[Q] New Xperia Z: doesn't load correctly - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i bought a new Z with no warranty in cambodia a few days ago.
It runs with it's stock OS (no changes made). Everything works fine and I think it's a great phone.
HOWEVER it charges very slowly, sometimes only 3% in half an hour. After a night of charging its often at around 70%.
During charging the battery bar always shows the charging sign. Once i got the message "unplug the phone to save energy" (indicting that it's full) at a percentage of 52%.
My friend bought the same phone, it charges very fast.
Is this a known issue? Is there a problem with the hardware or the software? Could it be that the percentage shown is just wrong?
Should I try to get the phone changed/fixed? (i'll be in that city only tomorrow and i don't know if i can expect help there (no warranty))
I would really appreciate your advice!

hot while charghing

hello, is it a common problem? or is there a problem with mine? Not actually very hot, but hotter than the room temperature
I have the same thing, especially if the handset is charging through USB from my laptop.
I don't recharge from USB as I've read that it is bad for the battery. Again, not very hot. Also slightly hot when using UiFi for a very long time, or playing a lot. I guess it's normal. Being used a lot ... :-? I don't know, just asking
Hi georgeono,
I can't remember how to disable charging on connectivity to the PC. Can you please point that out to me?
Many thanks,
Ayman
Hey, I already found it. Don't bother yourself )
It's Settings -> All Settings -> System Tab -> Power -> Battery Tab
And why would charging through USB be bad??
well, to make a good charge, you should leave the phone 5-6 hours (even though the led is green, I let it even up to 10 hours (charging at night)). When at PC, I don't think you all the time keep the phone pluged. In order to make a good charge, the battery has to be nearly empty (new phones work well without this waiting, but still, in time ... you see the differences). And I don't think anyone waits for his phone to be empty to connect via USB. .
I previously had an SE 850i (4 years used). Always charged when battery was empty, charged about 6 hours, and now, in stand-by, the battery resists 10-11 days. That is something ... 4 years!!!
It's normal, the battery heats up when under heavy use/if charged. It's nothing to worry about
Thanks. Had the same opinion, but still asked. never know ...

This is a myth for lithium rechargeables
Lithium type batteries do not mind when they are charged, and topping them up is perfectly fine. Topping up little but often is probably going to extend the life of the battery if anything and not reduce it, why? The biggest killer of lithium type batteries is heat, and giving it a charge from nothing to the maximum means it gets opportunity to get very warm which ages it, whereas lots of little charges will not up the temperature nearly as much.
Also another myth, you can't damage lithium batteries by overcharging them, this is because the current is stopped when they are fully charged as if it wasn't they would explode!
Lithium batteries also have a use by date, and as soon as they are made they start to age and reduce in capacity, so you are better off using and abusing the battery to get as much from it as you can, as age and heat will probably kill it first.

Phil
My device is very hot when charging... Much hotter than my Touch Pro2 gets
i experienced a few times that my compact V (topaz model from T-mobile) freezes while using navigation software in the car, meanwhile charging... When i took my phone from the holder, it was extremely hot! After holding it in front of the airco for a while and restarting, everything worked fine again. Anyone else with the same problem?
I found out, that using GPS uses the battery extremely.
It drains with about 300 mA, while normal usage ist at <70-80 mA and standby even a lot less.
Additionally I found out, that the device becomes sluggish due to processor-Usage of nearly 100% (while using gps).
That might be what you are seeing.
Regards Thorsten
talking about GPS usage, when ever i'm on iGo when i minimize it to make a phone call, it doesnt connects. i had to exit iGO n wait a while before it is available to dail. or a quick soft resets solve it.
any of u have the same problem?

[Q] My hero got drunk, now the battery is confused

A few days ago I made the cardinal mistake of getting my phone wet. Even worse, it was wine. And no I wasn't drunk, but I was half awake. Anyway, I got my phone working fine again except for one thing. The battery functions normally, meaning it drains at a normal pace, but the percentage doesn't update unless I restart the phone.
But stranger than that is when I charge it the percentage quickly declines to 0% at which time it suddenly changes to 100% and is fully charged. And when I go into Spare Parts and look at the battery info it says it is at 100 and that it is in good condition and all of that.
So my question is, has anyone had a similar experience with their battery with or without getting their phone wet?
(I am on CM6 using the 9/16 release.)

[Q] Unreliable Battery!

