Stopped using the Official app and messenger.. because of the wakelocks.
I don't like using browser to use my facebook because no notifications, is there a good replacement app that doesn't wake lock and drain my battery by hours and hours like the stock one? I heard of Fast for Facebook and Atrium But Atrium has ads.. haven't tried fast yet, wanted a few more options.

I now use the browser for same reasons as you, hate the facebook app, but a long time ago I used another app that seemed better. I think it was called Friendcaster.

I have the newest facebook version just updated several days ago. I have never used the notifications feature but for some reason I am receiving notifications from the app now. I even tried enabling and disabling all of them to perhaps "re-write" the app setting but did not work.
Is this app broken?
Same thing is happening to me on my EVO.
Are they notifications of chat messages? Because I know they just added chat and I don't think you can shut those messages off.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
No, they are notifications from people replying to a Facebook post.
Lucky people! I wish that happened to me... :/

The app is definitely broken. I'm surprised this passed QC.
They are definitely Facebook notifications or email notifications from Facebook? Just asking because I'm not receiving any phantom messageswoth the notifications settings turned off..
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Mine are off as well and all I get is notifications that someone sent a chat message. You guys might wanna try uninstalling the update and then redownliading it

They are notifications for anything - reply to post, chat, etc. I think I may try re-installing the app.

QC? on Android? LOL. Even google doesn't do QC.
Not to mention FB hates Android, or pretty much anything Google. The FB App was so bad for so long, I'm surprised it has gotten as well developed as it has. At least now we're just about caught up to the iPhone app.
I like most others use many messengers so just would like users to share the best apps that can run multiple messengers n also good app for Facebook as the Facebook for a Droid app not only unstable but not as much freedom as using it on a browser

Seconded.
/10 char.
I vote Trillian as well. Only issue I have with it is it eats battery twice as fast than with it not running. I can't compare to other messengers though so this might be common for messenger apps. (yes, I have C2DM enabled)
BeejiveIM

i found beejive too pricey and it eats more battery. as for trillian eating your battery with c2dm checked i would try uninstalling the app clearing dalvik cache and re-installing
IM+ pro working really great for me .. much better than trillian or beejive

Is it just me or is the facebook app lagging really bad?
On older versions it was a little faster.
I'm using fasty rom.

Yep I do like the older versions the new one sucks.
I believe it has a memory leak. I've seen it climb up to 44mb of ram. I emailed the dev but never got a reply.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
It's an absolutely terribly coded app. It's basically the web interface with terribly memory management issues. It's hit as high as 55MB of RAM usage on my phone. I recommend just making a bookmark to the mobile sit and using that through the browser. It's essentially the same experience until we can get a decent Facebook app
Also the notifications are a joke.

Try these instead
a wrapper for the mobile site, really good overall.

Replacement app, UI is not amazing but at least it works!

Yeah the Facebook App has always been extremely slow for me. Takes upwards of 30+ seconds to sometimes refresh news feeds or to change sections. I've opted to use the mobile site version instead now... and guess I'll give friend caster a try!

No it deffinatly still lags. Even the newest version is slow. Sometimes I prefer just logging on through my browser.

It rarely notifies you, which is extremely annoying.
Facebook app is one SORRY A$$ excuse for an app...i really don't understand how they have that many people working and the updates just kept getting worse and worse...now it's just a huge battery hog and doesn't even do what it's supposed to properly...all those negative comments in the reviews and they just lie complacent as if nothing's going on....i swear it's a ruse by Zuckerberg showing favoritism to Apple probably...a-holes
Thanks for the TIP on the Friendcaster. that works very fast. now adding to my tablet as well.
One other tip I'd offer is looking into Tinfoil for Facebook. It's essentially just a cached, Sandbox'd version of the mobile site, but there's a dedicated app for it, and it does run fairly fast on my phone!
Friendcaster is lightyears faster and more efficient than the Official Facebook App.
The facebook app is utter crap. Way too slow!! Better off using the browser.

Hello. As the title says - I'm tired of tens of megabytes of RAM being used silently in background by this insanely frustrating app.
I already managed to completely delete Facebook Inside Xperia to prevent any unwanted wakeups but there's still something Facebook-related running in background related to a stock app...
Can any of you recommend nice and functional replacement for the stock Facebook app?
Cheers

Was just curious as to what messaging app most people was using and recommended. I like to find one that has pop up and possibly lock screen preview like the stock app. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

I love the stock messenger app, it has everything I need.
Go sms has pop up too if you prefer that.

For now, stock app until I find something I like better.
I was using Textra on my S3 but it didn't want to work well with kitkat so I went to hangouts. I think hangouts could be a really good app, but right now its terrible in the way its organized. Contacts are a mess to sort through, and every google account you have has the ability to send messages which makes things very difficult to manage if you end up sending messages from more than one.
I'm not a huge fan of the stock app...kind of ugly, but it works well.
I use Textra and I love it.
Thanks for the info. I will try out those. I liked the stock app but was getting lag using it. It want bad but bad enough to drive me nuts. Lol

I really liked the stock app until I imported all of my old texts from my I7777 and then the lag was unbearable. Nearly a 2 minute wait. Now I'm using Hangouts. Not as many features, but no lag.
Textra
EvovleSMS (this is the one I use)
HelloSMS
I tried all the popular ones...Go SMS, Textra, hello SMS, Hangouts, Evolve, etc. Hated all of them. I ended up sticking with chomp SMS. It's from the same developer that made biteSMS for the jailbroken iPhone, so I'm familiar with it. Plus, you can customize the theme to your liking. It has all the popular features: popups, quick reply/compose, delay sending, scheduled sending, privacy, etc.
Ever since my SGS 2, I always end up back with Textra. Black theme. Light, fast, actively developed and has all the necessary features. It's not overblown and just does it's job well.
I've been using Chomp for a long time and have been very happy with it. I've been trying out the stock messaging app for a few days, compared to past Samsung messaging apps, I'm impressed, but I'll probably be installing Chomp again soon...
Are there any messaging apps or themes for a messaging app that would make it flat? No matter how much I edit Chomp or Textra it just still doesn't look flat.

I use hangouts as my stock mainly because I can directly chat with my Google contacts. I have little reception where I live but still have WiFi so I can message my friends with android over a hangout instead of an SMS. I also very much like the layout and Android Emojis. I never liked textra, chomp, or handcent.

using stock messaging app here , rooted with twrp recovery , I have popup enabled when I get a msg and phone is locked (swipe to unlock set) I click the msg but then the phone lags at the lock screen ,and hangs. anyone else having problems with this ? or know a way to correct it ?
to get out of it I have to swipe to unlock then open up the messaging app it wont let me click the msg I got from the lock screen .
Was using ChompSMS but was getting a bit slow, switched to EvolveSMS but it's still really buggy, using Textra now. Slim, fast, quick reply / compose and not bogged down with tons of settings. Simple theme & emoji setup too. Be sure to download Textra emojis from app store.
since we are discussing the messaging apps, has anyone been getting random message alerts on old messages in the stock app? Phone was sitting on the counter last night charging and I heard it go off. Came out to find an alert for a message from tuesday that had already been read. Had this happen once before as well...alert on a previous read message. Never seen anything like it
From the sound of your needs, it seems like the stock app would suit your needs best. Why not use it? I don't really understand why some people seem to force themselves to use third party apps if the native ones work fine. :what:
