Well I already ordered it on amazon so yeah I will have this phone in less than a week. My xperia play decided to give up on me, and I needed a good cheap phone fast because I can't live without android.
So... what I would like to know if the HTC Vivid is a upgrade or a downgrade compared to the xperia play. When I look at the specs it for certain is a upgrade with the 1GM ram (Xperia play has 512mb) and the camera experience. But I want to know from you guys how the performance is. I had a lot of problems with the Xperia and I'm hoping they won't appear on the vivid.
Some of the problems I had on the Xperia play were:
- Constant Lag
- Touchscreen not always responsive
- Keyboard not always responsive
- Multitasking is pretty average
- Lag on 2D HQ games like Temple Run and Ninja Fruit
So will I be facing similar problems with the Vivid? I would like to think not since it has ICS and 1GB ram. Things that are the most important for me with this phone:
1. Social Multitasking (Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram)
2. Camera (Skype)
3. Casual Gaming without lag (Temple run, Angry Birds, Ninja Fruit ect)
I've seen reviews on youtube and they look very positive but I do see people complaining about the battery life. That's not really a issue for me since I walk with my charger 24/7.
So what do you guys think? Will I enjoy this phone? Or will it be another xperia play disaster for me?
How much did you pay for this phone? Also the stock ics rom on this phone is very buggy. After a few months, I was experiencing lots of freezes and soft reboots. Also reboots take like 5-10 minutes. If you decide to stick with this phone, I highly suggest you install a custom rom on it as they are much more stable than the stock ics rom and dont have the freezes and long reboot issues (albinoman887's are the best IMO).

$215 on amazon. It's an unlocked AT&T Vidid version. And yeah I will most likely install a custom rom, but for the first month I hope the stock rom is good enough. I tend to observe my android first before starting messing around with it.
Is there lag during gameplay? And was it as buggy on gingerbread?

I got the phone with ics so I don't know how it was with gingerbread. I did not observe any lag while playing any games so you're probably good there at least.

Hmm it could be possible that I will get it with ICS as well, but we'll see. This is my first HTC phone so I'm kinda excited. Can you play heavy games on this phone as well? Like Nova, Dungeon Defenders and the other current games?
Gaming & Multitasking... These are the two most important things for me. That's why I bought the xperia play since it was labeled as a gaming phone and Ironic enough the gaming is average. It's only good for emulators and such.
Since you have some sense of my tastes in phones, do you think this phone will satisfy me?

Multitasking...not so much, gaming, it's adequate, keep in mind you only have 1Gb of ram and the OS takes up roughly 1/2-2/3rds of it.
Storage is not a problem though with 8Gb internal and it'll handle 32Gb SD card with no issues. It does a good job as a camera and media device.
If you have the time and notion, I would suggest reading up on how to S-OFF(optional but makes life easier), installing custom recovery, and installing a custom ROM (Albinoman887's AOSP 4.2.2 is nice and relatively stable). Just be sure to read the thread regarding some issues with 4.2.2 on the Vivid (minor and more of an annoyance).
Enjoy!

With a contract (standard upgrade option) I paid... $0.01 for my Vivid, brand new. July of last year, I found it on Amazon.
I'm running DU on it now with great results. Volumes are good, battery life variable (helps a lot if I put it on airplane mode when I am at work where there is no signal to speak of).

Hi all,
I'm considiring to get a O2X because it looks like the best option out there. I did read a lot of reviews and it looks great but i want to know more about using it in real live. so i have some couple of questions to O2X owners.
1. would you recommend buying a O2X?
2. What are the disadvantages of it?
3. Does it get slow sometimes?
4. do you expect more android updates form LG?
5. what about rooting and custom roms?
i always liked HTC phones but nothing is really new, they have the same CPU same amoutn of RAM. Galaxy 2 is to expesive and looks like a iphone (not liking this). so i'm betwen buying a HTC Desire HD or a LG Optimus 2x.
tell me what your experiences are. thnx
---edit--
I forgot to ask, i have a N1 and i'm sick of getting notification that i'm low on memory, how much space does the O2X has to install apps on it? all the 8GB?
hi,
i also think about ordering one ...
you think there will be official cyanogen support ?
i´m using galaxy spica with cyanogenmod right now and got use to the features
thx for answers
I think you will have better luck getting answers when the phone is actually released The version the few people have now, is not the final version being released an a couple of weeks.

