absolute worst complete battery replacement is not that difficult if you are out of warranty. I remember reading that in the disassembly notes.

Droid 4 close to brick...

Hi everybody...
I have an issue for you...
Yesterday I was using my phone and battery was aboout 40%.
I then took out it from my pocket to switch on the screed and it didn't switch on...it seems the screen was on but black...
- I tried to press the switch button, but nothing...I connected it to my portable battery and nothing too...
- I tried to switch on by press all three phisical buttons and I had a short vibration and nothing else, just another vibration after about 20sec...
That makes me feel that situation was possible to fix...
Of course the battery couldn't be removed and put on again...
Finally I arrived home and I connect to electricity and nothing, I connected to my PC and I reboot the phone by the utility: it works!!
I was worried and I would like to know what happened and if that's possible to repeat again...
Thanks!

This phone doesn't play nice with a lot of portable battery chargers. Try it with the charger that came with it?
A short while after you plug the charger in, it should appear to boot and display only a charging screen. Once it gets to 10% or 15% you can pull the charge cable out, power it on normally and then plug the charge cable back in.
Oddly, Nokia micro USB chargers seem to work well with this phone, if you have one of those spare.
Hi!
thanks for the answer, but you maybe misunderstood, I know about difference between charging from portable charger and normal...it happened with my backflip when it was completely empty...
Maybe I didn't explain well...the phone went "off" alone, but I was sure battery was about 30%...and it didn't work, just the screen on and black...
In my case even normal charger didn't work to reboot phone...
My solution was just to connect to computer and reboot with the tool...
but I don't know what happened, till now it didn't happen again...
p.s. I have a portable charger bought on groupon, that it works, but it's extremely slow...
bye!!

C6903 No longer charging.

My Z1 has started playing silly games, it no longer charges properly! It will be fine for a while, typically ten minutes or so, then it will pop up a warning message saying the connected power source isn't charging the battery. It will then drain faster than it can charge. Last night for example I put it on charge around 7pm with 67% and took it off at 8am this morning, but it's dropped to 3%. I've tried various chargers and cables, the dock, all 3 of my magnetic cables (how I normally it charge anyway) and tried all the usual methods of reset such as holding the red button under the SIM port down. Nothing works. It started around two weeks ago, since then I have flashed another firmware but the problem persists.
My phone is currently plugged into a 2 amp capable magnetic dock plug with the Sony plug that comes in the box. Just typing this message it's drained the battery 9% while on charge, wifi on and network off, screen brightness down and no other apps open.
I've spoken to Sony and they won't do anything, my rear glass is cracked so they won't even look at it and they seem to think it's water damage! The phone hasn't ever seen water so that's a load of BS from them.
What can I do?

I have the same problem after updating to KitKat. I'm using dock station too, but not the one that came with my phone (I didn't got any with it).
I put my phone to charge, and after 5-10 minutes it starts to show the message. One time I found my phone drained till 0% in the morning. So, I found a simple solution for my phone. Before I put the phone to charge, I turn it off, wait 2-3 seconds then turn it on. I immediately put the phone to the dock in the boot process. That's the only way I can properly charge my phone.
Hope this will help you...
