Handmade Gameklip - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I wanted a gameklip but when I looked it up online I wasn't happy with the shipping time frame. As an aviation mechanic I had the tools and the materials to make one myself.
Materials use:
• aluminum sheet (2"×6")
•Hand files (assorted cuts and sizes)
• Hand drill and a 1/4" drill bit
• 320 sand paper
• Paint (primer, flat black, mate clear)
• 3M double sided tape
• Cheap hard/flexible case
I dont have a diagram with the measurements at the moment but if someone wants it I eill post them.

Great job there on the d.i.y. gameklip, skywarrior. I too made made my own version because nothing out there suited my needs. Mine is black abs plastic, fits the GN2 with the Zerolemon battery, a spring loaded kickstand and even a real carbon fiber emblem. I have been too busy with other projects but hope to find time to take proper photos and post them. Keep up the good work.....

I've made several myself, but the idea isn't very popular with xda. I'll eventually move onto using PS3 controllers soon.

Very Nice,
I would likely go with a solid color for protection because I have to keep my tech tame looking for work ya know
Cheers
BR
This looks very nice, where can I purchase this exact skin. Blue's my favorite color, and it goes extremely well with the Athena. Also, what did you use or how did you get to cutout the buttons?
i think this is the one that i saw in a mall in manila.
any details? contact info? price? etc..
how to's
Laptop skins are available in most gadget shops i think
Just look for laptop skins that are vinyls...
How? I use index cards to make patterns...First cut them in Athena's dimensions (dimensions for the parts you want to cover only, not dimensions of the whole Athena eg. front face, back part, sides etc.)
Then put the pattern over the device and get a pencil. To mark the buttons, scribble the pattern lightly to show the position of button and other inclusions...then place the pattern over the vinyl skin and secure it with tape. Get a paper blade cutter and carefully cut the traced marks. For circle holes (eg. front buttons, front camera, mic etc.) use a paper hole puncher.
Here's a sample of pattern for Athena's front face (all the way to the 3 Mp camera at the back)
Excellent post bud. I'll try to find the skin today to take on the task. Awesome!!!

[DIY] Diy Nexus 7 smart case!

I've just made this very very very prototype case with a magnet to automatic turn off the screen. This is really simple, I only placed the magnet in the right position with a bit of adhesive tape. I will cut the cover and place the magnet inside it. I'll update this post! :good:
Update:
I placed the magnet inside the cover, I'll close it later. Now I'm trying to shield the magnet, I placed a bit of alluminium foil with some adhesive tape behind the case but I'll try with steel shim (thanks quocamole)

if you plan on folding the cover all the way back, you might need a steel shim to shield the magnet from turning off the n7 from the back. has to be steel; size of shim depends on strength of magnet. i found the magnets from cannibalized old cases (i.e. blackberry cases) have the perfect amount of magnetism.
In my opinion it might work but it looks like crap. Wouldn't want to show this diy solution to any of my clients, friends or family. It's not like those covers are very expensive. I have seen them on Amazon for like ten euros...
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 7 mit Tapatalk 2
thirst of all thx to Tuxliri for bringing this idea into my mind :highfive:
i know its an old thread but who cares i just bought my nexus7 and was inspired by it (and of course other modders) to go for my first "hardware mod" :fingers-crossed:
and i must confess i really like it and i'm really satisfyed with the result! :victory:
it converted my asus std cover to a smartcase with materials i had at home and it was really easy :cyclops:
used materials:
- ring magnet from spare ear headphones (broken up - it looked like the magnet in Tuxliris pics)
- felt pads used to protect my parquet floor from scratches (see picture felt_pad.jpg)
felt pads work wonderfull for this purpose, i thought about using a large felt pad for the whole screen area on the cover
this would better hide the magnet and would also conserve the screen somehow
well, lets see whats the next devil that will ride me
so keep on modding folks! :good:
You are just asking for a broken screen doing that. Creating a pressure point is never a good idea.

thanks for bringing up this point mate :good:
you're right that it creates a pressure point
might be an issue when the nexus gets transported squeezed between other things in a bag
for a perfect result i would have to carve the magnet deeper into the cover
well i'll think about it

This would be the perfect "thin case".

I have a Samsung flip case which I love but the lack of drop protection is disconcerting. What would be awesome would be if someone made little clear gel "corner bumpers" that you could just fit over each corner and not all the way around the phone. They could be small and thin with a little stickiness on the inside to hold them on. It would be the ultimate "thin" case as it only protected the corners (the trouble spots).
Does such a thing exist?

or make your own and don't put any coloring in it. I think it will be as clear as silicone gel.