I'll give it a shot, even though I have a pre-sales sample, the rom is from Dec 14. I've used the phone since early January.
1. I would definitely recommend the phone, lightning fast, HDMI and all that makes a difference for sure (I've been bringing the phone around, so simple to connect and show pictures/videos/1080p movies! etc.
2. I'd say that it's a tad bit big but the screen makes it up. The Atrix has a bigger battery and I wouldn't mind that, even though the battery life definitely lasts longer than on my Nexus.
3. Never ever experienced any lags, I tested the phone against an iPhone 4 (cleared all history cache etc, removed the sims, wifi Only) and then ran the 10 top used websites (facebook, msn, google, myspace, youtube, blogger, wikipedia, live, etc..) the 2X loading time was quicker in every case and sometimes much quicker (facebook, myspace).
4. LG has confirmed that they'll release Gingerbread for the 2x, and there is update/OTA under settings, as well as LG Mobile Update from the PC.
5. SuperOneClick works, I've used Z4Root myself but it doesn't seem to work for all ROMs. You can count on custom ROMs, this will be the Mothership of all phones at the time of the release.
I had about 6.25 GB of free space when I got the phone. So the system does eat a bit of the 8GB cake.

Thnx Dave. It looks like a really good phone, just waiting for the phone to come out.

Hi
I have ben looking to buy the lg 2x optimus for a while. Reports of isues, the phone not working proberly, battery, bluetooth isues and so on, have ben holdning me off. And i have infact started to look for other phones, then i saw that cyanogenmod are adding support for this phone, and its getting pretty close. So i was wondering, will these isues that people are having, be resolved in cyanogenmod?
The reason i am looking for the optimus 2x, is because its only a 4", i think 4.3" is a bit to big, also if cyanogenmod is coming, and all the "isues" are solved with the phone i really thing this could be a nice phone that should be able to run icecream pretty good aswell, so it wont be outdated in ½ year.
oh, also its on sale atm.. should i strike or wait?

I think most of the issues are software issues and are getting fixed piece by piece. The real hardware issue, you sent the phone for warrenty.....
So I would go for the O2X. I have it since day one, and only Issue I had since then that the phone powerd off like 3 times. 3 Times in 2/3 months is ok for me Since the update it hasn't powerd itself off yet.

I was a HTC user. Almost all the smarthphones i've owned were from HTC.
All the HTC phones I've rooted. Not cause of custom roms or whatever.
Just some setting changes etc...
The O2X I havn't rooted yet. Why? Cause it works as it should work.
On the first stock rom I could get 1.5/2 days out of the battery. And even got 4 days (disabled internet). And now with the new rom I get one day. So that is also a software thing. But still I don't see the need of rooting the phone.
The phone works very good out of the box.

i am comming from a htc desire, that is running cyanogenmod, and tbh i wouldent be able to live with anything else, than that or a clean android experience.
For those, who are considering to buy O2X, my advice it to wait till gingerbread update is released. The phone is a promising one and I also think most of the problems described here, are software related. The UI is quite laggy sometimes, some people have reboot/battery drain/low incall quality etc. So w8 til gingerbread arrives.

I agree with you. Wait for Gingerbread. If this update will not resolve all the problems then its a ****y product.
tnx for the response, desided to wait it out and see.. TBH unless the cm version for it, is bad, or anything like that, i would probaly buy it. I dont plan on running a stock rom any way, i am considering it just because there is cm for it

TBH it's a ****ty product for now and hopefully new firmwares will fix it; for now it's a strange and very picky device. I always think back to the days I just got my HTC Hero; that device only got "fixed" due to paul 'o brien and the cyanogenmod team otherwise i had been selling it a long time ago. Still got the hero though and recently flashed one of the latest oxygen roms on it and it actually amazed me how solid and fast it was; that is one of the beauties of these kind of phones; the communities behind it fixing things.

The stock android experience on the tmobile version still has some of the quirks we experience in the rest of the world, but even with the LG crapware software layer it can be an awesome phone but just don't treat it as a normal android phone; leave the LG crap in place and build on top of it or your phone will reboot/hang/go black (in my experience)

