I'm going to give some vague instructions that worked for me.
1) s-off your boot loader (revone)
2) run the exe ruu 1.29.
3) once you're back on stock follow the revone instructions to s-on.
Sorry for not providing more information. Good luck

I'm already s off. If I run the ruu I will then be stock s off and can receive the ota updates?

Yes. I'd leave it s-off. It won't hurt anything. Make sure the stock recovery is back after you run the ruu.

1. Can I leave hboot off unrooted
2. Can I lock hboot without a PC
3. Some tutorials say to lock hboot before flashing back to stock. I was aware u needed hboot unlocked to do this.

2. To unlock bootloader you need a pc
3. You need to unlock your bootloader, as for hboot depends on if you are flashing ics etc

Flashing stock ginger upgrading to stock ics
I have no clue why I am having so many issues going from rumraider beta 12 to unroot. But nonetheless I am. I will just have to sit down and read. I emailed the dev if that rom hopefully he is available

Ok so here is where I run into my issues. I am a gamer on my phone. At some point everyone is. But I play perblues games parallelmafia and parallel kingdom. On ics on the vivid I am getting some kind of skipping lag. And its only on that game. Maybe someone can help and try to figure the issue. I also called HTC support they attempted with same issue.

Question about rooting

So I'm wondering, if I go ahead and dev unlock and root then I'm going to loose some apps and loose the ability to take an ota, correct? I know that your pretty much doing that anyways to run custom roms but is there a way to add the apps back on so you could take ota?

If you ever felt the need, you could flash an RUU and then take the OTA.

yes and no.
really you could relock the bootloader at anytime and run the stock ruu and take ota's. the only difference is the bootloader will say relocked and tampered. which would really only make it hard for htc to warranty anything
Ok. I've done this a dozen times but this had me thrown for a loop. I'm just wondering if I should wait on doing this or not since I'm expecting a ota to fix some of the problems soon, especially with the home and back button.

I'm sure OMJ and Viper will both incorporate the OTA soon after it's release.

Would S-OFF work for this H-Boot

Hi guys just wondering, i have the sudden want to S-OFF my phone but i want to check if my H-Boot version is compaible with the S-OFF method.
If you have updated to ICS from the manufacturer you should be good to go. Even if you are still on GB there is an s-off kit for either version of android

Do i have to be on a stock rom to s-off because there is no way for me to go back to stock rom using ruu.

The dev of the s-off process recommends it and will not help troubleshoot without it ..
But..
Homeslice managed to s-off without going back to stock...
FYI: I know he did so pre-CM10 so maybe a sense ROM?

There is only the one proven method that I know of for this phone...
Do not be intimidated...
All the wire trick is... is finding a ground that causes a reboot in a different manner... and allows the exploit to run...
Be not afraid

Bootloops

Eventually was able to sideload a Rom to my phone. Now I get constant bootloops. Before running into problems, I was running an aosp Rom.

make sure you do a full wipe, including data and system
and make sure you flashed the right rom

Sideload "a ROM"? Running "an AOSP ROM"?
You're going to have to give a lot more information if you expect to be helped. For example, if the ROM you're trying to sideload is GSM based, that could cause bootloops. If your ROM is now a 4.1-based Sense ROM and you came from 4.2-based AOSP, you could be bootlooping. Until you actually say what you're doing, there's not a lot anyone can say other than RUU.

i was running an aosp 4.3 that was running perfect. then i flashed a new kernel that the dev said would work for that rom. it was then that the problems began. the bootloops began and then no other rom seemed to flash properly. i had already updated to the new firmware so there is no ruu option for me it seems.

Have you tried my guide?

If you get it to work the you will have to unlock your CID so you can flash the 1.29 firmware or RUU.

It seems you need to use terminal from your phone for revone and the bootlooping makes it virtually impossible. Is there a way to run the commands from a pc while in fastboot mode?

You don't need terminal. Just use the all in one tool located in one of the dev forums.

New HTC One

Just picked up a new HTC one and am intending on unlocking the bootloader, installing twrp, rooting and gaining s-off. All videos I've seen and all I've read seem to be at least 6 months old, pre 4.3 update. My question is should these procedures all work on my HTC One which is already on 4.3. Just trying to avoid any issues along the way. Thanks in advance for any answers.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Yes they are still good involving the method from getting your dev code to unlock your bootloader to installing the twrp (always install the latest version) even getting your phone s-off if your on 1.55 hboot then you need to use rumrunner to get s-off after you unlock your bootloader and install trwp and get root make sure to flash a custom Rom before you run rumrunner

I just got my one as well. Do you need to flash a custom rom before using rumrunner?

I was literally just about to post a thread just like this lol. I'm not new to rooting but this phone makes it much more difficult than my prior Samsung phones. Can someone explain to me what the difference between unlocking the bootloader is and getting s-off? Also, for several hours yesterday I was attempting to unlock the bootloader but like OP I couldn't find a recent tutorial that involves getting the dev code (I actually found one but itwasn't very thorough). What exactly is rumrunner and a RUU and why do I need them, please and thank you
