Hi Everyone,
New here and can't wait to try out my first Rom flash. I just had a question though. I was following the instructions in the first post about recommending i backup my current rom.
I tried to follow the instructions in this video
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
In the video it said i had to download 3 files. The third one being called ruu_signed. However, when i tried to download it, it said the download limit had been exceeded. Is there any place else to download it? Also, i have a US version phone, the ruu_signed available there is a UK version. Does that matter?
thanks everyone, this has been driving me nuts.
I tried to do a search for the ruu_signed file using the search but didn't have any luck.
Well, I received my jig and can get into download mode any time now.
First thing I did was flash Darky's Rom 10.2. It now says my igh-897 is an i9000.
Also, it runs very slow. I am for one looking for greater speed. I tried to install the resurrection.zip file, but an error broke out saying the file was in the wrong format. There are just too many things missing that I can see from darky's rom.
So, now I am thing of Fasty's rom. Is this a good choice. Will it increase my processor speed? Can someone PLEASE tell me what files to get, where they are and how to flash them. At lease I have a current working phone, but I need to upgrade this.
Again, please point me to a good rom (open to suggestions), and where to find the files and what to enter into odin.
Thanks,
Viper
There [url-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007697]is a thread[/url] devoted to the Darky's ROM as well as ROM thread in development (where questions aren't asked, but answers are found). You've been given one link, find the rest on your own via the search function.

There is a thread devoted to the Darky's ROM as well as a ROM thread in development (where questions aren't asked, but answers are found). You've been given one link, find the rest on your own via the search function. It does sound as though you didn't do enough reading before you flashed a ROM. Read the stickies provided for more information.
I want to use slim ics. The last time I tried it it showed me no service. How do I properly install it? Any help appreciated.
If you are not on an ICS build then follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
And when you are finished with this guide:
Put the slim ics 3.6 base and essentials on to your sdcard
format data
clear cache
clear dalvik cache
then flash the slim ics base
then flash the essentials
If the base flashed too quickly ie. under 5 seconds then flash it again before flashing essentials.
This is what I have done and its fine.
Hope this helps.
Hi, I exaclty did like shizz22 suggest and it works great for me.
Hope you'll be able to do it and have fun with it
Thanks guys. I will use that later. Now i'm very happy with ICSSGS. I will use your info later.

Yeah I quite like ICSSGS. I'll probably go back when their new one is out.
No luck
I've been happy Slim ICS 3.4 user for about 2 months. Then checked that there is a 3.7 version and decided to upgrade. After download of base and I9000 essentials I've made an md5 check, which failed for both files. Considering that in the Android development topic people reported successful update to 3.7, I decided that the md5 published on the site must be wrong. To make sure it is not a download error, downloaded them several times but the md5 check failed everytime. Still decided to go and update and now I have softbricked my SGS. I'm a new user and don't have 10 posts to warn other users in the Slim ICS thread, so if someone here could do that, it would be great for the community. Now through the painful unbrick of my phone ..
The slim installer does not contain any modem
So upgrading from gb to slim requires you to flash a modem after the base+essential to get service

Is this advise for me or original poster? Also how does it help? Coming from gb rom you inevitably have a modem, so what gives?

Just follow this guide to get back to GB and onto and ICS rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493 (I'm assuming you can't apologies if you can)
Then just download the .zip files and transfer it to your phone and flash accordingly. http://code.google.com/p/slimics37/downloads/list
I downloaded the base via my phone and got the Md5 error but I flashed it anyway (wasn't planning to but forgot about the error) and it worked fine. I downloaded the essentials through my computer though so that may have been the problem?
back in the game

I know how to unbrick the SGS, at least from softbrick, thanks for your advise anyways. I just wanted to warn anybody else that might be absend-minded and does not check the md5s. But after all it seems you are right, although they did not match, after my unbrick I used the same files and this time it worked. Here's what I did: flashed essentials first, rebooted to recovery, formated system in mounts and storage, flashed base + essentials, rebooted. All fine and dandy, except, there is no modem as the original poster stated. Flashed one modem from the respective section here in XDA and I'm back in the game.

I don't know what you did, but for me it worked the first time and I didn't have any md5 error. I downloaded it from the website, not via OTA.
OTA gave me the error. Still worked with the Base. Used the essentials from the website.

i upgraded from 3.6 to 3.7 without problem. As it was recommended, I cleared my data and upgraded to 3.7 and restored some files from TB

Hi all,
I have just flashed to the stock ROM as per the instructions in the WIKI but when i boot it asks to enter a password and won't do anything else.
Searching the forums i came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451212 which talks about flashing honeystreak from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216374
The honeystreak download links in that thread don't seem to be working any one. Does anyone have a link i can download these files to restore my device or different method i can use to go back to stock.
I would like to flash giveens new CM9 package and his instructions says to start from stock.
thanks
I was just reading other posts in this forum and came across this http://d-h.st/users/TheManii/?fld_id=5697#files
Looks like i found what i was looking for.
Thanks
After updating my new Optimus 4X to 2.1 by waiting on LG's official update it seems slow and hangs when coming back to the homescreen so since people here said they have no issues on CM 10.1 I attempted to read up on how to do it all but got lost amongst all the sticky threads and various downloads etc to try and find a reasonably easy way to update to android 4.2.
Is there a more simple way to do everything I need to follow to have my phone from the current 2.1 latest LG update to CM 10.1 with 4.2 such as a single step by step thread in plain english that even new users could follow or view in a video? (I have previously updated a Sony x10 via similar methods but can't fully remember everything)
Threads/Sites I looked at that left me a little confused included:
Root method for v20a (and probably later) firmware (Had also looked at a site with instructions to use Googles sdk kit and cmd.exe to run adb oem -unlock...)
Update firmware through flashing the kdz files (With Picture) Step by Step (liked the look of this but is it needed if we already now have up to 2.1? Then tried to get files from CM 10.1 official site which never made much sense using this method requiring KDZ files or can .zips be used?)
Official ClockworkMod ROM Manager Downloads (tried a download of these then the latest seen here as Nightly releases but wasn't too sure how to use them after reading their wiki took me to some more serious looking developer areas)
[JB][412][CWM] ClockWorkMod 6.0.2.8 (FREEDOM for EUR-xxx) (Just started getting confused by here)
If anyone could help explain what happens in this whole process it'd be greatly appreciated as I tried reading a lot but ended up lost, and if there is a fairly straightforward way to do it if it can be shared to help anyone else too...
If not does anyone know if LG are likely to fix the issues with homescreen freezing/slow icons loading (phone non responsive for a few seconds - there was a couple of threads here, one with a solution that never worked) or bring an official release of 4.2 or beyond and should I just wait till then or try to go back to a working 4.0.3?
All help would be appreciated to point in the right direction with all the right threads/guide sites/videos needed to follow please.
Root your phone. Unlock your bootloader. Install recovery with ROM manager or off the thread in your post. Use clockworkmod to install cyanogenmod. I will not explain more because I fear you haven't done enough reading and may run into problems. Do the things I said in that order, and read the guides thoroughly. All the info is already here

Thank you, this worked and was what I needed, went about it in some fiddly ways but got there in the end...
