You could either factory reset, or, depending on the method you used, you could unroot through the SU app itself.
I think super one click would work... but flashing the stock rom would be the best solutuon.... dont forget to press thanks if i helped....

Hello...
i am thinking of rooting my phone , for any reason if i want to factory default restore the phone is that restoring will disable the rooting or that rooting will be permanent ?
thanks a lot...
The only permanent thing you can do is unlock the bootloader.
Rooting, or any other change can usually be undone...

Root will be available after a factory reset, rooting apps mostly come along with unroot functionality.

Basically, once rooted, you can change the ROM on your phone to any compatible one you can find, including the original one...

Glad to know. Next time you get stuck, please post your question in the "Questions" sub-forums
I have arhd Rom which is perfect for me as it has all the bloat stuff removed, but I need an unrooted version so that my work email client and Sky Go will run. Is there a way to completely unroot? I tried removing superuser, busybox and Su but Sky Go and work email still complain that my phone is rooted ? Thanks for any guidance.

Ultimately you need to install a stock RUU/ROM.zip. What you have to do before that depends on if you have S-OFF via Revolutionary or an unlocked HBOOT.

But I don't want a stock Rom, and I don't want to loose CWM recovery either, I just want to unroot my customised Rom, is it possible ?

Nope. I did tried to unroot (unproper) by deleting the superuser apks in /system/app. I did that on my friend's galaxy ace. But his phone is stock.Try deleting /system/bin/sh too.

Yes, use SuperSU, check the settings.
Now I just bought an Incredible S and I want to root it and install a custom ROM but it seems as though HTC seems to hate devs and there are tons of crap blocking it so I was wondering how exactly do I root it?

There are multiple guides on XDA. I made one myself its in my sig
Compared to other phones, this phone is actually quite the headache to root and achieve S-OFF

Power off the phone and then hold the Volume Down key while pressing the Power button. This will boot you into the bootloader screen which lists the HBOOT version, the lock status and the radio version.

This is a very reliable guide. I used it first before achieving S-OFF. I would recommend S-OFF over just root though. Allows you to flash kernels, radios, splash screen, anything.
S-off -> root -> custom rom

errr... root and s-off are entirely different things. I looked at this thread in phandroid forums, and according to it, root just gives you superuser permissions. It gives you the ability to flash things to your phone, custom ROMs. However, when you root your phone, the Radio NVRAM section of the phone prevents you from completely overwriting system partition or at least from changing it. With S-OFF, you flash a custom HBOOT which gives you the ability to overwrite this system partition or in other words, literally do whatever you want to your phone.
I know. Not all of the custom rom require s-off. I suggest to him to s-off -> root -> the install custom rom. Forgot to put i suggest

Disclaimer: Flash this ROM at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do on your device. I left this stock to provide a base for anybody that wants to use it. Mod this rom how you want. Just please remember to give credit where credit is due.
This is a pure stock rooted rom. It has items like busybox, init.d support and so forth. No apps were added or removed. Both Odexed and Deodexed versions below.
This is using stock unmodified kernel from HTC. Kernel source can be grabbed from HTCDev

There are few zip's. Could you please advise me which one should I flash? Thanks.

Thank you for reply. Downloading it now. Then I'll do SIM unlock.
P.S. I hope we will see some custom ROM's (even kernels, huh) soon. I've got my HTC First for $190 on eBay and it's real bargain. Best 4.3" phone for that price on market.
just won a first in a contest hopefully we can get some dev work here

BTW I had no success with deodexed version. My phone was trying to boot then it went to recovery (bootloop?). Odex works just fine.

Yes that's due to system protection in the kernel. Can't fix it till HTC releases kernel source. If you want to remove something you have to do it in recovery

Huh. Lost root somehow. I'm running the odexed rom, since I wanted to install over the stock rom that shipped with it. Flashing SuperSU from recovery's not working to get root back. Ideas?

Well, I had root no problem after flashing the odexed rom until today. Bizarre. Maybe I'll just reflash the rom over and see if that fixes it.

Looks like HTC First is discontinued. No idea if they have any plans to release kernel or Android updates. Do you have any information about?

Has anyone that flashed 1.08 either manually or via actual OTA lost LED function? Like doesn't show for charging or notifications?
EDIT: nvm. They put an option to turn it on and off in display settings

That option was there before too, but it reset it to "off" after updating. It's off by default in the shipped rom too, for some odd reason.
