Hey everyone,
I've been searching on here and somehow I'm not finding ANY helpful info on how to unlock a G1 to work on AT&T. I want to buy one of craigslist and it seems most people aren't able to get customer service to unlock it for me.
Is there any way to unlock it, even if i need to flash the ADP1 firmware or something?
I really thought there would be a sticky for this, but so far all I've found is paid services.
I can borrow a friend's T-Mobile sim if i need one temporarily to access anything for the unlocking.
Thanks!
-Taylor
P.S. I'm hoping to buy one today, so the sooner someone answers my question the sooner i can get in on this new android love!
I believe as of now you have only one choice - buy unlock code on eBay or some other online shops.
get the phone and have a friend that has t-mo say that they are going out of the country and they need the unlock code for their phone. t-mo will ask for the IMEI and you give them that and they will email you an unlock code. but i am pretty sure that you will be stuck with edge network on at&t. not that i have any choice as t-mo STILL doesn't have 3G in stl
Hey, thanks for the help. I only have one friend with Tmobile and she probably could have helped me, but i was hoping there was a more guaranteed way, in case that didn't work. So flashing the ADP1 firmware and bootloader doesn't do it? I assume that the right people have looked at this and all that?
Well it would be cool if we could crack that, but lucky for me i finally found someone with an unlocked g1 at a great price - $250 for a barely used one with accessories and box, still with the original plastic on the screen, it's basically brand new! I was going to buy one that had been used for a few months, just had a charger, and was locked for the same price! I actually thought it might have been stolen till i met the kid, he was driving a brand new car and only looked to be about 18, so basically he was just rich and didn't care too much if he got the most he could get, heh.
So yeah, I have a G1 now and it's unlocked and works great. I of course don't get 3G on ATT but i had an old iphone before that didn't have 3G, so i'm at least not worse of. And somehow the G1 downloads pages much faster than the 2G iphone, interestingly enough, so I'm pretty happy.
Thanks for your help guys. is there a way we could maybe sticky this or something, maybe make a new post that is the official sim unlock thread and sticky that? I never found a place that specifically said you couldn't unlock it, except for a few posts from before the phone was even out with people speculating, so it was pretty tough for me to find out. Sure, i didn't find anything that said you COULD unlock it easily, but i didn't find a lot the other way either and i wasn't sure if I was just missing something.
Thanks,
-Taylor
I used this one to unlock my g1
http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/
within 20 min, I received my unlock codes. And it really worked
as t-mobile asked me 125 Euros for unlocking (the Netherlands)
I know this is my first post and all, but I did look around extensively. No info really on the 810's Wiki either. I was given this phone from my brother. IMEI checks out fine. Locked to T-Mobile. I called support to see if I could get an unlock code. They suggested I called Nokia. (Hour and twenty-two minute hold time) Sums up for them telling me to call T-Mobile.
This is my first W8 phone, so I don't know if flashing or installing custom firmware would just get rid needing a sim unlock. I know there is websites that I can pay to have it unlocked, but I enjoy saying money. If it is something I can do on my own. I would appreciate very much if some one could point me in the right direction.
Thank you
Take it to a T-Mobile store, say you need to go overseas and want to use a local number. There should be no problem. I've unlocked lots of phones this way. They limit how often you can do it, but unless you replace phones more often than once a year you won't even have to argue about it.
I got screwed and bought a sim locked phone - the nokia lumia 1320 - after a cricket rep told me that it "didn't need to be sim unlocked to use with t-mobile."
Now I'm trying to find a method to SIM Unlock said phone, I don't care whether or not it'll cost me money - I just want to be able to use my Lumia 1320 (from Cricket) on t-mobile...
Anyone have a solution for this predicament? Any help would be greatly appreciated, cause I've digged for hours and I can't seem to find a legitimate solution.

I've checked quite a few places and websites and it doesn't look like Cricket locked phones can be unlocked by third parties. No one I spoke to can do it. Some even have said that Cricket does some server type locking (a la iPhone?) that requires you to put in an unlock code only after they have completed some magic on their end. Almost everyone referred me back to Cricket... they do have a good unlocking policy.... but only if you're a Cricket customer for while. FYI, I have also bought locked 1320s (that were listed as unlocked) and sellers offered me unlock codes. None worked but strangely, I could attempt more times than the stated 5 or 10 tries in the unlocking dialer/menu. Strange.
If you found something, please to enlighten us. Otherwise, it looks like you're out of luck

I think I got super lucky today. I logged into the chat support on Cricket's website just ask if my 1320 IMEI number was unlockable. The rep said provide me with the IMEI number and I will provide you with the unlock code. I thought for sure he wasn't serious but sure enough he gave me a code which I immediately input into my 1320 and voila!! I then put my T-Mobile sim card into it and just like that, it's like it was always supposed to be like that.
Very lucky I think! My suggestion, keep trying with the Cricket chat and maybe you'll get a rep that feels like being generous.

