After several months..have the performance changed? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Of course when the phone is just unboxed its smooth and lag free..but did you notice any lag after using it for several months?
I am planning on buying one..do you advise me to? It is really not cheap actually iPhone 5 here is cheaper now days.
I really like smooth performance and no lagging issues at all and I prefer android but i find iOS much more smooth with less specs..so should I get the Htc One?

In my case it is still extremely fast with no problems.
Have in mind that I'm full stock.

Unlike my wife's SGS4, this is still as fast as day one !
But sometimes when I had a performance issue, it was an application that took a lot of ram ..

If you have to choose again between phones would you still buy the htc one?

Like what apps? What kind of performance issues?

It's as fast as it was on day one (sometimes seems even faster).
I'd definitely choose it again, just click some photos before and see if the blue/purple issue is there or not.

I would possibly take a look at the LG G2, but probably choose the HTC One because it has the best interface I've seen on an Android and is the smoothest phone I've ever tried. It's so reliable and well functioning that it's almost boring, because normally I'm always eager for updates to iron things out, but now everything just works.
Apps that are terribly coded can make it slow, but those apps usually make all phones slow. It's down to the apps, not the phone.

Well, I don't know what are your priorities and what you do want from your phone.
As I don't like the Galaxies and the design of Samsung that would still make me get the One.
I love it as a device. It's beautiful.
Moreover, I'm not in the mood for rooting etc (I believe I would only do it if the One stops to be supported) so again for me Sense has the best out-of-box Android experience right now. It's smooth and fast, Touchwiz cannot even compare to it.
I've never encountered any problems, I rarely restart it and I haven't seen get slowed down.
Of course, new devices did come out recently.. I don't know much about new LGs or Sonys etc, but 2-3 months ago when I got it it was absolutely the best Android device at its category.
The negatives are that in some cases build quality is not the best (but that's a matter of chance and I'm not sure if it is more often in the Ones) and the fact that there are some problems with low-light photos for some users where there is a purple tint.
However, I must say that the camera is very good except for this problem.

There has been no change in performance since day one. Had it since launch. Unrooted, Stock (T-Mobile), best phone I've ever owned. And I've owned many.

With Viper ROM this phone is even faster and absolutely zero lag ever, flawless.

No device is perfect!

Ok, so how come everytime we get a new device we complain about everything. Screen, battery, gps, and everything else! It's getting old. No device is going to be perfect! Come on we have a kick ass device! The Galaxy S2 is awesome. Tired of all the bashing and complaining going on in the forums. can't we just enjoy our awesome device and the awesome Roms and support the devs give us? Nope because we are spoiled!

I love this phone. Its the best I have ever had and I have had a g1, sgs4g, g2, g2x, sensation, amaze, and a couple sprint androids. The roms a very good and the devs are as well. There does seem to be a lot of childish bickering here that needs to stop, but I think the phone is an ass kicking device.

Only if you're lucky enough to have non-problem screen then the rest is perfect.

True but the screen problem is unforgivable. If I can get it fixed then I can overlook all the other problems this phone has.
if the iphone 4s had a bigger screen lets say 4" atleast, it would be the perfect device lol
if the galaxy s 2 had a better screen with no lines or blobs and we got updates fast, like lets say ICS!! it would be the perfect device..
if googled made it a requirement to update your device to the new OS, things would be soo different..
if it only it was like the iphone lol
After all the bugs and issues on my G2x, the SII is a pleasure to own.

+1 dude I love this device the screen problem is no biggie I don't Read in the dark with the lowest setting possible and even still dont realky see it. But like op said every device isnt perfect and i had just about every device. This gs2 is by far the sweetest phone i owned to date i still think my next device will prolly be a nexus device or the s3 if its sick enough. But yea man i love my phone its super fast and reliable. It was also the first device where i thought the stock rom was half decent. I am definitely enjoying this device and will for a good while with or without ics. Even tho that would be a sweet addition to our roms

