I don't know if its just me (got mine from staples) but my nexus doesn't seem as solidly built as some of the others' have been. The screen/glass is not completely glued down to the frame on one point on the left side, near the middle (portrait mode). Therefore, the screen sometimes creaks if I tap somewhere near the mid-left. Anyone else's like this? Should I send it back to replace?
Thanks

There have been so many posts about broken glass and mysterious breakage, etc. Because of this I feel it's only fair to have a thread where people can post close calls where the glass did not break.
Last night my phone feel off the top of a beauro onto cement! Was in my basement. When I heard it land I did not even want to pick it up because I was sure it was gone. I had just taken the case off to clean it after getting some dirty fingerprints on it. I had a flash back of reading all those broken glass threads.
I picked it up and I could not believe it! There is just a very small scratch that can barely be seen on the chrome bezel. The phone was laying on its face when I picked it up and was covered with dirt and sand. I was careful not to slide it at all and instead of wiping it I went into my garage and blew it off with the air compressor. I then cleaned it as I usually do with a lightly damp cloth, the ones you get for cleaning eye glasses.
I literally spent 15 minutes going over the glass and the entire phone under a bright light to look for damage and there is not a single scratch on the glass.
I am usually very careful but there have been a couple times I have had the phone in my pocket with keys and one time a metal flashlight even and still not even a small scratch on the glass.
I have had other phones and have had an iPod touch, other tablets without gorilla glass and all of them had very minor surface scratches that could be seen under light. This glass is durable and pretty awesome at stopping scratches.
I think one simple way any phone can be scratched though is either when cleaning or even using the phone with dirty hands. All it takes is some very small sand particles on your finger or on your even when you clean it. Make sire your hand are always clean and the screen too and you should have no problem with scratches. As for breakage, I have had 3 drops so far, 2 of them fairly bad drops so I guess it just depends on how it lands but overall I have found this phone very durable despite being made of glass.
Anyone else want to share?

Although the glass didn't break I think it's structure is somewhat damaged. In many drop test I have watched, it usually shatter at the third times.
Mine have dropped twice without damage to the glass but I think I better be careful from now on cause the third time may not be nice like the other two.

Yeah I saw that video a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. For it to basically be an all glass phone it held up well. That was the main reason I decided to just use a bumper instead of a back covering case. I figured if it can hold up to the back and side drop like that, a bumper should be fine for me (I'm not rough on my devices).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The front panel is mostly glass but the back is made out of plastic and covered in glass. What is amazing is if you take the phone apart you can see just how thin the rear glass is. Crazy thin!

Out of curiosity, which bumper are you guys using? I am using the official bumper btw.
I had kept my phone for charging on a table(unfortunately close to the edge ) about 1m in height . 3 missed calls later it was on the floor(tiled floor) and I heard the sound when it fell down. It was on its back with the front facing up and I thought it had cracked for sure. Turned it around to see no damage at all no dents on the chrome too . all I had on the phone was the glass protector for the back that comes with the phone.

... All the negative posts here about fragile glass are from Apple shills spreading FUD.
Every time a new nexus model arrives, there is a flood of suspiciously similar complaints threads that have no real bearing on reality. However it usually does the trick and achieves their aim.
I have dropped mine a couple of times from a couple of feet up and I have no serious damage to report.

I was lucky too. I just got to my girl friends house and had my nex4 on top of my nex10. I had placed them on top of a table on a balcony in the second floor of her house. Her little sister came running and grabbed my nex10 and the nex4 that was on top flew away to the ground from the second floor. And absolutely nothing happened to it. Maybe cus it landed on grass. But still there where rocks that it could gotten really badly damaged.

my phone also took a nice hit, the diztronic hard shell cracked right open. not a single scratch on the phone!
Wow!! Your n4 was mating with your n10 and took a drop from the second floor!! You are so lucky it landed on grass.

It seems that it is an issue. I have the silver and its very minimal and isn't an issue for me. I've since ordered the black as a replacement (wanted black in the first place) and is much worse and not acceptable to me, and the top speaker grill has 3 scratches on it so I called sprint and they are processing an order to replace the black.

I think its a lack of quality control. Some are flush, some aren't. If it bothers you, you may want to see about exchanging it and be sure to point out that you believe it is a manufacturer's defect (this will be key in avoiding the Sprint restocking fee assuming you bought from Sprint). Another thing to consider is that if you intend to put a screen protector on the device, screen protectors only cover the glass and not the speaker grills. Therefore the "nick" you describe will be present even if you have a flush screen because the screen protector will create a non-flush edge (and the "nick" will be even larger if you apply it to your current device).
batch problem maybe, lack of quality control.
I have the opposite issue at the bottom. The screen appears to be sunken in ever so slightly on the sides, while the speaker is flush with the sides and its flush at the top. I can feel it somewhat, but this is my second unit after a dead pixel replacement so I'm probably going to roll with it because the replacement could have bigger issues.
Just picked mine up today. Also noticed the left side of the screen isn't completely flush. The right side is a little closer, but the left side is the worst.

Got my Black replacement yesterday. Very slight raised glass on the top left but it's so minimal I'm not going to complain. I guess 3rd ones a charm. Just sucked dealing with Sprints telesales dept for 2 weeks trying to get a acceptable device.
I'm upset they rushed this phone out without thoroughly looking over It better.. I got the unflush screen, the gap up top.. argued with a sprint rep today about the gap and he opened a new HTC and it had the same problem.. so another rep said the gap is for better antenna signal lol

My HTC one also has a raised screen on the entire top side but the bottom side is flush and everything else about the build quality is good. Eventually, it started bothering me and I ordered a replacement phone (wirefly.com and within my two weeks). The replacement phone had the same problem and it also had a huge gap between the aluminum and white plastic (which my original didn't have). So I ordered another replacement phone and this time the screen is raised on the left top side and lowered on the top right side meaning it's slanted in reference to the body of the phone. And there's a smaller gap between the aluminum and white plastic. I feel like this is going to be an endless cycle. What should I do?
I love the phone but this is bad quality control on HTC's side.

