How to get root and a recovery? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just wondering if someone could help me out here. I would like to root, add a custom recovery, and then a custom rom. I have been browsing and reading these threads for a while and am still confused. I cant use flashtool because it says i dont have drivers installed but the driver package it says to use does not include the sp drivers. I am not sure exactly how i go about rooting this thing.

You need a Windows 7 PC, with Windows 8 its hard to install the ADB drivers.

I installed Sony PC Companion 2.1 then flashtool which is working. Never had to install any additional drivers on win7 x64 ult. Root with DooMLord's method, install CWM and later try custom roms. Dont forget to start with backing up your software to .ftf file and backing up what you find valuable.

i had to install the flashmode and flashboot drivers with my verification turned off in windows 8, got it to work!

How do I install the stock recovery?

I don't understand, I've download the stock recovery rar from here... http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.co.uk/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html "Download stock recovery 2.24.401.8"
I click install recovery and my phone is in fastboot and plugged in (obviously) but it just says waiting for device.
I cannot find the answer that fixes this anywhere.
Thanx.
Edit: I just get the message USB device not recognised when in fastboot.
Tried everything, installed drivers someone recommended for Windows 8 in device manager but I still have the yellow triangle.

I've all that but it still doesn't like fastboot.
I'm on a fresh install from when I put the custom recovery on but I've forgotten everything I needed to do for that, I just assumed I needed to run that exe in the download.
I'm on Windows 8 but not 8.1, I installed the custom recovery on Windows 8 before so I know it isn't an OS problem.
I tried downloading the google usb drivers in the sdk too.
Chances are if you look in Device Manager it won't be listed as an installed device. Once the drivers are installed correctly you'll be able to flash it
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (or whatever you've called the .IMG file)

I just cant get it to install for fastboot mode, it's fine when I'm in Android, just fastboot.
Nothing seems to work :\
Oh I just went back to Windows 7, it works now.
No OTA though :\ Guess It isn't released for stock HTC One yet :\
2.24.401.8 is the latest EU release, we're not on 4.3 yet

[Q] Flashing stock rom - stuck at flashtool

Hi,
I'm awfully sorry to bother you, but I'm really stuck.
Been using my XZ for over a year now. Everything stock.
I then unlocked the bootloader, rooted it and flashed the latest stable release of CM (didn't use the flashtool for any of this)
CM was totally fine for me except for the camera app.
So I searched the board for a ROM that is better suited for my needs and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-existenz-ultimate-1-0-0-light-dark-t2779949
And this is where my problems began -->
Flash official Sony's 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.74 or 10.3.1.A.2.67 with flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2162907)
Even after hours and hours of tying, I cant get this working.
What I did so far:
Installed flash-tool; java development kit, android development kit, adb & fastboot drivers (via several different methods)
Windows (Win 7 64 Bit) recognizes my device as Sony Sa0107 when connected in normal mode.
And it recognizes it as S1 Device when connected in fastboot mode.
So, when I start the flashtool and get to the point where flashtool prompts me to connect my device in fastboot mode this happens:
it says that it didn't recognize my device and I have to search for the device in a list. I click on the XZ entry and flashtool then gets stuck. Just shows the screen where it says you to connect in fastboot.
I even tried to create cwm flashable zip to get around using the flashtool...but this didnt work out..
Has anyone any idea what I could have done wrong?

Why are you trying to flash Flash official Sony's 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.74 or 10.3.1.A.2.67 with flashtool? If you are rooted and unlocked bootloader, you must have a custom recovery installed? I'm pretty sure that installing of an older official Sony firmware is mentioned at the installing instructions only to be able to root the XZ.
Try this:
1) Backup
2) Reboot to recovery
3) Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache
4) Flash the rom (existenz-ultimate)

Hi,
thank you for your reply.
Your version gets me stuck in a bootloop (cm logo).
I didn't need to install an older firmware, I was just using the Auto root files from doomlord “Z_DooMLoRD_CF-Auto-Root-ported_FW-350.img” & “Z_DooMLoRD_insecure_FW-350.img)
Did you wipe cache after flashing cm?
Thank you for your help.
I finally figured out what I did wrong.
I booted my phone in fastboot mode not flashmode (as it clearly stated by the flashtool ^^)
I guess I shouldn't have followed the guides so blindly.
Sorry for the double post, but I cant post in the existenz thread (not allowed to).
Is it possible to install a different theme for this rom (like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DIxMiwiY29tLm1hYy50aGVtZS5TaW1wbGV4LmJsdWUiXQ.. )
Didn't find an option in this rom
no as that's a cm11 theme and you are now on a stock based rom, have a look in the thread for themes, that's if anyone has made them

