My chromecast died so I returned it. - Google Chromecast

After a week and a half of using the chromecast, it broke. Was streaming a tab and everything was discolored and pixelated, tried turning it off and it wouldn't come back on, after letting it sit it came back on put after 20 seconds screen went black and it had verticle bars. Something was seriously messed up. I will just wait until the kinks are worked out before I buy another one. Anyone else have this happen?

I had that. It broke 2 hours after unboxing. Then it wouldn't even boot (no signal). RMA with Amazon took a while (back in launch day).

G1 screen suddenly has dead spot. Do I need a new screen?

Apart from some sound issues that were resolved, my G1 was working perfectly until now. I installed some apps then turned off the phone. A while later, I come back to the phone and turn it on but now the upper half of the touch screen won't respond. It was working fine just 30 minutes ago! What can I do? Do I have to get a new screen for it?

I have had the second part of your problem before where screen doesn't come on but the back light and everything else works. A couple of months back when I was at college I dropped my phone really hard at a party( I was wasted ) and the next morning the screen wouldn't come on. So what I did was I looked up the guide to how take the X1i apart and luckily one of my buddies had the same screwdrivers that I needed because he uses it on his the Blackberry Storm 2. So what I did was went to where the Flex ribbon cable was located unattached it, then reattached it, and put my phone back together and the screen came back on and still works to this day. If this helps press thanks.

Moisture Under Glass

I've seen some threads about this on other tabs, like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but not on the Asus tablets yet. On my TF701T, I noticed over the past month that when I take it out of the case I have for it (a neoprene case with a zipper), it has a spot in the middle about the size of two quarters that looks like moisture under the glass.
Within a few seconds of turning it on (and sometimes not even turning it on), it disappears by quickly getting smaller and smaller into the center.
All of this, not a big deal.
However, last night I saw something even more odd....the spot disappeared with the exception of a ring of moisture (instead of a full circle) that stayed and wouldn't go away (again, slightly larger than a quarter). Touching parts of the screen would jiggle the ring. It seems like something was happening in the LCD display.
In the past when it went away, I assumed the screen was warming up and causing it to go away. However since it didn't this time, I thought something was damaged.
I saw a bizarre thread somewhere that suggested to put it in the fridge or freezer for a short time and the cooling would make it go away....if I remember correctly, it may have implied that the LCD and digitizer where touching or stuck together. I figured, what the heck, I stuck it in the freezer for a few minutes. When I got it out, it was nice an cold, and the spot was gone.
Has anyone seen this? Anyone know anything about what this would occur and why the cold would fix it?
Thanks,
chris
I had exactly the same issue you described. The moisture spot would always go away eventually. However, one day, while in use, the screen suddenly died. The tablet was still working fine (confirmed with an hdmi cable). I was unlocked, so the tablet became useless. I have no idea if the moisture and screen failures were related or not, but if you are not unlocked, I'd probably try to get it repaired.
I suspect that what you and I have is a gap between the LCD and the digitizer. We have (3) tf701t's in our house now and no moisture spots yet on any of them.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, good to know. I am unfortunately already rooted and running sbdags rom. It is interesting that it only happens when I have had it in the case for a little while. Hadn't happened again for about a week, but started happened again last night. Fortunately, it went away on its own again very quickly. Oh well, it is what it is.

I have also noticed the same spot after pulling my tablet out of the neoprene case. I have been getting itchy to root but now I will hold off. Maybe I should try the freezer fix?
Thanks for post!
ASUS Tf701 moisture ring center of glass
I had this happen in the past, but it always went away when I turned the tablet on. I always store it in a leather case, the screen never touches anything. It recently came back and will not go away. I've been reading threads about putting it in the freezer for a short time....my question is, how long have people left it in there, 2 minutes, 5 minutes? The spot is driving me crazy since it now won't go away.
Thanks for your assistance!

I have the same problem with my TF701T. But I noticed it isn't moisture between the screen but digitizer and the LCD screen touching eachother? If you bend the tablet really slightly towards you, you'll see the "moisture" go away. Don't have to apply too much force. Might be just design flaw IMO.