With out a doubt the Samsung Galaxy S II is the #1 phone in the world for 2011-current. Some other phones have other features or other small features that make them better in some aspects, such as the Galaxy Nexus screen. Other wise the SGSII is uncontested in every aspect and in sales.
CONS: Now, not by choice I own the T-Mobile SGSII which is another story all together. Yes, T-Mobile and Samsung changed a few features on this device to make it unique to T-Mobile. Whether good or bad it is very clear that the SGSII for TMO has a decrease in screen resolution, CPU and GPU Graphics performance. Other people have complained about lines and blobs on there screen, which I am fortunately enough not to experience on my device. But the worse part of the TMO version is the design......because Apple had to be a B*%^& and sue Samsung over this device we lost the three main button/keys from the original UK version. I like real buttons and would have loved to have a real home button and a back and menu button, ps who actually uses the search button?...worthless! The only other thing I would change would have been to have waited for the white one to come out before buying.
PROS: Personally I don't see much of a decrease in the screen resolution at all, I LOVE IT, and love the size to! The speed of the phone when at its best is amazing (have yet to root my phone and over clock it so I expect to to be even better soon when I do). Until we get ICS I am very content with the Go Launcher ICS theme which is easy to customize.
Over all even with my small simple complaints this is by far the best phone I have even own and still think no other phone on the market competes.

The iphone would still have a horribly bland and boring os and would still have a horrid build quality (shattering from a 1 foot drop)

Yes, I first noticed it on an HD video I was watching and I thought it was something wrong with the video itself. In fact, I would not even know about xda if it weren't for the screen issue (so it's the other way around).

I still haven't seen the difference myself, better yet I would rather not see it because I would just be upset about it, right? But its not something that makes me happy when I hear that Samsung and TMO made it slower and less screen quality.

Skyrocket has the same issue as well
I thought that the skyrocket and our phone were the exact same device. Wasn't it just discovered that ours supports LTE as well? Whats the differences?
The difference is the processor (Qualcomm vs. Exynos), and the screen itself (4.5" vs. 4.3"). Sadly, our 4.5" screen is the one with the blobs/lines.
This really isn't the carrier's fault, but if they are refusing you a refund/exchange then it is.
huh, so are the blobs/lines caused by something or over time? Or do some devices just have them?

[Q] Why are all the Optimus 2x so cheap??

I just recently broke my old android and was looking to upgrade. The 2x stuck out because of the price/specs to me. Why is a phone thats compared in reviews to the galaxy sII which costs used around 450/500 (canadian$) so cheap? I can find a perfect condition 2x for around $200???? Is there something wrong with these phones? I can imagine when a good build of ICS comes out that these phones will fly...... so I guess my question is, howcome?
De O2x is a good phone the price is really worth it, you won't be missing much. The only thing I can think of that makes it cheap is because LG don't spend much on marketing and support.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
LG and Nvidia dont care for their consumers enough. The phone had lots of problems in the first few months and that made many people sell it/return it. Its true the price is incredibly low now and if the price difference is so big, then you should go for the Optimus 2x. Also we don't really know when ICS will come for our device. LG said Q3.. this could mean december( I personally bet on that ). Nvidia could help developers by releasing some code, but they won't so screw them
Can you believe they only just released gingerbread for Optimus 3d? Lol I was about to get rid of my o2x but then there ain't much other phones are offering that I'm missing out on and selling wud make me lose. If there wasn't so much support on here I'd sold it for anything lol

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering if I was awaiting a nasty surprise when i buy for for $200, but it doesnt really seem like it. I guess the phone at least keeps up with other phones that have just come out. Is there a rom that is heavily favoured on the o2x forums - in regards to free ram/speed/not a lot of junk installed?
CyanogenMod KANG of course, along with a custom kernel it works perfectly. Look at my signature for the links...

Thanks for all the help. Still a little skeptical .... but only because its so cheap im going to go ahead and buy it. One more question, what is the difference between all these kernals? I assume I flash the rom, then flash one of the following kernals:
Normal version
32M ramhack shared
32M ramhack
64M ramhack
First of all vadonka explained everything in his thread so you could've found out if you read it, yet maybe you didn't understand it so I'll explain it
Base version: no extra ram memory, everything works like how it's supposed to be. This one I recommend if you just want a stable phone with everything working.
32MB shared version: AFAIK, this version has 32MB extra ram memory because it shares this extra 32MB with the GPU (correct me if I'm wrong guys ) this isn't really important anyway, all you have to know that this version used to be a little buggy, so if you want a stable phone I won't recommend this one.
32MB Ramhack version: this version also gives you 32MB extra ram memory, but this isn't shared with the GPU. Therefore this version is also really stable and I'm using it too. However, only reboot doesn't work with this version because of the ramhack from the GPU.
64MB Ramhack version: this version gives you 64MB extra ram memory. This one is also very stable I think and because of the bigger ramhack compared to the previous version more things don't work. The things that won't work with this version is reboot and 1080p (and maybe 720p) video recording.
For more information go to the original thread (link in signature)
I didnt really understand it in the thread, thanks for taking the time. I just went out and bought the phone, I got it for $200 canadian (Still cant believe its this cheap).
make sure first the phone doesnt have faulty hardware that causes annoying random reboots. sometimes hidden faults are the reasons why phones are sold cheap. learned this the hard way.

