how to disable lte when screen off - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

xperia z 4.2.2 stock rooted
Is there any means to disable lte automatically when screen off? It seems that no tasker can do the job, right?

Why just no change mobile data type to WCDMA (3G) / GSM (2G)?

the reason is, when I switch on the screen, I may have times to wish to use the browser or to download something, so I will activate the lte manually. But then, as I switch off the screen, probably I would have finished my job, and wish to switch off lte to save power during standby. At the moment, without any tasker as far as I know which can do the job, I will have to remember to switch off the lte every time after switching it on. This is unnecessarily annoying. If there is any automatic means to do this, I can have peace of mind, just screen off and the job will be done.

Try juicedefender

you cant turn off lte and turn it back no when ever screen is off. Your phone will waste more battery by constantly switching to different bands. The best thing to use is the built in battery saver which switches data off and other things that aint required.

the idea is just to turn lte off when the screen goes off, not to turn lte on when the screen is on. This means, I will manually switch lte on if I need it, but do not have to remember to switch it off if it is on. This will not bring an on off issue, as I will not hop in and out of internet very often.

Are you sure Tasker can do this? In my Tasker, the choice of 2G/3G toggle is RED with X, meaning that it is not selectable in my ROM environment.

Tasker can't do this on Stock, I wanted to do this since the day i bought the phone unfortunately it is impossible to do on stock without modifying semcphone.apk.

data off??

anybody know is there a way to have my 3g/H /edge connection disabled when the screen is off like in the wifi sleep policy??
seems a bit of a waste having wifi set to sleep when screen is off if the 3g /edge connection becomes active.

One of the main use of a smartphone is to receive emails and such while the screen is off. So the answer is no, but I guess you can find a 3rd party utility on the market that does it if you really want to.
Wifi takes more power than EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA

If your life /phone usage would be better not receiving emails etc twenty four hours a day then control your phone to your needs the definition of smart is definitely not email day and night .
A Smartuser who does not depend upon receiving emails twits and facebook then use an App like Quick Settings to turn mobile data off when not needed .
You use the phone dont let it use you .

you could add additional "Notify" events for testing, they'll have a timestamp indicating when the even fired.
My Tasks:
Event Display Off
Wait: 10 Seconds (in case it went off for inactivity but I'm still doing stuff)
Mobile Data: Off IF %SCREEN ~ off
Event Display On
Mobile Data: On

[Q] Turn off 3g when screens asleep

When I had my iPhone I downloaded an application that simply turned off the 3g radio when the phone was asleep. It would switch to 2g for standby and when woken again the 3g would activate. This saved a ton of battery for me during standby. Is there such an app like this for Android? Ive done a little searching but can find nothing other then wifi sleep and 3g scheduling. I'm getting great battery life but would like to squeeze a little more out of my Captivate. Any help is appreciated!

Thats would be cool..... I'm sure it could save battery life.
EDIT: Have you tried Juice defender?
EDIT2: Now that I'm thinking about it..... I would like that as it would change not only data but vouce to 2g(GSM) so if I were to get a voice call while in 2g... it would more than likely continue that way once answered... and IMHO the voice quality on 3g is superior.
When I had the app on my iPhone there were several options, you could set a delay for the 3g radio to turn back on, leave it off completely, etc. When I woke the phone, it instantly (since thats the option I chose) kicked back into 3g from 2g. It was very nice. I had 2g sleep state to save battery but still had 3g for data and calls.
Im sure there is nothing out there like this for android but I figured I would at least check here first before I decided it was pointless to look, we do have a great community of people whom are willing to help, you know.

I was reading up about Juicedefender on some site earlier. It said it was only a scheduler to turn the 3g on and off at specific times. From the sounds of it theres a few apps out there that do the same thing, I guess ill have to download it and see for myself.
I think there's an app that does what you are looking for called superpower, try googling that or market search it. Hope it works out for you

Thanks guys, this has what I was looking for. I looked over a thread for this app months ago but didnt do to much more with it. It works well but the 30 second delay to switch to 2g isnt to intriguing. Ill play with it more though, its just what I needed. It sucks when you go to shoot a quick text though and have to wait on the data to reactivate though

[Q] How to set 3G connection to be always on

Hello!
Would like to know how can I set my LG Optimus 4X HD (with app or settings) so it is always on line while on 3G or WiFi even if I lock the phone?
I have unlimited 3G plan so I don't care about data traffic and no mater what I do battery last 1 day, so I don't care about power saving.
Thank you, Denis

Settings - Screen - Set screen timeout to 30 minutes or something, It's not smart to keep 3G - Wifi online, as it will wake your phone from deep sleep and It won't even last 1 day like that.
You gotta find a kernel with no deep sleep support. Also why do you want your 3G to be on while screen is off? Thats nonsene. Most of the apps that use your 3G would keep your phone from locking the screen, so your phone wouldn't enter deepsleep and they could resume downloading. If you wanna save battery by locking the screen, just turn the brightness down.
Try to delete bloatwares, that increased my battery life from 1 day to 2 days, with moderate usage.Try using some different kernels also.
Whats your purpose locking the screen while 3G is on? WiFi hotspot or something?

by default, your 3g should stay on when you turn the screen off/lock it, if they're enabled. you only need to do some things if you DONT want it on when your screen is off.

