[solved] [I8190] Stock root / cf root? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
The case is, my old galaxy S2 phone did slide out of my hands so I was kinda forced to buy a new one, the screen was totally shot. On my old phone I had a stock rom rooted with CF-Root. After long searches on google and here (search function) I'm still not sure on what version I need to get root back. Normally this was easy because I had a "normal" phone like my old S2. Now I bought a S3 mini (I8190) and see some root options but not with the version I need.
Because of budget problems I had to buy the phone with T-Mobile, so T-Mobile programs and stuff. If I need to get another (official) stock rom to get the device rooted, then I will do this but if there is a version with no problems at all, then can someone point me out, please?
To be clear, I'm just a regular user and in the past I used the guides here but since I do not see the version I need, I'll be asking you wonderful guys (and girls perhaps) to point me out. Because I'm a regular user and not nearly as smart as you, I rather not use some custom rom.
Some info on the device:
Device: Samsung Galaxy S3 mini GT-I8190
Software: Android 4.1.2
Buildnumber: JZO54K-.I8190XXAME1 (I did see a XXAMG1 but I do not know if this is compatible or works, I do not want to brick my phone ofcourse)
Baseband version: I8190XXAME1
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
DC80
Edit: I did found this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030282 but is it compatible or will I brick my phone?

You might get connectivity problems with a unbranded fw, but you wont brick it by trying.
What country?
You can always flash cwm or twrp recovery in odin and then flash supersu zip to get root.

hi,
I'm from the netherlands. I guess that i will stick with t-mobile then. Anyway, thank you very much for the support! I will hit the thanks button. I'd still like to have root though.

Hi all,
I would like to say thank you to the guys who supported me. Although I'm a regular user, I'm happy that this is possible. This is what I have done:
Thanks to the reply of Tys0n (one of the links in his signature) I was led to one of his topics to this topic here from Seedrom193.
I followed his instructions on how to install CWM and then the root.zip file. I succeeded in doing so however I do have a note on it.
When I was done, every thing seemed to work properly except for the buttons on the bottom of the device. Before I screamed **** I tried to reboot the device. That helped me a lot.
So, if other users have the same problem, try a reboot first.
Kind regards,
DC80
@moderators: this topic may be closed and I will mark it as solved.

[Q] SGT: SPH-P100 Yellow brick roaded

First, MODS: I apologize if this is posted in the wrong thread, but I can't find anything along the lines of help I need, and since I started here, I was thinking I'd end here... Please move if necessary.
So I have recently learned that not all Android devices are as easily rooted/modded as my EVO (rooted my GF's Optimus S, and ended up on the couch for months, and around the same time, rooted the Sprint SGT she got me for X-Mas, and have only gotten the Optimus S working again, but remain on the couch for bricking my SGT).
I am in dire need of help getting my SGT back to stock (if that's even possible) or at least back to rooted with a stock ROM. I rooted my SGT in preparation for the Honeycomb port (which was apparently a bust(?) and after flashing that port, then Boushh's AOSP ROM, I can boot to download mode (with neither Heimdall or Odin reognizing the device) or I can attempt to boot to recovery and get nothing but the Samsung splash.
I have all drivers installed, and I PROMISE I have learned my lesson, and should have never rooted to begin with, but if ANYONE could please help me get my SGT back, I would TRUELY appreciate it!
I have just recently gotten semi-familiar with ADB again (Optimus S fix) but I'm not really in a place to start pushing commands without guidance.
I'm sorry again if this is the incorrect thread, I didn't know where else to post, but I REALLY need help. We really couldn't afford the SGT to begin with, so I feel horrible that I've bricked it, and can't do anything with it anymore.
Sorry to be a gnat...

No worries buddy, I know how it feels, since you posted already here's how your proceed:
1. get Odin 1.7
2. if you want stock, go to samfirmware.com and download the ROM corresponding to your device
3. Bear in mind that most stock ROM are shipped with locked bootloader, if you don't care skip step 4/5
4. download super one click root from shortfuse.org
5. root your device and either get a ROM with removed bootloaders or get the bootloader patch by chainfire, found in this forum somewhere
6. While being in the "yellow" screen flash using odin
Hope this helps.
He has a cdma tab. Sprint right?
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969892&highlight=sprint+stock
As your last resort. If not go back to sprint tell them tab isnt switxhing on.
How about flashing a kernel that installs cwm?

