It's really a good rom.
But I'm facing a problem. The internal SD Card writing speed is only about 4MB/S
Is there anyone else facing this problem?
Will changing the default kernel help solving this?
Thanks
IDK but have you downloaded semaphore manager apk to ramp it up. Default is 512K but you can bump it up to 2048K within the app.
what aint working here?? Im sorry i ask but its important for me as i use this as a daily phone..
I tried this rom out shortly - I love PAC but I needed the extra ram. It was snappy, but it had some pretty big problems. First off I was getting battery drain and CPU maxing out when GPS was on, unlike Pac. Secondly (worst of all, which made me have to flash back), I kept finding the phone completely dead. I kept checking my BatteryStats and everything was more or less OK, so I was confused. Then on a day when I was using my phone more, I caught it rebooting into recovery mode randomly, with the screen on the whole time, so that must have been what was going on. It happened often enough that it was too unreliable for me to continue using. Maybe I'll try the stable when it's out, because it was pretty smooth. Please work on these two issues and you'll have a great rom!
So thanks for the completely useless post give me damn logs. Anyways you guys can consider this device EoL. I have 0 intentions to update sgs1 to 4.4

I never understood all the whining & complaining ... esp. when you consider 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 ... the evolution to "butter" smoothness on these ancient phones has been spectacular. SB & PRB are at the forefront of that. I know people (with other phone types) who don't even get to use anything past Gingerbread (due to stability and lack of official support). Just look at all the roms left for dead on CM's nightly page.
Thanks to the tremendous efforts of PRB, jrongi1, DT, FE, stratosk, and others (inc. their testers) ... it's been an absolute pleasure to continue using this phone. Definitely showing its age spec-wise, but the latest 4.3 builds have been silky silky smooth. SB 4.3 v1.4 was great for me, and I just noticed the new weekly was posted.
So, damn ... just wanted to say "THANK YOU" to PRB for all the work put into maintaining this device. Whether EoL happens or not for SB's Vibrant fate, I'm stoked that at least jrongi1 is willing to carry the flag. PRB, man, seriously, thanks brother for all you do. Ignore the whiners 'cuz that stuff is unfortunately inevitable in this massive XDA expanse.
Rom problem it's effing random and logs don't show much...

I'm wondering if this might be an issue with the kernel or not but I've been getting quite a few soft (dirty) reboots. (I'm using GearKernel 1.0.9v2sv, by the way.) When I perform any action relating to file management (installing/uninstalling APKs, moving apps to SD card, enabling USB mass storage, etc.) it goes into a soft reboot. It might be because of the scheduler (sioplus) GearKernel might be using or that I'm overclocking up to 1200 MHz. I'm asking if this might be an issue with the ROM itself or if it occurs on any other ROM. I'll pull you a logcat when I experiment a bit more ...

I haven't had much luck with GearKernel on Slim. The one freak time I was able to use it (without losing IMEI) was flashing 1.0.8sv right after restoring an SB 7.8 nandroid. It was actually the smoothest kernel I've used at stock speeds (ondemand, sioplus) ... but terribly unstable at 1200-1400 Mhz. When OC'd, the phone would inevitably soft reboot, as you mentioned. Mackay Kernel 0.335 was more stable on SB 7.8 (than GearKernel), and it would allow gaming at 1400 MHz. However, Mackay also would eventually soft reboot at 1200-1400 MHz (tho it lasted a bit longer than GearKernel) ... and then would end up losing IMEI at random times. Even Semaphore would soft reboot at 1200 Live OC, though it would last much longer than either GearKernel of Mackay. Mackay's 1400 MHz is the fastest I've ever experienced on my Vibe ... but the fun only lasts until the next soft reboot. Lol. :crying:
I've tried GearKernel 1.0.9v2sv on 7.8, 8.0, and 4.3 v1.4 ... but I'd lose IMEI/APN/Baseband every fricken time I flashed that thing. No method would ever bring the damn thing back - ie. pull SIM / reboot / reinsert SIM, wipe init.d, and even manually restoring a backed up efs folder.
I've got a smooth 4.3 v1.6 running now, so I'm not even gonna touch it. Semaphore runs very smooth on 1.6. Maybe bring up the issue in Alberto's thread. He may have more insight for you. Good luck.

