You'll need to unlock your bootloader to install custom ROMs. As for root apps, there are a lot but to name a few: Root Browser, AdFree, Clean Master, Greenify, Startup Manager, and if you're going to be flashing ROMs, Titanium Backup, I cannot recommend the pro version enough.

Thanks I have safestarp and am running inflikted...any good ROMs you'd reccomend...I have clean master and root explorer to pro....I was not a fan of titanium back up...maybe it was just a bit confusing to me

Don't use safestrap with an unlocked bootloader man. Your setting yourself up for failure. It's mentioned at least a hundred times. Hell even in the title of the safestrap thread.

It seems to be working okay as of now...like I said I'm new to this...I think safe strap was in the same file with inflikted... What would you recommend using?

Clock work?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app

Yes and the new touch version works great.

watch out if you got big fingers lol

could someone post a link or instructions on how to uninstall safestrap correctly and get cwm..plz and thanks

Delete what ever partition you created with ss. Then start your phone and go into the app and click uninstall. Then use myth tools to flash cwm.

Hell, I have small fingers and it's an issue. I always have to be very careful selecting "+++Go Back+++" after I tap the wrong option so as not to erase anything like user data.

You can only change the kernel and baseband on these phones with a OTA update from Motorola. Our bootloader is locked.
You can return the phone to stock software with one of the FXR apps that are available. But the baseband and kernel will remain unchanged. I used this one successfully last weekend: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/5484-r3l3as3droot-and-43v3r-root-for-the-bionic-v21/
Will the method mentioned on the RootWiki site also remove the bootstrap/CWM if installed?
Yes it will
So basically I can load bootstrap and cwm from koush and something like liberty and then go back to the way it was when unboxed with no sign of any changes? The reason I ask is I am still in my 14 day return window.

Help with Moto Droid.

Hello this is my first time here and this is very different than the xperia play section. Well my friend has a moto droid and.I would like to know how to.root it and unlock the bootloader. Also what is the fastest and most stable rom? Thank you for your time
Sent from my R800x using XDA
...first off, wrong section. This should be in Q&A.
Second off following any of the below advice is at your own risk (mainly because this is 100% from memory and I can remember things wrong sometimes ). Before you trust what I tell you I recommend reading the Q&A section, as I assure you you're not the first person to ask how to root the first android phone to be offered by Americas largest carrier.
The OG Droid doesn't require anything to unlock the boot loader, its not locked.
Since its on such an outdated version of android pretty much any generic one click root tool should work to get root. Try super one click or the like. From there you should be able to use rom manager to flash a current recovery. Then just put one of the fine roms from these here development forums on the SD card and have fun.

Can someone post a guide or someting about how to make the phone faster? anyway want rom do u recommend?
Do a search on here, there have been plenty of threads, also check out droid forums, they have stuff too. That's how I learned a lot just reading. Once you've rooted its easy. A good app to check out since you're rooted is rom manager, set cpu, titanium backup, wireless tether, file manager. Always make a nandroid backup before flashing a rom or kernel( provides overclock)

Yes I have those apps on my xplay. Thanks for being so helpful. I'll check out the droid forums and do more researching here. Btw I think my friend doesn't care if I should do this for them anymore. You know how those people who know nothing about these things are

you can download rsd lite and flash the clockworkmod recovery spf. It won't root your phone, but it will give you a recovery(which is better). Now just install your custom rom. I recommend cyanogenmod 7 or steel droid for stability and speed, their also pre-rooted, maybe find a Overclocked kernel if you want INSANE speeds...
Cyanogenmod 7 for droid 1: http://oss.reflected.net/stable/update-cm-7.1.0-Droid-signed.zip
Google Apps: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Steel Droid 10.5(I REALLY RECOMMEND this is what I USE, it's also overclocked to 1ghz) http://bravo.d-h.st/PfV?key=1340527851
SN:Google apps not needed with steel droid.
If you need more help here's a guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Droid_2:_Full_Update_Guide
Hope this helps you friend... There may come a time when you have to do all the research yourself... if so remember, Google's your friend too!!!:good:
If this helped you, click thanks...

Chainfire bricked my phone. Help!

Posting this on behalf of my friend.
I installed Chainfire and when I installed the drivers, the phone rebooted and got stuck at the Motorola logo. Wiping the data and cache doesn't work.
Phone was on JB. No Safestrap.
What to do to fix it? Please ask me any questions, I'll ask me and I'll let you people know.

Try to flash the Rom using Odin ...download it from here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885561:cowboy: .......
It says right in the description !! For Froyo and Gingerbread ONLY. NOT COMPATIBLE with Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean !!
Multiple people here at XDA have screwed their phones up with Chainfire by installing it on incompatible software. Most of the Tegra 3 work arounds with Chainfire don't work anymore anyways.
Phone is fixed now. Thanks. Flashed 4.1 Rom using rsdlite.

Yeah, took some time to figure it out, had to edit the xml on the JB zip. Thanks all

For anyone reading this in the future, Odin is NOT for flashing our phones. Round these parts we use RSDLite.
Sheesh, these samsung kids come in here like they own the place..

Error when flashing gapps

Well I was installing a custom system ui. And I didn't make a ss backup. My bad I know. Well the phone wouldn't boot up past recovery so I deleted the ROM slot and created a new one to reinstall a fresh copy of joker but when flashing the gapps the screen flashes off then goes back to the add zip screen. Any ideas?

Lol sure. To check all you need to do is cruise to your system app folder and see if there is odex files in there. Just send it to me again and I'll do it right quick.

Flashing CWM recovery question

I have the AHD w/ 4.1.1 rooted. Other than rooting it, its stock. I haven't installed SafeStrap like everyone else and I'm going to unlock my bootloader shortly. So how should I go about flashing CWM recovery afterwards? I want to go from unlocking to flashing recovery without SafeStrap. Thanks

Easiest way is to download ROM manager and install the recovery for the photon q.

It works like it was made for ours.

I decided to use ROM Manager and install the Photon Q cwm. Works like a charm. I did a full backup & restore of my stock rooted 4.1.1 without a hitch. Mounted /system, wiped and reset, then flashed Batakang Rises and gapps... I can't complain at all! Haven't had any FCs or anything. Battery life is much better for sure!