Background services? Push notifications? It makes much sense (are you sure what you're talking about?). But on the other hand: if there are apps requiring network for such purposes, they usually take care themselves for this requesting corresponding wakelocks from time to time (background services). Just push notifications work differently, but here the core system should take care.

That's plain nonsense. Though they could do so (e.g. requesting a full wakelock), they usually don't. Want an example? Ever heard the chime for a new mail having arrived, as you set your mail client to poll at certain intervals? I've never seen the screen turning on for new mail polls. But admitted, I'm not constantly staring at the screen

You wouldn't receive emails 24/7, turning 3G on once an hour or two is enough to check notifications. You wouldn't notice any notifications until you turn on the screen anyway.

Nope, I just didn't get what he means. He should try to be more specific. His question is short and simple, no one can do anything without knowing what he is trying to do.Theres multiple solutions to a problem mostly and he is just focused on one of them.Keeping screen on 24/7 is not a solution. He should try to use third party apps, some should have options to notify him in some way, It's just nonsense to keep screen on 24/7.

(emphasis mine). He didn't ask for the screen being on, but for the connection. While for 3G, to my knowledge that's the case anyway (as @Flying_Bear already pointed out), this is different for WiFi depending on the settings (WiFi standby policy).

Hello again
Let me explain on example what's that I want from my phone if it's possible.
I use app MightyText or MySMS and while on WiFi it works instantly but if on 3G and phone screen is off for some time, sending SMS start to lag and you need to wait for 10 or 15 minutes for SMS to go through.
Or when I want to install app from my PC over play website its takes also 10 to 15 minutes to start installing app.
While on wifi it takes much less time or start instantly.
Hopefully I explained what I want so you can help me or I expect too much.
Thank you, Denis
While this won't help much: In both cases you mentioned, you are actively performing a task. So you could simply switch on the screen to speed up the action. I've no idea how to do that in a different way automatically, at the moment at least.

Well, good thing you actually tried to help OP with a few words. You could do that before instead of arguing with me.XDA is no such place, if your commenting on some troubleshooting topic, you should focus on OP.Correct anything I write wrong, BUT focus on OP's question first, thats your priority.
@denis1304
You should try JuiceDefender, I know it's actually a battery saver, but I remember it had some options to sync stuff even while screen is locked. You can set how often it syncs, or turns on the Wifi or 3G to perform such tasks.

Why do you want turn off your phone at night anyway? If it's because battery drain, probably turning off and turning on your phone drains more battery than just leaving it on all night, but if you still think that your phone uses too much battery while you are sleeping, just put it in Airplane Mode, it can be done automatically using Tasker or any other similar app.

Sure they COULD... but it would require hardware support to be anything more then basically just turning off the screen and radio connections...
I think the real reason its not there is because why? How many people are actually looking for this? Most will run for a week + if left on airplane mode with the screen off. Who is looking for more then that?
What are we trying to accomplish here?
very old nokia phones could do that
Use Tasker to put the phone into airplane mode? That's about as good as it's gonna get.

[Q] WiFi will not turn off

I have noticed that despite my Wifi sleep policy being set to keep on during sleep only when plugged in my WiFi is on absolutely all the time. I am sure that this is contributing to less than stellar battery life but I cannot for the life of me find an app or adb command that will simply tell me what the hell is keeping my Wifi on. I am rooted but my googling has led nowhere, so now I pose this question to XDA.
How do I figure out what is keeping my WiFi on/in general figure out what is draining my battery during standby?
HELP ME!
Thanks.
P.S. I find it hard to believe that this question has not been asked before, but all of the solutions I have found did not solve the issue for me or just did not work on my Droid turbo for whatever reason, sorry if this sounds stupid.

Go to your app drawer, tap Settings, post that picture. It will be where you can turn on/off Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. We need to be certain that your Wi-Fi is indeed off.

Oh, Okay.
WiFi is on, my question is what keeps it from turning off when I am not using the phone despite the wake policy being set to "keep on only when plugged in"
For whatever it is worth advanced calling is off and network type is set to global.
Huh...
I've been playing with my settings trying to find an answer. I changed my settings to what you have shown in the screenshots. Additionally, I've turned off some others as well, Location in one case. It appears that if Wi-Fi is on, it's always on.
When I'm at home, or when I'm somewhere I trust the Wi-Fi network, I turn it on and leave it on with it set to stay on even while the device is asleep, because it's my understanding that the Wi-Fi radio uses less battery than the cellular radio. I would think that with your settings, once the device goes to sleep, it would disconnect from Wi-Fi and connect to the cell tower, using more battery and your data plan. I have my Wi-Fi set to Always on so that when my device is asleep I still get email, etc., and I can surf or whatnot. When I leave the house, I manually turn Wi-Fi off so that it's not searching for a network, that's gotta be a bit of a battery drain. I'm not a power user and I easily get a solid two full days from my device.
Had the same issue. Not sure of a permanent fix, but cycling airplane mode is a short term fix.
