[Q] Nook HD+ dropping WIFI on CM10.2 - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I've been poking around but haven't found a decent answer to this issue. I have 2 Nook HD+ running the latest nightly of CM10.2 on EMMC and ever since mid August (when I first went to 10.2 I suppose) I've had an issue of the WIFI data connection dropping. It usually happens after the tablet has been sitting a while. The Nook shows a good WIFI connection, but when I go to do anything I have no internet connection.
Resetting the wifi on the Nook fixes it 100% of the time. It's not a deal breaker, but it's pretty annoying. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a setting in my router I could tweak to help things? Other devices seem to be ok. I have a NETGEAR WNDR 3700. Thanks!

Same problem here on both an HD and HD plus, CM 10.2 EMMC, on two different routers. No issues on a Nexus 7.

I tried CM10.2 (milestone, not nightly) on my Nook HD and either wasn't able to get a wifi connection, or wasn't able to maintain a wifi connection once connected.

I tried the milestone and the latest nightly yesterday, but I had to go back to 10.1 to have usable wifi. I couldn't download anything without the connection dying about 5% of the way in, and restarting wifi doesn't fix it.

Wifi is killing me

I got my Nook yesterday and have been pleased with it up until now. I spent all day yesterday 2 feet from my router, with not problems but his morning I got up and took it downstairs and my wifi connection was weak, 1 bar or no bars was all I was getting. I took it back upstairs and even 2 feet from my router i'm only getting 2 bars. If I take it out my computer room the connection goes down to 1 bar or I loose it completely. Every other wifi device I have (android phone, laptop) work fine, no issues inside or outside my house. Just wondering if this is common or if I should consider returning my nook and getting another one.
EDIT: I have also rooted the nook.

Rooting should not have caused the problem, but it's pretty easy to go back to stock and check it. Also, have you updated to v1.01? It's supposed to have some fixes for wifi. Lastly let us know what router you are using, some have reported wifi problems with some specific routers.
I did the 1.0.1 update, I'm thinking of going back to stock and checking. My router is a D-Link WBR-2310 firmware 1.02
What is this the best way to un-root and reset the nook?
I just unrooted and reset my NC to 1.0.0. The wifi is still weak when i'm not in my computer room but it did stay connected with the little testing I did. I updated to 1.0.1 and while it was just as week the wifi didn't stay connected all the time. I don't really think the update made a difference. So now i'm not sure what to do, i've tried a few differnt settings on my router but didn't have any luck. Anyone have any idea's?

D-link routers have been problematic for many people and Nook users particularly report the 615 as a problem for them (not your model) ... perhaps an easy way to check is to go to the nearest free wifi location and try to connect. That should tell you quite a bit. If the signal is acceptable at the free wifi spot, then you need to fiddle with the router (or replace); if the wifi is still weak/not connecting at a KNOWN good wifi spot then I would go back to B&N for a replacement.
I just called BN and they said to bring it in. On my way there i'm going to swing by hotel with wifi and see if I can get a signal in the parking lot. If I can then I'll save my self the trip. What are some good known routers?
I love my Netgear WNDR3700 with DD-WRT.
Good news, turns out it was defective. I pulled into the parking lot and couldn't even get a signal on there wifi. Got into the store, went over to the NC area and was checking out some of the display models, pulled up the wifi and they had a list of 15-20, mine had 5, and all with 1 or 2 bars. The girl was real nice, no problems, at all, she saw the difference in mine vs the store model, checked to see if I had updated then gave me a new one. Now I got a new NC and ready to root!

Cant connect to wifi hotspot

I'm using the stock Tmobile wifi Hotspot app on my phone to have wifi on vacation. I can connect my laptop to it no problem. I'm on it now. But after the first night, my Nook can't find it. It scans but won't connect at all. I'm using CM nightly 142. It had previously been working, but when I put my Nook to sleep so I could sleep, it didn't work the next day. I had been running 7.1rc1 and even tried flashing to the new nightly, thinking maybe it was a problem with the rc1, but I didn't wipe anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Nook HD+ CM 10.1 Bluetooth tether issues

I recently picked up a Nook HD+ and I put verygreen's native emmc CM 10.1 on it and it runs absolutely awesome. I have this build cm-10.1-20130801-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-emmc.zip on it.
Last night I was at work and I was trying to tether it to my stock (rooted) Motorola Photon. I usually run android-wifi-tether to hook up my laptop for some wifi but the nook would not even see the wifi signal.
So I decided to give the bluetooth tether a try and aftr I paired them and ticked the check box on the nook to use it for an internet connection I was surfing away on 3G with no issues.
Well 4G is limited in my area (Sprint) but I only get it at work. So I sync up my nook to my phone and turn on 4G on my phone and while everything looks good I cannot get an internet connection on the Nook. Internet works just fine on my phone in 4G but nothing on the nook. If I turn 4G off the Nook connects to the internet just fine.
So odd...... does anyone have any ideas that can help?