so just to be clear, if i remove all the lg crapware, the phone will run badly ?i thought it was the other way around.
As things stand OP, I just wouldn't bother with this phone...
Had it nearly a month now.. fantastic hardware but the software sucks big time. Super slow and battery life sucks (probably due to software).
Thoughts of waiting for Gingerbread are all well, but LG managed to screw up the current software so well that I have complete faith that they will also screw up that too.
In a couple of months the Galaxy S2 will be out followed a bit later by the Atrix.. I dare say they won't be perfect but I don't think they can be as bad as LG's "effort"..
I really wish I had a HTC Desire, a 2 year old phone over my O2X...
Don't get me wrong, I love Android to pieces, but IMHO if Google can't sort out the mess that too many manufacturers are making of their OS by sticking their own crap on top and making it awful... it'll just push people towards Apple (who I hate). The man in the street just wants a phone that works and doesn't want to be messing around with custom roms etc.
This phone needs a lot of work to make it useable. Out of the box, this phone was crap, battery died within 10 hours, hanged 2-3 times when charging and browsing and needed to take out the battery.
I have some spare time this weekend and finally tried the vanilla rom from paul. It works perfect! No lg crapware, just pure google.
I'm using opera for my browser, listen to music for 4-5 hours with poweramp, downloaded some apps, play samurai 2, and the battery finally died after 30 hours!
Hello,
I have been reading this forum in the past few days but I still can not decide what smartphone should I buy for my birthday which is in about 2 weeks.
To be honest I have never owned a smartphone before, so when I decided to get one recently, I thought it might be better start off with a medium category Samsung Galaxy Ace for about 135 EUR (discounted price as a loyal sub-er).
However, after some further readings I realised it might be better to get a premium category O2X for about 270 EUR (with the same discount), since it will not outdate as fast as SGA, so probably I can use it for 2-3 years while SGA has already lesser apps and its slower processor will be outdated relatively soon. I do not intend to buy any new phone for 2-3 years after I get one now.
Also as a newbie, I think it will take me some time to get familiar with android features so waiting for updates should not be an issue for me (having the freezes and Gingerbread in mind).
As it stands now, O2X seems to be a better investment for me for the long term, but as I have no experience wiht smartphones at all I would like to hear your opinion as well - thanks in advance.

those here that can cope with the o2x know what we've been talking about. How does a fresh one fit in?
- need 2x day on a battery?
don't go near android (but it can be done)
- need an ios like expeience?
the o2x is a no go; you're better of with a high end htc phone
- cutting edge?
the o2x could be it; for now the nexus 1 and nexus S are a better choice
- UX
sense -> go htc! or maybe Sony/Eric
- the most powerfull phone
hey this could be it, for 4 months
You should buy it, cuz it hasent locked bootloader and it very easy phone for the developers, so there will be very good roms, and btw. CM7 is on the way :=)

Thanks for feedback.
The problem is that my provider currently sells 3 types of HTC: Wildfire, Desire and Desire HD. HTC DHD would cost 430 EUR which seems too much for me, normal desire would cost nearly as much as O2X.
Also nexus phones are not avaliable at my provider and there are only 3 types of Xperias avaliable from S/E which I dont really like.
I am kinda bound to my current provider so I do not think I have too many possibilities..

Hi notmevlak!
Yes i totally agree, the Galaxy S is still a very attractive phone and is imo still better than most budget phones in the same price range. I have been running many different roms i all generations (gb, ics and currently jb) and I have to say that JB is amazing on the galaxy S. Iam currently running a stock rom ported from the Galaxy nexus with a galaxy s3 theme (Launcher and everything) and It's silky smooth! Almost no lags at all if youre thinking about the UI.
You can find that rom on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902777
The best way to find a rom that suits your needs is to try them all. I see myself as a real flasholic hehe, it's like youre getting a new phone each time
Good luck! And if youre wondering about anything else, feel free to ask!

In short, no. There is not a single rom out there that won't lag at all. Apps are getting more and more cpu intensive as hardware specs improve. Even low grade androids now have duo core cpus.

I thought 1ghz single core is enough, i don't really play any games or use any hardcore intensive apps. Thats why I wanna cheap phone, but I hate ICS/GB androids lagging. Is rly every jb rom lagging? I think I should go for some cheap wp7.5 phone then
What does lag mean to you?

I guess part of the answer is related to how you define 'lag'...
I have been running CM10 for about a month or so and been really impressed with how fast my GalaxyS runs on Jelly Bean. I haven't tried some of the other roms because CM10 does everything I need really well. I am coming from the earlier GB 2.3.3 version and for me, JB is way faster on this phone. From my experience, similar to many other posts I have read, installing JB was like getting a new phone.
In reality, some apps take a a few seconds to load and you can tell when a given app is taxing the system but to me this is acceptable knowing we only have a single core processor and 512 Mb. I can listen to any song, watch any youtube video and play most games and apps I have tried. It's not perfection and certainly a dual core or quad core rig with 2 gig of memory would be better but you won't get anything like that for $100 or less.
I would never consider a win phone simply because it would be pretty much a dead end for apps...while this phone can still run any app I have tried short of the super intensive games that need a tegra or something...
Will I get a new phone when my contract is up? Sure, if its free. Will this phone do me for another year until then? I'm pretty sure it will...
FYI: CM10 just updated to JB 4.1.2 last night...only a day after it was released for the Nexus 7.
My 2 cents...
Try codename-3.6.5 finally