I think I broke my phone :/

TLDR: I was cuddling my gf to sleep while using my phone. I fell asleep too. The phone was in bed with us for a couple of hours, but I don't think either of us lay on it, though my gf may have put some weight on it while getting up from bed to go to the w/c.
This morning it was unresponsive to touch, after rebooting it twice it won't turn on at all
When I press on the screen 1/3 of the way down with a bit of force, I feel it moving a bit and I can hear and feel a click on the inside.
The glass is intact.
-----------
I fell asleep with the phone in my hand and I must have let go of it in my sleep. I woke up when my girlfriend was going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The phone was still in the bed near where my hand was when I was falling asleep, but it was also in the path of my half asleep girlfriend rolling out of bed. I checked to see if it was still alive by pressing the power button and the screen turned on. Satisfied, I put it on my nightstand and went back to sleep.
When I woke up this morning I tried using it. It wasn't responding to touch at all, not even the home row buttons. But the volume rocker worked and so did the power button menu, but I couldn't select reboot in the menu with the touch not working. I force closed it with power + volume up, and when it rebooted it still wouldn't respond to touch. I force closed it again and now it won't turn on at all. I tried numerous button combinations (power on + volume up, down, all three, holding for up to 20 seconds) and it doesn't respond to being plugged into the wall or to the computer either, no led light and it's not mounting on the PC. It had about 60% power left before force closing it.
The funny thing is is that I couldn't figure out what the cause was for a long time. I googled it and search results for Z1's "sudden death issue" appeared and I figured it was something like that. Or maybe it was a delayed effect of putting it underwater 2 days ago.
But then it dawned on me, it was (of course) what had happened in the middle of the night. The phone looks completely fine, but after examining it closer, when I press on the screen 1/3 of the way down with a bit of force, I feel it moving a bit and I can hear and feel a click on the inside. I wonder what that could be..
What are my options now? I got the phone just a couple of days ago. I doubt this is covered by warrenty right? User error?
I'm not sure if this is even the real cause though - I didn't see it happen.... but I guess it's the most logical explination.
My girlfriend is pretty small so I'd imagine she would have had to put all her weight on her hand or elbow when she was getting up to be able to break the phone like that. I have a foam mattress which probably absorbed a lot of the weight? If this is indeed the case, I'm a little disappointed in the build quality if this broke something in the phone's innards with relative ease.
Any advice would be appreciated. It's the UK model bought outside of the UK from a local retailer. This is my first good smartphone and I loved it for the short time we had together. I'm devistated about it and not really sure what to do next.
Someone hold me
No visible damage = return it as faulty
Just say it died overnight while charging.

Thanks, that's the plan I just emailed the seller
Edit: They said to go to a Sony store to claim warrenty on it

You should have a 14 day guarantee with the seller if you bought from UK..
I would go back to them and demand a replacement..

So I was just about to go to the sony store, I had the phone, cables and everything neatly packed up an ready to go. I decided to give it one last try just in case to avoid the all too common scenerio when it unexplicably magically starts working in the store. I plugged it into a wall charger and held down the power button and the red light turned on! I left it for a minute and then pressed the power button again, and the screen turned on with a battery charging logo! It looked like the battery was fully dead so I left it for 5 minutes and turned it on again. It booted up! Now the moment of truth: will the touch screen work....
Drum roll......
It does!
Everything works normally now. I have no idea wtf happened but I'm really happy that I don't have to deal with sending it in and everything.
Though I'm a little worried about what the screen clicking is, that's still there.
I'll post a video later and might take it in to sony anyway to see what they say
Edit: I made a new thread with the video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/video-pressing-screen-spot-makes-t2918289

Glad to hear it
I have the same phone symptoms as OP. Except, I was using the phone just 15 minutes before it refused to turn on. Also, for the first time I noticed the glass making a clicking sound when pressing coming from the middle of the screen, inline with the power button. I`ve tested the phone before and never heard this clicking sound.
At this point, even if the phone fixes itself, I`d rather send it in for repair before the clicking turns into a screen fracture.

Hi
A month ago my screen suddenly went completely dead, the phone it self was functioning normally except the screen, \
so i posted this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/how-to-make-screen-dead-t3175115
then i decided to tear down the phone, i did and i played abit with the lcd flex cable, i got the screen to work but with very low brightness and a lot of blinking, i played a bit more with the same cable
and tried powering up the phone, the screen gone completely black again so i thought i broke the cable

Maybe something not connected, or because it's aftermarket screen. There are lots of screens for sale but I don't believe they all work as good as the OEM screen.

Did you ask the seller to exchange the item? There is always a 10% chance of a black screen when buying a replacement screen.
If you tested the screen by just connecting it to the motherboard, and it didnt work, you should be able to get a replacement for free(but you will probably have to pay for the shipping when sending the broken one back)
By the way. I need to get a new screen replacement(the current one started flickering and glitching after 5 days of usage-I literally held the phone on the desk, answering calls and putting it back on the desk,so I couldnĀ“t have damaged it),but I cant waste money. Was the package in a good state?
If anyone can recommend a cheap, but working screen(I dont care much about the 10% weaker colors,I just dont want the screen to flicker and glitch out),I would be extremely grateful.