Is there anyway to tell if I have a device thats faulty?
what i'd do is leave it charging over night with an alarm set for morning. i remembr lots of people having problems with these actions. basically theres no real way of finding this fault. I for one never had it good luck

Nothing is wrong but when the phone started to be sold the software was sad. This now it´s the past. The 2X works fine and it´s powerfull. And the G2? You have to remember it´s a newest phone and with the first android company on back.

I also just recently bought the phone. From what I've ready LG has bad stock software and sub-par support. So I'd say they sell the phones cheap because they don't have a large development team. But we have Cyanogen, so it's a fair compromise for me

The O2X is a capable phone. I have been using it for 4 months with no major issues other than reboots mentioned above. Temasek's CM7 KANG is well recommended. I'm happy with the performance and stability. The only gripe is the fact that the camera software with CM7 is not on par with the stock software regarding video recording in low light. The frame rate drops considerably. If the camera software was changed to fix this issue then I'd be 100% happy with the phone.

i agree. but i really do not understand why is the CM7 camera so much worse than stock LG (im actually amazed that lg did something better than cm ) the video is completely unusable and lg's camera has better brightness. also if you move just a LITTLE bit with CM7 camera you will get blurred out images, whereas on Lg's acmera i could move quite a lot and get much better results (anti shake was off cuz it made the pic taking slower for me)

I assume you're talking about how CM7's camera handles auto exposure. The overall quality however is admittedly worse due to lack of drivers source.

[Q] Time to upgrade........

OK, its time to upgrade my trusty DHD.....
...but what gets my hard-earned (no, really) pennies?
To me there are 4 options........
1) HTC One X
2) Samsung Galaxy Note
3) Wait until the 30th and get the Samsung Galaxy SIII
4) Keep the DHD for another 12 months and benefit from a cheaper contract.
So, if it was your pennies getting spent, where would they be going?
I'm looking for views from existing SGN users here. Do you love the Note? Hate it? What do you like most about it, and what drives you potty?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I love my note. It's definitely my favorite phone out of the 8 smartphones I've owned (iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, HTC Sensation, Samsung Vibrant, LG G2X). The downside? It is the most disappointing phone development wise. There doesn't seem to be any good ROM out there. Stock is painfully slow. There is no CM7 which is really disappointing. Any of the ICS I've seen out has had major problems which is why I haven't upgraded yet. There are horror stories about people bring their phones when upgrading to ICS and so far it doesn't seem to be a small number of people which is really sad. Samsung is JUST rolling out ICS now but I've heard stock ICS is also very slow and if you have CWM on or from what I understand have rooted your phone at all, you run a huge risk of bricking if you try put ICS on.
TL DR; If you don't mind staying stock for a WHILE, get the Note because it's awesome having a huge screen, resolution, and the SPen.

To the OP: If I were you, I would get the One X or the S3, depending on the needs. Like I need the sd card and removable battery so it would rather be the S3 for me. Assuming you haven't used the note for long, both these phones must feel great to you. For almost all of us here, they are just too darn small. Once you use a note, you just get addicted to it.

Thanks guys. Keep them coming.
I played with the Note and the HOX today and liked them both, but the huge Note battery is drawing me towards it.
I'm 6'1" and have hands like pan-shovels so the size of the Note isnt a -ve to me.
love mine too!
Yeah loving the bigger screen. I'd never go back to something smaller.
On a different note.. (haha) had mine a month and have rooted and switched the rom and Kernel.. wasn't very hard just had to get over the mind set of bricking it.
Buy one!
Note, large screen, s-pen apps (if you're inclined to use them), some good roms, ICS development with the new builds should be on their way soon
the rest? S3, rather than 1x. or at least wait till reviews come out comparing the 2.
wait
wait for Galaxy S3 - I allready have it and It's awsome!!!