As long as you flash the no modem software you are good. That is the key. No modem.
Probably a driver issue if it's not being seen in ODIN.
if its not seen it doesnt matter either, you turn off and turn on again, you'll see a black screen with some kind of logo, then I usually flash a rotohammer release, this is always the life saver

Usually when having both, Odin and Heimdal installed, one of them needs to be removed...

Yup. ODIN takes a separate driver that conflicts with heimdall and vice versa.

Hi I can't even enter download mode after my Odin update failed. It's just a black screen and when I plug it into the computer it's not recognised at all.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Help! Just a bit confused !!???s

Hey folks new to this house and it seems like you folks know what you are doing. Big thanks to the developers of the Paranoid (2) devs. and all of the support peeps out there through the post. Read through themes and roms section but I not seeing answers to my confusion. Looking for some help understanding the features described above and how to get the most out of it..very cool though..just would like to know how to really put it to the test! I was able to get this far from the original FW to gingerbreak, to ICS to Paranoid based on the threads her and I appreciate it much folks..now I seem to be at a brick wall..need help trying to figure this out. I appreciate that the phone isn;t the latest thing on the market but it what I have right now. Would appreciate any and all help just trying to get a grip on this puppy! Thanks Smitty
Oh, every time I see something that looks like it should work on my phone besides not knowing how to install..LOL why does it come up Nexus! Are they similar phones or something!! Thanks again
What's on the phone as of now!
Samsung captivate SGH I897
Android Ver. 4.11
Baseband 19000XXJVU
Kernal: 3.0-.31-01749-gf84bc96
Cyanogen Mod: 10.0.0-RCO-capitvatemid
Paranoid Ver. 2.16
Build# pa-capativate-userdebug 4.1.1 JR003R eng.
Now my question is I want to load on different roms to the phone and be able to go back and forth between these ROMS as I like. I have attempted to use Goo Manager ..that was loaded when I installed Pananooid Ver. 2.16. When I boot into recovery it states that mt recovery ver. is : CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4.
I was trying to load some of the roms that are a part of the Paranoid install and I when I choose from one of these options:
Browse compatiable rom
Browse all files
check for updates..(says there are no updates)
Download gapps packages
Root recovery
flash roms
Copatiable roms:
aokp/devs/aokp
BAKED /devs/BAKED
cm/devs/cm
LronLyons/dev/IronLyon
If I choose any of them you get another list and then another list..it says:
EX: aokp_captivatemid_jb_build-4.zip..just one example ..there are many listed below that as well for each of the roms listed above.
Then I see the file name as above and below that : Begin download and then below that Download Gapps..how do I know which one to download?
Under browse all files :
devs/devs
gapps/gapps
ruu/ruu
stock/stock..choose the first one and get a list of all these different names ..such as adhvanit/devs/advanit..in these cases are these all the groups who produce ROMS?
I also attempted to use ROM Manager( no clue) and it kept saying that I must have clockwork-recovery installed in order to flash a rom..I choose yes and it say I don't have it..but on my phone it says I have as listed above for the phone and what is on it: CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4. ..is this not what they are asking for..or is it that it is looking for one that is not CWM "based" but the really official ver. of CWM Recovery.
What I am looking for is an explanation of what I can now do with this phone the way it is and also how to load ROMS of different kinds that stay on my phone and how I go back and forth from one to another with ease. Additionally, how to put different themes on the phone and any other tricks that can trick the phone out. My bro and sister all went out and purchased new Galaxy S3 phones..I am keeping mine and want to "trick" it out as much as possible to" one up them"
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks..thanks in adv.!! Smitty
Thanks for the hlp bobbylx and TRusselo
Thanks bobbylx and TRusselo.....wanted folks to know that these bros. helped without hesitation and didn't give me a lot of BS when I had this emergency! I didn't get it fixed yet but they lent a hand and gave me some incentive and FYI..has a noob that means a lot to me! Thanks guys!!!! Smitty!!:victory: almost!!!
Smitty,
I no longer have the captivate so I'm not current on everything that's going on. If you can get into download mode I would find one of the stock roms that can be flashed via Odin and start over.
You'll have better luck post this in the QA section for captivate. Good luck,
Bobby

Boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, then select usb storage, plug in phone, copy files. If that option isn't there, Odin flash back to stock.

