Hello everybody,
Actually I was planning to purchase new xperia device... according to my budget, I thought of going for Xperia SP.
The reason for this thread is .. Can I go for SP as I am getting it in 19000 INR from ebay.in.. It is worth to buy or should i go for ZR which is 8000 INR more than SP price..
Will SP be future proof for atleast a year and will it Honami style 4.3 update. or just a common 4.3 update.
What do you think guys please.. suggest me!!!
and about considering the problems SP users are facing.
I don't Know how much is this in €. But SP is a really good choice! Buy the SP!

Test the Camera before by XSP. Picture size and quality is no more up to date. Not poor, but other devices (XS or HTC one) make better pictures. All other works great.
Value for money phone
Since I own a Xperia SP for more than 2 months now, following are my impressions. Since I am being critical I'll list negatives first.
Negatives:
Xperia SP's biggest weakness is its camera. Pictures in low light are very bad for its price... pictures in day light are ok, but nothing too good. Pictures taken by SP have more noise in them. So over all SP's camera is very much worse as compared to, say, Galaxy S3's.
The screen is not as good as Super Amoled screens of Samsung's Galaxy series or HTC's & LG's IPS LCD. However, while indoors you will not have any issue. While outdoors, the screen is a bit reflective but is still manageable. I haven't faced any other display issue till now.
Wi-fi reception is truly a bit weaker than other phones, but the internet speed is not affected. Only range is lesser.
Some people have encountered the touch issue when the phone is kept on a table & not in your palm. Some people have also faced a bit of trouble while the phone is plugged in for charging via AC adapter. However, I haven't faced any of these issues.
Positives:
The best part about SP is its performance. Snapdragon S4 Pro is simply a beast and Adreno 320 GPU blows the competition out of water. Current flagships of various brands like Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro all have the same GPU.
SP has 1 GB RAM, which although is not equivalent to these flagships, is enough even for the heaviest of games/apps available in market. However, real racing 3 has some issues. Other games run very well.
Another plus point of SP is its build quality & design. It doesn't look cheap like Samsung GS3 or GS4. The illumination bar at the bottom is a very nice aspect of the design.
The battery performance of SP is one of the better ones.
When used with Bravia Engine 2, the display is awesome while indoors. It is sufficiently bright.
PRICE!!! A total value for money.
So, keeping all these in mind I would suggest:
If you are too much in cell phone photography, explore other mobiles. Galaxy S3 could be good choice in that case. Glaxy S4 mini and Nexus 4 are also there. However, all these cost slightly more than SP.
If 20K is your budget, then go for SP. You won't find a better phone at that price.
If you don't want even slightest of performance issue, surety of many more updates & have the extra budget then you can also give Xperia ZR a serious thought. It has a faster processor, more RAM & better camera in addition to being dust & waterproof. Battery life of ZR is even better than SP's.
Pretty much agree with the post from the_helix.
I think Sony have been clever with this device, they have taken away the things that average/practical users don't really care about.
Do you really need 400+ PPI, 1080p screen, a big internal memory if there's space for a memory card, more RAM etc? They have instead made sure that the processor is top notch, given it 4G and NFC - so you get almost flagship performance at half the price.
Yes some things could be better (there is always something to complain about - the S4 and HTC One are not immune from this either), but with a bigger screen and more robust build than the competition in this price range (the mini S4 and mini HTC One) I think this is the best mid-range phone on the market.
I think it's future proof - but within reason, some games developers always push the boundaries and make software that will only run really well on top devices. I think/hope it will see the next iteration of Android - is it really going to be called kit-kat?
hi,
purchased today my xperia sp in ebay.in. waiting for delivery. so now i being here for have a glance. iam biggest fan of sony till now i used four mobiles from sony, ( J230i, w810, x8, mini pro). and this is my fifth from sony. hope this mobile will meet my expectations. will join u later guys after getting my sp in hands. cheers!