The Note is fabulous - better than the GNex I came from. Why? The screen principally - the Galaxy nexus screen just seemed so small compared!
I think the answer is this:
1. If you want the latest tech - go for the One X or the S3.
2. However, as it's so early in their life cycle you don't know what problems they will have (other than we already know the OneX has cr*p battery life) and we all know that no phone is perfect. Each phone I've had (and I've had a few) has had it's own unique issue.
3. If screen size is important, forget the other two and go for the Note. There is just simply no question of that (until Note II is announced in future!)
Maybe quad core will be a bit faster than dual core but I doubt it will make much of a difference in everyday use. In any event, I hate TW / Sense etc so always remove that bloatware and, hey presto, android flies on the Note (not that it was sluggish with TW).
And the lack of reliable ICS at the moment? In the words of Catherine Tate (look her up if you're not British!) - am I bovvered? There's such a clamour for it and, yes, it's a bit prettier and more logical in places but GB is absolutely fine for 99.98%.
Just my £0.02. Good luck with the decision.
Edit: Just seen that you're a brit - no need to look up Catherine Tate! More importantly, just realised you've got a DHD. Move on, you won't be disappointed. Sure, tech will move on over the next few monts, years etc but it always does.

Thanks for that. I agree with your assessment, especially ICS which is definitely leaving me underwhelmed in terms of how "un-different" (new word!) it is to GB, especially after having used Honeycomb on my tablet for the past 6 months.
I've decided (with a feeling of I'm cheating on a loved one) to get a Note online, then I can return it under distance selling laws if I find it unbearable to live with. I suspect it wont be going back.
Genuinely, many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Your insight has been much appreciated.

I love the large screen and battery of the Note.
The S3 is more future proof, but only because of the processors. RAM is the same.
One thing in the s3's favor is the LED notification light! w00t! I have been missing this on EVERY device that wasn't a blackberry!
The s3 also has a large battery, but .. the Note takes the cake.
The One X is out of the picture. Why? Removable battery. Also, they pushed the device so fast to get it out on the market as one of the first quadcore devices that ... well, to me it doesn't seem that attractive. The s3 on the other hand looks mighty fine!
The Note is awesome for its screen and battery size (as well as the S-Pen).
It's really your call... Sometimes I wish my note were a tiny bit smaller, but I don't regret it when I'm actually using it! hehe.
I upgraded from DHD to galaxy note and can say it was the upgrade. Absolutely amazing display over DHD, much better battery life, faster, smoother, much better camera, etc. When I look back now to already my wife's DHD, it seems to be a nice small phone ... Was able to replace most of work on my laptop with note thanks to Swype ...
I have both on stock ROM, didn't find need to go for ICS on my note. Everything is working flawlessly, maybe will change my mind half year later when there will be more positive reaction from community ... my few cents .

One thing that's driving me mad is the sluggishness of the stock Gingerbread ROM. Is the official ICS ROM still sluggish?
If so, would rooting the phone and deleting some of the bloat help? Also, is it possible to remove Touchwiz from the official ROM? I'm a bit scared to try any other ROMs in case I brick my phone.
I've had my note since november and I love it!! The huge screen is so much fun and great to surf the web!!! It doesn't feel bigger in my pocket than my previous phone (iPhone). Even though it has a huge screen the battery life is really good (especially with my actual rom Criskelo)
I haven't tried the other phones you posted but I am still trying to understand why anyone would need a quadcore in his phone today!! I installed spy cpu on my SGN and my CPU almost never rises to 1400MHz so what could anyone do with the extra power maybe 3D games since I don't play any so can't tell about the performances but I doubt it since the note still has one of the best processors out there! The games I play are: solitaire, temple run, fruit ninja,...

I don't really notice the sluggishness, everything seems smooth!! The rom I am using is lighter than the stock rom so there may be a difference! If you wan't to remove Touchwiz you'd better install a new rom on your phone would be easier than to modify the stock rom! In either case you need to root your phone! At first didn't want to do it but in the end I am happy and giving some good feedback about the rom I am using! And the bricking is pretty rare!!
To install a new rom if you literally follow instructions you can't run into problems!! A bit of research and in the end it just takes 10/15min to change rom!

That's an easy one. Root and install one of the stock rooted GB Roms. No need to 'remove' TW. Just install another launcher (let's not start the 'which launcher is best' argument here) and then set that as default. TW will fade into the background and won't be used and your Note will be faster.

Only 2100mah I think? Not that big - nearly 20% smaller than the Note.

Planning to buy this phone, any advice?