[Q] Noobs first steps to N7000

Hi All,
I am thinking of getting one of these to upgrade my ZTE Blade (old, but very faithful). Only being new to the Galaxy Note (N7000) and reading some horrors about it, I am very nervous if I should buy it... I am fine with Android, know my ZTE Blade, HP Touchpad running Android and my MK802-II TV Stick. However this one, not so sure...
1) Is there a App on the PlayStore (pref FREE) that can unlock the N7000, and remain unlocked despite ROM upgrades.
2) Whats all this Yellow Triangle stuff? Is there an App to disable this permanently too...?
3) Is ODIN the only and preferred way to Flash Roms? No Recovery Manager on phone to do it?
4) What steps to follow to Root + Install Recovery + Flash ROMs in light of this eMMC bug. It'll be coming from Stock JB rom.
5) Why are there so many posts about Sim Tray and the N7000, is it faulty??
6) Do I have to keep flashing the right kernel each time I want to flash a new ROM? And to avoid all ICS roms?
7) What NOT to do?? Under all other Androids, I do a factory reset, clearing all data from phone before flashing. Can I not do this now?
8) Any other info I need to know??
Thanks, Lister
As far as I know for your questions:
1) No
2) Yes.. TriangleAway
3) for Stock ROM yes.. but for custom ROM you need custom CWM (recovery manager as you said, or preferably mobile odin)
4) Search N7000 forum for Phils kernel (in original android development section)
5)????
6) If going between custom ROMs-- No ..... but if you went to stock ROM-- Yes
7) this will depend on ROM developer recommendation
8) !!!!???
Hi majdinj,
Thanks for answering my questions, its just that I am hoping to replace my aging old ZTE Blade with this device as I know someone who will be upgrading in a few months time. However having read some forums, it seems it has some issues... and so wanted to clear them up before, in case I end up buying a brick...
What I meant by Q5) was that Ive seen so many posts on this forum, other forums, and doing a N7000 search on Google Images and there are loads of posts/pictures about the SimTray/Slot, and so I wondered if they are a common fault, like break easily....
and, re Q8) I was wondering if there are any Do's and Dont's with this phone, people who are more use to this phone may say "Dont Root it with XYZ as you will end up with a brick" or something like that....
On my ZTE Blade, HP Touchpad and MK802-II, Ive got so use to wiping them, and flashing them... that its hard to actually brick it... Where as I am seeing lots of posts of irreversable hard bricks... and so dont want to end up with a dead device easily... lol
Thank you once again for answering my questions.... If you, or anyone else has any recomendations on what to do with this phone, like cool ROMs, Tweaks and so on.... please fire away!! I am looking to put the P.A.C. Rom on it, as I have it on my ZTE Blade and offers the most features...
thanks, Lister

[Q] Exact Method to Root/Flash Custom Roms to 4.4.2 Verizon S3 i9305

So this might be a noob question, or answered elsewhere in the forum, but I can't find my exact answer or my phone. For the record rooting wasn't this difficult when I had my HTC Incredible before joining the Apple side for almost 2 years. Anyways I tried to root and successfully did so via towelroot, but upon trying to install liquid smooth rom (if there's any other rom's that are good on battery/ram please let me know haha) I got the dreaded take this phone to a Verizon store message. Well I flashed back to stock via Odin, but I still want to root my device in order to install some sort of rom that'll be nicer to my battery and would appreciate any help that can be given! Thanks in advance guys!
Did you manage to flash a recovery?

Help! Can't find proper rom!

Hello. So recently I have installed root on my samsung galaxy s5 mini or SM-G800H. The build number is G800HXXU1BPA1. Now I decided that I want to remove root so I tried to go to SuperSU directly via app and press full unroot. That is when it failed to unroot. From there I knew that I had to reinstall the factory rom for my phone. However me being a complete idiot, I didnt write down the firmware version. So I tried to go full mad and I tried multiple roms but I couldn't find the one right for it. I installed one but the back and the multitask buttons on the side of the screen werent working and also the internet was also failing to work. For the other indian version (Boi), the phone went under a constant boot loop. I am trying to look for the proper firmware. Some places say that the BPA1 is an African model but how can that be if I bought it in India? So to make things short, I need help on what rom to flash. The Indian ones? Or the African ones? I will try the one made for BPA1 or at least they say it is. If it works ill get back to you. If it doesn't, then much help is always appreciated. Thanks guys.