atm i have the galaxy s, had it since it came out and haven't upgraded since (either didn't feel the need to or too financially challenged lol).
Anyhow, I was on GB roms for ages but changed to JB ones (skipped ICS altogether), and i gotta say the SGS does a fine job running JB. If you're worried about lag and battery problems, I can safely say that the phone handle JB beautifully. You'll probably need to charge the phone at the end of every day but there's not worries about lag or any other issues. Battery drain was my main concerning but I've figured out that you can get the phone lasting off one charge if you turn off wifi and 3G when you aren't using the internet. You won't be able to play games on it for hours but i barely use the phone for games since im bored of them all.
Thinking of selling my gs3 to get some bills handled and was impressed at how cheap this phone was and the development for it. I had this phone a year ago before there was even ICS for it. I understand its not going to perform like my gs3 but bow buttery smooth is.

I prefer cm10linero optimized odex version with blood kernel and feel it is silky smooth. There is so many ROMs out that it is a candy store with something for every taste. 4.1.2 version is standards now with 4.2 in works. Bang for bucks this cell has been very good and beyond reliable to me.

take it from someone who also came from the s3...this phone isnt to bad considering what it is....obviously the camera isnt as good the screen size sucks ass but with cm,pa,aokp etc and an oc kernel its tolerable
Is there any one working on touch wiz 5.0 for ICS/jellybean? Touch wiz on gingerbread sucks but since ICS+ wiz has really become nice practical minus the stupid zoom in and out by swyiping the side...really Samsung?

Pretty much what I was going to say right to the last word (except I haven't owned an S3).
I should also throw in the fact that we have very little RAM, and it makes multitasking a pain in the ass at times, especially on ICS and JB. Or impossible at times, rather... A few small apps are usually fine, but that's about the limit. I've played with the minfree's to no end, adjusted the low-memory killer over and over to find a sweet spot, but I don't think one even exists here.
Basically what it comes down to is: If you want multitasking, expect lag/freezes. If you want performance, expect your apps to start over every time you switch back. Also expect to keep a task killer on deck at all times.
I'm currently running SmoothieJB with Tim1928's kernel and it's been a fantastic combo. Fast, stable, (relatively) decent multitasking and great battery life. It's one of the best experiences I've had on this phone, so much that I almost don't want to touch anything else in fear of losing what I've got... But deep inside, I'm a flashaholic. I will succumb to my temptations sooner or later.

Get twrp or cwm installed
Rom wipe cwm or cache/dalvik cache/system wipe twrp

Always make backup prior to above

I've heard that CM10 can have trouble with 3rd party camera aps, such as bank check deposit etc. Anyone found that? If so what is the best option for that? I haven't flashed to JB yet mainly because I don't want to lose that checking account option.
That has been brought up many times in past. My beat suggestion for a work around though may seem excessive would be to make a nandroid of a full functioning cm9 and use it for checking and use the cm10 or 10.1 as your daily. I know it isn't the answer liked but it will suffice.

Ok, so I have a dumb question. How easy is it to switch back and forth between CM10 and CM9? Would this mean flashing the ROM all the time? Since I've never done any ROM flash, being a total noob, I haven't experienced one flash much less trying to switch back and forth all the time.

Well if you had a nandroid of both, you could just restore either whenever you wanted to, provided that you make a nandroid every time you change something.
Hmmmm. Cumbersome just to have check deposit. I'll have to think on this for a while. I suppose it takes a few minutes each time: make nandroid in CM 10, flash CM 9, deposit check, flash CM 10 and do this for each check. I don't do checks very often so it may still be worthwhile.
Do you happen to know if this is an issue being addressed and just might be fixed for, say, a CM11 release?
Hi all,
I just sold my LG optimus 3d P920 and looking to buy my next smart phone. After a while this one seems to be a good choice with nice performance/price where I live. But still, I have some questions:
_ Given the bad reputation of LG for late (or sometimes, even no) software update, is this phone any different? What are the current android versions this device can run? Are most people happy or disappointed?
_ How is the community's support for the 4x HD? Are there many custom ROMs? Are rooting/ installing roms/ reverting back to stock roms easy? Are there good CyanogenMod ROMs/MIUI ROMs or other AOSP ROMs for this device?
_ How is the overall user experience towards this phone? Is it worthy to buy? Is it good to use casually in real life?
I've read some reviews about this phone but those asked above are real life experience related, so I have to ask you guys here. Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
advice is don't buy this one, some of us still can not unlock bootloader which means you don't have tons of custom roms, for now.
and the memory is small, most big games running lag like ****.
i don't play games with my phone so i don't really care about this.