Hi all,
I just sold my LG optimus 3d P920 and looking to buy my next smart phone. After a while this one seems to be a good choice with nice performance/price where I live. But still, I have some questions:
_ Given the bad reputation of LG for late (or sometimes, even no) software update, is this phone any different? What are the current android versions this device can run? Are most people happy or disappointed?
_ How is the community's support for the 4x HD? Are there many custom ROMs? Are rooting/ installing roms/ reverting back to stock roms easy? Are there good CyanogenMod ROMs/MIUI ROMs or other AOSP ROMs for this device?
_ How is the overall user experience towards this phone? Is it worthy to buy? Is it good to use casually in real life?
I've read some reviews about this phone but those asked above are real life experience related, so I have to ask you guys here. Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
advice is don't buy this one, some of us still can not unlock bootloader which means you don't have tons of custom roms, for now.
and the memory is small, most big games running lag like ****.
i don't play games with my phone so i don't really care about this.

Well game lags have nothing to do with the amount of memory...its the kernel. With this said...the JB update via OTA will unlock the bootloader and with this custom Rom and kernels will come and the performance issues will be dealt with...this is the only problem with this phone...everything else is butter smooth...the screen is amazing ...the design and form factor are both great. Overall its a great phone with still untapped potential. Just wait till LG decided to effin update it, and the beast will be awoken.
Custom Roms and developer support will come with the official update...so it's just a matter of time. CyanogenMod as far as I know have been talked about ...but not until the phone is fully unlocked.
Rooting is available on ICS via the standard means but on the leaked JB beta but it's a bit dodgy.
So yeah great hardware, scrappy software support, but as soon as its updated and unlocked, I bet it's gonna be a beast of a phone.

I would say dont buy it. But it depends on the money you want to spend.

Welcome to our forum .
I was an Optimus 3D user too .
About root and recovery we have both of them . And about Dev's they are little at the moment but we have dexter someone like xbsall or maybe better he can port recoveries , kernels , ROMs .
The bootloaders WAS locked but now with JB it's unlocked .
This device is new compared with P920 so little devs here until now .
For me I see it exellent and the best for its price .

My O4X have a lot dust under the screen The bootloader will be unlocked with the JB upgrade, so new roms are coming. The performance of the HW is good for every day tasks, I do not use it for games.
For a branded, advanced hardware and cheap device go for it.Just an heads up the camera has autofocus issues but works perfectly with other camera apps. Rest it is par with other action packed devices. But development of this phone is still in its toddler stage. So if you dare to wait like us then
Like people say: best screen, speed and hardware specs/battery for the price.
Only problem is lack of custom bootloader.. which isn't much of a problem for most users anyway. Camera isn't extremely good. But if you download another camera-app, that's easily fixed, so...
Another thing - you kind of don't actually want a phone to get updates every week. Lots of people on the internet make a huge buzz about how that is fantastic. But it's usually just proof that the entire program package is full of huge bloatware and bugs that need to be sorted out..
Just bought the phone, thanks a lot guys! Now to root and install recovery
If you want to play games, which is the main thing in buying a tegra 3 phone, you will get disappointed. Even temple run Oz lags on max graphs...

I owned this fone, and can share some of my experience with gaming on it. All of the gameploft games lag, som more some less, but you will find gems like batman, spiderman, Modern combat 3,4 lagy and unplayeble. I know that it's due to bad optimization from gameloft, but thats how it is. NFS most wanted is unplayeble, you can also see from the video above that it's running like 15-20 fps- it look smooth but its slow, just look at the time count how much one second takes. Asphalt 7 used to lag but with new update its fine. I used to play a lot of real racing 2 which playes buttery smooth, but real racing 3 lags badly. There is a workaround for real racing 3 to set low graphics and play smoothly.
Games developed for tegra plays fine with some added effects, but still on other devices you can add those ass well. All the other games are running fine, like those 2d and not so demandign 3d titles.
But sill for the price you'll get a great device witha perfect display, with removable battery and an sd card slot wthich a lot of devices from this category lack..But if you want to play demanding 3d games, especialy from gameploft, pay a few more bucks and get something else like s3 or nexus 4.
i have it for 270€ only... i replaced my Xperia S iwth this, because i think - tegra 3, great, gaming phone ... so another mistake...