It soft rebooted because your device can't handle that high of an oc. For example some people can not over clock at all some can hit 1.2ghz a few can hit 1.4-1.7

I don't appreciate the hostile reply. The rom was unstable enough that I just flashed back before I got any logs, and I figured any issue that severe would have already cropped up. I hope I didn't seem ungrateful about your work, just stating the fact, that right now for me it was too unstable to run. I understand that it's a nightly, and I was just testing it out.
Anyway, it's a moot point because it sounds like you're not going to maintain it anyway, so I'm not sure why you'd even be asking for logs.
Fact? Fact is runs fine on my captivate, or as fine as it can on it. Without logs it's just wasting keystrokes. I asked for logs because I'm still maintaining it. I said I won't be for next aosp version. Guys it's impossible to say how a rom/kernel set ups react on each separate device so if crap breaks and you actually want to help the community provide explicit instructions how to reproduce any problem with logs and screenshots if applicable. Else man don't bother.
Cheers

@prbassplayer thank you for your hard work on maintaining our phone and keeping it alive for so long. I am sad to hear that you won't be maintaining it for the next major update. Is that a for sure thing, or is it just a likely thing depending on how our phone continues to run?

Its already lagfest (yes it is use a newer phone and you will see the difference), doubt a new aosp version will help. And time man. I'm maintaining 3 SGS1 devices, Skyrocket, Hercules, 3 t0lte devices and I spend a lot of time working on mako kernel as its the device I actually own and use as dd.

So, the latest weekly build was a huge improvement over the first. No more soft reboots! (It could be GearKernel's problem. I'm not so sure.) Everything works great and performance is balanced quite nicely. The only issue I have is the back button often doesn't quit a running app but it works with going back a "page". The other capacitive keys are fine, though. I usually resort to using the Home button to quit instead.

Get the semaphore manager from play store as slim uses the kernel it can help with some of the lag. But as prb said the Vibrant is not a speedy device as much as I use my N4 it can seem like forever doing things on the Vibrant.

Hi, I tried this kernel with CyanogenMod nightly 195, and I found the phone to be laggy as hell. Which ROM were you using?
Thanks. Anil
I have this kernel (older version with owains tweak pack) on miui and my experience has been just wonderful. Excellent standby time, haven't felt my phone heat up even once, no bsod's. I found cm7 to be very laggy in the first place so I moved to miui and boy am I glad. On cm it felt like every new flash it got slower and I was worried it might break. On miui things are so simple, just install miui, reboot and install tweak pack(it includes kernel older version) and your done. Just two steps. If you guys like this kernel please add your feedback to the kernel's page here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325183
i have this kernel on my cm7 (the nightly from today) clocked at 1.5 GHz and i get
#Quadrant Standart:
1st try: 3701 pts
2nd try: 4144 pts
3rd try: 4644 pts
4th try: 4639 pts
#AnTuTu Benchmark v2.4.2:
1st try: 7464 pts
2nd try: 7524 pts
After that i have restarted my phone, because it was getting really hot..
#Smartbench 2011 :
1st try: Failed! (Invalid results - at least one of the test dind't execute throug completely. Please try again.)
2nd test: Failed! (same as above)
3rd test: Failed! (again)
So i think its a very fast kernel !
Before this one, i have used the vorkkernel.. and this has got many bugs with 1.5ghz (e-peen), but this kernel (swiftextreme) is just Great !

Hi, I have no issues with CM7. The only reason I was interested in a different kernel was to see if I could get better battery life.
No matter, I will stick with CM7 & the kernel they provide. I found MIUI to be very beautiful, and very well thought out. But, it is an ANDROID version of Apple's iOS' look and feel, plus they imitate the iOS way of doing things.
Have fun. Anil
If you love cm7 then you should know this kernel works for both miui and cm7. Just use it already, its a known fact that this kernel is the shiznit.

