Every so often my touchscreen will freeze up and become unresponsive, necessitating a press of the power button to lock and unlock the screen again. It happens mostly whilst texting, but has just occurred 5 times whilst tapping out this message!
My c5303 is rooted, as per Doomlord's rooting thread, running on 257......
Anyone having this problem?
This is the problem bro.
This happens to me when the phone is charging but since u r facing this idle u should contact the service centre

It seems the screen isn't freezing totally, it would appear to be the keyboard when texting becomes unresponsive, along with the three onscreen buttons at the bottom....i can often scroll up and down on the screen. Strange.....also I have noticed it tends to be when the phone is flat rather than in my hand? don't know if this is related to problems others have had with the phone being layed flat?
Wiping dalvik cache fixed it for me

I've noticed the screen being awake for no apparent reason when on charge, occasionally happens when not on charge too, why is this happening?

+1 ,
The same for me .
I set the screen timeout to "never" so some times the phone turns off because of this issue .
I thought that I'm the only one who has this problem .

Same thing here. Got my phone yesterday, and noticing today that the screen keeps coming on of it's own accord. No apparent trigger, no email or text received at the time.
Anybody got any ideas, is the phone faulty?

Possible power button fault, it happens for me on jellybean too. I had to enable a pin lock to stop it doing stuff in my locket at work

Hey on my Xperia Z stock rom nothing flashed, when it is in standby (screen off) randomly the screen glows and does not stop, like the screen is still off but it's like the back light has come on? is this normal? seems to be a power wasting thing to me. unless i look at it from a slight angel (during the day) i can not actually tell it's on, i'm assuming this is why my screen is using 60+% of my battery is there a fix for this?
Are you using any power saving mode?

Stamina mode.
I have the exact same thing happen, and it is definitely a pain as like you say you can only notice it when looking at an angle, and as I have a flip case on mine I only notice while charging. It is just a case of pressing the power button twice to turn off but that is obviously only when you notice it's doing it! lol
I use stamina mode on mine (which is great) but not sure if this is anything to do with the backlight being left on as it only does it sometimes?
I had this issue when i first got my phone ,and not anymore. Not sure how it solved cause i did lot of factory reset and flashing firmwares.
Are you using light flow or any third party apps?

I get this too. I get it when it's locked and it comes back on. Also when I unlock the screen sometimes this happens and I have to turn the screen off and on again to fix it.
Happening here also but not often. I thought it was low battery mode but happens when it's disabled as well.

No i'm not using any third party light apps, seems like this may be an actual bug if multiple people are experiencing it
I have only done one reset/repair to fix the LED notification light bug.
Hope this helps
I know how to fix this. I have an xperia z1 so im not sure if my problem is the same but i use my phone as an alarm so i notice at night the screen is glowing while its standby. If you go to settings or maybe you have it in quick settings go to brightness and deactivate "adapt to lighting conditions" then it should be a black screen woth no glow in standby mode
any one else have this issue with Xperia Z ?
i can make calls or recieve calls and then the screen goes black when put to my ear as it should, but most of the time [not all the time] when i finish the call and take it away from my ear it wont light up so i can't end the call. i have to wait for the other person to hang up, and even then sometimes it wont light up.
they hang up the phone call doesn't end so it just stays black and i can't do anything.
i can restart it by pressing the off button and volume up at the same time, but i don't want to have to restart my phone every time i make a phone call.
has any one had this issue?
Could be software issue, ie a third party app, for example justshake and similar apps have options to alter proximity sensor activity but I stay away from altering them. The only time I have a similar issue is with modded Skype but a brief press or two of power button restores the screen so not a big issue.
You should try in service menu if your sensor is functioning properly.
A small workaround to end call without having to use the screen is to enable ens call with power button press which is in accessibility settings of the phone, so don't need to wait for another party to hang up or to reboot your phone

Proximity sensor
Mine started doing the same thing. After reinstalling and checking if it might be a software issue, I did some research and came across this: talk.sonymobile.com/thread/126533?start=0&tstart=0
I've taken my phone in, and awaiting a response. (The phone is just over a week old, so it just fell out of the "automatic RMA" period).
I put a skin on front... Now having issues... Is there a way to just disable it...

I had the same problem and did like the post #31 on the linked thread says :
Press firmly on the proximity senson with your thumb (located beside the notification led).
I have a screen protector and did not remov it and it now works like a charm.
Hope it helps.
xperia z. I have the same problem after installing the spg glass protector ver1. Since the ver2 has a cutout at the proximity sensor, I do not like it and therefore keep on using the ver1 without the cutout. I prefer to disable the proximity sensor instead of having a pit on the screen surface. Just add the line:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
to the end of the file build.prop located in /system, reboot, and the sensor will be disabled.
The way to activate the screen during a phone call is to press the power button twice.
Hope this help.
Explanation/please

Can i ask how do i reach this settings. I tryed different data searches via phone and with PC (ofc with mobile connected). But i dont seem to find this system folder no matter where i look. Maybe you can make a tutorial for me or just say where to look. Thanks
You need to be rooted. The build.prop file is in /system.
An easier way to add the property to your build.prop would be to use build.prop editor - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
I will just say - BE CAREFUL when editing that file. If you edit the wrong thing, you can stop your phone booting.

I've tired all these solutions above but unfortunately I'm still facing same problem and it's really frustrating
My phone isn't rooted so I can't disable proximity sensor
If there is any other solutions ?
Install proximity smart cover from market. The screen will then come on when you take the phone away from your ear.
In settings:
Enable device admin
Turn screen off - never
Turn screen on - 0 seconds
Then go back and start the service

I was going crazy with this sensor problem, and tried all sort of thing including resetting my phone multiple times. The suggestion you mentioned here worked like a charm.
As the title says. When I lock the screen using the power button I get about a 1.5 second lag between when thr button is pressed and the screen goes off. This doesn't happen every time. Any ideas? Also my transitions to .5 keeps resetting itself back to 1! So frustrating
I experience exactly the same lagging while locking the phone. A fix to this solution would be much appreciated! Thank you...
I have the same issues, even when all the fancy settings (watercolor and sounds) are turned off it still lags.

I had that issue as well for a little bit, but it seems to have went away by itself for me.
I had some of the same issues but I noticed when i rooted and did a full wipe of the phone a lot of these small issues went away. One that bothered me was screen rotate. It would take about 2-3 sec to switch.
Having the same issue

Same issue here. Although there was at least one instance that i locked the device and it made the lock sound play, but the screen remained on for well over 5-10 seconds. Weird. Might be related to the new packet mode thing this phone has where it uses little power to deliver messages while the screen is off. I forgot the name of it.
I have figured out that if you disable multiple widget lockscreen it makes it turn on/off faster.
I am now experiencing this! When I was rooted on m1 I never had this problem but now that I'm on mj5 rooted it lags horribly on the lockscreen..... But not all the time only every once in a while! Has anyone figured out a fix? I'm contemplating a factory reset!

Hello, I have a problem.
Left-top corner of the screen, when my phone is awake, is acting like someone put a finger on, and taps the notification bar and holds it like that, and my phone won't respond properly, until I lock phone and unlock it again. But then again, that thing happens again. Sometimes it does not happend, but most of the time, it's happening, And it is irritating. Sorry for bad explanation, I did not know how else to explain. Thanks.
Known as ghost touch.
Also caused when phone is hot, search a little bit on forum.
Only fix which is temporarily, is lock/unlock phone or restart