That's great to hear you got it done! Good to know! US carriers now have a new (forced...) policy that they must provide unlocking methods for phones that are paid off, so it looks like things really are quite different. There's even a TMO webpage that you just input your info and you get your unlock code (even if it's a cheap $39 pay as you go phone)... totally something we aren't used to coming from a carrier reigns supreme era :good:
Hi there! Please let me know if this is the wrong section to post this question.
I recently purchased 2 Rogers Nokia Lumia 635 phones for my parents as their old phones were near death. I figured Windows Phone would be a good environment for them as they both have Windows 8.1 computers, and the UI is pretty straight forward. They don't need a ton of power, just something to make calls, text family, and sometimes look up a website. The 635 filled all these rolls and when they played with one in a store they seemed to understand and like it. Fast forward to today, I've tried 3 different unlock sites, I can list if needed, and none have been able to get a code for me saying one doesn't exist for the IMEIs. I called Rogers to see about their unlocking policy and they told me that to unlock the phones they would need to be active on their network for 3 months and then I'd have to pay $50 CAD to get the code. I'll be damned if I'll give them $80 CAD total per phone to unlock them in 3 months time. My parents wanted them so they could use them on vacation in Jamaica using local sim cards, and when they got back to put it on their PC Mobile accounts (pay as you go). We're now 3 days from when they leave and it seems like there 0 chance I can get it unlocked.
After that blob of context I have a few questions:
Has anyone managed to unlock the Lumia 635 on Rogers without going through Rogers?
Is this something that is common?
Why wouldn't the phone be unlockable?
If anyone could help answer these questions I would be extremely grateful as I'm completely stumped and confused as to what the core issue is. In the mean time I guess I'll try and return the phones and see if I can get the AT&T variant as those seem to be unlockable.

unlock sides are normally people who work at a phone store or repair center , they have access to a db where the codes are stored ( every IMEI has its own unlock code)
there is a possibility that Rogers has a separate section on the db , and the unlock sides don't have access to that part.
it could be that later in time a few unlock sides can unlock them.

As a small consolation, have you tried putting a PC Mobile SIM card into one of the 635 phones. I think PC Mobile uses Rogers Network. As the previous poster noted, the IMEI database the unlockers use most likely doesn't have the Rogers 635 IMEI numbers.

That's fair enough, we called cellunlocker (sorry if XDA doesn't want us mentioning names) and they said it may be because they are newer phones to Rogers and to try back in a couple weeks. We had to return them due to how long we had already had them for and we re-ordered more online at the same price to try again in a couple weeks. Maybe things will have changed, I'd rather buy the phone from a Canadian retailer than have to cross the border and do it.

Sadly they are on Bell, so any Bell/PC Mobile locked phone works, but not Rogers or Telus. We tried it anyways and go the unlock code prompt which cemented that we needed the code.
Thanks to both of you though for trying and explaining, at least I have a better picture of how it works now.

firrae,
Greetings.
I have been in the similar situation with my Rogers' PAYG kit of Nokia Lumia 635.
1. Yes... After months of searching and waiting, my unlocking source has finally found the 20-digit code and it is accepted by mine.
2. Yes... In my past experience with many Rogers' PAYG handsets, particularly Nokia brand, they are like being abandoned as is. My theory is that those stocks are originated from a clearing house which has got too many / overstock that other carriers in the US no longer want. Now, Nokia is gone with the Microsoft assimilation. Things could be even worse for record-keeping in transition. This is the administrative aspect of the issue. Even Rogers itself has a hard time to get the code, which would charge $50 plus tax after 90 days using it with an active account in good standing blah blah but ended up with code not found or invalid code. I have been there and I have to waste $$$ to top up the PAYG balance, for sufficient fund to unlock as well as keeping the account current for the sake of unlocking. But the balance snowballed without the issue being resolved. In the end, I asked the higher up at Rogers to do something: Transfer the balance to my home internet account. Technically, they credit me the same amount in my PAYG balance towards the home internet and told me to keep the PAYG account till it was lapsed in 30 days.
3. There is also a technical aspect of the issue... It is NOT "unlockable" but rather be DIFFICULT to get the code. In the past, Nokia use 15-digit unlock code which could still be possible to crack if the handsets could be JTAG for the protected memory. But another few more digits added, it will be like mining the Bitcoin! Again, it is just low priority for PAYG / low-tier handsets even now they are obligated to provide unlocking.
Anyway, I hope you have also got yours unlocked from your usual unlockers. However, if you still have not got it resolved, feel free to PM me for further details.

I managed to get a code for both the phones in the second batch I ordered and my parents are loving the phones so far, hopefully Rogers clears the Denim update at least, else I guess I'll have to read more into the ROM scene for WP.

Can you please help me unlock my Rogers lumia 635? Ive been trying several online sources with no luck. if you could offer any advice or recommend any unlocking services i would be very grateful! thanks for your time.
I bought a phone yesterday Rogers 635 had it unlocked in less then 2 hours.
send PM if you'd like the link.
It seems to be based on when the phone was shipped? Talking to some people behind the scenes at cellunlocker they told me that there's a delay from when the phone's code is generated and when they receive them. In my case if I had waited I probably could have gotten both unlocked. Seems like it just takes time for the codes to be released by someone.

Hi,
My brother was recently given a second-hand Lumia 625 but it is locked to a different carrier. He has asked me to help him with unlocking it because he doesn't really know anything about these things. Thing is, I have very little experience with Windows Phone. I have unlocked plenty of Android Devices in my time, but I cannot seem to find anything helpful with regards to unlocking WP devices.
I have noticed that the original carrier could possibly unlock the device if my brother asked the original owner to get them to do it, but the fee is extortionate and I am not sure they would do it if the contract is over.
So, I thought I would ask here since I know that if anybody is going to know this sort of thing it's going to be XDA Developers. Is it possible to do this? Are there any tools out there than can do it? Googling turns up very little that is useful.
pay for it
When users will understand, all lumias must be unlocked via pay-code or carrier. You can't flash or do anything about it.
Either the carrier unlocks the phone or you pay for it to an online service.