Hi there!
Recently bought an Xperia Z1 and i like it. But recently i have been experiencing some "odd things". Such as the whole phone just freeze, purple fringing in photos and camera starting very slow from Airplane mode. To some it might not sound much of a big deal and yes for me its not too big a deal but i fear it might not be the last time i will experience those issues.
My other fear from my Z1 is that the camera started to have mist inside as if to indicate the waterproofing ain't that tight and ain't that great. Then i heard about the Galaxy S4 Active. Now, i'm aware both phones came out last year although the Z1 seems to be the newer of the two with better specs, etc.
But i want to ask in terms of the ruggedness and better/tighter anit-dust and anti-splash (i.e. waterproofing) which you think does it better: Sony or Samsung?
Also, on another note which one you think still has another chance of an update to 4.4.2 or beyond?
Please advice. Thanks.

I have a S4 Active and am more than satisfied with its water-resistance capabilities.
Haven't you considered another water-resistant phone, like the Galaxy S5 or Xperia Z2?

I don't like Samsung phones because i think all their phones have become "premium" in terms of prices similar to Apple. They have too many bloatwares too. The Xperia Z2 is an amazing phone but like the S5 it's very new and still quite expensive.
So far the two phones that i had in the past 9 months is the G2 and the Z1 especially with battery life, performance, features, etc. the latter having an advantage because of its water-resistant properties.
But have heard the waterproofing on the S4 Active ain't too good and the camera is so weak & low-specced.
I also use a s4 active and live it! The official 4.4 update is also available since some days. Battery power is 2 days +, screen is great and its smooth like hell (I run cm11 on it)

Hi there,
I am looking for a new smartphone, as my current one (Xperia Z, 2 years) has a display damage and I think, replacing the display doesn't make any sense, as it would cost a lot.
I have these smartphones in my list:
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact
Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini
I would like to have:
A good battery life
A good camera
My maximum budget is 400€.
Thanks for helping me out
Which of these would You recommend?
If you want a powerful phone, stay away from the Samsung galaxy s5 mini.....Its nowhere near as strong as the Sony xperia z1/z3 compacts....tho its just my opinion...now to answer your real question, well first of all, are you picky on pricing? If so, go for the Sony Xperia Z1 compact since its pretty cheap nowadays with high specs. I used to own one but i sold it and now using a Sony xperia Z2 which is pretty good i guess. If you not too picky on pricing, then go for the Sony Xperia Z3 compact. Personally, the camera on both the compacts are pretty much the same......if you really want a legit answer, check out reviews between the compacts on google. As for best battery, Z3 compact is obviously the winner. Its known to be the king of battery.......If i had to recommend which phone is right for you, just go for the Sony Xperia Z3 compact, you won't regret it. Also there is a pretty nice deal for the Sony xperia Z3 compact but be aware that the deal is gotta end very very soon. Its on eBay, i will give you the link:

Thank you for your constructive answer!
I will buy the Z3 Compact. ^^

Don't get your hope up. It's very likely that Z1 will stay with 5.1.1. Sony said nothing about M for Z1 series (unlike Z2, Z3 series got confirmation) so indeed there might be a tiny chance Z1 series will get M but like I said, it's just a tiny chance.
Here in Serbia this cellphone is not cheap, its expensive. And its a dump idea to stop suporting. Its my think....

It's not matter of price, it's old and I think the phones that are people still buying are already made and just from big stocks. Our phone is almost 3 years old, really (I'm angry too, my phone is just 4 months old, but what can we do.. )

Eh it's still expensive like right now? If so then wow. In my country, you can buy Z1 as cheap as a low mid-range phone. (Sony pricing strategy really does suck)
Like others said Z1 is old and passed the 18 months promised support time from Sony. Yet we still receive bug fix and enhancement firmware like recent 236. I think we should be graceful for that since it's way better than other equivalent from other brands. Have you seen any Snapdragon 800 phone got M yet?
Also I don't know why many of you think not getting M is a stop support from Sony while we still indeed receive newer firmware build on 5.1.1. I think support means in the end you get the stable stuff not the newest one. Otherwise, after M people will demand N then O then P etc. for Z1 just for the sake that Z1 may have the spec to run it. And let's face it: even if Sony want to, they probably don't have enough resource to support Z1 (not with their current financial status). Supporting Z1 bring no benefit to Sony.
One more thing: if you look at the Z1 Update History on PTCRB, you'll see Sony did a fantastic job supporting this phone up until now. And even if we, by any chance, got the M, I'm sure it will feel like nothing because we won't get any new features (those are saved for latter Z series) - not to mention a new base firmware potentially bring lots of bugs.
==> I myself would be happy if they just provide me a super polished 5.1.1 firmware with no bugs at all.
How mutch cost z1 and z2 in your country?