Hi, I have used it and found it to be laggy as "shiznit". In fact I tried it again last night, the low overclock version and my phone failed to boot.
You carry on though. Anil
Well you should post your findings in the kernel thread here. How else are we going to find what needs fixing ? I am on an optimus 2x and and the kernel is working almost 100% for me. If I had to guess I would say its because I'm on miui. I have a friend with an o2x with the kernel on cm7 and his experience is also not satisfactory.
I used to love cm7 and think miui is the ios look alike but after using it for few weeks I can tell you its not. I think most people are still thinking of the old miui with iphone icons(things have changed). I will not go deeper into that discussion because this is the page for kernel discussion. We are all entitled to enjoy the kernels and roms we like, but if you are experiencing issues the least you can do is alert the dev in the appropriate page. Please don't take it personally but there are many many cm7 users in the swift kernel thread who have posted their experiences and its opposite of what you are saying.

Yes its not perfect. If it was development would stop right ?
I wanted to make sure I didn't come off as offensive, you will be surprised how many cm7 fanatics are out there who will start yelling the moment they hear miui. I didn't want to sound like im promoting miui but rather the kernel powering it. If you check the last few posts you will see there have been an increase in cm7 users of the kernel and they are reporting good results on the new nightlies.
I would like to point out that with miui I have not upgraded anything in over a month and its still going smooth. I see so many cm7 users with bsod and no boots and bootloops and so on with almost every version that came out they have issues whereas the miui users have barely said anything. I guess coz its works for us ?
I think the best way is to post in the kernel thread in the development area. The developer is regular there so if you have anything at all to add, features you want or fixes to current version etc. please post there. The dev is very friendly and him or someone cm7 user will help you find your match.
Once again this is the original thread please post your results and comments here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325183

Whether or not an overclocked device is stable doesn't depend on a random number (like 807) but rather on the hardware – in our case the build quality of the CPU – itself. I for example can't even overclock to 7xx without having my device crash after a few seconds (a minute at best).

The msm7k in our device was designed and manufactured to run at 600MHz. As far as my experience goes suggesting to overclock isn't really a good thing to do, because, as I said, whether your device is capable of running at a certain speed is dependent on the chipset itself.
I got various reports of users telling me that their device reboots as soon as they open a complex website and they never mentioned they overclocked it. Imagine how much fun debugging was (I literally scratched my head over this issue) until I finally found out it was their fault, not a bug in the JS engine.

Well, the perceived speed of the launcher doesn't make the device faster at all. Your games won't run smoother because you install a different launcher.
You claim that the overall device speed is faster (at least that's how I understood it) and I was simply curious on what facts you might base your statement.
You know, I'm always open to improvements in CM. Apparently this one won't make it in.

CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications. Please note that on some devices the kernel is not yet linaro compiled.

So....video recording will not work on this ROM I assume? This is the only thing I'm holding out on before I unlock my bootloader and load any 4.2.x ROM
There is an 11 page thread with 200+ replies about this ROM over on Droid-Hive. There's a link to the thread in the OP. The recurring problems I've read about over there are difficulty with GPS lock, lack of screen brightness control, lack of video recording capability, overheating. From what I've read the only one of those issues that seems widespread (rather than some having the problem and others NOT having the problem) is lack of video recording. I'm still running stock ROM 4.1.2 rooted with unlocked bootloader but I'm reading all the time about custom ROMs. Haven't found the one I'll take the plunge on as I need the functions that typically are problematic (Bluetooth, camera, etc) but from what I've read Carbon seems like a solid choice.

I've been running Carbon for about a week now and from personal experience here are the issues I've encountered.
1) No video recording
2) The phone can run hot when used for a little bit
3) Random reboots have increased. I didn't have one until about day 3 in and yesterday I had 3.
4) I would say the data signal is not quite as strong.
5) I can't personally send MMS. I was able to for about a day but after a random reboot, i was unable to get it to work again. But no one else seemed to have that issue.
I personally had no difficulties with GPS or Brightness. There is a new build out released yesterday but for me the brightness was stuck at 100% so I reverted back to the older version until that's fixed. Just thought you guys might want to hear from someone who's been using it as a DD. It's awesome - probably the best ROM out for the HD right now. But of course it has it's flaws.
Been running this since late last week and so far it's the best 4.2 rom I've used. I've not seen a single random reboot, GPS and MMS work fine and battery life is comparable to the other 4.2 roms I've installed. I have seen some sluggishness that required a manual reboot (wiping caches for good measure) to fix. I did noticed the phone running a bit hot a few times, but nothing much worse than other custom roms. Overall it's smooth and responsive with great customization options.

