Well, I've been trying to use some custom roms and after all I restored the backup I made before, everything fine.
Today I wanted to try to use a custom rom again but it wouldn't work so I decided to wait for the official ICS release for the IncS. And here we get to my problem: When I restore the backup, and manually flash the boot.img (have to do this manually, got S-ON) and I boot my phone it gets to the HTC bootscreen, reboots and automatically gets to the CWM recovery.
Can anyone provide me an original boot.img (I haven't found it yet) or the whole standard android rom? If you have another solution, I would like to hear it!

You can find the latest OTA in the Android Dev section. If you would use the search function ( yeah we really have a "search" function.. ) you would easily find it. If you want your boot.img we do need what for a Rom from which carrier you got.

Actually I DID use the search, but I haven't found any stock roms for the IncS.. I would like a boot.img for T-Mobile carrier (that's what a 'carrier' is right?).

I have just been reviewing your posts and you posted that you applied the OTA and received HBOOT 2.01.0001, correct?
Then the RUU/ROM you need is the 3.11.405.2 version.
You also stated that you were able to unlock HBOOT 2.01.0001 using the HTCDEV.com site, correct? Which custom recovery did you install after that?

That's all correct, I installed the CWM recovery after that, not sure which version, the most recent one if I'm sure. I notice that the RUU/ROMS are .exe, do I flash these the same way as a .zip rom?

No, you run the exe on a PC and follow the directions on the screens. The program will tell you when to connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable.
This will completely wipe your phone and reload the ROM. Your HBOOT screen will probably show RELOCKED and you will need to unlock it again. Please confirm.

You can sync your contacts to your Google/Gmail account or save them to your SD cards. You can use Titanium Backup to backup apps and some settings.
Well this sucks: The ROM Updatestff can't update the Android hpone. Get the right ROM Update program and try again.
Were you sure that this is the right one? ;p

This is the only one that has HBOOT 2.01.0001. You will also need to relock your HBOOT before you run the RUU using the command:
fastboot oem lock

i got the updated by restoring a STOCK backup (no root) form CWM, then flash stock RECOVERY and then update the OTA, so relocking bootloader IS NOT NEEDED, the only thing is have all STOCK and NO ROOT
You asked about running ruu in your original post. To do that you do in fact need to relock the bootloader. Just saying.

Your phone does not have to be rooted (installed supersu.apk , superuser.apk ... ) to flash a cutom rom.
If you want to unroot any custom rom, you simply have to remove the superuser.apk / supersu.apk. And you normally wont have any problem

Many thanks - I want to be able to view work emails on my device, and a new policy prevents access if root is detected.
I'm familiar with flashing Samsung and Nexus devices, but HTC is new to me.
If I understand correctly, I just need to:
- Unlock device via htcdev.com
- Copy custom rom to internal storage
- Backup internal storage
- Boot to recovery (do I need to flash a custom recovery?)
- Install custom rom
Is that correct?
You will need a custom recovery, yes. Why don't you want root access?

unlocking bootloader erases everything. Before you unlock the bootloader disable fastboot andenable usb debugging
Yes you need to flash a custom recovery. I did it after unlocking bootloader with cmd ("adb flash recovery recovery.img")

I'm enjoying our start to the season while it lasts!
Anyway, back on topic, I'm actually really enjoying the stock Sense rom (pretty amazing experience comared to Touchwiz on Sammy devices), so I think I'll try a 4.3 Sense based rom. Do you have any recommendations? Ideally as close to stock with as few mods as possible.
I'm looking at a few of the available roms now, but none of them really stand out as the one to go for.
Finally - when I unlock my bootloader, the device will be wiped - so how much (if any?) of my set up and data will be saved / restored via HTC backup when I install a 4.3 sense based rom?
I actually love Sense 5 but today I've put the latest GPe build on my phone (100% stock as I have no need to root). I had a Nexus 4 before so it's nice to see a full HD stock Android build that all works as it should
Once HTC release the official 4.3 Sense update I'll go back to stock again

in my case it did not restore anything by HTC backup. I do not use it. I am setting up everything by myself when i install a new rom. (of course not contacts, etc, this is restored by my google account)

No possible. Unless you are S-Off, which is unlikely. You need root to install custom roms with S-Off (most likely your case).
After you install custom roms you may not like it and want to go back to stock so you can get normal upgrades to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Then you need to
relock your bootloader and flash a RUU.zip which is the stock 4.1.2.

Oops. Typo. Let me restate it. You need root if you are S-On. You don't need root if you are S-Off.
Hello, I have HTC One Intl (see my signature) on everything stock. Phone is S-off and rooted. Yesterday I had seen 4.3 OTA notification, downloaded it and tried to install, but installation failed in recovery (red triangle with exclamation). I've tried it several times, but no luck - phone reboots to recovery, installation process begins and fails at ~30 per cent.
Help me find out, why it happens (maybe i can find installation log somewhere, but don't know where to search) and how to install this update.
You need:
- Stock Recovery
- Stock rom without root
- Locked/Relocked bootloader
After your phone can install the OTA.

Can I use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to temporary unroot? At least it gives such possibility, don't know will it work or not.
Is locked/relocked bootloader obligatory? if yes, I will search how to relock it again.
Thanks.

He does need to have stock recovery, stock rom (including the preloaded apps that get deleted when unlocking), I think that's about it.

If you signature is correct: "ROM: Stock 2.24.401.8 (Android 4.2.2)" Maybe just best to use the Guru Reset ROM.

BTW: the reason I mentioned the backup to PC, is one time I flashed stock recovery (and accessed it), and i was unpleasantly surprised it wiped my internal storage.

Good luck, and if you do (and wanna help the rest of the community) can you try with both ROOT and unlocked bootloader first, and see if it works.
I know it's a bit of a hassle but at least you would be able to confirm if ROOT or unlocked bootloader are interfering with the update

probably, you must be 100% stock rom and stock recovery to get OTA's, if you have relocked your bootloader then you will have to unlock your bootloader again so you can flash the stock recovery.
stock recovery is here, as long as your OTA is 7.19.401.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59082816&postcount=2