After I first run cm11, I come across this bluetooth problem the same as you. But when I reboot my HD+, ths tether return to normal.
I don't mean to introduce any more trouble, but why not upgrade your version of CyanogenMod to CM 10.1.3 stable from: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=ovation&type=stable
The stable version should be capable of pairing bluetooth seamlessly; just ensure you install CM10.1.3 and NOT CM 10.2. If you install CM10.1.3, you'll be on the same version of Android, and you won't need to reinstall Gapps. Plus a few users stated that they ran into bluetooth pairing issues with CM10.2.1.
Of course, if you want to upgrade to CM10.2.1 you can do; it's your choice. If you do, make sure you install the correct Gapps version.
All the best. Please let us know if installing a stable build solves your problem.

Constantly having to reset WIFI - Hardware issue?

I thought this was a CM 10.2 problem so I reverted back to 10.1 final and am having the same issue. My Nook will display that it's connected to wifi but when I try to load anything I get nothing. The only way to solve it seems to be to turn wifi off and then on. When I let it sit for a while and come back to it I have to do the reset again. Is there something wrong with my hardware or is this a common problem? It's happening on two of my Nooks. Thanks.

If it does it on both CM10.1 and CM10.2, sounds like a router problem to me.

But why just the Nooks? Everything else is fine on my router to include two Android phones.

not sure but ya one of the wifi protocols maybe "N" is a problem if its enabled.
Do a google search for Nook HD+ wifi disconnecting and you'll find which one
you need to disable on your router.
Mine did that as well, so I disabled that one protocol and its been ok
ever since.
Or it's a CM problem. I switched to Carbon and the problem seems to have gone away. Disabling n is not an acceptable solution, at least not to me.

I tried assigning the Nooks a. Static IP but that didn't help. I suppose that I could bump my 2.4ghz network down to 54mps Max, but I dislike that solution.

Wifi disconnects
Was there a solution to this? My nook hd+ running CM11, version 11-20140403-NIGHTLY-ovation.
My Wifi disconnects intermittently. For example, I might be connected for 10 minutes, and then it just stops working. I have gotten used to having a terminal open pinging my gateway or AP. Latency is typically 2 to 4 ms, but jumps to 90, then 200, then timeout. I have to toggle Wifi or airplane mode to get it to reconnect.

As far as I know there isn't. I just updated past the April 13th cm11 build (which I thought I did before but didn't *smacks head into wall*) which fixes a wlan bug and am checking to see if that works right now as I have had the issue on two cm11 devices.
However, I noticed my wifi Access Point has been seeing power failures so unsure if that's related at this time.
I'm not sure of it being the router or ap as one device may be working while one won't be so its possible its cm.
It might be possible to use an app like 'wifi fixer' (I think it can do that) to automatically toggle wifi on/off, to fix it as a workaround. Not at that point in testing yet.

I have a similar problem with WiFi on my HD+ running CM 10.2.1, but not exactly the same. In my case, we have two wi-fi access points (i.e., two routers) in the house on different channels. I stay connected 100% on whichever I first connect with. But over time, the HD+ stops scanning, and doesn't see the other router. (Or the neighbors' wi-fis.)
I remembered seeing something about this with CM when I first joined the forum - the solution is to turn wi-fi off and then on. It rescans, and everything is okay again.
I wonder if it has something to do with the "Wi-Fi optimization" option, that "minimizes battery usage on Wi-Fi." But I haven't tried disabling that. Guess I'll do it now and report in a few days if it makes a difference.

Hmm, that is interesting. I have a single router but running two instances, a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band. Both have the same SSID and pass phrase. I just wanted to make it easier for systems that supported both bands to jump back and forth.
I think I will change the SSID of the 5Ghz band and make them truly separate networks.
Thanks for the feedback.

[Q] Wifi Problem after CM11

Hi All, I've searched around and can't find threads that are exactly what I'm experience, so I'm hoping this is something the community can help with. I've been experiencing this problem since flashing CM11 a few months ago. My wifi has no problem searching and connecting, but intermittently while on wifi, I'll notice that I'll only send data and not receive it. Waiting 15-30 seconds will usually have it come back, or disabling/enabling will also fix it, but it's never consistent. I notice when the phone is plugged in, the wifi connection stays pretty good.
Just to clarify, I am not losing the wifi signal and the phone stays connected to the network. This happens in all kinds of wifi (whether home or work). Any help would be appreciated!

I dont know if its the same in CM11 but in stock rom you have some wifi options to reduce battery usage, maybe turning them off could help? If not you should make a nandroid baclup of your current setup and flash another rom temporarily to see if the issue persist. Btw are you using a stable build of CM11 or nightly builds? If you are using nightlty builds, you might want to try with a stable version.
Is this always happening when using routers of the same brand? I already had this kind of issue but it was with my One X not my M7. The only way I was able to use the wifi without making the routers hang (every d-link router) was to turn off the N band (5Ghz) and only use the 2.4 Ghz bands (a/b/g). Maybe it worth a try... but I never heard of this issue for the M7.

I tried the Wifi optimization option and it's the same performance. I'm using a stable build of CM11 and wanted to see if there's something I'm missing before flashing again.
I'ts a little bit difficult to tell which routers this happens with, as I can recall only having consistent wifi traffic once in the past 3-4 months. I've switched back and forth between 2.4ghz and 5ghz on my home router to the same issue as well.
Thanks for the suggestions...may just have to resort to a new ROM...
