[Q] give my phone more frequency bands? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am ordering a phone from over seas and i want to take one of my old nexus one radios and put it in this new phone im getting. is this possible? why or why not?
i might not be wording this right but what im thinking of doing is finding the specific harware part and removing it physically from one device and soldering to the new device.

Nope, not going to happen. There is far more than just soldering an antenna to the board, and if you attempt to flash the radio to the new phone you will most certainly have a new brick instead

Question about Nexus One Frequency

If I change the logic board from t-mobile to att would it pick up on att 3g? or is there something else i need to change.
thats a good question, because you might also need a new antenna. who knows if the ATT antenna is slightly different vs the tmobile antenna, since the frequencies are slightly different...maybe different design?
where would you get the new logic board anyway?
ive seen a few broken nexus one on craigslist cracked screens or other issues and yeah thats seems like a good idea hmm i dont know now lol

N1 replace How to.

Ok.. so sorry for spamming the Q&A but did anybody replaced their Nexus one Due to Wifi Problem..
i dont think its Hardware problem but What if it is..
i bought mine off craiglist . it came cm nightly rom preloaded.
wifi sometimes works sometimes it doenst.
now it doenst work.
so i might conctact HTC and see if i can get a fix or replaced
but i dont want to pay for all the crap if its not covered by warranty
Dont they like charge 28 dollars just for Inspecting your nexus one + other stuffs?
Can someone post a pic back of their nexus one without back cover one?
Cause when i take off the backcover
im missing Void sticker on top of the screws.
or is it like that in the first place.
by the way mine is already unlocked and all but i saw people getting replaced with no problem even though their device was unlocked if im not wrong
How can i tell how old is my nexus one?
like for apple u can just type in their serial number and it will show u when u bought it.
but i couldnt find it on HTC website.
Try flashing a different kernel, certain kernels don't agree with the wifi antenna. Otherwise, you're playing roulette when trying to warranty an unlocked phone.

[Q] replacing motherboard (will I need to re-root?)

my sprint htc hero needs a new motherboard only because the usb is completely damaged from the outside only. It is rooted. Once the new motherboard is in, will I still have root? what should I expect when I turn the phone on for the first time?

You can replace a motherboard but can't handle root?
replacing the motherbord shouldnt affect the actual software so yes im pretty sure you will still be rooted.
to be honest though i would just get a new phone because i know motheboards arnt cheap.
well, I did get a new phone a while ago. got the evo 4g. but this hero just keeps bugging me, so kind of more for fun, I want to give this a go. I already ordered the motherboard on ebay. 30 bucks plus shipping. I saw a video on youtube and replacing it looks fairly simple. It is going to take a couple of weeks for it to get here, but will post back and let you know how it turns out.

No, you will need to root again. The android software is stored of the motherboard. So putting in a new one will be like getting a new phone, minus new parts on the outside.
If the motherboard you bought is used, then whatever the previous user had on it, then that's what you would find. Hope this helps.

ha proved me wrong lol. either way rooting shouldnt be a problem just z4 that bad boy and itll be up and running in no time
ah, that makes sense now. well it is a new motherboard. found two sellers on ebay both of which have a small supply for 30 bucks each. okay so I start over once I have it. many thanks
I know it has been a while, but just to finalize, got this hero working like a charm. changing the mother board was the easy part. the trick was finding the right sprint store that would get msl code and make everything match up between the new mother board and the phone. they have to actually change codes in their data base or you will not get service.
Damn, you should have asked -- I have a couple extra heroes from friends who move on.
wow, thanks. You know it was one of those things that you brake and get some redemption when you fix it.

[Q] Will Sprint fix my HTC Hero

Ive had my Hero 2 months after it was released. As hero users know paint on the front casing chips, so I just "scratched" it away. It also randomly turns off and it freezes up.
2 months after the Evo came out I bought it brand new from craigslist. So i didnt even remember where my hero was, until i found it today.
My question is in the condition that its in, can I still take it to sprint so they can either fix or replace it? and in the picture attached does that red seal indicate water damage?
yes i have sprints insurance and the phone isnt in bad conditions (cosmetic), the evo just takes pretty good pics... lol
thanks in advance.
Doubt it, they rarely fix the casing, unless something else is wrong and swap out the device...
And in that condition, they may pull a "Its due to physical dmg" and won't fix it.

yea sprints warranties are software based maybe if u brick it and say its the battery they might take it back lol.

SIM/SD-CARd Board - Can a HTC Desire Boartd be used?

The story is that my SIM/SD-CARD board went due to water damage some 8 months or so ago.
I sent it to a distributor that supports HTC products but they said the N1 was not a product on their list.
I am thinking rather than having this brick that can't read SIM or SD-Cards, I would prefer it working and give it to my child. I know both the mic and phone listening points work.
So I am wondering if I can tell the HTC distributors to replace the SIM/SD-CARD board on my N1 with an HTC Desire one (which they support) at my own risk if it does not work? I know the phones have similarities. But is this board one of them?
In the meanwhile I am getting myself ready for a DIY by looking at ifixit.com.
edit - that must be some of the worst threat title work

Ebay also has them for $6.50 shipped.
Search for: "microsd sim nexus one" without the quotes.