I agree it is probably the best choice available. According to the dev, the update was just a new link...not an actual update. I was going to flash it until I read that. I've had the reboot issue but considering where this phone was a month ago, I am happy.
Also there is a new CM10 over at the Razr site. I am going to give it a try this weekend but it will have to be flawless for me to leave Carbon.

I went back to Nexusque today. After nearly a week with perfect GPS on this rom it just decided it did not want to lock even though it had a fix on 14 birds this morning.
After a reboot the GPS would not work at all. Booting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik made no difference either. Oh well, next time it's updated I'll give it another look.

I had the same problem. I had to install from a stock based ROM (I used the 4.1.2 stock). Now GPS is working after each reboot (which unfortunately is like 3-4 times a day) I get if you want to wait for an update, but wanted to let you know there is possibly a solution out there if you really want to use this ROM.

Yeah, I'm sure the GPS stock-lock boogie would get it fixed, but I'm kinda past wanting to bother with it. I love this rom, but if things are just going to spontaneously break like that I would just as soon camp on a stock based rom till Hashcode gets the 4.2 kernel done.
the ROM sounds nice, i downloaded it and tried to set it up, but i have a question, i am using the phone overseas, so i am not on Verizon, how can i add APN settings please? and how to select GSM only? thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply, but actually i have xt926, the verizon one, i dont think the GSM version would work with it, the phone was working normal on stock and almost all the other ROMs
if just i can find how to enter the APN settings, it used to be under the access point name
ok i found the APN settings, i entered the APN, the same i used to use all the time on other ROMs but there is no internet, i think it is ROM related, i dont know why i cant post on DH till now, i posted on post, after that i cannot post that is why i am posting here

First, do a factory reset - you shouldn't have any saved networks when you start. The first rule of flashing new roms is clean, clean, clean before you wipe. 80% of all problems I see when flashing are caused by dirty flashes. After you install this ROM, once it's stabilized, then you can think about wiping only dalvik and cache before flashing.

yeah that is what i did, i wiped everything, after i set it up i added my home network, then when at my office i added office network, i still really like the ROM and the wifi thing is not really an issue to me
I've been running XenonHD for the past five days. Mostly, it's excellent -- stable, smooth and fast as claimed. But I'm having persistent problems with signal strength and with data speeds. It's not that I can't GET data, it's that my signal strength is measurably less now than it was with a stock ROM in places where I know how strong my signal should be, I almost never get an indication that I'm connecting at 4G speeds even in places where I used to maintain 4G and my data reception is spotty to the point that web sites and Play Store come back "no signal" now in places where they never did before. From these comparisons I believe I know that the issue ISN'T that my connection is the same but the indicators are different but rather that my connections (reception, data speed, 3G vs 4G) are worse than they were.
I'm running the latest version of XenonHD on my Verizon XT926 and I wiped everything completely before installation. My installation went very smoothly. I don't have video recorder and I can't tether but both of those shortcomings were known before I flashed the ROM. My data signal strength problems are bad enough that, if I can't improve my situation, I may look for another ROM.
Are there settings in the ROM that could improve my data speed and connectivity? Is there a patch or an app that will at least get me back to the level of connection performance that I had on stock? If so, I'll be happy to use XenonHD as my DD.

When it's working it's a great ROM..but...
After a short while the launcher start crashing to the point that the ROM became unusable..
I am back to stock JB (Rogers).
I followed the instruction of installation to the point.
hi guys i was just wondering if anyone could explain the benefits of Omni Rom?
I have switched continuously between stock and Omni, however i seem to always return to stock mainly because of the screen of death issue and blue screen issues that Omni has.
However, it would be nice to know what benefits Omni has and why i have that urge to always want to try Omni again!
Don't

As an advice, Do not use at all
I used for about a week, and i needed to open my mobile many times to unplug then replug the battery again to make my mobile come back to life, you will see many sudden restarts, and you will see many blue screens.