Well some people have RIL problems, some people have GPS problems and its signal being reduced if headphones are plugged in. It's not a bad phone but some people have issues. As for roms you have some good cm based roms (and a very good official CM11) and we already have lollipop working good.
If I were you I'd choose a more recent phone like the Moto G or even a Nexus 5, unless you have a really really good deal.

Oh, there's a ton of ROMs (mostly KitKat at the time of writing, though more Lollipop ROMs are in the making).
It really depends on how willing you are to mod it and how much it costs by now. I would advice against buying it if you don't wanna mod it, there are phones with the same specs which are running stock L. Really, by now it depends on how much it costs. I wouldn't pay the €270 I paid for it now, I'm pretty sure there are better devices by now in that price range.

with the right custom rom and the right twiking this phone runs great, but..............................................
its all about the price, if you can get it for 100$ go ahead
if its more then this go for the one plus one, its only 300$ and it's absolutely a monster.

[Q] Should I get this phone as an upgrade?

Sorry if threads like this are not allowed or if I'm posting in the wrong section...
I need some opinions here. I am coming from a Galaxy Wonder and I would like an upgrade. Have currently earmarked this device on top of my wishlist. I would like to know if this phone's tech is able to last around 2-3 years.
I'm particularly concerned about the 1 GB RAM this phone has. Is 1 GB enough?
Thanks in advance guys.

1GB is more than enough in most phones, I've never had RAM management problems with this one.
However, my answer is a big NO.
Let me elaborate;
>Battery life
With proper greenifying, wakelock detecting, and no more than 2% per 12h of battery discharge, it has a decent battery life, but it seems the screen and the tegra 3 chip draw a lot of power from it. An extended battery does fix that though, but don't expect more than 3h of screentime on a normal usage day and 60-70% brightness, on a normal battery.
>Stock ROM
Looks great, feels great, kernel is easily updated (if you got the bootloader unlocked, flash another one), and then works great too. This phone, in my opinion is meant to be the LG Optimus G's younger brother. I've tried a lot of custom roms, but stock is the one that takes it away from me, after properly kdz flashed (without the bloat apps and stuff).
>Heating issues
10 mins of playing, well, pretty much anything that's 3D makes the phone really hot, no thermal throttling though, but don't expect this phone to last if you play an hour of gaming or more. Even Subway Surf kills the battery.
>Tegra 3 incompatibility/unoptimized apps
Most games are made with Adreno in mind, needless to say, Adreno is not better than the T3, just has more optimizations done for it. Also some apps aren't available via the Play Store on this phone, but that can vary depending on your region.
In my opinion, I'd always go with an SGS3, even with stock touch wiz and bloat, because
a) it gets proper software updates, unlike LG and all of their devices, not just the 4X HD.
b) better modding support/community
c) apparently heats up a lot less and lasts a lot more, that also means given its support there's bound to be more extended batteries, cases, stands, cradles, docks, and equipment for it.
The only thing the 4X HD has going for it is the price, I've paid 180e for it, and it was a huge step up from an even worse phone than yours (Samsung Galaxy Mini, s5570), but so far, I'm not a happy camper.
And the screen has a dead pixel on it, which irks me a lot.
Oh and apparently someone took the KDZ repository on that one site down. Dunno what the deal with that is too.

i would buy it, since it has good specs, and with custom roms you will have support for quite some time in future, i hope
1 GB of ram for me is enough, i don't play games on it, and after greenify hibernates apps, i got around 400 - 450 mb free, rom is latest vanir rom 4.3.1. dated 26.10.2013., and i am also using killjoy script
phone works really good, only little problem is with baseband_xmm_power wakelock, but devs are working on that and slow but surely this problem is getting reduced
camera is good for taking pictures, at least for me
i would only like that lock key is on the right side, current position is little awkward, but you get used to it
that's it from me
Thanks for the replies guys.
Hmm.... really now debating which to get 4X HD or S3 really a tough decision. I would want the 4X HD as I'm just a little bored of Samsung, but the S3 looks like will get better dev support. Its hard.

Would love to have one, but they're pretty expensive for me.
After some 'extensive' research, I have finally found the Xperia ZR. Maybe I might get it once the price drops (next year perhaps). Had earlier found the Optimus G to my liking, but I just dislike the glass back and front . Well, both have CM support which is a good thing for me

Do not buy this phone. I repeat DO NOT!
Battery life sucks, and it gets hot. It is a fricking smart frying pan. Seriously you can cook an egg on it. And it lags oh boy it lags like hell.
A good phone shouldn't need this much optimization to work better. I tried every CM, kernel etc but either you get good battery life and ****ty gaming performance or you get good performance and horrible battery life (like 2-3 hours max).
Get Optimus G or S3 but don't get this.