Well game lags have nothing to do with the amount of memory...its the kernel. With this said...the JB update via OTA will unlock the bootloader and with this custom Rom and kernels will come and the performance issues will be dealt with...this is the only problem with this phone...everything else is butter smooth...the screen is amazing ...the design and form factor are both great. Overall its a great phone with still untapped potential. Just wait till LG decided to effin update it, and the beast will be awoken.
Custom Roms and developer support will come with the official update...so it's just a matter of time. CyanogenMod as far as I know have been talked about ...but not until the phone is fully unlocked.
Rooting is available on ICS via the standard means but on the leaked JB beta but it's a bit dodgy.
So yeah great hardware, scrappy software support, but as soon as its updated and unlocked, I bet it's gonna be a beast of a phone.

I would say dont buy it. But it depends on the money you want to spend.

Welcome to our forum .
I was an Optimus 3D user too .
About root and recovery we have both of them . And about Dev's they are little at the moment but we have dexter someone like xbsall or maybe better he can port recoveries , kernels , ROMs .
The bootloaders WAS locked but now with JB it's unlocked .
This device is new compared with P920 so little devs here until now .
For me I see it exellent and the best for its price .

My O4X have a lot dust under the screen The bootloader will be unlocked with the JB upgrade, so new roms are coming. The performance of the HW is good for every day tasks, I do not use it for games.
For a branded, advanced hardware and cheap device go for it.Just an heads up the camera has autofocus issues but works perfectly with other camera apps. Rest it is par with other action packed devices. But development of this phone is still in its toddler stage. So if you dare to wait like us then
Like people say: best screen, speed and hardware specs/battery for the price.
Only problem is lack of custom bootloader.. which isn't much of a problem for most users anyway. Camera isn't extremely good. But if you download another camera-app, that's easily fixed, so...
Another thing - you kind of don't actually want a phone to get updates every week. Lots of people on the internet make a huge buzz about how that is fantastic. But it's usually just proof that the entire program package is full of huge bloatware and bugs that need to be sorted out..
Just bought the phone, thanks a lot guys! Now to root and install recovery
If you want to play games, which is the main thing in buying a tegra 3 phone, you will get disappointed. Even temple run Oz lags on max graphs...

I owned this fone, and can share some of my experience with gaming on it. All of the gameploft games lag, som more some less, but you will find gems like batman, spiderman, Modern combat 3,4 lagy and unplayeble. I know that it's due to bad optimization from gameloft, but thats how it is. NFS most wanted is unplayeble, you can also see from the video above that it's running like 15-20 fps- it look smooth but its slow, just look at the time count how much one second takes. Asphalt 7 used to lag but with new update its fine. I used to play a lot of real racing 2 which playes buttery smooth, but real racing 3 lags badly. There is a workaround for real racing 3 to set low graphics and play smoothly.
Games developed for tegra plays fine with some added effects, but still on other devices you can add those ass well. All the other games are running fine, like those 2d and not so demandign 3d titles.
But sill for the price you'll get a great device witha perfect display, with removable battery and an sd card slot wthich a lot of devices from this category lack..But if you want to play demanding 3d games, especialy from gameploft, pay a few more bucks and get something else like s3 or nexus 4.
i have it for 270€ only... i replaced my Xperia S iwth this, because i think - tegra 3, great, gaming phone ... so another mistake...
I am too planning to buy this phone.. Hows the expericnce so far?
I guess, by now, lot of new ROMs are available?

Well some people have RIL problems, some people have GPS problems and its signal being reduced if headphones are plugged in. It's not a bad phone but some people have issues. As for roms you have some good cm based roms (and a very good official CM11) and we already have lollipop working good.
If I were you I'd choose a more recent phone like the Moto G or even a Nexus 5, unless you have a really really good deal.

Oh, there's a ton of ROMs (mostly KitKat at the time of writing, though more Lollipop ROMs are in the making).
It really depends on how willing you are to mod it and how much it costs by now. I would advice against buying it if you don't wanna mod it, there are phones with the same specs which are running stock L. Really, by now it depends on how much it costs. I wouldn't pay the €270 I paid for it now, I'm pretty sure there are better devices by now in that price range.

with the right custom rom and the right twiking this phone runs great, but..............................................
its all about the price, if you can get it for 100$ go ahead
if its more then this go for the one plus one, its only 300$ and it's absolutely a monster.