Thanks but I am looking for something premade and clear. That would look pretty ghetto.

mine doesn't look perfect, but it's only as ghetto as your art skills. get someone else to do it for you. It's not just silicone so not sticky after it sets.
It's the best drop protection you'll get on anything thin. plastic just transfers energy to the screen, rubber on the sides just adds bulk and there doesn't need to be anything on the back in most cases.
In reality though, most cases look ghetto compared to the gorgeous phones we get new and then cover up. My brother's iPhone bumpers are 5th or 6th generation Sugru, so he's getting pretty good at shaping them and they are only raised about 1/16" on the ends but a bit more for the face.

Wouldn't those just fall off if you dropped it on one of those corners? What holds that stuff in place, can it be removed without damage to the device? Residue, adhesive?

[HowTo] Convert the original Asus Nexus 7 Case into a Smart Cover

Hi,
About 2 weeks ago i bought the original asus case for the nexus 7. Unfortunately it is not a smart cover. But with a few mods you can easily convert it into a smart cover which uses the sleep/wake function of the Nexus 7 tablet.
This article is a short tutorial how build such a case without spending a lot of money ...
So, first you should think about a small, thin magnet. I bought some cheap K315 AKG headphones ...

... and saw that the box has 4 magnets. You can see the small round black magnet in this picture.
This magnet is really thin but its still too big. So, just break it into small pieces and take the best one. Afterwards sand it (in german: abschleifen) and stick it on the case. You can see the right position on the following picture. Thats how it looks afterwards ....
... and ....
...and from the side...
So, now you have a working smart cover which activates the screen when the cover gets opened. Typically you fold the cover to the back which would deactive the screen again. To avoid that you need a thin piece of shim steel. I got mine from a beer coaster During drinking the beer i've worked on the coaster and made it as thin as possible. You can see the result on the follwing picture. Make sure that you put this piece of steel on the right place !! You can test it later with your magnet ...
Finally, after putting the Nexus 7 device back into the case, you can fold the cover to the back without deactivating the screen .....
So, thats it. From now on you just need to open the cover and your Nexus 7 turns on
If you've questions, don't hesitate to ask me
I like this. If I was to do it, I would paint the magnet with some rubber paint to match the colour of the case: http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

Thanks, that's a good idea.
Currently, I am thinking about a more optimized version... The hight of the magnet is so low, that it would be possible to put it to the inner side of the cover in such a way that the magnet is completly absorbed and surrounded by the cover with no contact to the display of the tablet.
Therefore i would need to countersink the cover a little bit for the magnet so that it fits into it. With that solution the magnet would be hidden with no risk to scratch the display. The front cover itself has about twice the high of the magnet. Thats perfect.
But for now, at least the next days, i let it as it is with the solution which i've described in the tutorial. It's a solution with no risk and i could revert it if want to. And it works just perfectly

skin for lenovo yoga book

Hi all
Does anyone know where I can get a protective skin for the yoga book, it's such a slim device seems a shame to add load of bulk with a protective case but suspect it will scratch up a bit when i'm out and about. I'm based in the UK and so far can't seem to find anyone who makes them yet.
Many thanks
Regards
Andy
Hi Andy,
i also would like to have a skin for my yoga book. I already sent a request to dbrand ( https://dbrand.com/ ) for creating one.
They said if they get enough requests they will start prototyping.
So i would suggest everone who wants a skin for his yoga book should make a request at https://dbrand.com/contact
Best Regards,
Christian
There are cheap skins at Amazon and eBay. I really want one that looks like a note book. But the only have that style for other Yoga devices. I have used my YogaBook at work and people were quite impressed by it. Until I unfolded it from tablet mode to laptop mode and the keyboard lit up, everyone thought it was just a tablet because it was so thin. Until I opened it from close, people thought it was just a paper notepad.
Since it is slippery on table top, I experimented with with taping silicone sheets of various thickness at the bottom. That make the thing stick to table when you type. But since the hinge is made such that when in tablet mode the two sides close almost without a gap. Even a silicone sheet 1/32" thick is too thick to keep the two sides from folding into a tablet because the hinge end will pinch on it. I can stack up to at most 4 sheets of prints paper before it prevents the Book from folding into a tablet. So the skin must be very thin. I have DBrand skin for my XPS 13 9350. It is quite thick. Hope they acquire an actual device to test out fitment.

Got my skin from Amazon. Unfortunately I am new here and am not allowed to post the link yet. Only posting picktures.

Yep, I requested a skin for the Yoga Book and will now wait until they release it.. and also see how expensive it would be...
i bought a nomal skin made for laptop in the right size on ebay and then just used a pen knife to make the cutouts needed to make it fit proper and it works like a charm.