I think it is simply because either you love flashing and testing new things out or you love the simplicity and AOSP feel. I know I love it. Its also the fact that you've on the latest android version with is super "light" when compared to others. Its very snappy and can multitask like a bull compared to even the 4.3, and no massive themeing or bloatware. And not to forget the multitude of features and customizations you get with the ROM. I personally love the Active Display and I don't know how I lived without it. Anyway if you have the urge, like me, to switch between ROM, CWM backups are the best because setting up a ROM from the beginning is a pain. Another such person is moly82! He too flashes every release!

As an advice, Do not use at all
I used for about a week, and i needed to open my mobile many times to unplug then replug the battery again to make my mobile come back to life, you will see many sudden restarts, and you will see many blue screens.

Haha WHAT? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. Yes you do see blue screens, but mostly one per day. And even then the phone reboots in under a minute and is back to normal as if nothing happened. Please re-flash and re-evaluate.

Excuse me!!
Are you serious??
Is it OK for you to have reboots more than five times a day and this is only for the daily use??!! I did not even try demanding games.
And do you know anything about the need to remove your (non-removable) battery and re-plug it??
Please, if you think my opinion is ridiculous, then give that rom a try, and then give me your own opinion.
I wonder how can you consider your mobile reliable anymore if it will reboot even during playing the silliest and tiniest games ever there.
After all, this is my opinion which you may not agree with, but you are supposed to respect.

Yes. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Respect there. But not to mislead others, you just gave a very uniquely bad experience. Everyone else loves this ROM. I have been on it since the first week of its release. There are loads of other Omni users who will agree with me.
As for the battery removal, i cannot remove mine. Its an XT. Reboots do not occur five times a day, mostly twice! At least not for me. I listen to music constantly with JetAudio which is a heavy app, use Whatsapp all the time, browse with Chrome at least twice a day and many other things. I do not play games though... so I can't say anything about that.
Thank you for the concern guys but you still haven't answered my question what are the benefits of omni against stock???

Advantages: incredibly fast in relation with stock, immersive mode (love it), personalisation, great support, less 3G consumption, latest android version, boot in 27s, and the battery, this is my best, a lot of free RAM(400MB with 35 apps installed by me).

Disadvantages: blue screen, normally one per day, camera is worse than in stock(a lot) ,low sound speaker.

I have had Omnirom since first tilals build and it was amazing. Since 4.4.2 it becomes more unstable and I sometimes have had more than one reboot. Using my phone as drivers log I really can't use random reboots. The sound is very low, a workaround makes it loud and whistle.
Now I am an stock and yes, it isn't the stable it should be, but there seems to be an update shortly. But stock rom is also very fast, fast enough I guess. A benefit stock rom has is usb otg, a feature I need, too and don't have with OmniRom or Cyanogen Rom.

Not true. I got 3 to 5 blue screens a day on omni. A few times a day my Xperia got stuck on a black screen. For both i had to do a hard reboot (power + volume).
The battery was very bad to for me. It was empty in 10 to 12 hours with 2 hours screen time. With 4.3 i get a day with the same screen on time. Also the camera on stock is a lot better
As long as Sony haven't released the source it's not gonna get much better.
Don't get me wrong. I normally prefer aosp above a stock rom. But this time 4.3 is a lot better.

Yes,the OTG and the HDMI don't work, but that are features that not all the people use, this is the best of ROMs, you can choose your best option depending of your needs.
Did you try the nighlties with the new branches?
I have tested stock and Omni feels faster,in my opinion.

Yes I have tested some homebuilds and after the new branches comes back to the nightlies I also have flashed these builds.
You are right, OmniRom feels faster than stock rom but I can't use the random reboots. I need the drivers log and every reboot is a showstopper I really don't need. A rom should be fast, yes, but it must be stable at all.
I have to say, there is nothing I really miss with stock rom, on the contrary.

Well I think there is no point in arguing about the blue screens because it must certainly depend on the amount usage and kind of usage. As for the battery life, I can get much better battery life.. about 2.5 hours screen time and can last overnight. It would be <14% though.

To conclude, when Sony release the new open source files and the developer use them I recommend you to use Omni, you won't regret.?
