[Q] Soft or Hard? Bricked HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay - Don't want to say NOOB mistake but, failure to follow direction - YES. In any case I NEED HELP!!! Like everyone else, sold my phone and attempted to put it back to stock.
Changes made - Changed to Google Edition from AT&T.
- Rooted Phone - S-OFF - Changed CID to GOOGL001 - flashed GE RUU.zip -- Enough said
Changes made to go back to stock
- Changed CID back to CWS__001 -- Turned S-On ** First mistake -- Locked bootloader -- attempted to flash ATTRUU
- Went to flash cyanogenmod just to have a rom and accidentally FORMATTED in TWRP -- 2nd mistake
I have also tried every RUU that might have an inkling of success but all i get is the 12 signature verify fail
I have tried everything twice. But with out S-OFF i think i'm dead in the water.
I tried - flashing hboot1.44 (modifing android-info) and get error
c:\androidsdk\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot flash zip hboot144.zip
target reported max download size of 1526722560 bytes

OKAY [ 0.230s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.279s
** I have tried RUU.exe's but nothing will go because of the CID/HBOOT mismatch
Here is what I have

** If i could just flash an hboot - I could get an RUU working but again I need S-OFF.
- Also when I try to flash cyanogenmod from recovery, it says Unable to mount system, data, can't mount **** and I assume because recovery reformatted them and the correct file systems are not in place.
FML!!! PLEASE HELP

Read Vomers great post, and follow the instructions very carefully

Active cmdline overflow?

I've had a look around and read other topics on this, but none have seemed to help me. I was in the middle of returning my HTC One back to stock, all was good until I did an OTA update. Now I keep getting "active cmdline overflow! (1090 bytes)"
I can't get back into RUU by "fastboot oem rebootRUU"

Remove your serial number and your IMEI number from your original post like it did in the quote above, its dangerous to post it.
then see here for your problem and a fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126
copy and paste the dd commands to be safe, if you make a mistake with the command or code then its bye bye phone.
ah thanks for that.
I've tried to flash a new recovery, but I still can't boot into it.

you HAVE TO flash that modified recovery in the thread I linked, its the only one that will work.
Sorry if I didn't make it clear, but that was the recovery I flashed. Yet it still reboots to the bootloader instead.

Oh sorry, my bad, reading through the thread, its states you need to downgrade your HBOOT, but ill just double check that, you are s-off so shouldn't be a problem.
it's proving tricky.
I've downloaded the hboot, when I get an error.. FAILED <remote: not allowed>
yup, seems the problem is with HBOOT 1.55 and upwards, a lot of people on there are just downgrading there HBOOT to 1.44 then the recovery works, however, if you decided to do this you need to be aware that windows 8 upwards will no longer detect your phone, you must use windows 7 or Ubuntu.
I'm using Window 7 Professional 64-bit.
Can you point me in the right direction on how to correctly downgrade? I tried to dowgrade to 1.44 and got this.

excellent, glad it worked, you have to be very careful with HBOOTs, the wrong one will lead to an instant brick, you don't want to be seeing any error's :crying:
Sorry for the slightly necro post.
I'm running into the same problem again, after updating via OTA.
My HBOOT got set to 1.57 and every time I try to flash the zip I get an error.

Don't use the firewater HBOOT. Use the proper one. Try flashing the firmware by itself, so your HBOOT will get replaced, then try flashing the RUU.

Here is my device's history:
Stock (regular HTC1 no dev edition)
Unlocked Bootloader
Rooted

Installed Android revolution
Tried to convert to developer edition (for lollipop early upgrade)
Modified to SuperCID
Now I can use any RUU for the life of me, I've tried about 10 of them, but nothing seems to support it and i always end up with a ERROR 158
I'm kind of new to this even though ive screwed around with my phone a bunch. Can you just help me to get to a stock version of lollipop? THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE

First, remove your imei and serial number from above, you don't want to post that info.
As your phone is s-off you can use any RUU you like, just change your cid and mid to match the RUU you want to use first, also you may need to flash the corresponding firmware for that RUU first for it to work.
EDIT: Follow this guide to convert to dev edition http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/guide-convert-m7-developer-edition-t2840311

Just tried updating to lastest TWRP 2.8.6.0 and trying to install the ZIP that i downloaded from HTC above, fails right away.
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/m7ul-3.4.10-g3ca631.zip'
Fixed it myself! Updated my firmware on my phone to something newer (Firmware 7.19.401.2) and was able to flash a stock rom. Also had to make sure i was SUPERCID.
I have no idea if this information is correct or not

My AT&T HTC One M7.. Help?

Okay so, I was being all in awe because this was my first root, and I did it, but here's the messy bit, I kept installing ROMs and it felt messy so I went into TWRP (Version: 2.6.3.0) and I sort of went into advanced restore/reset options and I checked off everything. Bad idea by the way. So to sum it up this far, I uninstalled the operating system. The original backup of the original stock ROM was on the phone, it's now lost. I've been trying for days to fix it, and I know I messed up big , I re-locked the phone and I cannot get it to unlock again, so I lost access to TWRP, and I just want my phone back.. When I try to flash anything, from my experience anyways, it says (in this example, the TWRP img file, for recovery),
"C:\HTCOneRoot>fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-m7.img
sending 'recovery' (8432 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.065s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 2.073s"
Really, I just want the stock ROM and for this all to be over. If someone could possibly help me, I'd love it. The phone is also AT&T, and the SIM card is disabled for the most part, it's an old phone from my (almost) uncle. As for the info I could get from fastboot:
"C:\HTCOneRoot>fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000

Sorry for the spam bit, please help? I'm honestly lost. If this problem does get resolved, and I'm honestly not sure it will, I'm also interested in a good, stable Lollipop ROM for my HTC One M7. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:

I re-locked the phone and I cannot get it to unlock again

Because you have relocked with a custom recovery installed. Unlocking the bootloader require the stock recovery to be installed.

Wls is Sprint phone. You can't flash WWE firmware on Sprint phone. Also, WWE mid is PN0721000, that's why you're getting modelid error

Good thing it did not worked. You have a M7_WLS (PN0720000) variant and you are trying to flash a M7_UL (PN0710000) firmware on it. Flashing a M7_UL firmware on your phone will brick it. Fortunately the MID check failed and it did not happened. Be extra careful when flashing files on a s-off phone. You want to flash files that are compatible with M7_WLS (Sprint HTC One) only, better to visit the Sprint HTC One forum. The sprint HTC One is a CDMA phone not the same as the GSM variant of this forum.

and after checking the sprint section, i feel like a dummy. I just upgraded to Viper 9.0, noticed a few bugs and someone mentioned latest firmware, & my search pulled up non sprint firmwares, should have known better, thanks for pointing it out.

Afaik, the latest sprint firmware is 6.23.651.7, the one currently installed on your phone is 6.23.651.6 so its not really old and should work fine imo. Since ViperOne is said to be compatible with sprint variant since version 8.0 it should work fine your phone. Make sure to flash it using the recommended recovery version (if any) and also that you are using a sprint compatible recovery to flash it, like twrp for sprint.
Otherwise it might only be some bugs not corrected yet by the dev, might worth reading the discussion and q&a section of the ViperOne to see if anyone is having the same bugs and finally asking in the rom thread.
Good luck :good:
Btw if you want to update the firmware, you can use the 6.23.651.7 RUU from htc website: http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
Remember that flashing a ruu will wipe everything from your phone, you'll have to reflash the custom recovery + custom rom after. Don't forget to backup your important data before flashing the RUU
