I have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000 Euro which I have been painfully trying to get on to CM7 for the last few days. The problem I have is when I flash back to a stock Froyo (2.2.1) my wifi won't connect to wpa connections. This isn't brilliant for me as my home router is secured with WPA and I do not wish to change it, as the people living in my area are all mostly IT specialists and would take advantage of a wep or unsecured network. This is due to the slow speeds we get in our area.
Does anyone know of a way to flash an older rom on to my phone whilst keeping the ability to connect to wifi properly once it is running CM7?
I am currently running a 2.3.3 rom downloaded from samfirmware.com
Thanks in advance for any help
Why is your WiFi-connection 'broken' with Froyo? My router is also secured with WPA and don't have any problems...

This I cannot figure out, I tried everything from enabling/disabling wifi/GPS/BT and wiping and starting all over again. All of these methods resulted in my phone being unable to connect to my WPA secured wifi, any unsecured connection nearby connects straight away. I seem to get stuck in an obtaining IP address loop, which never resolves.
Have you ever tried another modem?

How do I do that? On 3g its a little difficult to download a different modem as the extras for cyanogenmod won't load properly in the ROM Manager app.

A different modem won't help...wifi is controlled by the kernel, not the modem.

Have you tried connecting to a different AP using wpa?
Also, go into advanced wifi and set up a static IP. That may do the trick.

WiFi has nothing to do with the modem? Ok, didn't know that.

Not Odin. Custom kernels are flashed from recovery as zip files. Very quick and easy.
Tried a few other methods of doing this and every time it gets broken. Are there any other fixes I can use to get wifi to work again? Any files I can modify myself or delete?
Right, managed to convince my other (better?) half to let me try it on her phone as we both got the same phones at the same time. Will post results soon...
Ok, same thing happened with the wifes phone so I decided to dig an old wireless router out of the shed and set it up with WPA security. And the phone then connected. So I'm not entirely happy with the crap that is my BTHomeHub. All in all, I'm now running CM7 RC1 and I'm happy as larry with it
Congratulation!

whats about reflashing the stock rom or in case it wont work afterwards a different android version

That is not my network. It is from bars in the city. I reflashed rom. And works fine until I root my phone. because of that i using now stock rom unrooted

do you use any apps like greenpower or juicedefender. Perhaps wifi control is enabled. Perhaps a different baseband can help. You find some odin-flashable in the wiki
You can't have it for 2 years, cause it is 1,5 years old phone about the problem..try changing settings in router?

Fix for wifi issue with Belkin Routers mainly
It's a problem with the DHCP leasing of the router. Possibly Belkin routers are particular culprits.
- If you change DHCP leasing from 'forever' to '2 days' it fixes the problem and you don't need to use a Static IP.
In other words, for some wierd reason the wifi on 2.3.6 has a problem on some routers with the 'forever' DHCP setting.
I also had the same problem and once changed dhcp lease time it got resolved..
Do this and confirm... It is a bug in 2.3.6 actually... Previous 2.3.x and later version 3xx dont have this issue.
Hope it helps..

In earlier versions of CM9 (I'm not sure if it was changed) scale was simply different - you could have 4 bars on GB, but only 2 on CM9 for same signal strength. It's better to use dedicated app to test such things (WiFi Analyzer for example).
As for final fixes... (off-topic) compass never worked for me on any rom/kernel on ICS or JB (it was fine only on GB). It shows something, but that's definitely not a right direction (moving phone only a bit gives odd results). I wonder if that will ever be fixed.