If you can get it for a good price and are willing to root and customize it, it's probably the best bang for a buck you can get at the moment.
The IPS screen is simply gorgeous. It's even more pleasing to the eye than my HTC One LCD screen if you ask me my honest opinion. Yes, it tends to drain the battery heavily, but with the right configuration you can get over 3 and even 4 hours of screen time easily. Oh, and I can't seem to get any scratches on it. Impressive since I don't use a case or any kind of screen protection and carry it around in my pocket all day. Only downside: fingerprints!
I like it's design and build quality. Even though it's all plastic, it neither feels nor looks (too) cheap. More important: all the buttons are in the right place for me. The ridged back provides some extra grip and looks quite OK (from a distance ) and so does the fake metal finish on the sides. It has to be the best fake metal in the business because it's still intact after dropping on my bathroom floor twice.
My biggest issue with this phone (besides being ignored by LG) has to be the sound quality. The silly speaker on the back is nearly useless when the phone is laying down. Picking it up doesn't improve anything.
I can't really comment on this phone's gaming capabilities. I don't really use my phone for that, sorry.
The only alternative I would consider in your position would be the Nexus 4. You should be able to pick it up for a fair price once Google releases the Nexus 5.

The main reason I went for this device was due to price. If price wouldn't matter, then the Galaxy S3 is a better device IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my device, but since I am using custom ROM's to have JB 4.2.2 there are some things you need to accept if you use custom ROM's (LG has not had the decency to release a JB 4.2.2 ROM
1- Camera: 3rd party cameras using flash and auto focus have issues on custom ROM's not based on stock.
2- BT can be temperamental if you are on custom ROM's
3- The f****** wakelocks that just came out of nowhere on my device are driving me nuts and killing my battery
4- Gaming is a mixed bag depending on the game.
5- External storage can be problematic if for example you are on a custom ROM and try to sync 2000+ songs (17GB's) with Media Monkey.
6- Audio: This really pisses me off... I listen A LOT to music on my devices, and I use different types of good headphones like AKG 450's or some Senheissers PX-200's and the audio chipset on this thing is pathetic, read the review about it on PhonesArena. Even more frustrating is the fact that with the AKG 450's, every time I connect the headphones, the line gets a permanent noise that was not there before. I tested the headphones extensively to make sure they were no broken, and they are fine on all other type of devices except my P880.
On a positive side, it is smooth on most of the ROM's I tried, I like how it looks, it's quite sturdy, GPS works like a charm (after a few tweaks of course); the speaker is ok, the camera when it works is ok; the community is good; the specs are good; All the good ROM's and stuff is relatively recent since it took a while for the bootloader to unlocked and not that many devs were on board. It looks way better than the SGS3 which BTW also have a TON of issues, which is why I went for the P880. Overall, the issues I listed will be sorted by the great devs that have this device, but LG is not doing itself any favours by not releasing updates more often.
So, yes, I do love it, but I will definitely update in less than 2 years to another device. No more LG for me, thank you very much until they learn to support their devices or I would just get a Nexus device.

No more LG for me, thank you very much until they learn to support their devices or I would just get a Nexus device.

lol this is disaster mine is just fine. the real disadvantage of this phone is only the low bitrate and framerate of the camera , but thats just how the lg made it. we cant change the hardware. besides that my phone works fine
So you are saying that:
- 3rd party cameras with autofocus and flash are working fine using a custom ROM as in CM based ROM? Which one please? so I can try it.
- No wakelocks at all? What kernel are you using and how do you use your phone? Gaming?, Internet (WIFI/3G) on all the time? FB/Tweeter/G+ on with auto updates all the time?
- Connecting to a car's BT to stream music works ALL the time?
- You can syncronize more than 10GB's in one go to the external microSD with no issues ALL the time?
You must be using either a stock ROM or one based on a stock ROM.
I also am thinking about buying this phone...
I own a Desire HD and i think that it would be a huge upgrade anyways.
The battery is not a problem i think:
1)U can root and install custom roms and it would be better as almost every phone
2)It's removable so you can always get a extended one
What i would like to ask you and have your opinion guys is it would be a bit wiser to get the L9 II instead of this one