Hi
I have noticed when I soft reset my phone the battery drops anywere from 5% up to about 70%! It varies from rom to rom. If i plug it in and softreset it a couple of times the battery goes up to around what it use to be. If it makes a difference I flash roms alot and don't usually install to many applications.
Is this normal at all or is my battery faulty? It's only about 8 months old.
Any ideas? Tips I could try?
Thanks
Imran
you know, i have the same problem when installing, touch x legendary rom, battery is about 96,96% but when i install that rom, battery drops down to 8,7%, i just plug in power for second, and battery jumps to 98%, and then all working fine...
The way phones and other devices display their state of charge (%) isn't always accurate, hence why it jumps back up 5% after plugging it in. I don't think your battery is unreliable, it's just reporting the wrong percent of charge...
I see. Mine is more like 50% so I guess mine is just really wrong! any ideas for fixing this?
Also i have the typical xperia x1 problem were it thinks the headphones are plugged in for the last 4 days. I have plugging and unplugging the headphones in heaps but it doesn't seem to work
Thanks
I have the same problem.
Phone has one year and 8 months.
Wine phone or battery?
I just got exact problem this morning
I agree with comment above, I think it just battery indicator not accurately represented battery state.
I also noticed the problem happened when I get my phone idle for a while
I was just going to start a new thread about this kind of thing. My phone's original battery has run out at anywhere between 0 and 30%... it tends to go for a couple of days if I don't use the phone much. I've tried recalibration and it doesn't really help. I thought that was bad, but I just bought a backup battery and it's even worse... yesterday it went from 100 to 50% over half a day on standby, then I used it for about ten minutes and it just went off! At 50%!
I was only expecting rubbish life from the cheap battery but at least report the charge properly so I have a chance! Old phones could always do it... why can't one that cost hundreds of pounds when it was new?
I take it there's nothing you can really do?

[Q] Brand New X...Battery Memory to Start?

Hello. 1st post & glad to be here. Just picked up a new Motorola X for Sprint & want to ask a question or 2 & share my experience.
I purchased the phone yesterday morning & got it all set up & then started to use it. Without charging it & using the phone I went from about 50% to 20% for the day. Not bad but when I was on the phone I got an alert that my battery was low. It went from 20% to 3%. Later ticked down to 0%. I chalked this up to being a new battery with not a full charge on it yet. So I charged it up & revisited the phone this morning. While still on the charger I notice the battery indicator in the top right still showed a "lightning bolt" but the lock screen advised "charged." - So I took it off and My battery would go down from normal usage but after not using it for maybe half an hour it would go back up 3%. (I.E. - 88%, not use the phone for 30 mins. Recheck & its at 92%) Went into Sprint & they advised probably a battery issue and offered another device. Sure sounds good to me...whatever you think will help.
Fast forward to this morning to when I got the new device. He went to start the phone to activate it & it said it was dead. 0%. Plugged it in and after a few mins the phone booted up and showed around 50%. He advised if its been sitting a while it just needs a charge to get it going. So I get home, and start setting it up and about 45% the phone says low battery and shuts down. I'm thinking this is just the way this battery starts off I guess? So I charge it up and it starts charging at 50%. Leave it on the charger for a good 2+ hours. Same battery indicator as phone #1. "lightning bolt" but lock screen saying charged. -- Any insight on to why this is. I have searched around & have not gotten anything close to this sort of issue?
Note: My battery does do fine when actually using the phone like normal after its charged up. All the battery stats are acceptable & well within normality. This 2nd phone shows to be fine so far with the battery % not fluctuation. :Crosses fingers: Is this "normal" for the Moto X to start? What are the odds that 2 different Moto X's have the same issue?
Thanks for your help.

Hmm... not sure. Typically they advise you to fully charge before activating, which may have to do with the software reading the battery correctly. But I didn't have this issue at all with mine. Perfection from the very start. Actually the best and most perfect phone I've owned in the 17 years I've been with Sprint.
There is no such thing as "battery memory" with Li-ion or polymer batteries. I'm going to say that however rare it may be, both devices suffered from the same bug or hardware issue.

Help Needed with battery life!

I need help, Since the last month, my Xperia z1 keeps turning off at 60-50 % battery. When i turn it back on without a charger plugged in it's at 1%, but when i et it charge for 2 minutes, its back at around 60 percent. Sometimes it won't charge, charge very slowly or even drop 20%.
see image for an example.

Thanks alot in advance!
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my primairy language.
can't post any links yet, made an account just for this problem.
Your battery is dying... You need to go to a service for a battery change because this one is at the end of its life [emoji52]
I had the same problem. I changed my battery and the problem is GONE.
Since Z1 has a non-removable battery, how much do you guys pay for the battery repair ? does it co$t a lot?
Hello
I had the same problem I have to try everything. Finally I have to change battery and everything works again as before. I have had this problem since the transition. kitkat of a lollipop
what the heck do you mean by you charge the battery and the problem is gone? The problem is the phone can't survive long without charging - you can't just charge it all day long. I know because my battery has become so bad that my phone can die at 95% (and same as op, become 1% and then jump up to 100% quickly). It used to do that only when I do intensive tasks like Chrome and camera, but now it just do that for no reason. Thought it was a software thing so I was excited to get back onto XDA after several years - but got very disappointed afterwards. Here in Sweden swapping a battery costs something like $88, which isn't quite worth it considering I'm prolonging a two-year-old phone's lifespan, so I'm giving up and probably heading for the Oneplus 2 instead. So long Sony...