The cheapest Z1 right now is around $175 and Z2 is about $250 I think. Xperia's pricing in my country is very unstable. It's usually start off really expensive then drop sharply just after a short time.
Oh here is the PTCRB link in case you're wondering.
https://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=24328
well.. even Hammerhead can have 6.0, so why Honami cant?
Its like that in most countries. Start of expensive and declines rapidly.
Here its also about the same price in USD. Since they produce every 6 months, a rather sharp price drop is expected.
I did see a list of supported updates and z1 wasn't one of them to get M
Z2 however, was

Unlikely that we will see marshmallow, the phone is really quite old now. I guess it's possible if a Dev can get it fully working, but I don't see it happening any time soon. Not such a big deal though, Lolipop is working pretty much perfectly on my z1
Hello, can anyone tell mi how strong is the torch in Sony Xperia xz1 compact? I have Sony xperia xa and torch is very strong, also have Sony xperia z3 where torch is very weak. Thanks in advance
I wouldn't call it impressive, but it can be made brighter. There's a topic on this very subject:
[FLASHLIGHT] Low flashlight brightness fix (torch light, not photo flash)
Hello. Stock libraries on XZ1 Compact are using 25mA current for the flashlight, which leads to very dim light. I fixed this to get 400mA current, and now flashlight is very bright, much better than on 25mA (stock) current. WARNING: You may...

Thank you for the topic, well to be honest i only understood every other word , i dont plan to root phone, even i wish, word root means magic for me, but dont know how to do it, dont even have a comp, all my matters on net doing on very reliable sony xperia xa, but its getting old ( the torch is really fantastic) and need something not very big in pocket as i work as gardener. Its shame i cannot find relevant answer for such a simple thing as torch, manufacturers should give as more detailed descriptions of products.
Anyway, thanks again for your time and effort
@wizy999 fair enough. As I said, it's by no means impressive but it does the job. If you're set on this model and got an IT-minded bud he could probably enhance it for you for a price of a pint or two.
XZ1c I'll say is one-of-a-kind model that really still has no match in terms of size-to-hardware ratio since it came out in 2017. You can get it on ebay for under £150, and even if it's a Japanese version with a locked bootloader (meaning it would cost £23 to unlock a bootloader to be able to flash custom OS), that's still money quite well spent in my view.
Then again if you're just after something unsophisticated and under 6" and you couldn't care less what hardware it packs so long as it can make calls and run the latest apps you could nab Redmi 6/6a or Galaxy J6/S8 for even less.

Yes, i was thinking of galaxy s8 and lg q6, but xz1 compact is my favourite, those big bezels suit me, even everybody criticize them. Its hopeless with compact phones nowadays, i search some long time, and best choise is 5years old phone, its ridiculous. I bought also iPhone se 2016, but not very happy so far. Google pixels seems great too but no microsd. Anyway, if you said the "torch is by no means impressive but it does the job", it means you have or had xz1 compact. Maybe you could roughly compare torch to some phone i have: Sony xperia xa, Sony xperia z3, sony ericsson xperia mini pro sk17i, Sony Ericsson xperia live walkman wt19i, Samsung galaxy a3 2014, Samsung galaxy a20e or iPhone SE 2016?... Just thinking... Thanks anyway

Sorry mate, never owned either.
I'll say this: it will do just fine for finding keys or as a night light in a dark room setting. But I would definitely bring additional light power scouring for same set of keys around the park.

Ha ha, nice comparison . So i just cross my fingers and buy one, hopefully Sony at the time didnt start to make dim torch as i read about 5 and 10 series. Maybe i will write directly to Sony...