Right now, its pretty much luck of the draw as to if you can get a flush one or not. I guess it will also depend on how much patience you have as to how many times are you willing to do an exchange. Also, just realize that if you do finally get a unit with a flush screen, if you put a screen protector on it, it will only cover the glass and not the speaker grills. This means that the screen protector will then create an edge/lip at the top and bottom of the glass panel so again, it will not feel flush/smooth due to the screen protector.

I don't use a screen protector so that's not a problem. I just want a good phone. How is that I can get three phones that look completely different in build from the same company? That just seems so odd to me and looks bad on HTC's side. I feel like if this is going to be an endless cycle, I might make the switch to a different phone.

I've had three black HTC Ones and all had the same issue of the screen not being flush with the speaker grills. The issue was definitely not corrected in the black version.

I also got frustrated with HTC quality control issues and some of the software choices they made in Sense 5 and so I am currently trying out a Galaxy S4 (haven't decided if I am going to keep it yet). Its not quite as snappy as the One but its acceptable to me as far as speed goes. No real quality control issues I've noticed and enjoying all the features Samsung has packed into this device. Both devices are great but each has its tradeoffs.
Hello everybody! I do not know where to begin but hope this forum.xda-developers.com will be useful for me. warmest regards from annonce escorte - www.goldendolls.com
I've searched the web daily to see if any defects arise but I've seen only one.
Battery life depleting rapidly
Besides that defect. What are other defects I should look out for that you have seen, heard of, or have/had with your moto x.
Also I've heard that the plastic around the screen grabs TONS of scratches because its glossy plastic(right?). One said after a month receiving a notable amount. Another zero to hardly any after a month.
I just want to know what to look out for when I get it. I'm gonna grab one when the Moto Maker is available for Verizon. I own the Galaxy Nexus and I know there are GNex vets in here that know the issues and defects of the Gnex. I have several HORRIBLE defects with my nexus and I wanna make sure I know what to look for when I get my X.
I am stock rooted and have had absolutely ZERO issues. Not a single random reboot, no battery drain, nothing. Google and Motorola took their time with this phone and it shows. No idea what people are doing to their phones to cause some of these issues. As far as the corners and edge of the screen scratching, I haven't seen anyone else mention that, and mine has been out of a case the majority of the time I have had the phone. The edge of the screen is not plastic. One big advantage to this phone is the fact that the Gorilla Glass 2 that is equipped with wraps around the device.
Its GLASS???? How did I not know! I follow this device closely on XDA and the Web.

A moto x. You can see quite clearly with the white face that it's just a normal pane of Glass that does not wrap around anything. And the right edge of mine where the glass meets the plastic is not set right and you can pull the plastic bezel to the side

I'd be willing to bet money it doesn't. On the left side of my screen you can't detect any joint where the plastic and glass meet. Multiple web sites have also confirmed that it's not the "magic glass" that was first reported but a very well put together phone. Look up the Ifixit tear down

It's definitely plastic around the edge. I love my moto x... but I'm really disappointed the sides have gotten scratched.
The scratches aren't huge issue, but I'm sad because it's the snap case that I purchased from Motorola that's caused them. The way the case snaps into place, there's actually a small gap where dirt/sand/whatever can get stuck inbetween the phone and the case. And if you take your phone out of the case while there's something there.... it will definitely leave a mark.
Another issue I've noticed is that on the back near the dimple, there's a small section my case doesn't cover.. and there's some discoloration going on there. It looks like the plastic has been absorbing finger oil and it now has a bit of a glossy sheen that won't come off.
Got a moto X from ebay with a vibration motor that rattles too much, it actually makes noise when typing. My other Moto X's vibration felt normal. I believe i've read somewhere that the Moto X's vibration motor is attached in some way that's not optimal, and from experience some Moto Xs are better than others at vibrating.
Other gripes with my Moto X:
-Activate Notifications: I keep getting the flashing clock while driving (Which should only happen when you pick up the phone.) It makes me think there's a new notification, when there actually isn't. Quite annoying while driving actually. (I keep it on my lap)
-Battery seemed better on my other Moto X.
-Headphone output seems a bit low. Higher than my nexus 4 and lower than my GS3.
Of course nearly everything else is delightful about this phone. Specially the screen and the deep blacks which complement a black-front nicely. Also surprisingly good accuracy with touchless controls.
Thank you guys for your answers. I've also seen around here lint/dirt can be stuck underneath the lens of the camera right out of the box.

first phone was perfect. second phone.... hollowish vibrating motor and like you... i think my battery isnt as good. i still get a day plus. but my first one was getting 36 hours plus. i dunno what carrier you are one. but i am contributing the worsened battery life to the update.

Hi, I'm contemplating buying this phone. I know it's dust-tight but does that mean the electronic internals are, or everything, including the screen? I know Super AMOLED and Super Clear LCD have no air gap so can't get dust under the touch panel but I've seen an S4 Active in the "flesh" and I saw gaps round the bezel of the phone where the glass meets the plastic (like every Samsung I've had) and I worry that dust might get in there and under the touch panel (into the actual LCD). Anyone every had a dust problem with this?