[Q] ADB on Lollipop for Xiaomi Mi3

Can anyone please guide me on how to install ADB drivers for Xiaomi Mi3 when running a custom Lollipop ROM. It doesnt seem to recognize any of the drivers when running lollipop. The Storage device and Fastboot detect fine. When i enable development options, windows cant install any of the drivers?
Am i missing a link somewhere or thats how its supposed to be?
Thanks in advance!
There's nothing different you have to do for Lollipop AFAIK. Just follow the tutorials for getting it working on MIUI or other ROMs...
I think you have to install MiFlash to install the drivers.

Problems with flashing / rooting

Hello,
english powered by google
I desperately my Xperia SP on Android is trying to switch 4.4. Unfortunately, most Totourials are useless, alone because very often missing files or they are just out of date.
After so many problems I managed to flash my Xperia. Unfortunately nothing had the desired effect due to the files.
Currently I have the following problem which I do not get resolved:
I have loaded with the Flash tool the Cyanogenmod bootfile via fastboot, earlier I had installed CWM course with USB debugging and deactivated Bootlock. ect.
Unfortunately, he did not start the CWM but the CyanogenMod and I did not have the possibility to install the ZIP file on the SD card. Instead, I've obviously just all deleted.
Currently I have no system, but only the CyanogenMod. A flash on Standart is suddenly no longer possible FAILED (remote: Download size too large). Even when I extracted the System.sin I had problems to start them in fastboot mode.
I had previously done with older files, unfortunately the installation was on the ZIP file in recovery mode error. Why I have updated the files and all programs.
Restoring the standard firmware previously ran flawlessly ...
So I really do not go on and am really desperate.
I very much hope that my one helps the more clueless than me.
Best regards,
Ben
So i assume you now have installed official sony firmware? If yes , and you have unlocked bootloader then all you have to do is install twrp recovery(TWRP recovery for Xperia SP), then download Custom rom(i.e Cyanogenmod-Cyanogenmod builds for Xperia SP), if you like also google apps(OpenGapps) and install trough recovery. It might seem difficult, i know i did not explain it very good but its late... If you have any question or you want me to write a tutorial how to install cyanogenmod step by step just tell me.
Edit: even if you cant access the system it will be easy to install cyanogenmod
Problem Solved:
Flashtool was the Problem. I used the newest Version. After a Downgrade to 9.8.16 it worked.
Thank You very much

Stuck in bootloop after trying to flash TWRP

SOLVED - See second post
-----------------------------------------
Hi there, I'm big trouble.
I have a F8131 with unlocked bootloader. The system was on the latest Oreo.
I tried to flash the latest TWRP using flashtool. After it finished, I get a bootloop, which goes through the unlocked warning to the Sony screen again and again.
What should I do now? Thanks to you all for helping in any way possible!
EDIT: I reflashed TWRP from command line using flashboot and now I can get to TWRP, but now it tells me there is no OS installed (WTF?), so if reboot I go back to the bootloop. Should I try to flash a rom from TWRP, is there something I am missing?
Luckily I was able to solve the issue. I will leave this here in case someone is stuck in the same situation.
1) Use Flashtool in flashmode to flash the FTF firmware you get from XperiFirm into the phone. If you get an error related to drivers, use the Flashtool drivers tool (located in a subfolder in the Flashtool installation folder) to install a set of working drivers (also applies to flashboot drivers).
2) After flashing, disconnect the phone and reconnect it in flashboot mode. Flash TWRP through fastboot commands in a cmd terminal. Flash a boot.img if you have one.
3) This should work, and you should be able to continue to boot your phone or get into TWRP to flash custom packages (Safety, DRM fixes, Magisk, etc) or ROMs.

About drm fix, is it the same file all phone could use? Or is it special, like TA images? I walk around xda, and somehow i am still not understand.

I used the one available at posts with tutorials for installing Kernel + TWRP + Roms for my device. I am not sure whether the drmfix is the same for all Sony Xperia devices.
Nevertheless, I don't think it worked for me, as my keys don't look like they have been recovered when I check them. I haven't noticed any problems so far, though, so maybe it's not a big deal.
